Question for vzw pixel or pixel xl owners. - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

My original device said it was a 128gb pixel xl black and my replacement shows as non vzw device. I'm wondering if anyone else has the same thing shown on my verizon? Also idk what's up with my upgrade date. Lol I just upgraded.

Mine show up as PIXEL NON-VERIZON. It's a Google Store purchase.

Is it possible the "refurbished" pixel xl I received is a Google version? Also how can I tell a difference?

Fastboot oem getcid. If a Verizon pixel xl it'll give you vzw_001
Or
cat /sys/firmware/devicetree/base/chosen/radio/htc_smem_cid

Not necessarily indicative of a Verizon pixel xl.. This is a Verizon

True. Mine shows the same. I'm on their network, but my device is from the play store.

Probably a VZW device. The way to be certain would be to apply @blueyes method, if that's something you're able to do. It's beyond my current comfort zone.

The "cat" command I posted requires root, fastboot command won't obviously. Without root you can use any terminal emulator and simply run getprop. Look for "ro.boot.cid"

{Request} Disable SRGB setting

Hello,
Just a request, because I'm sure Google will disable it sooner or later anyway. Is there any developer out there or anyone for that matter that would know a way to enable access to the SRGB screen setting or have an ADB command to enter that would disable it? Please let me know if it's possible and as always thank you in advance

The only option for color changing is this:
I'm pretty sure sRGB is a secure setting, so it can't be changed via adb or any non-root method.

On the Pixel 2 XL? Sure isn't the case on my stock Pixel XL (I stopped rooting once I got the Nexus 6P). The mode to toggle sRGB is right there in the developer settings under "Running Services" on the XL but completely missing in the 2 XL.
Considering how much people are whining about it, they'll obviously release some sort of update to allow people to disable it.
what the hell is wrong with you people
nothing is wrong with the display
i went in a verizon store today and checked out the XL and I dont see why theres such a fake outrage

It's not that something is really "wrong" with the display. It's that Google for whatever unknown reason decided to tune a high end POLED display to sRGB mode which tends to wash out colors.
Coming from a Note 8, the display is noticeably less sharp. Colors are off from a more saturated Samsung panel. Yellows look dark and angled viewing has blue tints.
It's not bad, it's just different, and a lot of people are noticing it. Many from Android media outlets. Apparently Google has acknowledged the display issues and is going to modify it.

Has anyone with the phone tried looking in some of the activities options which typically have many setting hidden but available to launch from? That's the first place I'm going to check when I have the phone. Either use a launcher with activity ability or install an app:

Installed the app and ran it, it only shows a list for itself and Nova. Long press on itself create shortcut doesn't do anything. Settings, home app doesn't show activity launcher. I'm going to take a wild guess and say it's not compatible with Oreo as the last update was 2015.

Yeah you have to switch to all activities from the top pulldown
On 2nd thought, mine crashed on my N6p on Oreo so it may not be compatible. Try installing Nova Launcher. It comes with activity launcher. I believe you just press and hold somewhere on screen and choose activities.

Tap activity at the top and scroll to settings. Open it up and start searching. You can launch the activity by hitting the play button. Some of them may crash but some lead to hidden menus that are not otherwise accessible through normal settings. Like Bandmode (be carefull) or phone info.

Just received my V35 Project Fi edition

I just received my Project Fi V30. It looks like the same model as the unlocked version but I've not confirmed that with anyone since I don't think the unlocked versions outside of Project Fi have shipped yet.
Noticeable things that were easy to see right away.
1. No LG email app
2. No LG dialer, contacts, etc (google dialer, apps)
3. The LG apps I recognize are Smartworld, QuickMemo, Quick Help, Switch, Health, Smartclean
4. Only thing from project Fi is the project Fi app.
5. Always on display is a little different. The screen I use with big numbers and 2 tone colors is rearranged and the font is different
6. option for DTS X 3d Surround (along with Quad DAC as a separate option)
7. Added "wallpaper and themes" in Display options
8. renamed "Smart Settings" to "Context Awareness" in General Settings
So, pretty clean as far as bloatware goes.
Software info
Android 8.0.0
June 1 patch
build OPR1.170623.032
Software Version
V350ULM10c
There were no updates available yet in LG Bridge.
It seems like the UI is a little different than on my old tmobile v30. It is much snappier and less laggy as well. I'll have more info on battery and such once I get to use it a few days.
One thing is blatantly obvious. This is NOT a "google edition" phone like of past. It is all LG. Updates will come directly from LG and it will not be getting updates quickly...ie android 8.0.0 right now. I was hoping...maybe...but...nope.
Had to add a FINALLY!! you can adjust brightness on auto. So you can increase the brightness in a certain lighting situation while leaving it on auto. This was such a pain on my v30 because it was always too dim at night so I would have to take it off of auto mode. Thankfully it has been fixed for v35.
Here is a link for some photos from the v35 vs the v30. The plant images with Mickey mouse have AI enabled. The ones with Mickey with his hands up have AI enabled. (Open info in photos to see which camera is being used. That way you can try see which ones are better without bias) In the dark shot I could not get the V30 to enable super bright mode with AI on no matter what I tried so the picture is really dark. But it gives you an idea of how dark the room really was.

