Ok first off I've researched and studied this to hell and posting is my last resort. I'm rooted, use vpn shields, have tried several top rated tethering apps from the play store and a proxy. None work, once I try to load a website on my PC the t mobile web page pops up about tethering and such, I am unable to tether. Anyone with suggestions?

That didn't work. As in the app errors out so I didn't get a chance to test it and it's no longer in the play store.

in order to have Tethering work, you MUST Flash the Kernel with a "Tweaked" version that allows Wifi Tether.
the file I got downloaded, I forgot where from is named, SetUIDRestrictRemovedKernel.zip
If you do a google search using the filename I provided above, It should be the second choice. ( I just did the search)
it'll download when you select to....

Aloha and good luck!

if you're using the included Tethering app it works right out of the box! It's the "Trev_E_Mod" tethering and others that are not possible to enable without the Kernel patch......
Ya it seems all the custom roms I tried I could not for the life of me get wifi tethering to work. I had to go back to stock TW for M919 and now it works perfectly. I wish I heard about the tweaked kernel before. Will try the tweaked kernel when I get an itch to flash something new hopefully 4.4 real soon!

Has anyone had any issues with wifi tether after the 4.3 ota.
I am having one hell of a time getting it to work.
I tried everything i can think of and it refuses to work.
Get errors about not finding the binaries, gets phone in unknown state ( the only app that does it )... yes i am rooted and confirmed that i can mod system files.

Anyone else having issues with the WifiTether_TrevE_Mod i normally use the 3.3 pre 2
thanks
I'm seeing the exact same thing. Also seeing messages like "Couldn't install file-data/data/com/googlecode.android.wifi.tether/bin..." and when trying to view the log file it also doesn't exist. Have tried several configurations and several tethering apps and can't get anything to work.
Gain root access, delete or rename /data/misc/wifi directory.
Reboot your phone.

This didn't work for me.
Hopefully it works for OP. I'll just have to go back to FoxFi for the time being.

What exactly is happening when you start tethering ?
Are you getting "error" or you can start tethering but no data is transfered from your device ?
My post solves the "error" problem as described here
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=62516
Other posts here indicate that in some cases tethering won't work if you don't have a plan for it.
Anyhow there is a fix for this issue too. search the forum.

Depending on what I try I either get a screen that is forever asking me to "Please wait while starting..." or I get the error like wpsantennas where it tells me "Couldn't install file-data/data/com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether/bin/tether!"
It will tell me my phone is in an "unknown state" if I try to stop and restart the tethering process.

Same problem here. Tethering worked fine before update, after updating to 4.3 experiencing same problems listed above.
From what I've read, a few of the custom roms, including some sense roms, seem to have the stock mobile hotspot working. Anyone know what was changed in those to get it working?

Oh, but I am rooted, just running stock (except for root, of course). Your NuSenseOne rom has a working modified wifi tether. Can it be transplanted to stock 4.3?
Thanks.

Is there a fix for stock mobile hotspot to get working?
Here are some screenshots

Those pictures perfectly explain exactly what I'm seeing. As you've noted, none of the suggested solutions have worked. Are you using the stock kernel?

100% stock rooted, debloated.
Im trying to get the native tether with security check bypassed.. i found the code but of course when i debloated i dont have the files, so i got to wait 3 hours to dl the rom with the file ..ugh useing th previous rom files i can get it to launch and run, and show up but going into settings crashes settings
I'm stock rooted except running ObOne kernel. Didn't think the kernel was the problem but didn't run tether on 4.3 before flashing the new kernel. When I ran into the tether problems I wasn't debloated but since then I've dumped some stuff.
Based on the error messages it seems as if the app can't write to the directory but have no clue why. Tried OpenGarden and it had the same errors.

I decided to check out the sprint forums for the one, and the exact same thing happened to them when they got 4.3 . It seems it was hit or miss with the tether apps. and it seemed that a reasonable fix was to use native tether with security bypassed. The person who modded the one tether app that we are having problems with seems to be MIA
Workaround
All,
I believe i found a viable workaround

Does anyone knows if tethering works on Verizon HTC one after root with Firewater ? I want to make sure before I start messing around with my phone
You need to flash a Rom that allows the native tethering to work. Viper one , santods Roms and ecliptic (sp?) are just some of the more popular sense Roms. Really reading any Rom op will tell you if native tethering works or not. I am running viper one but know with 5.0 some people are having tethering issues bit a fix is on its way. 4.3 works flawlessly

I'm on stock now and my tether works fine but my phone recently downloaded Android update that I didn't installed yet because I read that Firefox won't work with it. Now I wanted to root my phone long time ago to get rid off those
"Garbage" Verizon apps but I don't want to mess around with it till I know my tether will work. Thanks for the Info guys.
Tether works fine on the newest ota with the stock hot spot app, as long as your rooted and can make a small file edit. Firefox also works just fine.
I had a galaxy s3 a while ago also rooted where i had used pdanet+ to create a hotspot without paying an arm and a leg to my carrier for the option. It had worked. Now that i have the g4 i want to do the same. when i try to use any app that says root wifi hotspot or whatever, they dont actually ask for root access nor do they work as intended. I was wondering if there was any other apps out there (for free this is the point) that i could use... Or if theres a method im neglecting to use to get this working.

Treve Mod WiFi tether. It isn't on the play store. You'll need to download the apk online.

Which did you use? I found one from 2013 on google code, but it's not working correctly and throws a lot of errors.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3Di9d7w1so this works for me, no root needed. even though it says it needs to be.

It depends on what device ure using. Fool around with the settings, there's lots of options.

I have a unrooted H815 on Cricket and I can confirm that the wifi hotspot on the phone works, accessible via the toggle switch in Settings. No use for it, but good to know it's there.

This worked for me as well. The LTE connection will reset/refresh, and it instantly started working. I am running rooted stock 5.1 (ZV5) on Sprint.
Just updated to Nougat on my Note5 and it appears that SmartView / Screen Mirroring / Miracast is broken for me. It attempts connecting (always to the last device I tried connecting to - it never lets me choose which device), and then immediately disconnects. There's a error message that shows up quickly and disappears quickly that seems to say something about Wifi Direct and Smartview not working at the same time, but there's no option to disable Wifi Direct.
Does anyone have this feature working? Is there any option that I'm missing somewhere that can fix this?
Did you try clearing cashe and trying again?

I did, yes.
Did you update via Nobarb's Ota file? If yes then it should be fine as I'm running the same and also AT&T released the same version of the OTA (4EQC6) just odin back the latest version and then sideload upto nougat and try again. It's really rare for smart view to break unless there is some issue with your WiFi chip (Maybe a hardware issue?)?

Nope, I updated via the official AT&T OTA update. Like I mentioned, there's an error message that pops up about Wifi Direct and SmartView not being able to be on at the same time, so to me it seems more like a misconfiguration from the update than a hardware issue, but who knows. Maybe I'll have to do a hard reset at some point when I have the time.
I got the same pop up but my miracast works just fine with my roku t.v.
