WiFi issue - Redmi Note 8 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi, whenever I'm on a call on WhatsApp, Messenger, or any other social media, I can't use any internet related apps or my call starts dropping, and the other app also stop connecting to the server or whatsoever. As an example, I can't check FB, or use Chrome while on a call. Sometimes WiFi connection just disconnect and reconnect after a little while of trying to use two apps together while on a call. It also happened back in MiUi 11 android 10, I don't remember if it was on Android 9, but most likely. Am I the only one with this issue? I can surf internet on my pc even watch videos on YouTube without affecting the call quality on the phone, so my internet speed has nothing to do with it. Locked bootloader, MiUi 12, formatted after installing the new OS to make it trouble free, but nothing helped. Can anyone please tell me if I can downgrade this to an earlier version without getting this bricked? I know I have to unlock the bootloader, but I'm confused with that anti-rollback index or whatever it is called. Also Battery usage was 2 days before MiUi 12 with 8-10 hours display on time and now it's just one day. Appreciate your help. This is my first Xiaomi device and will be the last

1. There is a known issue with Wifi interference when Bluetooth is on. Are you using BT when talking on whatsapp? Unfortunately based on my research this is a hardware problem involving the wifi 2.4 Ghz and BT radios which interfere with each other and cannot be fixed via a software update. Downgrading will not help, and is a pain in the a** anyway because of Xiaomi's restrictions. A workaround is to use 5 Ghz (which is a different frequency than BT) or turn BT off when you need good wifi bandwidth.
2. For most people including myself battery usage is about the same with MIUI 12 as with 11 so if you are seeing a significant difference, your best option is to install Acubattery and try to determine which one of your apps is draining the battery. This is almost always the cause. There should not be more than a slight decrease compared to MIUI 11. Should be about 40 hrs including about 10 hrs SOT.

1. Thanks for the info.
2. It's weird, I never had the same battery usage on MiUi 12 even before I format the mobile. Also I've used Accu Battery app more than a week and each day after 80%-90% charge session, it started to drop battery health by 1% for last 3 days I used and I simply deleted the app finding it useless or it's my lack of knowledge ?

With Accubattery were you able to see which service or app was draining? Was the phone going into idle/sleep mode?

[Q] Gingerbread huge battery drain

This seems strange.Yesterday after upgrading to gingerbread ( with the RUU because the OTA didn't work for me) I got a huge battery drain.Over the night I got a loose of 40% and now only 3 hours after unplugged and lost 20%.
I only took a few pictures and a phone call.
Only few apps installed since i got this rom since only yesterday.
Anybody experienced this and is there a fix?
Hello,
I can confirm this.
I have also a high battery drain with ALL Android 2.3.* ROMs.
I use the recommend Radio for each ROM and I've checked the RIL to be sure the Radio is correct. But doesn't matter, current in StandBy is between 30 and 50mA.
Only if I turn off WLAN and Mobile Intenet, then I have normal values between 3 and 5mA.
With FroYo I can leave WLAN and Mobile Internet enabled and I had 3-5mA in StandBy
It could not be an application, because I've tried this with a fresh install without Google account to avoid the installation of external apps.

you'd have to edit the build.prop and change the rescan time from 15 seconds to 30, 60, 90 or 120 (or whatever you perfer the rescan intercal to be at)

Try resetting the battery stats by doing the whole charge, lead out, charge, turn off, charge etc. thing.
Also, whilst not a stock RUU I did find it took a few days for the battery drain to calm down a bit. First instal lowest was around 50mA but adfter a fe days it went down to 4-5mA.

Thank you for your help
What does that value do?
Is that the rescan value of WLAN?
The current stays high even if WLAN is off and mobile internet is on.
Only if both are disabled I get a low StandBy current.

Yes I know this, and I've tried this every time I was flashing a ROM (I mean reset the battery stats)
After a few days? How many days do you mean? 2, 3, 4, 5 days?
@both
But why this problem does not exist on froyo?

