Needing Help with Root + Unlock - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I'm needing some help as I'm about to just give up on getting my note 4 rooted. I'm following the instructions from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...tep-step-stock-n910v-6-0-1-to-t3426905/page22
Along with every other root + unlock thread in this phone's forum sections, and still am failing.
I have yet to get it to unlock. Most of the time I'm lucky to be able to get temp root. If I do get temp root the phone will just bootloop either before I do the unlocking commands or immediately afterwards. I always have had to Odin back to 5.1.1 and start over.
Am I missing something or am I doing something wrong? Please, any help is appreciated - I'm desperate to get this phone going as I just bought it - it sucks I can't really use it yet. Hopefully I don't end up just giving up on it.

@droidian1441 by chance did you make any progress?

Yes I did. I ended up killing three sd cards with no hope of return, but I just kept at it until it finally just did it. Not sure it was worth killing three sd cards, though.

rooting question

Hey guys,
I'm interested in rooting just so I can get tethering working and be able to delete some useless apps but I don't want to get rid of my factory Rom. What can I do? I also have not done the HTC SD update but I want to cause I don't want to spend for a new working SD card.

waiting patiently for the answer to this...
rooting doesn't give you a different rom. a different rom gives you a different rom.

Several users have reported that even after applying the OTA update, they were able to successfully root using toast's method. At the moment, I plan to apply the update and then root when I get my EVO on Monday. Unless something changes before then, it's as good as done.
Alright good stuff. Thx for replies. Do you guys know if that one step root sticks to phone even after boot?
It sticks but your not able to flash roms or do nandroid backups or anything. Your much better off using toasts method.
First thanks to all the gurus here at this amazing website were technology is constantly being challenge and and with good results. I take my hat off to you
I just wanted to bring an issue I am having and hope it can be resolve if not it will be a learning experience, but I know that with so many great people in this website I have no doubt that my issue could be resolve and if not I will continue to try to resolve the problem, I love challenges in the electronic world. I have been in it for the last 27 years.
My situation is the following:
I was able to root my phone, but have 2 questions;
1) Why when I look under superuser I have nothing in my screen?
2) Why I can't have access to my sdcard through HTC Synch even know I have update to the new firmware?
I have try this in different ways, updating to the factory software and then rooting as well as rooting first and then try to update which after thinking about it I think it was stupid of me.
I am sorry about my extended post, but I just wanted to thank you guys for your continous support to all of the cell phone community.
Again thankyou and continue the good work

(HELP) TMO HTC One- keep wiping and still end up in bootloop

I got a new HTC One m8 from Tmobile a few weeks ago and instantly went to root and find out about S on and how I can get rid of it. I followed a rooting tutorial on unlockr diligently and unlocked bootloader and installed TWRP and SuperSU. I moved on to S-off the device and got to the last step of the tutorial where it starts to "chug" bottles(Firewater). After the first bottle, it tells me I'm out of luck and that my phone is patched. This confused me. Does this mean that my phone is forever stuck S-on? or does it mean that the developers of firewater haven't developed an S-off method for the newest version of HTC's software and that I simply have to wait.
This is just my first problem, even though I can't flash custom ROMs I was fine because I was willing to give the stock ROM a chance and just tweak it with root privileges, but no, the next time I had to restart for some various reason it starts bootlooping every few minutes. I swear I didn't do anything wrong when rooting. Is it just too new and the newest HTC software makes the rooting process obsolete making it impossible to root?
So I end up wiping the phone not being able to save all the pictures I took on my trip in the mountains. My phone is still rooted but the phone is wiped. I go about thinking the solution is fixed and when I decide to nandroid backup, I go into recovery, do a simple backup and when I restart it goes straight back to the infuriating bootloop. A simple nandroid backup shouldn't make it go into a bootloop.
So I decide to relock the bootloader, install the stock recovery and software again and start over. Maybe I really did mess up rooting. I go through the process again and low and behold my phone goes into a bootloop again.
I'm so sick and tired of this phone and I'm not sure why it always seems to happen to me. I follow the tutorials closely and it always ends up ****ting on me.
It recently went into a bootloop after a good 3 day run where I managed to keep the phone on the entire time. Had to restart because the wifi antenna wasn't working and another bootloop ensued. I decided to make this thread to see if any other new users are experiencing similar difficulties and seeing if anyone knows a cause or maybe a solution. Right now in the process of unrooting and going back to stock.
It would be a shame if there really is no way for me to unlock the full potential of my new phone. Almost wishing I had bought a nexus.
Thank you for anyone who was willing to read that and to anyone who takes the time to write a response. Thanks!

