Edit: Problem has been solved based on instructions provided here.
Long story short I had problems with the newest Cyanogenmod 14 nightly today and had to Factory Reset my phone. Since then I have spent hours installing different ROM's and have been unable to get any to work. They all install just fine, no errors. However I cannot boot into the OS at all. Every time I try to I am automatically booted into TWRP. I don't understand why this is happening after I have repeatedly wiped my entire phone. There is literally nothing on it, I install from scratch, restart... and am booted right back into recovery mode :crying:
Any help is greatly appreciated. I have a reddit thread going on right now as well regarding my problems earlier today but haven't gotten any help.
TWRP Version 3.0.2
Various ROM's I have tried:
cm-13.0-20160820-SNAPSHOT-ZNH5YAO0J9-Z00T.zip
cm-14.1-20161202-NIGHTLY-Z00T.zip
cm-14.1-20161201-NIGHTLY-Z00T.zip
hmm.. try to reboot into bootloader either from recovery or with help of volume plus power button. then flash ifwi, boot, droidboot, recovery and dnx, then install firmware again. if no luck with that. then you have to flash raw firmware using commands

Thank you for the reply!
Rebooting into either bootloader or with the button commands always brings me into TWRP. Nothing else appears to be possible.
Is there another way I can flash what I need? I am not familiar with flashing firmware and am not sure what ifwi droidboot etc. mean, is there a guide you could point me to for this?
Thanks!

Holy **** it worked!!! Thanks so much man!!!
If you were on cm14 then you are on an mm based bootloader. You can only install roms based on that. All of the lp bootloader based roms will do exactly what you described. The other alternative is to downgrade the bootloader to lp.

There is or at least was a bug in CM 14.1 within settings , if did a factory reset within settings ...whether it still there today with latest build ? I've not tested
What it does or did, is render your twrp ineffective , you cannot flash or restore.
Above solution fixed or fixes it fast and you can then restore or install cm14.1

It looks like you flashed a ROM for the t805 not the t705.
First let's get you back to stock.
Download the firmware for your device from the link below.
Follow the instructions to install it. This will get you up and running again.

Tbh I think you have a hardware issue.
Now new problem when I try to install twrp it will not do it, If I go into the system recovery and try to do factory reset an error shows as follows
E: unknown volume for path {/sbfs}
E: unknown volume "/sbfs"[/U][/U]
Data wipe complete.
I thought it may be battery related but I have changed to a genuine new battery. still same issue

I tried upgrading to 7.1, and have tried 3 different ROM's. I even tried going back to 6. Every single ROM told me error code 7 when I tried to flash it. I went about fixing that. So then I was able to flash the ROM and GApps. But then when it goes to boot into the OS all it does is hang on the white Asus screen, reboot, and go back to the white Asus screen. It does that 3 times then goes into recovery. I even tried fixing it with ZE551ML_Modder V3.3. I am running TWRP-3.0.2-0-Z00A.img. This is a Z00A as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The bootloader is the recovery right? (At least thats what I always thought). If so then I am running the newest TWRP for it.
http://theflamingskull.com/zenfone2.html
Upgrade your bootloader following the instructions on the .zip package.
This will upgrade your bootloader and flash a compatible TWRP recovery.

I did all that. Now I am stuck with CM Recovery. I tried using the tool to get TWRP back but its not working. I have to figure out how to push TWRP using ADB.
In modder, return to stock option , flash stock recovery and boot img.
Unlock bootloader in modder, just incase.
Flash twrp, root in modder ..reboot to twrp...install 7.1 and pico gapps
I finally had to go to Ubuntu, run ADB as SU and ADB Sideload an older version of Cyanogenmod. Not a single factory image would work. And not a single one of those Android 7 ROM's would work. They are all broken. I would like to see real proof of one working. That little escapade cost me a lot of time. So until someone comes out with a real CM14 version for the Z00A do not attempt to boot one.