Varies but on average I find it takes about 3 days to settle to a point where I see a consistent drain.

Unknown. It's not 100% due to GingerBread as I've only seen a handful of people complain of this issue (relatively speaking). I see more people saying how much better their battery life is after the update than saying it's poorer.
Doesn't help I know but makes me believe that this is maybe a Network / Radio issue in that the new Radio with GB does not play well with the Network. We had this a few times on the HTC Hero.
Ok...i have airplane mode on for about 2 days.in those 2 days i almost didn't use the phone and got only a 7% lose.As soon as i used the camera(recorded around 15 min) it got down to 50% .
I will test it tonight widought airplane mode on and see the resoults. Also wifi seems to a lot of battery in comparance to froyo.

I haven't noticed these problems with CM7. I got 2.5-3 hours per 1% of drain in standby using juice defender.
If you are finding that turning off data etc is fixing the problem use juice defender. Even the free version will help a lot as it will stop your phone using data willynilly and instead turn it to a periodic sync. With the paid version you can have it stop all together during certain periods or increase doing certain periods. Aka stoping at night and extra during busy hours at work.
Should be a good fix, though it is only covering up the underlying problem still.
Can't really recommend the app enough. With it my phone only uses data when I tell it to (like opening facebook app) or periodicaly to sync and check emails etc. I do use the paid version though for the extra features.
totally agree. i have been using juice defender for about a week. its been a big help. just bought the ultimate a few min ago. going to start customizing.
sorry that i dont have any data yet to back up my statement. maybe in a future post.

im using Leedroid 3.0.3 and i dont get any such battery drain..
tbh im getting a better battery life from GB than from froyo..
on standby currentwidget shows me between 4-7ma with wifi on... with a peak once in a while..and i lose abt 1 to 1.5% per hour
with wifi off i get about 3-5ma..
i dont use mobile data much so cant really comment on that..
try calibrating your battery and try changing the scan interval in the build.prop... i normally keep it at 90...
i never used any battery saving apps, so cant comment on their performance either...
go to wifi advanced settings and untick Best Wifi Performance... that also helps a lot!
hope you get your problem sorted
Thank you all for the help
The issue was not with gingerbread...I just left my phone one night with wifi turned on and lost 40%.But still when I was on Froyo wifi wouldn't loose so much battery. Now I loose almost 2-3% every 15 min if surfing the web with wifi.
And about changing the scan interval in the build.prop...How can I do that?Do I need root?
I'm also having battery problems, but mine are a little bit different, if I'm on wifi it uses between 3 to 5% with a peak now and then. if wifi is off and I'm on 3g, it's between 5 and 500 ma and you see only peaks if you check currentwidget. anyone a clue? working on ARHD 5.1.6 now, but problem was there since version 3
I have battery problems also, my battery dries after 1 day of use. For example this morning, I unplugged my phone full from the charger at 10 am. I went into town, listened to about 20 minutes of FM radio. When i stopped the radio, I still had 98% left of the battery. OK so far. After, I talked for about 5 minutes, sent 4 messages and played for about 15 minutes. I arrived home at 2 pm with 75% of battery left. That is 25% in 4 hours.
I was on 3G, but with Mobile network off. BT, WIFI, GPS off. A few days ago, I tried running the Battery Calibration app, but seen no improvements so far. My phone is routed, 2.3.3 and has Android Revolution HD 5.0 RC1 ROM .
I expected the battery not to last for long, but this is ridiculous.
Help me, please!
I don't know if that will help, but I sometimes switch to 2G networks as HSDPA is using quite a lot the battery.
I have a DHD running 2.3.3, and it's definitely the mobile standby bit which is first in the battery use screen (33%). It was true before 2.3xx but now it's a bit more - annoying in other words.
I have to admit, having to switch to 2G networks is a bit of a pain in the *ss, so I'll check if juice defender give me some good results tomorrow and will post a feedback there.
Maybe try AR 5.1.6. + he recommended radio. It works wonders. the battery life is improved a lot...
malik
Juice Defender works very well - with basic settings I still have 35-40% of battery by 7pm.
furstrated with the battery life...
hey guys,
so this is my first post and all i've done up until now was to read... i'm afraid not real solution has come up.
i have:
Leedroid 3.1.2 with the recommended radio and i ran the script for Full Wipe 1.5 and cleared the battery stats, i did a fresh install and then didnt restore from backup - just installed everything from scratch. i hoped it would be ok, but when i woke up to check the current widget log, i saw that in the middle of the night he climbed to 150mA and stayed there draining about a 1% of battery in 3-4 minutes (!!!)
what can i do? 'where is my droid power' shows only HTC Sense at about 3.8%
please please help... thanks!

