Hey guys, is it safe to perform a factory reset if I'm rooted with custom kernel? Recovery is still stock.

Just trying to be safe?? Do you have any valuable input? Or just a troll?

Doesn't sound like he's really trolling but it appears that it should be fine. But of course if your wiping data, what do you have to lose? Worst case scenario you flash factory images.

If you are rooting your phone, and installing custom kernels, i sure hope you already know the answer to your "question"..If you dont, you might want to think twice before flashing stuff on your 1000 dollar phone.

I've been on these forums for a long time and I know more than well what I'm doing. This device has proven to be quite a bit different then previous devices. It was a simple question and if you knew the answer than you could have simply wrote "yes, everything should be fine." Instead, you decide to sarcastically say "why wouldn't it be?" The Q&A forum is here for a reason.
But on another note @Rydah805, thanks for your reply, it is much appreciated! ?

Its your choice. I'd say go ahead and root it. But read about what your doing. Nobody can tell if you should or not. there's not a definite reason not to... that I know of.

Hi,
Maybe some ideas...:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1676821&highlight and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1600006&highlight or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633438&highlight
Depends on your reason. I have learned tons about my phone by rooting and then breaking it.....
DO IT. Flashing roms is an addiction though. Just a warning.

I'd say go for it, if you're at least moderately technically inclined.
At the very least unlock the bootloader (this will wipe your phone so backup any photos etc!). Rooting can be done later if you do that first.
If you have to ask, no you probably shouldn't.
No question, definitely root without a doubt.

This.
If you don't root your phone, it's not yours. You're not responsible for it if it gets messed up, but you are limited in what you can do with it. You're a licensee, not the owner.
I am of the opinion that I should own what's mine.

I just recently rooted my phone and am relatively new to flashing ROMs but I'm totally addicted. I would agree that you should do as much research and read thoroughly through the forums. Great experience for me so far.

Same. You really do learn about your device and the way Android works. I've had some good and bad experiences with flashing, but I've learned a lot. It's fun and you can apply so many mods to make your device unique to yourself.

I'll post this here as well, since it's relevant;
"If I learned one thing on XDA, it's this. Most people like to post in the wrong sections, because they know that they will get a faster answer and that more people will see it. They do it, despite the fact that they shouldn't. So, in theory, we should just ignore those that do it, because lets be honest...they know better and so should we. Now, I've also seen many members that know better, reply to these people and give them their answers, but they fail to see that, they are only feeding these people, to keep on doing it."

Is this possible yet? I've seen a few tutorials (on other websites) talking about flashing their AT&T Note II back to stock with the following file ..."KIES_HOME_I317UCALJ2_I317ATTALJ2_215287_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5" using Odin.
Although I haven't seen anyone say whether it was successful or not. Truth be told, if I don't read it for myself on XDA I'm kind of hesitant on doing it. I don't need the flash counter reset (yet), but I would just like to know that I could Odin back to stock firmware / recovery if and when anything goes wrong.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm tone deaf, so not sure I'm gonna hear tones of threads. What I do hear is the sarcasm in your post. It's not needed. I didn't ask anyone to do it for me, I asked if anyone has confirmed a working method. You being a jerk aside, I still hope your life is well and brings you great things.

And I dont think twanskys was being a jerk. It just gets old seeing the same question over and over. A quick search in the general thread would have answered you question. Cheers mate:beer:

I can understand that. I get a lot of the same questions day in and day out in my line of work. I still wouldn't be a jerk to anyone, much less a complete stranger. The whole "no one is going to hold your hand" was a bit over board.
Anyways. Thanks for the response cdshepherd. Much appreciated. I'll do some more searches when I get home and see what I come across.
Take care all.

I doubt it. If you want roms, you should look at the HTC one, gs4 or note 2. This phone isn't popular enough probably because it launched so close to the other big ones and is only available on att.

I dunno. @thecubed doesn't own this phone and @designgears mentioned that he bought it because of the locked bootloader, implying be didn't want to flash stuff. Then again, he essentially let cubed brick his phone so apparently his addiction still had him in a strangle hold.
It will happen, but how long and when it does how many roms will we see.
I'm mainly looking for the ability to restore my phone if I bootloop which I already have.

Lets hope for the best as this phone has a great potential. I love it and feels its a solid upgrade to the Note II as i was not happy with the S4. Pls keep us posted
hi all, first off, anyone know why the Illusion ROM thread was closed?
second, i love this ROM. i really do. it's the first and only ROM other than stock TW that i've kept on my Galaxy S III for a month or more. for some reason, i just can't stand the other AOSP/AOKP/PA ROMs. not that they're bad or anything, but this ROM has something in it that just makes me love it. it grows on me.
anyways, my question is, the ROM runs great, no issues at all but...vibration.
i already turned off all the vibrations in stuff like Facebook/Messenger/Instagram etc etc, but my phone still vibrates anyways? is there another thing i forgot to turn off, or is there no fix?
Thanks!

hello..? anyone?
Closed because the dev is no longer supporting it. Once that happens 90% of posts become eta, and why no updates, type questions. That's my best guess anyway. He's working on other roms now anyway.
As for vibration, no idea. Might help if you tell us when it's vibrating. When it rings? Sms? Random? Keyboard?
Otherwise all anyone can probably tell you is turn.it off in the roms settings menu. Personally, I don't use cm type roms, so I probably wouldn't be much help here, but it may be why no one's answered.
