I am noticing that inactive apps get closed or disappear from the app switcher. I think some also get closed when I restart as well.
Marshmallow on my N6 didn't close apps like that. Am I missing something on nougat?
it s feature on Android N. it remove apps from recent app list that been in idle mode for long time

hey guys,
I think the recent button dose not work
anyway, on sense there is the task manger it would kill all the apps you want, however, I opened an MSN app pressed recent app (the one on the bottom right) swiped the MSN app up so it should be stopped but its still running.
any ideas about this?
mine works fine
Same here. Swiping up doesn't kill/force close an app.
Its not a task manager its recent apps.

The Recent App list is not a task killer. It's just there to quickly switch between apps that your often use. Swiping up on a particular app just tidies up your list.
Although you dont need it as the One X has plenty of memory and it screws us the OS a task killer can be downloaded from the Market.
,
thanks guys, it would be better if it acts like a task killer

Are you sure? When I swipe apps from my list I get a message in LogCat first from the ActivityManager saying that it is killing the process and then from the ProcessManager saying the process has been killed. I would say it definitely closes apps.
Have you been looking how to close apps running in background without having to go deep in settings to close Pandora or iheart Radio and other apps or going all the way to settings and force closing individual apps?
Suggestions: Use another launcher, place a shortcut to close all running apps.
Post here what you find works best for you.

If you find an app that you can create a shortcut to for purposes you stated, please post back here.
Otherwise, someone suggested a pretty good app called "fast reboot" it's in playstore. I've been using it a couple of days and it's helped with some performance issues.
Basically you just click and it simulates a reboot, stopping and restarting processes. Not sure if that's related to what you want but thought I'd share.
Just back out of the app and it will close. Hit the back button on the remote til the app closes or hit menu and see if there is an exit button for the app. If you still need an app try Fancy Switcher, it works well on the Fire TV
close fire stick apps.

Unfortunately, "backing out of an app" does not actually close an app on the Fire Stick, Fire Stick 4k or Fire TV Cube. The apps actually continue to run in the background, using up both memory and processing power.
Only a "Force Close" will actually close an app.
An app like "Background Apps & Process List" will reveal all of the apps that continue running in the background even after you've backed out of them using the remote. You can then manually go into Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications, click on the individual applications you want to actually close, and perform a "force stop" on each one you'd like to close.
Background Apps & Process List had been able to allow you to force close apps directly from it's interface, but it lost the ability to do this with one of the Fire OS updates recently. The developer said he's working on getting it fixed and reuploaded when I contacted him a few days ago.
In the meantime, both Task Killer or Task Manager can help automate and speed up the process of shutting down unwanted apps that continue to run in the background, showing you the running background apps in a list when they open, providing you with a checkbox for the ones you'd like to close, and a "Kill Selected Tasks" button. These both work fine on my Fire Stick 4k, though I'm still searching for an app that will perform this same function for the Fire Cube (2nd Gen).

Killing apps is not a good idea. If you mean you want a normal Android Task Switcher that lets you close apps (Recents), then you can, for instance, use Nova Launcher and set the home button to open the Recents. You can also install the app Swipe for convenient app switching and managing. Swiping will switch apps, but a double tap on the side of the screen can also act to open Recents.
If you are looking for a way to better manage apps running in the background, then start using Greenify. It is less potent without root, but still a great and healthy way to stop apps from continually running in the background and thus improve your performance and possible memory issues. Android is built to take advantage of memory though, so don't be alarmed by low numbers of available free RAM.
Yes, Greenify is the way. You can even hibernate automatically without root by using a replacement lock screen with its own security. That way you don't put a pin/password on the system lock screen, allowing Greenify to auto hibernate without leaving the phone vulnerable.
If you double click the home button it opens the recent/kill app menu. Click on an app to go it or swipe it upwards to close it.

Curious if anyone else is experiencing issues with apps after the android 10 update
Specifically 3rd party launchers, and tasker.
launchers cannot display the recent apps screen properly is the main issue I found.
tasker cannot run certain variables because it isnt getting the information it needs. for example, %WIN variable.
anyone else experiencing this? Is this LG's version of android 10, or an android 10 issue in general?
I get the recent thing from nova launcher occasionally. After a restart it is really bad. But it eventually works again and all behaviors return to pre-10.
LG did the most asinine thing with their Android 10 build... they removed the recent apps code from the system and baked it into their stock Home launcher. If you use any launcher other than Home, when you try to open the recent apps, it's actually launching Home and displaying the recent apps that way. The only workaround I've found is to remove Home from power savings so that it's always in memory. Even that isn't perfect, but it's better than nothing.

The home app is responsible for recents and gestures always. I think other companies do exactly the same thing. There's usually a recents provider, which is the stock home app

If that were true, you would not be able to disable the stock launcher, which I have done on many phones with no issue.
Is there a way to have this support more than 3 apps? It's ridiculous there's a limit with the amount of ram on this phone
That's a GREAT question, and I'd love to know the answer too. I haven't found one yet though. RAM isn't an issue on this phone. Maybe they worry too many locked in memory will affect battery life too much?
Where did you learn this is the limit? I've gone days without opening an app before and when I go back to it it's right where I left off.
You could perhaps go to the battery saving menu and disable the battery saving for any apps you want to remain running. This may cause some serious background battery usage though, but It may be worth trying out. Also, try running the high performance mode. I've run that mode a lot and never noticed it causing much battery drain over the standard optimised mode.
Coming from Oneplus and using it for a long time I can tell you, the Note 10+ is probably one of the best multitasking phones I've used (including Note 9). Chrome on this hardly ever closes in the background and find it always running and available with all the tabs open. Oneplus phones can hardly keep anything in memory / background loaded for more than 5 mins but but Oneplus phones feel sooooo much more responsive and snappy comparatively otherwise.
The default for background apps is set to, "standard." Which allows more than 3 background apps.
Go into Device Care - > Battery - > App power management
Some apps may have been automatically added to sleep or deep sleep.
You can add or remove apps as needed.

After you add three to "Keep open for quick launching" the option becomes greyed out.
You're right, it's generally not an issue where apps get closed down in the background anyway, but I normally have 4 or 5 that I always wanted 'pinned' to my recents list. Not a big deal, I just found the limit strange, given the phone's capabiities and hardware.

How do you get " keep open for quick launching “ , I only get lock app instead , I'm running one ui 2.1 june security patch ” picture attached ”
Anyway you can bypass this using good lock app from galaxy store and use the module multistar and toggle on ”long live apps”

I'm also on One UI 2.1, June security patch. Screenshot of my menu option is attached. Maybe it's different between countries/regions/models? Mine is the Canadian N975W.
Edit: attachments aren't working, here's a link to the screenshot: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AqdgaMVMg2EMirgLXMqey1V1d0Gsdg?e=RGdVeX
I have three settings :
Put apps to sleep
Put apps to deep sleep
Apps that are not put to sleep.
I can add as many as i want in here.
There's an option to Goodlock's Task Changer to keep an app open which is a setting you don't have anywhere else in the system.
But i don't have that long live app in Multistar on my end.
Sorry for digging this up but do all of your apps appear in the "Apps that never sleep" list of apps?
I'm missing quite a few of my apps, aProfiles and Philips Hue for a start...
Anyone has noticed that before? Thnx