[Q] LG G3 5.0, very hot, battery barely lasts a day on minimal use

Hi, my g3 has this problem where the battery seems to drain very fast on moderate to minimal use. When it's in use I use it for browsing the Internet and maybe Facebook, nothing too energy burning, yet it burns the battery like I'm using it for a demanding task. The battery usage has nothing unusual (I don't think) just 39% and the rest is split between tasks. What might be causing this? Since the start of typing this thread is gone from 25 percent to 8 percent, and is very hot again. What might be causing this?
LG G3 d855
16 gb
2gb ram
Android 5.0
Also has one other problem where there is 5gb being used in the misc section for 'system' is this normal? Because that's a large portion of the 16gb gone.
Thanks in advance.
hi, did you make a hard reset to your phone after upgrading to 5.0?
I bought the phone with it all installed so I can only presume that they did that themselves, it was definitely factory reset when I bought it, I know that much.

I have to revive this thread because the battery life on this phone just renders it useless. I temporarily downgraded from lollipop to kitkat which improved the battery life hugely, I've now rooted it and installed a custom rom (cloudyg3) and the battery life is once again awful. Can anyone suggest anything? The phone is used on and off throughout the day, but even on standby it burns the battery.
Thanks

Use battery info in setting to find out which app eat more battery. After that remove that app (if you dont need it, of course)

The screen uses the most at 29 percent followed by messenger at 13 percent and Spotify at 10 percent, I use Spotify most the time, messenger is quite important too. Also the battery seems to have a rapid drain directly after its been on charge, that then levels out after a good 30 percent is gone.

This might sound odd, but have you checked your accounts in settings to make sure nothing is syncing indefinitely? I've had several customers with issues related to their Google account (or sometimes other accounts on the phone) constantly attempting to sync without ever completing. For example, under one customer's Google account settings, the sync wheel next to "Sync Contacts" would never stop spinning (or would remain stuck on the screen). His phone was quite warm, and his battery life was awful.
Unchecking the affected box, rebooting the phone, and re-enabling sync AFTER ensuring that the phone wasn't heating up for any other reason appeared to fix the issue. I've seen similar issues with non-Google accounts as well.

It's definitely not a syncing problem, there isn't really much for my phone to sync to be honest, and i rarely get the syncing wheel on the screen.
Today, my battery died in 2 hours from a full charge, all i was using it for was mapmyride (which tracked me using gps) and for some reason facebook messenger used 23% even though I haven't used it. I think i'm just going to downgrade to 4.4.4 i'm sick of these battery problems.
Poor Battery Life in LG G3 after 5.0 update
Hi I am using the same model and facing the same issue. I downgraded it to kitkat and rooted my phone and installed CM12 Rom. Now the battery life is very good..

