Hey Zenfoners
Happy with my phone but I have a problem with battery usage.
I'm using GSam Battery Monitor and Kernel (Android OS) under App Usage seems very high.
For example today the phone has used 26% in 5h 45m with 30 minutes of screen on time. Screen usage shows 18%
But App Usage is 56% and 48% of this is Kernel (Android OS). CPU usage for Kernel (Android OS) is 4h 10m. And the phone has only been on for 5h45m.
I can't check what is keeping wake lock because I don't have root.
On idle using wifi it is using 2-3% per hour when my LG G3 and Note 3 use about 1.5% per hour on idle.
Anyone else have this problem?
I'm glad I found your post. Highly frustrating with my zenfone 2. Massive battery drain with google apps and Android OS. Yesterday or it was Google Backup Transport, today it's some other google stuff. Would love to know how to properly debug this stuff. I tried disabling most of pre-loaded Asus stuff but who knows what's causing battery drain. I can lose over 1% of battery PER MINUTE.
I just did a factory reset and added these apps:
GSAM Battery
Dolphin browser
LINE Messenger
Touchpad keyboard
Google Inbox
Google Translate
Google Keep
Android OS is still being crazy. Amazing that you can buy a brand new phone and it fails almost out of the box, and it seems the OS developer is at fault. No wonder people are switching to iPhone!

So I installed a system update adorable through the menu which seems to be helping now. Android OS still seems the biggest battery drain but at least the drain isn't outrageous like it was before. There's a discussion about the fix on reddit about it:

Were you rooted before? For the 1st "Battery Used by App" screenshot?
I've not been rooted so on the latest s/w update. Haven't seen behaviour like this on any of my recent devices. Terrible battery usage when idle, and all my Google settings (location, backup, etc) are the same.
Well i almost get at 100% of battery status of battery life almost 3 days.
Firmware : 2.15.40.13 Pre-rooted system.img by Shakalaca
Xposed module for ZF2 installed + Greenify (Donate) app
Basically i geenifed all system apps {some you cant greenify) including power saver app which is build in + normall apps.
I will add SS when i will charge battery to 100%.
I cant understand why people gettin device discharging after 6 hours etc.
Follow my guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/help/how-to-upgrade-cn-version-to-ww-t3101556 to update to the latest WW OTA
Xposed : Here
I'm on the latest WW firmware but I shouldn't have to root, greenify etc. Didn't do it on my Note 3/HTC One/LG G3. What's the point in having 4GB of RAM if you're flushing it every few minutes. I do have location settings and history on, as they were with previous phones, but everything else is very conservative. Zenfone 2 is the only one that shows crazy Android OS usage with same apps and same sync/backup/location etc settings. All on Android 5.0 too!

How you can compare different phones according to the battery life if they were made in different technology and they using Snapdragons not Intel components.
Thats wrong mate
If you moaning about battery life in ZF2 you should compare it with diff zenfones ( ZF5,ZF6 etc.) or other Intel based devices
Note 3 was an Exynos.
So Intel = still bad then
I haven't rooted or anything. Battery life is now acceptable but Android OS is still near the top, but nothing crazy like it was before the system update. Does your build number match mine? I have the TW phone, so I assume TW software.
Battery graph shows almost continuous usage with screen almost always on.

Same build number except for ASUS_Z00A (1.8 ghz 4gb RAM) model.
Well ROOT + XPOSED + GREENIFY = 8 Days show battery )
From 23:00 at previous day i left phone with turned on WiFi . Overnight for 9h it drained 4% of the battery so chart is correct.
I fix my battery drain in this way:
Install all OTA updates
Factory Reset.
Reinstall All.
Battery drain seems to be only if you install an OTA without Factory Reset and with all apps already installed.
It take several hours to reinstall all ... but it works !
No more battery drain here !
I done a wipe cache instead of factory reset. You reckon it's the same thing or would I get better results v so th reset? Currently getting 5-6 hours sot with 2.3ghz 4g2g ram. Thanks

I hope you're right!
I did factory reset, install OTA update, and reinstall all. Had one good day. Today, I've lost 6% in about 30 minutes. Even more amusing, the biggest consumer is Wi-Fi ... Which isn't even turned on! Crazy stuff.
I think this'll be the 4th time re-installing stuff now. Good times!