If you wanna fix it quick then just do an RUU (t-mobile one) and after you've done that use Sunshine to root, unlock and S-OFF your phone. All though Sunshine costs $25 it is a sure fire to work.
You can find a tutorial for the RUU in the t-mobile forum I believe, not sure as im replying to this before I go to bed but it should have one. If by some chance "TMO" doesn't mean T-Mobile then my bad. Anyways if you get confused take your time and do your research or wait for someone else or me to assist you further.
Also if you used Xposed then that could be the problem, I've had it randomly bootloop me after days of use, just google the Xposed deactivate script zip or Uninstaller script and flash it to remove it. If you don't have it then don't do this part.
Lastly I doubt you'll regret buying an M8 after you get it setup properly, it's a great phone but of course that's just mine and a lot of people's opinion. Anyways good luck and hope one of my solutions fix it! If not then don't be afraid to ask more questions or request further assistance whether from me or someone else.

It does, although T-Mobile is a huge carrier in Europe, and AFAIK only the US T-Mob variant has an RUU (and not immediately clear what version the OP has).
You can flash custom roms without s-off, and have you tried wiping cache and fixing permissions? Idk if that'd solve it or not but worth a try.

So, in 2016, is there still no root for my Samsung Verizon Note 4?

I just managed to get this device from someone the other day. Having been an iphone 5c user for a while, going to a 5c after my last frustrating and horrible android experience with an HTC inspire device, I am back on android for the storage expansion so that I can play emulator games- only to find myself pulling my hair out ONCE AGAIN after all the numerous conflicting advice/ threads/tutorials out here which I have countless wasted hours on already. I don't have time to read through tutorials promising a downgrade from lollipop to kit kat, in hopes of a root so I can pair my ps3 controller wirelessly to my device... constantly stuck on odin failing and what have you, so just give it to me dry and clean. Please help as this is extremely frustrating and annoying.
Can I or can I not root this device? if so How? ( please provide detailed instructions as i don't know what the lingo is around here) If not i'm putting this thing right back on craigslist where I got it from. I am running 5.0.1
All I want to do is pair my ps3 controller wirelessly to my note 4, thought I would be able to do that until sixaxis said it needed 'root access' :silly:
if theres a way to circumvent this, please let me know. I do NOT WANT to use a corded controller with this. Battery life is already kinda sucky on this phone so i'll ened to charge the device as i'm playing

