I've looked everywhere for a solution/answer to this with no avail..
I recently lost my rooted HTC 816 (sprint) -- another story -- I had no trouble rooting and modding this phone exactly how I liked, with xposed etc. (was waiting patiently on cm14 xposed support like everyone else )
So, I decided to buy the exact same phone (so I think?) used from ebay. Condition was great, no problems, got the bootloader unlocked & TWRP flashed; then moved on to flashing Bigsupersquid's latest CM13 a5ul
Flash seemed fine, no errors. Booted up to the "welcome" screen (where you begin the initial setup of wifi/networks etc) -- on the VERY FIRST screen, I hit 'next' and it freezes?! what!
I've tried other roms, almost all of them do this on my phone now: CM14 a5ul, tried going back 2-3 versions of CM13 a5ul, still nothing.
The ones I HAVE gotten to load were cm12 (ugh..please dont do this to me!) and a version of CM13 with security back in January 2016 (got past the welcome screen, but wifi didnt work on that version back then).
I did notice all the ones that DIDNT work, were a5ul -- and the plain a5 ones work.. not sure if someone can tell me the difference between a5 and a5ul ? (google helped none).
vastly hoping someone can help point me in the right direction here..? I wish I had more info from my old 816 to track down a difference between the two..
any logs something may show up in?
oh another note, my recovery boot screen seems to be a bit different as well.. I don't remember it having an HBOOT option before (could be wrong) & after unlocking bootloader it says "*** TAMPERED ***" before "*** UNLOCKED ***"
I don't remember it saying tampered on my last one either. if any of the rest of this info helps, the rest of that screen says:

bootloop mode.and keep't bootlooping again
and again
all i get is the start up screen,
with yes you guessed it
(Telstra NextG network 3g crap)
All I want to do is try and get my phone from
this bootloop mode and try and recover...
my phone back to how it was.
Its hard to explain,
ok when i go in to the boot screen
i have this on my phone

Hello XDAer's...
I am a long long time reader, first time poster. I am of the mind that if I have a problem there has got to be someone on a forum that has had it too, and I work it out myself by reading the 100's of other solutions. It has served me well... until today. I've rooted a few phones in the past, including a DHD, but this time I've managed to get myself in a bit of a bind.
I ran the latest AceHack kit on a branded Vodaphone Australia Desire HD. I read the effen' manual but I'm sure I missed something. The process SEEMED to end on it's own accord ('press any key to exit'), though when the phone rebooted it loads the HTC logo... then fades to black. From what I've pieced together it has something to do with the screen type being SLCD and I'm running a version of recovery that doesn't support it? Just a guess.

Good news (as far as I can tell):
* I can use the SDK tools to run Fastboot
* I made a Goldcard (probably useless anyhow)
Bad news (apart from the obvious):
* I can't run ADB
I'm medium-n00b: I can work my way around most things, but this has me beaten after 6hrs of playing. From what I can tell most of my options require me to have S-Off, but I don't... and it's becoming apparent that I can't do this via Fastboot.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, and I will do my best to repay the favour forward.
Ryan
welcome in the club!
Hello chr0nic2k11
Well, I think, we are in a comparable situation. Exept you seems to have a goldcard - i think, i wrecked mine with formating it. :-(

It's kind of frustrating, because I'm sure, for a xda-pro, it is a thing of minutes, to get our DHD's back to life. I already tried for hours and don't even know, if there is a chance for rescue at all.
Good luck to us!

If you can somehow get your phone into fastboot, (don't know if u can still load up hboot), you can flash a stock ROM (thru USB cable). This worked for me to unroot my phone and put back to stock. It should work if you can get the right ROM, google stock roms and nav the site to your model (DHD is code named ace)
Hope this helped and good luck
EDIT : http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Ace << shipped ROM for DHD
Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using XDA
hey, dont know if it will help, but i got stuck in a boot loop last night and i pulled the battery.
i couldnt get back into recovery by holding power and volume up or down, but when i restarted the phone by holding power button and volume up and down at the same time. this got me into bootloader, from there i was able to get to recovery and reload a nandroid backup...
If you flashed a good ROM and your stuck in hboot, use fastboot and use the following command 'fastboot oem boot' that should force your phone to boot.