[Q] Battery drain on stock 4.4.4 / rooted / unlocked / doomkernel

Up to now I'm happy with my Z1C.
But in the last weeks the battery drain went up.
Before that I could get a day and a half to two days of use , I am a moderate user during the day.
Most of the time wifi is off, 4g is off but bluetooth is on, day and night.
Before I had bluetooth turned off when not in the car.
But because I bought a Smartband talk I switched bluetooth to on without turning it off again.
Up to last week the battery was draining faster because of the bluetooth use but it was still good enough for me.
The last weeks / months I downloaded a lot more music on the external card and switched USB use to MSC so I could use it in my car. I listened to music in the car when driving to and from my workplace (1 hour drive single way).
Because it was charging in the morning and in the evening I did not notice any abnormal behavior.
Before I started to use the phone as a mediaplayer in the car I could get 1.5 to 2 days.
When using it as a mediaplayer this did not change, probably because of the charging in the car
Now I switched from workplace and stopped listening to music in the car.
Now my phone lasts for 0.8 up to 1 day max.
When looking at the battery stats it seems to me the mediaserver was eating up a lot.
So I deleted all data from the phone and I did a reset to factory settings. I also removed 80% of the music on the external sd card.
But even then I get a battery drain from 30-35% in about 7 hours time during the night.
I'm running again with only necessary apps installled.
So for the time being no xposed modules, no smartband talk and only switching bluetooth on when using the phone in the car.
But the problem does not seem to be solved.
I have a weak signal at home (1 bar), I had a weak signal at my previous workplace (1 bar) and I have a weak signal at my current workplace (als 1 bar max).
I wonder what is eating the battery so fast?
Is it the weak signal?
Is it because I charged the battery too much (every morning and evening in the car)?
Is my battery dying?
Is it related to an app (multiple apps)?
I have this phone since april 2014.
I am on 14.4.A.0.108 / unlocked / rooted with the doomkernel v22.
So can anybody tell me what monitoring app to use and how to interprete the results from such an app?
I'm in stamina mode.
Estimated lifespan battery is at 2 days when an actual battery percentage of 42%.
I already have betterbatterystats but I do not know if this is the best app for monitoring.
Is there something else I have to look into?
Today I was trying to get my settings in the state I need them to be and when looking at power management / battery usage I can see the screen is the biggest battery user but that seems normal in the current situation.
What about deep sleep, how to monitor this?
How to identify apps being the biggest battery consumers?
What about the apps in manage notifications, there's a lot of them, will it help disabling some / a lot of them?
I really like to get back to charging the phone only once every 2 days.
Any help would really be appreciated.

Better Battery Stats is you friend, it will help you locate what it depleting your battery and keeping your phone awake, as well as listing the deepsleep times .
If you have a rooted phone download Disableservice from the playstore. Reading your post you use a fitness tracker so disabling all of these might not work, but it's worth a go.
Once it's installed, open the system tab, open Google Play Services, then untick (disable) the following:
ConfigFetchService
FitnessSyncAdapterService
GoogleLocationManagerService
GoogleLocationService
NetworkLocationService
ProximitySettingInjectorService
UserPresenceService
WearableControlService
WearableService
WearableSyncService
then reboot your phone.
Disabling these from running should have no impact on your phone, it doesn't for me, and will give you 10-15% more battery life.
Turning of sync on your Gmail also saves a lot of battery, especially if you live in a poor reception area, as it polls the Gmail server every few minutes. Likewise sync on your normal emails. It means you have to check yourself to see if you have any mail, but will put a few extra hours on your battery.
The other thing that extended my battery life was deleting the cached data. Settings\Storage and hold down on Cached data until you get a popup asking you to delete it. I know it sounds bizarre, but it really worked.
Try putting a stock kernel back in for a few days and see if that makes a difference.

[Q] Why Battery Draining Fast?