You may have really misunderstood the processes and yes they are allover the place.
i am running CM14.1 lots of people are !
What you probobaly have is LP based CM 13 on WW-4.20 blah blah.165
Then there was a CM13 with MM blobs based on WW-4.21 blah blah .135 MM
I think where you have gone wrong is not unlocking bootloader in 5 LP and upgrading bootloader and unlocking.
if you are on .165 - you could flash stock recovery for .165 -- upgrade to .184 -- unlock bootloader and upgrade to MM then unlock bootloader in MM with modder
Then use the modder to install 7.1 14.1 CM
But judging by the probs you have haD already - just leave it alone :good:

Had a bit of a roller coaster ride over the past 12 hours trying to flash lineageos onto my phone. Let me try to give an idea of what has happened so you guys know what's up:
To start off:
I downloaded the unlock apk from the asus website and ran it last night
Afterwards, I loaded into fastboot and installed twrp
I made a backup using twrp and then I wiped the internal storage
Tried to flash the lineageos rom and got error 7
I thought I would restart the phone and try again. Not being able to get back into bootloader I thought I bricked my phone. It was late night so I decided to sleep and come back to it.
Woke up this morning and got into bootloader (I assume I was just pressing the buttons incorrectly)
Restored my backup and used my phone for a bit
After googling, found that I needed to modify some files in the lineageos zip to fix the errror 7. Proceeded to do so by wiping again and flashing the modified rom along with gapps.
Got into bootloop. So I turned the phone off and booted into boot loader hoping to get into twrp again, and try once more. Now, when I select recovery mode, it doesnt work and puts me back to bootloader.
So this is where I am now. And I've tried a couple of things, that may or may not have messed this phone up.
First off I've tried to, reinstall twrp.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vM0ODzSb1y4 ( wrong link )
https://youtu.be/BJPEc1NG_k8
Using this link I ran the file that he has given while in bootloader. Nothing changed. So I also tried to just download the latest twrp and flash that. Resulting with the same situation as before.
With a little more google I figured I would flash some stock images.
http://www.android.gs/how-to-unbrick-asus-zenfone-2-and-go-back-to-stock-android-os/
With this website. I went and downloaded firmware from asus website. Extracted it and went about flashing each item. That is when I realized that the file doesnt contain a system.img. ****.
At this point I also had a system.img from:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/help/enter-recovery-551ml-z00a-t3345633/page2
And I just proceeded to try and flash that in replacement for what I did not have. But I got an error:
http://imgur.com/a/TldyG
Now from what I see here. It wiped it without adding anything. So now I'm a little scared.
I found this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5BNfaU_O9o
With links to various files. Now I'm not sure if I can just download one and flash each file like before.
TL;DR: I've tried to flash lineageos. It put me into bootloop. I can't get back into recovery. I tried to flash some img files I found and I messed up (check imgur link above). Not sure where to go from here.
Thanks for any help guys.

What were you on before you started? Usually the error 7 is because you weren't on the right bootloader. In this case you need the MM bootloader. If you were coming from Lollipop that would explain it.

My bad I should have also included the model number in the post, I'm using the ZE551ML. Yeah, I believe I was on 5.0 when I started. If I hadn't all of this would have been solved? I'm so sad.

Thank you. Thank you. I am downloading the raw right now. Will update when I use the flash tool and try the modder.
For the modder it looks like I will:
-unlock bootloader
-install twrp
-root
and there is an option of installing xposed. Seems like it gives you more versatility when flashing roms. Do you think it is stable and has enough support to be used with the zenfone? Are updates done automatically and does the framework stay when updating/flashing roms?

