Okay, I realize this is quite a common problem for Xperia S (the SonyMobile help forums are full of various Xperia S connectivity issue topics) but after spending hours and hours googling this problem I still haven't found a cure for it. So I'm hoping the supersmarts of the XDA community will help me find a solution.
Background:
* It's a normal Xperia S, updated to 4.0.4 officially (6.1.A.2.45).
* I did root it a few months ago to be able to get rid of some system apps (I made sure all the removed sysapps were non-critical) and to get more functionality out of it, but the problem didn't start after rooting. I used SystemApp Remover to backup all system apps (see attachment for applist).
* All essential root apps were installed, like LuckyPatcher, SuperSU etc.
Problem:
* One fine day (I can't pinpoint when but I noticed it last week) the phone wouldn't recognize PC anymore and neither did the PC recognize the phone.
* This is not correlated with rooting as I mentioned earlier - after initial rooting, this problem did not occur.
* When connecting to PC via USB, the phone treats the connection as a charger and just starts charging, the PC doesn't recognize anything at all, as if nothing had been connected via USB.
Tried so far:
* Tried different USB cables, 2 different PC's, different USB slots, tried disabling and re-enabling USB devices on PC.
* Tried re-installing PC Companion.
* Tried booting the phone in Safe Mode (volume down method).
* Tried Settings reset and Factory data reset (the phone is currently vanilla, just rooted).
* Rolled back all changes to system apps and reinstalled them with no issues.
Misc Info:
* I read about the MTPapp having a bug in Xperia S, something like a memory leak where it gets too big if Internal Storage is very full (which isn't the case, maintained 10GB of free space at all times + currently it's all wiped) but the funny thing is, I couldn't find an MTPapp in processes/all apps.
* One of the suggested fixes was navigating to All apps -> MTPapp, and clearing data, but there is no such app in the phone, just a "MTP extension service" which is idling at 0.00b.
* I'm not sure whether Xperia S should have a USB connection type setting in Settings -> Xperia -> Connectivity, but for me there is no option there to choose between USB connection. There's only a "Install PC Companion" setting, which I have set to "on" and a "No trusted hosts" setting which is grayed out so I can't access it.

Getting quite desperate and hoping you guys have some clever knowledge on what I should try to do. I am a little bit scared to take it back to the store due to root although I could try to unroot it and then go. So here's hoping
Check THIS app. It work for me.

Installed the app, granted SU, connected phone to PC, still acts as charger is connected, PC doesn't recognize phone whatsoever, tried it with both Media Transfer and Mass Storage modes..
Thanks for the suggestion though..
Edit: Maybe I should download a standalone MTPapp from another Xperia S and install it? Any suggestions?

Have you tried usb debugging on?

Check the phones USB port for debris. Possible some lint/paper blocking contacts. I know its the obvious but sometimes it's the small things giving trouble. Maybe even a 3rd USB cord

If u have cw recovery
Go to it and mount the USB

not one but five ;
usb-mpt backup transport.apk;
usb-mpt-marlin-wrapper.apk;
usb-mpt-update.apk
usb-mpt-vendor-extension -service.apk
usbtransport service.apk
thats the apps reponsible for usb respository
make sure you fix permission after wards
# check device manager as well in the windows !!! that might be a problem,
# reinstall drivers related to xperia LT26 driver corrupted
hope thats helps
Ps unless you use the sd-mounter.apk from xda- should make a trick either way
@ ToledoJab.. tried the debris approach and a 3rd USB cable (and 3rd PC)to no avail.
@ abd_alazeez2002.. I am not sure what the cw recovery is so it's probably safe to assume I don't have it.
@ marcoplo.. Should I just get these apps in the phone and install them? Device manager shows no trace of the device.. it could very well be that the drivers are corrupted but I haven't found a way of reinstalling them as the computer doesn't recognize anything when I connect the PC.. Any place to find an installer package for the drivers or the drivers themselves?
Edit: @ marcpolo - I managed to install only the UsbTransportService.apk, while the others gave an error of "Application not installed".. Should I just move this to a system folder, and if so, which one (I have root explorer so can access everything).

Copy and past to the $\system\app use the root explorer to do that, then the sub menu fix permission and restart try it if it work
if won't work run fix permission in CMW see if it work !!
did you try on other computers to see if it work
if not work my suggestion will be to re flash system !
what worries me is that device manger does not see it

I put the 4 mptxxx apps to the system/app folder, changed their permissions to owner/everything and restarted - still no changes.
what is "run fix permission in CMW" ?
How do I flash the system? =/
Thanks!
flashtool, the firmware you wanted or preferable ->zip in cmw easier !
wait what about sd-mount ???

Could you maybe direct me towards some links as to the flashing and a stock rom..
I tried the sd-mounter software posted above in this topic and had no luck..
Downloaded RecoverX from here.. didn't get to install it as the PC doesn't recognize that my device is connected.. =/
You may want to try using linux. You can boot a usb drive and try flashtool then. I can give more info if you want