Hey there all. If you're still having high android os usage it could be due to calendar storage constantly waking up your phone, check out my post in another thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62730039&postcount=21
it is still lolippop 5.0???
I have owned this phone for about 3 days, but I have some battery issues.
I attached 3 pictures, and on the first picture, you can see there appears to be no wakelocks, but on the 2nd picture, the Android OS used the vast majority of my battery life, and the 3rd picture, Android System has a lot of "Wake Up Device" (i don't know what the number means is it minutes?)..
I have uninstalled/disabled most of the apps I don't need, and have the brightness set to low, and on airplane mode with all sync off, and zenmotion turned off, and this still happens. I lost about 11% battery overnight with this problem. It seems like when I am using the device, the battery drops a percent every minute even when I am just scrolling through the Settings.
I only used about 1 hour screentime on this phone and the rest on idle.
I already installed both system updates.
Does anyone know why this happens? I know there is a memory leak problem, but I saw on another thread other people don't have that bad of a drain anymore...

For battery draining assistance see ZenUI app called ASUS Support: Apps/ASUS Support/Assistance/Battery/Battery drains fast/follow detailed troubleshooting steps. If battery still draining, recommend updating to latest firmware version and then performing a factory data reset. Please ensure to back up all important data as this will erase all data.

Mine seemed fine for a week and then I got this today. Pretty much done with it. Can't even get it to factory reset.

Battery drain issue still not fixed with updates???
Disable PC Link and Party Link default apps, worked for me. They're default apps using cpu all the time like they're SO Android... Disable all default apps that you don't use too
I've got here two brand new models, which differ only for touch and battery version (Z2C3 01040005 1525 and ... 1526)
The 1526 doesn't show any drain. The 1525 does, as of its very first boot. I tried keeping same settings of course.
I'd like to point out that when connected and charging it shows big steps like going from 63 to 72% and it also reaches 100% in less than 60 mins.
When disconnected the discharge path exhibits about 1:15min of operation.
May I suspect the battery is defective?
PS: after a factory reset from recovery seems have fixed the problem for now at least...
Asus Zen phone 2 laser battery drain ?
I made an account with this website and took the time to write this, so I can let users who own this phone know one of the
biggest battery drain features I've found......DISABLE HOMESCREEN APP MOVEMENT SENSOR, in app icon settings.
When you tilt your phone app icon adjust to the tilt, yes looks cool until you realize how much battery you could save by leaving then static and not constantly running a fDucking tilt sensor.

Hi, whenever I'm on a call on WhatsApp, Messenger, or any other social media, I can't use any internet related apps or my call starts dropping, and the other app also stop connecting to the server or whatsoever. As an example, I can't check FB, or use Chrome while on a call. Sometimes WiFi connection just disconnect and reconnect after a little while of trying to use two apps together while on a call. It also happened back in MiUi 11 android 10, I don't remember if it was on Android 9, but most likely. Am I the only one with this issue? I can surf internet on my pc even watch videos on YouTube without affecting the call quality on the phone, so my internet speed has nothing to do with it. Locked bootloader, MiUi 12, formatted after installing the new OS to make it trouble free, but nothing helped. Can anyone please tell me if I can downgrade this to an earlier version without getting this bricked? I know I have to unlock the bootloader, but I'm confused with that anti-rollback index or whatever it is called. Also Battery usage was 2 days before MiUi 12 with 8-10 hours display on time and now it's just one day. Appreciate your help. This is my first Xiaomi device and will be the last
1. There is a known issue with Wifi interference when Bluetooth is on. Are you using BT when talking on whatsapp? Unfortunately based on my research this is a hardware problem involving the wifi 2.4 Ghz and BT radios which interfere with each other and cannot be fixed via a software update. Downgrading will not help, and is a pain in the a** anyway because of Xiaomi's restrictions. A workaround is to use 5 Ghz (which is a different frequency than BT) or turn BT off when you need good wifi bandwidth.
2. For most people including myself battery usage is about the same with MIUI 12 as with 11 so if you are seeing a significant difference, your best option is to install Acubattery and try to determine which one of your apps is draining the battery. This is almost always the cause. There should not be more than a slight decrease compared to MIUI 11. Should be about 40 hrs including about 10 hrs SOT.
1. Thanks for the info.
2. It's weird, I never had the same battery usage on MiUi 12 even before I format the mobile. Also I've used Accu Battery app more than a week and each day after 80%-90% charge session, it started to drop battery health by 1% for last 3 days I used and I simply deleted the app finding it useless or it's my lack of knowledge ?
With Accubattery were you able to see which service or app was draining? Was the phone going into idle/sleep mode?

