Problem with the new CM14.1 and Snapchat - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

I am having a problem logging into snapchat on my OnePlus 3 after I flashed the new official cyanogenmod 14.1. I do not have xposed installed atm (app and framework). Does anyone else have this problem, or know how to fix it?
Snapchat is unusable on Oxygen OS, so i don't want to go back to that.

It won't work. Snapchat uses safetynet root detection when you log in. So you need to go back to stock and relock your bootloader in order to use the official app, then take a backup with titanium backup and then unlock your bootloader flash cyanogen and restore the titanium backup.
Or you could just use an unofficial app, like casper: https://casper.io/

[Q] Google play store not working

Important info in the story:
Device: Nexus 7 (Rooted)
OS: Cyanogenmod 10.2.0
Overall problem: Google play not working or getting apps on working Google play system.
So let me start from the beginning. I was trying to get an app to work but the app kept saying i need root permission, so i went on SuperSU and i accidentally clicked a button that supposedly gets rid of supersu (no warning whatsoever). so to fix this problem i reboot my device that doesn't work. So i went in twrp and installed supersu. so now another problem arose. When i open Google play it says no connection, even though i can get on chrome and other things. so at this point i'm just concerned. i go home and tried uninstalling Google play and reinstall it. doesn't work. Then i try clearing cache, doesn't work, then data, still doesn't work. after that i try to delete my gmail account to see if that works, does not. so then i try on backing up my device with twrp, then making a whole new restore to get a fresh copy of cyanogenmod. everything works but i have no apps and data. so backup this new cyanogenmod and tried to go back on my old not working save and it wont restore, it says it failed. so i wipe all data so now i don't have an OS and then i solved that and got back rooted and installed cyanogenmod. the i try to just restore data from my old cyanogenmod and it goes through but this time on boot it optimizes apps, done with that, now is stuck in a infinite bootloader. so i restore to my old cyanogenmod and this is where i am now.
The overall question is how to i either fix google play store, or how do i port my apps and data to the working cyanogenmod Google play store?
If you can't follow with my terrible typing skills tell me and ill try to clarify. I just thought starting from the beginning of the problem would help.

My suggestion:
-----BACKUP EVERYTHING-----
Flash the stock factory image and the stock kernel, and go from there. You can easily reinstall a new CM, and reroot if you lost it in the process. WugFresh's N7 toolkit is great for this.
Also - I had problems with TWRP on my nexus. CWM touch works much better, I find.
EDIT: The N7 toolkit will restore everything to factory defaults, and can do backups as well.

^that's the toolkit. Pretty self-explanatory GUI.
So doing this i won't lose any apps and data and ill have to reroot? cause all i care about is not losing apps and data and getting google play to work again with a root.

Sure, what exactly are you having trouble with?
When you first start the app, it will ask for the version and device model. After that, it will ask for your recovery that you're currently running (maybe not in that order), select TWRP in your case. It will then download things, and the program will start up.

You don't have to go to advanced utilities. On the first screen, "backup", then "back to stock"
After that's done and everything works, you can root and flash custom recovery if you lost it.

Are you running official TWRP? CM14.1 requires modified TWRP and I believe most people are using version 23 (Credits to @eng.stk) for CM14.1.

No offense taken. This is just what happens if you venture using MODs with limited knowledge
But the misery of updating hasn't ended yet. So now I have access to TWRP, and I had done a TWRP nand backup before going to CM14, but I found out this was from the Boot, System, EFS and System Image, but NOT from the 'data'. When I restore everything I have I do get back into CM13, but nothing is working and it's rebooting all the time. Completely useless. I just checked and both my data and sd-card are intact. So I don't understand why I am not just getting back to the state I was before starting the CM14 misery. Is this because files on the 'data' got changed when doing the OTA CM14 nightly?
I also tried first restoring the image and then putting the CM13 nightly that I came from on top of it. Same ****. Also tried other way around, first CM13 nightly from TWRP, and then the image restore ('data' excluded since I didn't have that) on top of it. Also no luck.
Anyone an idea how to get back to my CM13?
By now I have wasted a full working day. I regret ever installing CM14, I just want to get back to the situation yesterday with a working CM13... :crying:

Why were you unable to use your backup to restore CM13? In my case I didn't have a backup of the data-partition, which I think is the problem. But if you have a complete backup you should be able to get it back right? Isn't that the whole purpose of doing a backup before you update the ROM?

Okay so if you restored a complete backup and still wasn't able to get back to a working CM13 then we probably have exactly the same issue.
It could also be related to the TWRP version we have installed now, maybe the new TWRP is not able to handle CM13. Anyone here to comment on this?

Snapchat Easy fix for Root users

I see so many posts with users having login failures using Rooted devices and some solutions which to me are more complicated than needs be. This is my two cents worth and may be of benefit to the community.
Here we go.
When you Root your device it triggers security issues within the Snapchat app and login fails.
Easiest solution for me is to flash a custom recovery (TWRP) and then download most recent SuperSU zip if not already done.
One rooted the issue of login to Snapchat occurs. Simply open SuperSU application, select remove root from within the menu of SuperSU App. Root access is then lost. Open Snapchat and login as normal and the Application detects no Root and gains login access. Keep the Snapchat application logged in and then reboot to TWRP recovery and flash the downloaded SuperSU zip file which was downloaded earlier. Reboot the device and there you go, a rooted device and a working Snapchat on your device. Takes very little time and seems to do the trick for me every time.
This to me is reasonably hassle free and saves the hassle of issues that many users experience.