Phone Current Possible specs -
Android Version - 2.3.5
HTC sense version - 3.0
software number - 3.13.720.2
Kernel version - 2.6.35.10-g931a37e - (Not sure about this one)
baseband version - 12.65.60.29U_26.14.04.28_M
Build number - 3.13.720.2 CL208029 - (Not sure about this one)
Here is the situation -
My Non-Rooted HTC DHD somhow got stuck yesterday morning, after i woke up. No idea why it happened and everything. I tried pulling out battery and restarting, also tried recovery but not help - it was stuck on 'HTC - quitely brilliant' splash screen.
So I went ahead and tried to factory-reset it from Vol-Down + Power button. The process rather ended quickly than anticipated (I have done this earlier once so know that it cant be so fast). Post this, after every reboot now, the phone takes very long on splash screen, and eventually goes up to HTC wallpaper (the colorful one) but no controls are loaded and nothing happens (not even any error message). it cant be shut down unless i pull out the battery.
So after this has happened, i also tried to see what happens in HBOOT -> FastBoot -> BootLoader and it showed me this error -
SD Checking ...
Loading ... [PD98DIAG.ZIP]
No Image!
So assuming that perhaps I need the correct ROM file, I started looking up on forums and tried below 2 RUU EXE files (with HTC Stock ROMs)-
1. RUU_ACE_HTC_WWE_1.32.405.6_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155891_signed.exe
2. RUU_ACE_Sese30_s_htc_wwe_3.12.405.1_radio_12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_m_release_225512_signed.exe
Well after running the first RUU.exe, I got a little wiser (I guess!) and understood that the RADIO version for RUU should match with my phones RADIO. So i tried the second one, which made me further wiser and i understood that the ROM Version in RUU should also match my phones current version.
Now after all this knowledge, when I tried to found an RUU/ ROM with
3.13.720.2 and Radio v 26.14.04.28_M, I am not able to get any file which suits my need.
1. Can someone please help me to understand, which ROM can be used to restore my phone to working condition (and if my analysis so far is correct or not)?
2. What would be the correct way to restore my phone to working condition, if I am doing something wrong?
PS: As of now, I just want to get it up and running w/o Rooting, if possible...
Thanks for helping me out -
~The431001
No replies yet? is my question completely wrong??
Pls help guys....
Your handset's firmware is 3.13.720.2, you tried to restore using 1.32.405.6 & 3.12.405.1
You will run into a few issues here.
Firstly your firmware indicate your not on a WWE (World Wide English - HTC Generic) firmware, the x.xx.720.x in your firmware shows this.
Secondly your firmware version is higher than that your trying to restore to. i.e. 3.13.xxx.x as apposed to 1.32.xxx.x & 3.12.xxx.x
Because of those factors you cannot restore using those methods. You need to find a matching firmware to restore.
AFAIK this firmware isn't publicly available. I'm afraid your only option at this juncture is to contact HTC or your retailer and get it repaired under warranty.
Hello,
I recently picked up an HTC M9 T-Mobile. I have ATT so I decided to go though the steps of unlocking the device via this link. I actually managed to it get done in a relatively short amount of time so I figured 'This is nice, but why not install a custom rom like you did on your m7, same stuff rite?'
I believe i was an idiot and installed a new kernel and firmware in addition to the rom making my IMEI vanish along with most of the important information about my device. I tried HD Rev 20 and ViperOne.
So I RUU back to my correct stock rom, and now I can't get into the twrp recovery. I was under the impression RUU didn't mess with the recovery partition. I've attempted to flash it several times however it shoots back an error : 35 ru_partition_not_support recovery
I have tried searching and searching for the past few hours and I don't know if I'm blind, or if I'm just screwed. I hate asking for help on here, I know the search function work I just can't seem to find this exact issue.
I'd like to just be clear and mention I can actually boot into stock. As well as booting into the bootloader, and adb recognizes the phone. Ironically the device is still 'unlocked' after all of this, however my recovery is missing entirely, I don't even have the original recovery. When I attempt to access the recovery I get a picture of a phone with a red ! inside it.
The RUU I used was 3.39.531.7
Something I feel may or may not be related, when in download mode I see at the bottom:
FILE /mnt/media_rw/ext_sd/0PJAIMG.zip