My phone is usually on idle and not used due to my job. But Im noticing extreme battery consumption even when Im not using it. Never had this issue with other phones. Last night I checked the batter before sleep and it was at 67% at 1 AM, today its 62% at 7 AM so there must be an issue because it should only drain 1 or 2 percents during idle.
In battery settings the top app using the battery is phone idle.
Im on xiaomi.eu 12.5.6 rom but I had the same issue with stop 12.5.3 so I dont think it's because of rom.
I had great battery life with my last phone which was poco x3 nfc with the same settings and apps so it's not because of any third party apps either.
Anyone else experiencing the same problem?
With AOSP ROMs, I even had worst experience when I installed one of the custom kernels because they somehow didn't put the phone into deep doze correctly. But yeah, the idle consumption is quite high - even on stock Kernel.
Currently I use HavocOS and its stock Kernel - and SuperFreeze (from F-Droid store) to freeze most apps right after screen lock. Idle consumption has dropped to 0.1-0.2%/h as a result. I made a thread some days ago regarding this topic... see here.
Thanks. Im gonna try your guide but it's not the most noob friendly guide I've seen
Just Kidding, thanks for your time.
Oh, my thread wasn't meant to be a guide... I did put it in "Question" like you did, but a mod seems to have moved the thread to "General"
My "solution" is only temporary - at least I hope there are still developers out there who value a low idle drain more than fast charging and benchmark numbers...

Sorry for the OT, could it be that the app. is called SuperFreezZ?
Have you noticed any good battery life gains with this app.?
Yeah, sorry, SuperFreezZ: https://f-droid.org/en/packages/superfreeze.tool.android/
For several months I had the problem that from a certain moment, the consumption at idle suddenly increased enormously (from 0.1-0.2 % to 2-3% per hour). Even if I manually forced all apps to stop, In Android's battery info "Android OS" and "Android System" showed up with double-digit percentages. I could only get the phone back to its previous behavior with a restart.
To date, however, it is not clear to me what triggered this. I suspected GCam for a while, then Osmand+, but I couldn't ever confirm that because the problem didn't start whenever I used those programs, just sometimes.
I never found a real solution for this, but SuperFreezZ did.
The best thing I've used for years now is Greenify, its hasn't received an update in more than a year but still works perfectly
Do we need root to use these apps? I remember using greenify before onmy older devices with root but havent used it for a while. Gonna see how much it drops tonight and then try to tweek some things and recheck it tomorrow night.
Weird thing is, I was getting an awesome battery life out of poco x3 nfc, could it be because of the cpu idle? Because that's the only thing that seems different between the 2 devices. (X3 even had an lcd which is supposedly less battery friendly)

Unfortunately, hardly anyone notices this because most users do exactly what the F3 was designed for: Playing games.
I came from a 2.5 years old F1 and it lasts easily longer than the F3 although it has a smaller battery and a LCD screen... The F3 behaves anything but fully developed. These latest high-end SOCs (870, 888) are really powerful, but unfortunately not equally power-efficient. That's the reason why I throttled the CPU and undervolted the GPU. This dropped the active drain from ~8 %/h to <5 %/h on my device and my usecases.

Konabess doesn't need root, afaik. Extract the boot.img of your ROM and copy it into a folder of your device. Then use Konabess to modify the settings and repack it into a modified boot.img. This file you can flash with TWRP. No guarantee that it works for xiaomi.eu, but it works for AOSP (at least it worked for me).

I'm ont he same rom as you and let me explain my experience.
My battery has been insanely good. Even with heavy usage over a period of 4 hours, which included 1.5hrs of SoT and pandora playing though bluetooth all 4 of those hours with dolby and viper enabled. Was at 100 and dropped down to 94%. So It may be an app or setting that you have installed causing problems and draining battery. The only battery saver addition I have installed is Universal GMS doze. Idle time for me It takes me about 5 hours to drop down 1%.