Have not read enough, if you have a Verizon locked bootloader... Recommend to put it right away to Craigslist because no root has been found good luck
If you can deal with root on a temp basis, meaning it is lost every reboot, then go that route. Otherwise as EdrickMg stated, it is not available.
How do I know whether the bootloader is locked or not? I might want to buy an N910V, as its much cheaper than international/Indian version, but I need to make sure whether or not the bootloader is unlocked. Cause I can't even think about not rooting a phone in first one hour of purchase. What could I ask the seller to confirm about the bootloader?
If it's a Verizon Note 4, then the bootloader is locked. There is no permanent rooting method for this phone. People are still hopeful that there might be one coming, but I'm willing to bet that there'll never be a method to root it. This phone has been out since October of 2014, with no root method found. There is a temporary root method that will allow you to root your phone, but the next time you reboot, it's gone and your phone is re-locked. To me, that's a lot of effort for something that you lose whenever you reboot your phone, but that's just my opinion. Also, this temporary root is just root - it doesn't unlock your bootloader.
If you absolutely must have a rootable phone with unlocked bootloader, then look elsewhere.
The only thing that we do have is debloater, which is a method that allows us to turn off and block almost anything we want. For me, that's enough, because the only reason I'd want root is to uninstall all of the crap that comes with this phone. It doesn't get rid of the junk, it just turns it off and keeps it from running.
If you want root to be able to install an ad blocker or to install custom kernels and/or ROMs, you cannot do it on this phone and likely (in my opinion), never will be able to.
Okay, I don't understand all these contract things as we don't have them in our country, but Verizon Note 4 and N910V, they are different? If not, how come there is a custom ROM and kernel for the SM-N910V model? The phone does show a red screen where Verizon is written on it. I am not understanding this!

There is a Verizon Note 4 Developers Edition that comes with an unlocked bootloader and it is rootable. I had to buy it straight from Samsung at full retail price. Totally worth it in my opinion. It is no longer available for sale on the Samsung site though

So your bootloader is unlocked already, correct? You need to have an unlocked bootloader and be running Lollipop, here's the thread that shows you how/what to do...

I used the instructions in that thread and didn't have any issues.

Thanks bud I'll try it tonight! I gone like 6 pages into Google trying to find something that works I got a little confused on the baseband version part. This is a silly question but if I have mine on
N910VVRU2CPF3 and use Odin and flash version: N910VVRU1ANJ5 it won't brick my device? And no my bootloader is not unlocked yet

You'll want to flash the N910VVRU2BPA1_N910VVZW2BPA1_N910VVRU2BPA1_HOME.tar .md5 file in ODIN as that is the firmware that Lollipop expects/works on. I don't know what android version N910VVRU1ANJ5 firmware is for. Flashing N910VVRU1ANJ5 shouldn't brick your phone but you will need to have it on N910VVRU2BPA1 to install Lollipop and root.
Trust me, just follow the instructions in the post I previously linked. It's all laid out for you in what is pretty much the easiest way you can do it. As long as you do it in the order listed, with the files provided, it will work.

Nj5 was kitkat but I will flash the version you said I greatly appreciate it
Wait hold on my bootloader is locked will it still work? Sorry for the annoying questions I'm a little rusty cause I only get a new phone every 2 years so I barely ever root lol
Rooting this phone is pretty tricky and you may have to repeat the process a few times for it to work. Follow the guide custom_roms_epeptic posted, that's the one I used and even though it took me a couple hours to go from stock to Nseven, it did indeed work. I would recommend using the version of kingoroot found in the zip contained in that guide, I tried kingroot and the newest version of kingoroot and both got hung up at 90% or just didn't work at all.

Part of the steps you will be doing will be to unlock the bootloader, this is mandatory. If your CID starts with 15, you can change the CID of your device to that of a dev edition device, which can then have its bootloader unlocked. Like I said before, it's all laid out for you in the other thread.

Root for lg metropcs k10 (ms428)

Is there any working and safe root for ms428 (k10 metrocps variant)?
I have been looking everywhere. Tried kingoroot but still no go.
I am starting to get frustrated
I'm giving one more week then exchanging it. I too am surprised there's no root method out yet. I bricked and exchanged a device already. No success trying to recover the device either using the Spanish screenshot disaster explanation which doesn't work.

I would say LG Stylo is closest but the camera isn't as good. Lens and size is nice but hardware processing is crap, but seems like every store has been on back order for them and with Stylo 2 out it's probably going to be shelved soon. I have faith in King root for solid success with k10 soon though.

