Nothing is happening. Stock roms have a system write protection even if you are rooted. You need a custom kernel that disable HTC write protection. You can still add files to system even if you are stock, but only if you do it via recovery.

I think you are mixed up. That is to fix micro sd writing. He is trying to freeze or delete apps. You need kernal on stock Rom or jus flash a Rom.

Sorry. Posted to wrong topic
I didn't have to do anything for RW access to system just s-off and root, but there is a module you can install to enable RW somewhere on this forum.

Any ideas how to do this, where to get such a kernel? Or (if so, how?) can this be done from recovery?

Just look in the Development section, or even faster use the Index thread sticky near the top of the General section.
Another option, just flash a custom ROM. All of them should have system write protection disabled.
I have rooted, and I have xposed installed.
What is the upgrade procedure? Do I need to go so far as to remove root? Any advice appreciated.
Thanks!

Got this just now...but don't wanna lose root. The notification is annoying as hell. I would flash and update if it won't bork everything but I'd settle for just getting rid of the notification. Anybody know how to get rid of it??

When I long press, I see "App Info" and when I press it, it shows Google Play Services.
When it is disabled, does the update go away, or is it still on my G3 waiting to be installed?
Anyone know how this happened? I'm rooted, with custom everything, and I have OTA updates disabled!
I'm doing a TWERP backup anyway.
Anyone that has installed the update - did you get root back?

If you load this from external sd-card will delete all your data. Maybe someone will make this to flash with recovery with out removing all your data.

Yes, but I live in an area where all carriers have poor signal. I took that screen shot at home where it is always that low. There are also times I get the "edge" network! When I go into town though I have full bars and "LTE" anywhere in town even in buildings.

Andro needs a PC connected upon every reboot. You can apply at will, just upon reboot you will need PC connection.
Also that's the same one I use that works fine. It's not troublesome. It works great.

Yes and no.
Yes because it became very annoying, and was one of the reasons I rooted. Also no because that's how it's designed to work. So we take what we can get.

There is a magiak module in the substratum section that basically converts the windows bat file into a shell script, so you don't need to connect to your PC everytime, just a terminal on your phone will do. But you need root to run the shell script tho, so only useful if you're rooted and want to keep using Andromeda.

Supposedly the Andromeda method of compiling overlays better/recommended by the devs, idk the specifics. I just use it since I already bought Andromeda and don't want it to go to waste lol
Edit: thread in question: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/substratum/magisk-andromeda-enabler-enable-t3728325/page6
It's even endorsed by the substratum dev, so I guess it's not completely useless lol

You don't have too. Uninstall Andromeda and substratum, then reboot. Then install substratum again, grant it root, and theme away ?

There isn't any advantage if you ask me. It's great getting rid of the umbilical cord known as Andromeda! Although, it is great for those who can't, or don't want to root ?
It’s nice being rooted and able to reboot phone without having to wait to get home ...but agree great for non root