Well if there is an app that is causing this, it should be shown in the battery settings. But the only thing that is eating up my battery is phone idle. So it might be a service or something. Im out of options right now unless I find a way to root this rom without facing new problems.... Worst thing with miui is that you cant do things like rooting as easy as other roms.
Btw, would you please tell me the settings and xiaomi.eu version you are on? Im on 12.5.6 stable and using 120hz + vivid color scheme and most of my apps are on blcok background activity except my messaging app. And Im losing battery on phone idle not the screen on time!
Ss below.(dropped from 92 to 82 woh only 30mins screen on time doing nothing but checking xda!) And 7hrs of those 9hrs I was asleep and the phone was on airplane mode + gps off!
You could try BBS or similar apps. Maybe it's an app which prevents the phone to go to deep doze (wakelocks).
BTW: MIUI sucks

I switch my screen refresh rate down to 60hz but since your phone is idle it really shouldn't come into play unless you have always on display or turn screen on for notifications.
Rooting this phone is amazingly easy. Takes like 5mins if that. My Mi 9 lite took longer to root then this phone.
As far as an app draining battery, It more then likely not it since you saying phone idle, which in the past people have said if you phone has problems with signal this can drain a battery. For me this has been a major issue. With AT&T service I would loose double the amount of battery over night (I play pandora through out the night when sleeping). Also if you have apps that are heavy internet usage (unsure where you at but things like facebook and messenger drain tons and yet don't register battery drain on most analytics. And since you using a xiaomi.eu rom I know alot of those bg services are disabled or removed.

Yeah thanks for the info. I used to root my devices easily by flashing magisk but it seems they have changed the method, though I found the method on a post on xiaomi.eu website and rooted my device.
Tried to lower cpu frequencies a little and use superfreez app. It seems better now but not as good as what you say...
Gonna play with settings a little bit more and wait for another xiaomi.eu stable update to see if it's a bug on this version.

Someone made a auto script for it, but you will have to reflash rom and factory reset data. You really shouldn't have to change cpu feqs. Also uploading a screenshot of my last 2 hours. I know its only 21min of SoT but also 2 hours off charger but playing pandora as well as some other app usage but still at 100%

Ah, ok... I thought you could load a separate boot.img - my fault, sorry!
Then you've to have root for Konabess...
Just to show what's possible with HavocOS 4.9 and 12.5.6 EEA firmware, see atached screenshot... It's with the stock kernel of HavocOS, but with the modifications I did mention here.
Running for almost 2 days
~8 hrs SOT (2 hrs of which with 120 Hz and 2 hrs of which with 100 % brightness, otherwise 60 Hz and brightness between 25 and 50 %) and still 50 % battery left.
hi, has anyone experienced the battery drain when the phone is idle?
last night i've left the phone on 20-22% battery and when i woke up - the phone was turned off because the battery reached 0%...
when it charged - the idle battery consumption was off the wall...
device is about a month and a half old...
i'm using stock MIUI (latest, EU), not rooted
phone is slightly debloated via adb fastboot tool...
phone doesn't use 5G network at home or ever, mobile data is turned off when i'm home
i just can't figure out what is happening...
thanks in advance
Debloated too much I think. Have the same issue when I have Samsung Phone and used adb debloater
not sure about that...
i didn't touch any crucial Xiaomi apps, just recommended ones and never had any bebloat battery drain issues on any device which was debloated or even rooted
update:
last night i left the device with 38% battery, just to see what would happen
in the morning, 8 hours after - it still had 35% charge strange...
note: in the meantime, i adjusted some apps not to work in the background if not needed and uninstalled (almost) never used Google Lens (which i've installed few days ago to try something)
didn't touch any battery settings for common social and messaging apps that i use (Facebook, fb messenger, google messages)
so, maybe the culprit was either google lens or some of those adjusted apps - or the device doesn't read the battery well when under 30%... i'll see what will happen in the next few days...
@60nine Settings > Battery > Battery Use (check "Daily battery usage chart")
Look there if you see any app that has consumed much battery.
you seriously think that i don't already know how to check this? (how do you think i've found that the idle was draining the battery?
no suspicious apps there, idle battery consumption was at the top...
Sorry, I overlooked that you have already wrote it is the idle drain and not a specific app
no problem