We cant even use link2sd. This phone has 16gb rom but can let us use only 10gb. Smh.
No 3d games for us. And were not even allowed to mount the sd card as internal storage. Only portable.
Maybe the Galaxy J. I loved the Stylo but the GPS didn't work if the phone got hot.
I just got this pjone today because my old one broke and i had no way to research phones
Guy at metro over hyped it

my patience is running out tho hahaha. 8gb worth of system files is crazy. they shouldve just put it as 8gb phone internal. instead of 16gb haha.
I'm running out of patience also. I've posted requests on android forums twice asking why there is no support for this phone and still haven't gotten a reply. It makes no sense whatsoever, when I got my old L70 there was a big support forum for it and the LgK10 is a much better phone so why no support? Pissing me off.
At least I would like a reason from Android Forums for why they have ignored the K10.

I'd buy the L70 again. It was an awesome little phone. Totally agree re: lack of communication. It looks like we had someone post up a failed root attempt about two weeks ago, along with another dev mentioning he'd start on it with no response since.
Devs, we just want to know if there's someone out there actively working on the K10. I can absolutely respect the time it takes to get it done right, but we can't tell if we're waiting on someone or no one.
I'm about ready to jump ship for the J7 or an original G Stylo (if I can get my hands on one). The bloat and stock setup on the K10 are maddening.
Can temp obtain root
I can get root temp using kingroot
Usjng the latest version of kingroot and will either root, or fail all the way to the request research for root button
I lose the root as soon as my phone restarts
The first time I tried it I got root, and phone made no restarts.
The second time I tried to get root back it eventually failed all the way to the research screen but the device did reboot several times during the kingroot root.
The latest time I rooted it the same as the first, no reboot.
I believe part of the problem is keeping kingroot as the superuser app, I think if I replace it with super su it may keep root.
I've seen several people say supersu ends up brick phone

I am but it looks like we may be screwed without any sort of help from the forums folks. It just doesn't make sense that they would bypass giving this phone any consideration for support.
Count me as someone else looking to root this phone

Screen shot below please put together since I can't post links yet

Suspicious activity

After resisting the temptation of having custom ROM on my Xperia SS c1904 since couple of years. I couldn't anymore and tried to flash cm13 yesterday.
The device was stuck in bootloop and after nearly 20 hours of continuous effort to recover the device, I was able to get it back working. FREE ADVICE : Don't play with roms on your main device.
Thanks for all the persons for sharing the ideas content. Just a small advice : please use standard websites for uploading the files. Many of the files are broken links.
Finally, I had my bootloader unlocked (shame on Sony for their worst instructions which caused nightmare). I've trying cm13, I realised that it was really not for me.
Now after flashing latest stock firmware, I was confused to root as I didn't find any threads which was for rooting an unlocked Bootloader device. I've used towel root before but I was afraid to install cwm recovery and other stuff which might brick my phone.
So, I had no choice but kingroot.. it went smoothly without any reboot and viola.. I was happy.
Then I've continued to restore all the backups I've made using titanium one by one. BUT ALL OF SUDDEN, ALL MY DATA ON SD CARD WAS LOST.
I SUSPECT KINGROOT for the issue. can anyone confirm if I'm I just worried or my data has indeed stolen? Is there any way I can check what caused the data lost? The SD card is working fine. I'm glad I've all the backups on PC. But I'm just worried that all my data is in hands of ....... U know.
Let me know your valuable feedback please. Thanks in advance.
EDIT : I have found the lost data in "lost.dir" today. so, little relief from kingroot

Probably not the KingRoot's fault. I've been rooting my C1905 using KingRoot for years now and saw no problems at all.

KingRoot is actually half-adware, since it comes with Purify and if you uninstall it, it will come back. That's why I never use KingRoot after unlocking the bootloader and try out the SuperSU way.

1. I have seen purify, I have disabled it
2. I have also disabled few access rights which were enabled for kinguser app.
3. Also, found lost files in lost.dir today..
so., I'm little relieved now as the issue could be due to some other android setting.
