Testing XL Charging - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

So I've been testing my chargers at the most basic level with every day tools.
Today I got my Kill-a-Watt and plugged in the motorola turbo 30 just to see what it reported. Then I plugged in the stock Pixel XL charger and it said the same, which was strange since the Motorola Turbo 30 is supposed to be 5V 3A usb type c, which would be 15watts, but it said it was pulling 18watts just like Pixel charger was reporting.
So I alternated and switched cables, notice that the Pixel charger would report only pulling 12-15watts. So I reverted to cable I first tried, Pixel cable, but it still reported 12-15watts... I was like humm what happened. I plugged the Motorola turbo 30 again, same 11-14wats..
So I restart the phone, 18.5-18.9watts on motorola turbo 30 and same on Pixel charger. Started switching cables again, same 18.5-18.9watts.
After a short time it switches back down to 14-15watts
Anyone experience this?

[Q] Pixel XL not charging when plugged into portable battery

I'm currently using a RAVPower 20100 mah Power Bank, which has charged all my other phones (Nexus 6p, 5x, Blackberry Priv, iPhone) with no issues. When I try to charge my Pixel XL, the phone will charge for about a minute, and then stop charging. If I unplug the phone from the charger and put it back in, it will charge again, but still, only for a minute.
The only way that I have gotten the phone to consistently charge, was to plug in the Pixel with one of my other phones at the same time. I assume the charger is staying active because it detect the other phone is drawing current, and continues to leave both ports active.
Has anyone else experienced this, or have a better workaround than charging two devices simultaneously?
Have you tried a reboot before plugging in? I have had this issue and reboots fix it for me.

Wall adaptor stopped charging

The wall charger that came with the pixel 2 xl no longer charges my phone. I received my 2xl on the 24th and it has been working flawlessly but this morning i woke up with no charge after being plugged in all night. I tried with an anker type c charger with the 2xl cable and it charges so i know the culprit is the wall adapter.
Has anyone else experienced a malfunction with the wall adapter or charging in general?
I have no problem using my anker charger since i bought it for the 2xl as another room charger but i dont find it acceptable that the stock charger stops working a day after 2 weeks.
Any ideas on how fix this? Would google possibly replace the wall adapter?
looks like this is an issue with the November security patch.
Same thing has happened to me on my Pixel 2 XL and i have three different official wall chargers and they will not work (all Type C PD), however it will work with the qualcom quick charge connector in my car.
reviewing the internet other people have the same issue and all seem post November update.

Pixel 2 XL not charging with low power connections.

My Pixel XL would change with older USB ports and my portable battery. It would show that it was slow charging but it would charge.
The Pixel 2 XL shows a charging icon (nothing about being slow) but it will not charge the battery. Hours later the battery percentage actually goes down a little.
Only charging from the wall seems to work.
seeing this with chargers that are 1A and lower - haven't tested between 1A and 2A yet
3A and above (stock charger) is fine

Well I’m testing it out with two Pixel 2 XLs this morning because of staining issue on the first one and the dead touch edge this which I guess will be fixed in an update but they sent me a new one anyway.
So:
The new Pixel 2 XL has less stain marks on the white back.
The screen still turns blue as I ever so slightly tilt it but screen is whiter when dead on as the old one is a little peach-ish. That is with both screens at the same brightness and with the same color profile.
The new Pixel 2 XL is also charging with the same portable Duracell charger that the old one can’t use. Even over night with the charging icon on the old Pixel 2 XL would not charge and the Duracell charger would still showed full like nothing happened.
I’d just get my money back if they did not have my (in perfect condition) Pixel XL for trade in that they still have not processed yet and I can’t wait to see if I’m one of the ones they try rob by saying it was not reset or not as described etc.
Got this from good old off-shore support.
Furthermore, please note that it's recommended to use the original charger that was supplied with the phone for best results. Also, the 3rd party chargers may cause damages to your device.
The USB cables and chargers seem ok. They all work with my Nexus and Pixel XL and they work with the replacement Pixel 2 XL. I was just wondering if that was yet another known issue?
I’ll be sending the older Pixel 2 XL back as soon as I move everything over to the new one. While they both have poor touch sensitivity at the edge of the screen at least the new one will charge from low amp USB ports. As Google has my old Pixel XL I don’t have an option.
Will the poor touch response at the edges be fixed in firmware? Some on-line are saying it will be but I just got the 8.1 update and its still hard to use keys and buttons at the very edge of the screen.
I kinda wish I could just get my old Pixel (1) XL back. Google and LG really let us down this time.
I noticed this when I tried to charge my Pixel 2XL in my car using a micro USB to C adapter, which worked fine with my Nexus 6P. However, using a USB C to A works fine. Doesn't charge quite as fast as using original, but it's pretty good. Same with my portable charger. Luckily I won't have to use it often, but now I know I can, without having to buy a new charger.
can we get this to XDA or AP so this can be investigated properly?
if we can't use any old portable battery chargers or plug into our auto via USB and charge this is a serious issue

Pixel 3 XL - Charging Slowly - Here we go again.

When I got my Pixel 2 XL all my cable were not good enough and the phone would say Charging Slowly and not charge. Now with the Pixel 3 XL again my new cables are not good enough and it says Charging Slowly and it don’t charge. Overnight it did not charge. The same cable in the Pixel 2 XL did say Charging Slowly but went from 70-ish% to full in about an hour. What the heck man?
Have you tried using the charger and cable that came in the box with the phone? If you're using 3rd party cables I would try the OEM that shipped with the device to determine if it's a hardware issue or not.

Can my Pixel 2 XL brake chargers? Very odd story.

Hi folks something very odd happened yesterday and I'd love your views please.
I have a Pixel 2 XL that recently stopped charging overnight and turned itself off. It was plugged into non official fast charger from Amazon I'll call "charger 1". I turned it back on and it still refused to charge.
I then tried another charger (charger 2) and it also didn't charge. I then even plugged it into a laptop and Windows said there was a power surge and wasn't going to charge it.
I had also noticed an electrical smell and the phone getting hot when it was plugged in and not charging.
I am going to return it to Google but as I need a phone for my business I went out and bought a brand new Pixel 3a XL.
Now here is the strange thing. The official charger that came with my Pixel 3a XL charges my old Pixel 2 XL and also now the two chargers I used yesterday (charger 1 and 2) don't charge either phone...
It seems a remarkable coincidence both chargers 1 and 2 broke at the same time. Could my Pixel 2 XL somehow be responsible for breaking chargers? If so, then why didn't it break the charger that came with my Pixel 3a XL?
Now I don't think I can return the Pixel 2 XL to Google.
Any help appreciated! Thanks
If the charge port on the phone had a short in it, then yes you can possibly be trashing chargers.