I have a feeling this is irrelevant if it has to do with the SD card. I also have a really strange feeling this is something stupid easy that I am missing.
Some additional information, please let me know if I missed something:

I am a dumbass.
I flashed with an older version of twrp and that fixed the issue.

Which version of twrp worked? I continue to get the same error with every version.
Ok, so I did a little digging around, and it seems like I should be able to handle this. But I would really like some guidance from some experienced developers. I recently bought a certified refurbished factory unlocked m8 from Amazon, and it is branded T-Mobile. I I am a cricket user so I run on the att towers , not that that really matters. I just want to get this thing unbranded , and loaded with the HTC sense and or android software without having any of the T-Mobile screens or apps or any of that. Like it came straight from HTC with no carrier stuff on it. I understand I'll have to root, S off ( whatever that means) and a bunch of other things. I've played with it a little bit, getting into fast boot and recovery mode on the phone itself while not connected to the computer. I have no software that I need for this task, nor any of the roms yet or anything else. I am hoping this community of developers can help me with suggestions for the easiest and quickest way to do this, and then I think I want to relock it, not to a carrier but so that everything stays set until and if I decide I want to do any more with the m8. I want the m8 just stock HTC like fresh off the line, not really sure I need developer mode unlocked on it as far as the rom or what have you. But,I'm not sure, that's why I'm here hoping you guys can help me. And I was looking through the posts about doing this to m8'S so please don't just point me to those, I need some more clarification and basically just a step by step on how to get this done , and then I'll probably be asking for tips on what I can do with the desire 520 , if all goes well with the m8 and it replaces my 520 then I would like to use my 520 to practice and see what all I can do with rooting and modifying everything . Anyways. To recap Please help me get the m8 like I just bought it from HTC with no carrier so only stock HTC software, and I don't know if it still gets updated or not but the ability for ota updates just in case. And locked back up so I can't somehow accidently screw it up. And thanks in advance for all your help and advice everyone

Ok guessing I'm in S off mode already based on that and figured that this information would help you guys better inform me of what steps I will need to take .
Does anyone know if loading the newest rom from HTC for unlocked phones will get change the cid and remove the T-Mobile apps or will I need to manually change the cid to something somehow and then load the HTC rom. Please any advice would be very helpful, there is so much content on this site to sift through and I work twelve hour shifts 6 days a week and have a two year old, I am having a tough time finding the time to go through all these posts so any advice on this or please link me to a post that would solve this would be immensely helpful and very appreciated

There are some different approaches you can take. If it's the official HTC RUU (ROM Update Utility) you want to use, you would need to change the phone's CID. Then I would suggest the US Developer's Edition RUU, which is designed for use on AT&T's network (and therefore will have full AT&T band support).
The process will be somewhat involved. Briefly, you'll need to:
1) Setup adb/fastboot and unlock the bootloader: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708571
2) Put custom recovery TWRP 3.1 on the phone: https://twrp.me/devices/htconem8gsm.html
3) Root by flashing SuperSU 2.79 using TWRP: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/stable-2016-09-01supersu-v2-78-release-t3452703
4) Change the CID and MID: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/guide-update-to-official-developer-t3002003
5) Finally, run the 6.12.1540 RUU: http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_M8_UL_M60_SENSE70_MR_BrightstarUS_WWE_6.12.1540.4.exe
Another possible method, stop after step 2 above, then flash the ROM from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/rom-stock-unlocked-developer-sense-7-t3262894
