Root before or after update? - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

hey guys, I got my htc 10 today and i want to root it, so that i can use the stock rom with adblock and xposed.
should i root and stay on the current version or upgrade to nougat and root then?
thanks on advance

You can't use xposed on nougat yet.No TWRP at the moment. If you are planning to root, after update. But first I recommend s-off and unlock before nougat.

Stock Lollipop-->4.4.4 based ROM [possible?]

Hello guys!
I own an HTC ONE M8 [non rooted- just stock] and I have updated my device to Lollipop 5.0.1 via OTA. Unfortunately, since Xposed is currently working under beta conditions, I want to downgrade to 4.4.4 to use the "full power" of my device So my plan is to:
1. root and unlock the bootloader of my HTC [currently on stock Lollipop 5.0.1]
2. Download and flash a ROM based on KitKat 4.4.4
3. Install Xposed and all the goodies it supports [Amplify, Greenify etc]
Is my plan possible?
Thanks in advance!!
Yes ...
That's not really downgrade, it just install 4.4.4 custom ROM, so your plan should work

So, a downgrade would be returning to stock Sense 4.4.4, right? I am not interested in that.
I just want to flash a custom rom, based on 4.4.4. If that is possible with the steps I plan to follow, then OK
Yes
If I want to return to stock 4.4.4 from Lollipop, do I still need to root the phone? The phone worked perfectly well before the Lollipop update, I really regret updating, I see no benefits whatsoever and lots of problems.

Yes. You either have to root, or gain S-Off and run a 4.4.4 RUU.

[Q] Please confirm my thought process Root/Upgrade

Hi,
I want to root and install CM13 on my H815 10c International G4.
For rooting i`ll use this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/orig-development/root-tmo-vzw-intl-variants-soon-root-lg-t3164765
After root, CM sites states: For CyanogenMod 13.0 it's required that your device is running stock Android 6.0 (H815_V20A or higher).
So i need to first flash a 6.0 ROM, but which? I found this: H81520B_00 zip 1.4GB.. but i`m not sure that this will install cleanly once rooted.
Basically how to i get to 6.0 so i can install CM13?
Thanks

You can upgrade to 6.0 but if you want to flash CM after that, you have to unlock your bootloader first, then root, then flash Twrp...
The only G4 variant that can be bootloader unlocked is H815 Eu version.

Hello,
As i understood you don't have Root access, let me tell you some things.
First,If you proceed rooting your mobile, you may be unable to boot your phone.
Second, you should be really careful with what you do.
If you want to proceed,Go to Settings→About Phone and tell me Device Model and what V(Version)of Marshmallow you are.
Greetings.

If you reinstall V30n you aren't going to have root access.
Why not going to a custom ROM?
There is a big variety.
Fulmics it use's LG UX5 (LG G5 software) and with Xceed kernel or Gabriel the phone will have a great performance.
Cyanogenmod aka Lineage OS(The one that I'm using right now)
Great performance, stock android experience and with Gamma kernel you are going to have +more performance and battery life.
But if you don't want to install any ROM then you can flash the pre-rooted V30N and flash Xceed or Gabriel kernel.
P.S:Would you like me to provide you a guide on how to Downgrade your device?
Greetings.

Officialy you can't Dear (odin method)
If your phone is (rooted) or any custom recovery installed like (TWRP)
then you can install any custom rom (stable) available for your phone

Odin is official Samsung software for flashing official Samsung firmware.
But, once you are on the latest Pie bootloader you can't downgrade to latest Oreo, so it will be impossible.
Dude... there are a bunch of J600F Oreo ROMs hellooooo