I know next to nothing about Linux and I don't have any friends who have it so that's not an option at this point..
So should I try to unroot the phone with OTA Rootkeeper (if so, should I uninstall all root-needing apps before or after unrooting, and what about SU) and take it to the warranty service with my fingers crossed or should I try to flash the phone (any methods of doing this without having to directly connect to PC)?
I read somewhere on Xperia forums that someone with the same problem had taken the device to the warranty service only to get a reply about static electricity having fried something on the mainboard, thus rendering the device unable to connect to PC.. Sounds sketchy, but it's a possibility, as nothing seems to be helping and due to the fact that this problem occurred on it's own so to speak.. =/
I had exactly the same problem. I solved this very easy... Connection cable was just charging cable and you need usb data cable
fix permissions in recovery..
i also got that problem, but the problem was the usb 3.0 port
Moskwiz, if you still alive - what was the end of the story?
Did you try the hardware repair
I have the same problem in a diferent way. HELP
Hi,
My xperia s is not opening just keep restarting him self and the pc don't recognize it, so I can't boot into fastboot and flash a clean firmware...
My old Xperia x10 had the same problem. turned out it was a hardware problem which i got fixed from Sony.maybe you might want to look into that

i do have the same problem with my xperia p. i dont think its a problem with hardwared because when i connect my phone to another pc it works fine. When i formated my pc and installed windows once again it worked and after some days again the problem started i think its a problem with windows updated because after i installed all the updates it started to show the problem.
In order to fix my issue connecting to WiFi access points, I decided to delete the files within the /etc/wifi folder (was supposed to delete /data/etc/wifi?)
Since doing so, my phone has been stuck in a boot loop, not allowing me to change much on the phone in that time (maybe 5 secs).
I don't have a recovery installed (just the root with towelroot), so don't have a nandroid backup, and stupidly didn't take a titanium backup.
I do have a backup of the deleted files on my External SD, so could put them back in place, if possible.
Does anyone know of a solution to fix the boot loop, without wiping my data?
Or an option to backup at least my SD Card (ideally data as well) before I factory reset?
Thanks
Idk if it can help, but I did recovery from PC Suite just to get the KDZ of my phone.... It took his time so I went to dinner but when I came back my phone was already flashed. I didn't lose my data or apps it just flashed over it and unrooted (but you can root again).
Here are the answers:
Next time before mase with the root files backup all to SD or PC.

The problem I have is that I cannot get PC Suite to see my phone or connect to it - Probably because I can't get the MTP driver to install.
I've been looking for the KDZ file for the 32GB Eurpean D855, but I have not found it as yet. Also not sure which DLL file I am supposed to be using for Flash Tool!
I did get so close to moving the files back to their correct location, but need like 1 second extra before the reboot!

Have you tried to boot in secure mode? Maybe it can give you more seconds.
Just hit power button and when menu comes keep pressing shutdown until appears the message to boot into secure mode.
Also you can try the twrp method and use adb on it to restore files.
Managed to get it recognised on a Windows 8 machine, rather than a Windows 7 machine (yep, strange huh)... managed to restore using PC Suite - no data loss, so i'm very happy!

I told him on first reply. If you flash to recover through pc suite, it just flash over it without deleting anything.. It just unroot but you can root again.

As above. Even if it seems phone is not recognised in Pc Suite (but seems to be in Windows) connect phone and in LG PC Suite select Mobile Device > Restore Upgrade Errors

Bootloop began after I though I did a mod and saved the 644 permissions.
PC Suite does not find the phone, even in with above method.
Other ideas?
Hello i'm new here and i have huge problems on my LG k10, i rooted it with king root and then i deleted some system app i thought there were useless for some of them and i deleted lg bridge and lg keyboard but after doing it i had some crashs from settings etc so i did a hard reset but after it the phone rebooted and since this reboot i can't do anything on setup wizard (for wifi settings for example i can't write anything because i deleted the default keyboard and the google voice doesn't work offline), my sim card is not recognized even if i putted off and putted in .
So i plugged the usb for installing lg drivers from the official site and then i installed flashtool last version from lg and i downloaded the kdz stock rom for lg k10 k420n but when i go into download mode and start flashtool it doesn't flash it with error like server failed etc, even if i don't click on ok or if i click on it, it does not do anything.
I tried to download the LG UP software but when i open it under "new model" it say unknown but in the com ports it say COM6,K42010b ... if i click on select it say me "you have to select a known model, please."
And for the end my computer even with lg drivers installed don't recognize my phone on usb mass storage so i can't put an apk keyboard on it ..
I really need help even if i think my phone is dead..
Hi,
I felt sad for your side.
I'll create a guide to save bricked (or which has issues like yours) devices. It'll be right there in few hours.
EDIT: I did it. Check out there. http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-...rmware-due-t3380529/post66883876#post66883876

Change the option to File Transfer from the popup/notification on your phone when you connect it to the PC. It works for me.
EDIT: If it still doesn't change, check the adb drivers.

i am not getting any popup.
Check the sliding switch on the right hand edge of the op3 is "down" to allow ALL notifications. There are plenty of "install OP3 drivers" videos on Youtube. Windows drivers are also on the phone.
This should still work - the drivers are also supplied on the phone. Doing nothing other than connecting a op3 to a windows pc should cause a cd drive to appear in Windows Device Manager and in File Explorer (look under "This PC") for "CD Drive (drive letter: OnePlus Drivers" . Double Click the icon and run "OnePlus_USB_Drivers_Setup.exe". If you are running a recent version (and clean installed in the last few months) of W10 Pro then you may hit driver signing issues
Hello,
I just got myself a brand new LG G4 H815 and it is running Marshmallow. I want to upgrade to Nougat so I installed LG Bridge on my windows 10 PC, connected my phone with original USB cable but I get message "no mobile device connected". PC recognizes my phone and I can transfer files from and to the PC. I have LG universal mobile drivers installed and the phone is in MTP mode. Weirdly, once I switch it into charging mode, LG Bridge recognizes it but won't allow me to upgrade it since it must be in MTP mode. Can someone tell me a solution to this problem or tell me if I can update my phone in some other way? LG PC suite tells me that there's some sort of Verizon app built into my phone which will do it, but I cant find it anywhere.
This is a common problem. It is some sort if glitch with windows 10
In hardware devices window are u sure the driver doesn't appear as question mark after u connect?
Remove to device driver and let windows reinstall it automaticly when you restart windows
Try again

Yes, I've done it, since I had some issues with other device's drivers on win 10. It didn't help. I'll try on Win 7.
