[Q] How to install OOS Beta 8 OP3 - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Me, and other people have this (noob) question about beta 8.
How do I install it? (I'm stock and want to stay that way)
In the forums many people post many different ways.
Thanks!

Would this work?
Place zip in root -> settings -> update -> local upgrade
Will my data/apps be deleted?

No, if you're stock as you say, you are not granted local upgrade, afaik. This feature is available for CB users.

Rooted phones have their status set to "Custom" so you cannot update OTA.
What you can do is to download the stock rom from Sammobile and flash it using odin, then root it again.
P.s. Rooting triggers knox so warranty will be voided.

thanks, but flashing it will delete all of the files installed?
if it does, do you have any recommendations for a backup software?

[ROOT][HOW-TO] Fix Themes app on EMUI 5 / Nougat

Hello!
The problem is that themes are not applying when you install a EMUI 5 firmware from e.g. Firmware Finder.
Yesterday I've installed B340 firmware from a website and then I've updated to B350 through Settings > System Update.
Themes still wasn't working. I could open the app though, but themes weren't applying. Then I've searched for a solution and it turned out that other people had same/similar problem with other huawei phones.
REQUIREMENTS:
- EMUI 5
- Unlocked bootloader
- Rooted phone
- a file manager with root support ( im using the good old version of ES File Explorer; I suggest you Amaze too)
Click to collapse
HOW TO FIX:
1) Clear cache for Themes app from Settings > Apps > Themes > Storage.
2) Install Huawei Mobile Services from Play Store.
3) Open Themes app and login with your Huawei ID.
4) Now close Themes.
5) Download those huawei themes and extract the zip somewhere(they're taken from B340 update_data_full_CAN-L11_hw_eu.zip, but the model or firmware version doesn't / shouldn't matter).
6) Open a file explorer with root support.
7) Create this folder: /data/hw_init/system/themes.
8) Put all huawei themes (.hwt format) which you've downloaded and extracted at step 5) to /data/hw_init/system/themes.
9) Set permission 0755 for folders and 0644 for files. Check the screenshots attached to the end of this post. You apply the permissions for system and themes folder as in first screenshot and for .hwt files as in second screenshot.
10) Reboot.
11) Open Themes app and apply a stock theme. Then you should be able to apply any downloaded theme.

Oh, well... i guess there isnt any solution for non rooted phones.
Regarding warranty, as far as ive read, the phone still has warranty even after unlocking the bootloader, assuming you relock it. Ive relocked my bnootloader two times already, but i didnt have time at all to make the guide.
The moral is.... wait for official ota when the device says theres an update..... dont use oter software to try to upgrade your phone...
youll end up with something not working at the end
Ive installed the Huawei internet service app...cant even launch it:silly:
i see it in the settings/applications and thats about it.... no app icon in drawer....

You mean Huawei Mobile Services? If yes, then I see that I can't find it neither in Settings.
However, if I search in Settings's search bar for "Huawei", then it show up.
It isn't an app for app drawer.

Well, it shows my Huawei acc when I touch it. I haven't opened it right after I've installed it though. It opened automatically when I've opened Themes app and I had to login.
Also, I don't have the gapps installed.

You need to unlock bootloader, flash TWRP and then flash phh SuperUser's zip in TWRP and then install it's app from play store.
Hi #Henkate,
in first place, thank you for your hard work to bring us custom recovery, root and roms for Nova. :good:
Please, I need advice, after I unlocked the bootloader on can-l11c432b382.
Which version of TWRP are you suggesting for flashing, right now? I'm little bit confused, because there is lots of versions.
Also, what root method is best for rooting can-l11c432b382 (phh or with Magisk)?
I'm currently interested in fixing Themes app on EMUI 5, and enjoying using root.
Thank you very much. With your guide I solved the issue with Themes with P10 and EMUI 5.1 (Kangvip ROM, Nougat, B217. Same files in the same indicated folder (I had to create all the subfolders under /system)..

I'm sorry for the late reply... I don't know how I've missed your post, but there's a chance that I've seen it and forgot to reply lol. Either way, if you mention my name or quote me, I'll get a notification so that assures that I'll see your post.
TWRP - I'd suggest Grarak's one or the one I've built and shared some time ago (it's newer). There's also one posted by @Temanyan in the first TWRP thread (if I'm not mistaken) and that one doesn't have the same problem with mounting /data (which can be solved by formatting /data on the other TWRPs).
ROOT - I'd suggest phh superuser because when I've tried Magisk I've lost root couple of times and I needed to reboot or reflash magisk zip... You know, that's annoying af. I'm never going back to Magisk unless the issue gets fixed.

Look for Downloaded_rom folder in your internal storage, there you'll find your downloaded update package.
Delete that zip file and clear data of Updater app.
Done.
Is there a way to stop ota updates in a rooted miui?
I always get notifications for a n ew update, but i don´t know if this would work - because i have unlocked bootloader and magisk root. I want to stay on my 9.5.13 and no new updates - and no new notifications.
I have titanium backup installed, maybe i can freeze/block a service with this?

You can disable checking for updates and installing them automatically in Settings → About phone → System update (click on the three-dot menu in the top right corner).
However, if you already have a notification, it will stay there. What seems to clear it is if you install any update - you can flash the version you already have again from a ZIP file.
Afterwards, what should work best is to go to Settings → Additional settings → Authorization & Revocation and revoke authorization from Updater.

OnePlus 8 Pro version 10.5.6 updates

OnePlus 8 Pro IN11AA OxygenOS v10.5.6 just dropped.
Im updating now. Thanks
Just updated. Two updates in one day. Unfortunately didnt fixed the problem with video recording lag.
If you're rooted, did you retained root without issues with Magisk?
The phone is not rooted (if you asked me )
If you do a local upgrade, i guess the phone automatically restarts at the end of the process. So... How to flash magisk to the inactive slot before restart the phone?

The phone will not reboot if you do local in place upgrade from the setting menu. After the upgrade goto Magisk and flash to the inactive slot then reboot.
Is the downloadable update available somewhere to do a local upgrade?

Shoot, that was easy. As I've said, this is my first OnePlus device, and updating and keeping root with this was even easier than my Pixel.

You can either download it from system update or use the Oxygen Updater app from the Play store. once you have the file, it will be located on your phone root user storage. You can now do an upgrade. If you were already rooted with Magisk, it will download the full update image and you can retain root by flashing Magisk to the unused slot.

Did it all on my phone. Went to settings>system>system updates and selected download & install. After it downloaded, I rebooted my phone to stop the install. Then I used Root Explorer to move the OTA to the root file and installed it with local update option. Then installed Magisk to the opposite slot as previously posted by Poloasis.

We don't have twrp yet on 8 Pro, so no you can't. You can update using local update from settings, just move it to root folder of internal memory, go to update app, local update, select downloaded file and let it do its job. If you want to retain root, after update don't reboot your phone, go to magisk manager and install it to unused partition, then reboot.

Question Wtf os12

My op9 pro is running android 12, and is completely buggy, also, take a look at what it says about the processor!
I just want to go back to Android 11, but don't want to root my phone, is there a way to do it without rooting?
its Buggy you have a 888+
I read somewhere that they recommend you reset the phone back to factory defaults after upgrading to 12.
Doing this has resolved a lot of flakey issues when I've flashed custom ROMs in the past.

Download System updater apk there, download the downgrade zip there and use that to go back to A11.

Mine was super buggy too. Try to factory reset and when you restore from a Google back up DON'T select "wifi settings, passwords, etc" . I had all my notifications saying "enter to view content" and a whole bunch of bugs that doing that fixed. As for putting the zip at "root" just put it here.