I have owned this phone for about 3 days, but I have some battery issues.
I attached 3 pictures, and on the first picture, you can see there appears to be no wakelocks, but on the 2nd picture, the Android OS used the vast majority of my battery life, and the 3rd picture, Android System has a lot of "Wake Up Device" (i don't know what the number means is it minutes?)..
I have uninstalled/disabled most of the apps I don't need, and have the brightness set to low, and on airplane mode with all sync off, and zenmotion turned off, and this still happens. I lost about 11% battery overnight with this problem. It seems like when I am using the device, the battery drops a percent every minute even when I am just scrolling through the Settings.
I only used about 1 hour screentime on this phone and the rest on idle.
I already installed both system updates.
Does anyone know why this happens? I know there is a memory leak problem, but I saw on another thread other people don't have that bad of a drain anymore...

I've got here two brand new models, which differ only for touch and battery version (Z2C3 01040005 1525 and ... 1526)
The 1526 doesn't show any drain. The 1525 does, as of its very first boot. I tried keeping same settings of course.
I'd like to point out that when connected and charging it shows big steps like going from 63 to 72% and it also reaches 100% in less than 60 mins.
When disconnected the discharge path exhibits about 1:15min of operation.
May I suspect the battery is defective?
PS: after a factory reset from recovery seems have fixed the problem for now at least...

Battery Drain Advice

Hi All
Disclaimer: I'm new to the forum so apologies if this is in the wrong discussion area etc!
I got my Galaxy S9 on Friday 9th, prior to that I had an LG G5 which is now gone. In the last few months of using my LG G5 the battery life was questionable - the phone would get hot (sometimes without even using it a lot) and the battery would drain by 30% an hour. I noticed, but didn't test fully, that Google Play Music seemed to really cane the battery and phone - i.e. was getting hot and draining quickly. As an example, I'd leave home at 7am taking it off charge at the last minute (100%) and get to my office at 9am and it'll be at 50% and very warm. Prior to that (can't exactly pinpoint when the drain started to really kick in) it would only drop to 85% - much more acceptable.
The G5 has a replaceable battery - 2800 if I recall . So I threw down £50 on an official LG site for a new slab of Lithium - slight improvement, but still terrible and warm. 55% instead of 50%.
"Right - time for a new phone" as I assumed that 2 years of app updates meant the CPU was lagging. Bagged a Galaxy S9 - today was my first commute into the office. Started on 100%, arrived at 55% with a 3000 battery! And it got super warm like the G5.
Most of that time I used Google Play Music, which according to AccuBattery the discharge speed was "33% per hour". Second was Google Chrome at 30% per hour (though I didn't use it much at all on the journey).
My question is - what logs can I check, or apps I can use, or something to find out what's going on? I need to test a few things of course to pinpoint the issue. If it helps - I restored from my G5 when I setup my S9.
seems like you might have have some options enabled in Google Play Music / chrome - that is keeping the phone awake
generally when you switch phones they apps and their settings get transferred automatically now - worth maybe uninstalling them for a day and see if you're still experiencing this issue
other than that it could be that your commute involves travelling thru areas of no signal where the phone keeps trying to find a signal - that can drain battery a lot

Thanks - I'll try that next time. Might also try a factory reset but not restore from the LG G5 backup to see what happens then.
how bright is your display? do you leave it on all your commute?
Got your wifi enabled which hunts for a signal even though you aren't using wifi? try turning it off. Same with location setting.
And how strong a signal do you have on your commute. Streaming lots of data on a really weak signal will kill battery, too.
Go into settings and see whats draining your battery.
Battery Drain Issue of S9 - Resolved
:laugh:Hi All,
I could resolve the Battery drain issue but not touching any other setting of the new phone by just disabling the backend data usage of all application expect few like Edge screen, Gmail, Flipboard etc... Now the android system power usage is back to 4-5%. Previously it was 21%-25%. So issue resolved. Need to find out the way to inform this to Samsung so they can identify which app is consuming full battery power.

Hi, i'm facing ridiculous drains too and factory resetting hasn't seemed to help. I'm trying your resolution, but I don't entirely understand you. Could you kindly guide step by step? also, if you mean going to optimise battery usage, when i go there and select the 'apps not optimized' all the apps there are greyed out therefore not allowing me to select them.