Also, is it safe to turn the device off? After flashing the imgs I'm scared to turn it off. If I accidentally boot into os will the phone break?
If you plan on installing LinOS. You don't need to root first. (you can if you want, but it would be a waste of time). Xposed is great but I don't think it works with LinOS yet. (at least that was the case when I was on that rom) LinOS does have weekly Ota updates. Just need to have twrp 3.0.3 or higher for the update process to work

Well there's no MM based SPFT file, so all you have to do is either flash stock kk/LP using SPFT or if you've twrp installed, boot into TWRP again and wipe everything except SD, flash the MOB31E full stock Rom zip. Link : MOB31E OTA's and flashable zips thread

Hello, please help
The device is canvas a1 and it is fully updated till the last update via OTAs only. I performed factory reset on it. It is now stuck on setup wizard. Not able to skip from there.
I wanted to flash it again.
So, can you please tell if it is OK to flash KK or LP flash files?
(I am asking this because, its BL might have got upgraded in OTA updates and it could be dangerous to downgrade to lower versions by flashing.)

Nothing to worry. Once you get twrp, just clean flash stock lollipop Rom. Don't use SPFT, you gonna brick your phone if something goes wrong wrong. I'll link you LP (flashable via twrp) Rom, tell me when you done.

Hi there
I have the same problem and my phone is stuck at the boot screen.
My phone does not allow me to enable USB debugging and I am really stuck with being able to install TWRP and flash the stock ROM.
I'm incredibly confused and am unsure what I am doing. Attached is a screenshot of the CMD box.
Help and simple instructions would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Finally Oreo was approved for installation. I used Firmware Finder to download and install it, it didn't show up yet when checking with system update. It's a large download, so it takes quite a while. The installation itself is just a few minutes. All settings are maintained and all seems to run well at the moment.
Oops, title is wrong. I hate automatic spelling checks sometimes.
Most things are the same. The camera can now take 3D images. A few extra settings in portrait mode. More options for preventing apps to auto-start or running in the background. I like the touch-and-hold on the app icons. So far no problems detected.
GPS now uses several Gallileo satelites.
See attached image
Thanks for the heads up.......Oreo running smoothly on my PD

Hi Guys,
from which country?
What new ROM reference?
thanks,
Use firmware finder, instructions inside app. Watch the video on utube. It will take you through the steps
Two things, don't choose top update this is the full system, you want the second which is the update, secondly disconect the vpn when the download starts.
Only go down the this update route if you are clear on what you are doing. If things go wrong you could end up with a bricked phone.
What we are doing is cheating the system, now the update is on the server it will be available to all in a couple of weeks via the normal upadate process.

Dear Sho-Bund,
Finally, I controlled yesterday and the new ROM 8.0.0.360 accepted firmware access.
After downloading during reset, TWRP 3.0.2.2 prevents the procedure and after reboot system through TWRP.
Before updating, I relocked phone (fastboot mode; FRP is unlocked)
I have never rooted my phone. Very difficult on Android 7 plus I think after rooting, you cannot update a normal firmware only customs roms.
Harghhh !
before, I read we cannot uninstall twrp. A solution?
Rebranding procedure? the Funky Huawei is yhe alons solution for rebranding.
Or another solution?
Anyway, many thanks for your first reply and thanks if you can help.

I'm sorry to hear of your problems. Personally I don't have any experience with TWRP. Everything is stock.

If i want to upgrade u need to be on Stock Recovery.
U can download your Firmware and use HuaweiUpdateExtractor and extract stock recovery from update.app then flash stock recovery by ADB.

Dont have a guide, but download Multi-Tool and there is a guide on how to do it. I think your bootloader must be unlocked.

Thanks for your link.
Basically, I know this tool but never worked with it.
So, today official OREO LON-L29 8.0.0.360 is setup on official update procedure.
I will see if phone will be reversed on stock ROM withouth blocked with TRWP.
Otherwise, I will proceed with multi tool 7.1.
hey all
i'm a new owner of a mate 9 porsche design, the design is awsome and the price too
i'm on oreo official now
but i did a benchlerk between it and my old normal mate 9 the potos i took with the mate 9 were better then thoese taken by the PD
is that normal?
I don't have a normal Mate 9 so I can't compare personally, but I've read a test in the past and it showed that the graphic benchmark was a bit lower, caused by the higher resolution of the PD. The benchmark of the Porsche Design is higher after I updated to Oreo.