Not that I'm aware of. It is compatible with Sprint since Fi uses Sprint towers. I know they don't use GSM networks. So maybe it would work on verizon. Not sure. What about the unlocked version on Amazon/BHPhoto? Does it list Verizon or just GSM?

anyway to dump the V35 system in case someone bricks their phone?
I have my new LG v35 with Project Fi. Is there anything I can help with to get devs started on creating a way for us to remove all the LG cruft and switch to stock android? I purchased the phone from Project Fi specifically because I thought it would be stock android so currently a lot disappointed. What's a KDZ and can I help get one? Someone mentioned using the LG Mobile Switch application to do something... I'm no dev but point me in the right direction and I'll see if I can accomplish anything.

The PFi version should work with VZW as it's an unlocked phone. It supports GSM/CDMA/LTE so there should be no issue.

Yes, I can confirm that the Project Fi version of the V35 works on Verizon. I took the sim out of my S8+ and it worked in the V35 without issue and signal spy confirmed connection to VZW.
Is anyone else having trouble with WiFi? My phone will not connect to the 2.4ghz band at all. It's fine if I'm close to the router, but if I go to the next room I sometimes get disconnected because it won't switch to the 2.4ghz band. My Note 8 switches fine and always has a strong connection with both bands. So it's not a problem with my router. Does anyone know of a way to force the V35 to only use the 2.4ghz band?
Edit...Now it's working. I didn't do anything to fix it. I did get an update from at&t last night, maybe that had something to do with the wifi.

So I have the V35 from AT&T but unlocked it to use for TMobile. Is there an unlocked stock firmware I can download and use so I can get back some functionality that AT&T's crapware is depriving me?

nope. literally can't do anything with them yet but be stuck with what's on 'em.
After just one month of launching, LG starts to offer $300 off from Amazon or $300 Project Fi credit from Google, while Apple has become the first trillion dollar company.

Thinq does not have advanced messaging option

I bought 2 US thinqs from t-mobile the other day. Both have the same base version. Security version. I've compared every setting I can think of. But one of the phones does not show Advanced messaging options in settings. No alias settings. My. Phone shows a click able menu called "advanced messaging" but the other phone does not. Anybody know anything about this?

I'm trying to figure out why I can't get delivered and read reports when my friend and I text each other. We don't have this problem with anybody else. Just each other. This seems to be the only setting that could be causing the issue. Delivery and read reports are working with mms between the two phones but not sms. Alias seems to just be another version of your personal profile on the phone. Not too concerned about that function but it seems to be connected to since she doesn't have that setting either
Hmmm, just got my silver T-Mobile G7 ThinQ Friday and I don't have advanced messaging on it either.

[Q] Camera symbol in Google Messages

I have a pixel 2 for work and a pixel 2XL for personal use. They are both using the same version of Google's Messages. However, my pixel 2 has the new camera icon next to the + symbol where you would write your text. My pixel 2xl still only has the + symbol next to where you text. Anyone know if it is a setting I need to change or if one phone got a update pushed on Google's side? Picture shows what I am talking about circled in red.

I was thinking I was the only one that still does not have it. Crazy!
I connected to pixel support through settings and the technician had me screen share and went through a lot of things like checking in safe mode, Android build version, app settings and other things. He was not sure why my messages app is not updated properly. He ended up having me send a feedback report and said they would be looking into it.
Well time will tell .
I had it on my stock pixel 2 XL then I lost it when I flashed a rom. When I flashed back a month later to stock I got it back. I tried everything I could think of while I was running a custom rom to get it back with no luck.

I have the camera icon now after a clean flash on stock. Every other month (depending on features, patches, etc.) I make it a priority to do a complete wipe of the device. It's tedious and some may see it as redundant, but in my experience since the days of the G1, it keeps everything running smooth.

Question Android Messages app, weird menu option

I just got an update through the playstore of the latest version of Messages and now under Advanced settings, there is a blank menu option with a toggle that is on. It can be turned off but not sure what this is. I am not enrolled in beta for Messages. Anyone else see this? Could it be Google prepping for the iPhone reactions toggle?
Interesting. Could be, I'll ask my sister to text me directly at my real cell number (since I usually have her send to my Google Voice #). Tested it just now with my sister texting me; it's not the iPhone reactions fix for me yet. My Advanced page looks a little different from yours but could be related to other settings I have chosen. I'm on AT&T with a factory unlocked P6P. My Messages version # is 20220118_00_RC01.phone_dynamic. I'm on the February firmware.
Realized I forgot to include the version I'm on. Here's another screenshot
In my German app, this toggle is used for enabling the reception of service broadcast messages.

I too have it and I'm in Canada. Disabling black theme didn't show either what is this.

You'd think that would be the logical naming convention IF I were enrolled in beta. However, since I'm not and on the stable channel, you'd think "release candidates" wouldn't be what Google is pushing lol. Either their naming convention sucks or they literally have 2 beta channels. One where you know you're in beta and the other is the secret one to get wider testing via billions of unknowing users

Omg, why is this happening I'm noticing it now on my phone and it is the Worst!
I'm on same version as OP and I neither have a blank space nor "show iPhone reactions as emojis"...
Interesting...