Sorry for the noob question. How are you making a backup with Titanium without root? I'm not able to use the app unless I have root. I've tried Helium, but Snapchat seems to have blocked apps from backing it up.
I'm using an SM-G930FD on Nougat, so I don't even have access to the xposed framework, yet.

Well I can't root without wiping my phone. Using TWRP and wiping my phone is the only method for a G930FD on Nougat at the moment. I even have to wipe my phone just to install TWRP without root. So there is pretty much nothing that can be done. Xposed isn't on Nougat and Titanium backup won't work because I'm unable to obtain root without wiping.

If not, uninstall it. Try using magiskmanager and doing the hide feature before logging in. If you try activating anything after you open the app you going to run into problems.

Sorry, I can be vague at times.
In order to obtain root on my hone (Galaxy S7 Duos) I need to reformat my device due to the way Samsung encrypts there new devices. If I don't reformat then my phone won't allow SuperSU to mount. Re-formatting the device allows me to mount SuperSU before the device encrypts itself.
I looked into Magisk, I've been using it for awhile (for the double speaker mod). Trying to use the Hide feature I get a pop-up saying "Not using MagiskSU ... It's not officially supported,". I tried logging into Snapchat after that but I still get the same problem

What phone are you using? I'm using an S7 Duos, which requires the device to be reformatted before obtaining root, due to Samsung's encryption. Not sure if that encryption thing is just the stock ROM, I've download a few other ROMs so hopefully I don't get the same problems.

[ROM][7.1.2][OFFICIAL] LineageOS for N7105 - Help

OK, I dont want to post in the ROM area.. as far as I remember I am suppose to post here.
So I would like to install 14.1 on my note 2 I317. I did it last night.. not great results, but it was the root thing.
I am not sure the dev thread is updated on the latest way to upgrade the phone.
Anyone help? I flash the rom, then the apps (is the stock still the best option?) and then what do I do about root, because in the last few posts of the dev thread I see something about not flashing.. and flashing.
and then there is the HWC thing? am I doing this>? or no?
James
Also I am coming from way back on a rom called SLIMFAST 4.4 - If I want to carry over apps and data.. what is the best way to do that? or can I really?
James
You will carry the data (music, videos etc.), but app data no.
I don't recommend you to flash HWC as you are beginning with this and it is still test stuff.
Anyway steps:
1. Flash latest version of TWRP.
2. Backup. (In case something goes wrong)
3. Wipe dalvik, cache, system, data.
4. Install LineageOS.
5. Install Google Apps. There aren't 'the best'. It all depends on you which you want to use/how much google stuff you want on your phone.
6. Install magisk for root - http://tiny.cc/latestmagisk
7. Reboot.

Or u can just backup APKs using this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.usage.appbackup
And restore them with just one click using this :

But if you want data too, Titanium is good
well since the install the first time did not work well I restored the backup I did.. Now tonight I was trying to use the gps, and it is now not working since I restored the backup?
Is it possible something happened there??
When you restore a backup ( I did a complete with everything) I dont have to wipe stuff out first do I?

well, the partitions that is going to be restored are wiped by default before restoring the backup, so there's no need to wipe, it might be a bug in the ROM and you didn't notice it before.
anyway, you can try wiping manually then restore.
btw, your thread name is confusing, it's better not to right in that form......[ROM][7.1.2][OFF..........when it's a normal help thread.
well I am not sure it is a normal help thread.
For 2 years I have been using slimfast 4.4 no issues - and then I decided to try this rom, and it breaks my GPS.
I have restored 3 different backups I had of slimfast 4.4 dating back to January 2015. None of them does the GPS work.
Before I tried the 7.1 upgrade I was locking 22 satellites in about 45 seconds. Now I cannot lock to 1.
Is there an issue with this rom that would break the GPS to the point that no matter what rom is in it wont work?
Or can someone give me a hint on what to try next? I can try and re-do the upgrade via Option58s instructions.

yes it's a normal help thread, your thread name is more like a ROM thread name!, however...
did you try a clean install of the kitkat rom first?
maybe something is making a conflict or whatever I'm not sure..
try a clean install and see if the GPS is fixed.
clean install of 4.4 and no gps. apps that can show if the hardware is there, so it is present and available? but no app gets a lock.. on even 1 satalite.

I'm not sure, last thing to try is Flashing stock ROM, if that didn't help it, then it's a hardware damage.

Snapchat not working

Alright so all I did was left the stock rom on there, unlocked my bootloader, flashed it and rooted it. Still running Oxygen and I used SuperSU but now I can't login to snapchat please help :/
Unroot your phone. Install snapchat and login.
Take titianium backup. Root your phone. Restore backup.

Well I've done this but now my keyboard isn't showing up. It was just Gboard, default installed

Sounds like you have bigger issues like a corrupt system. Might want to do a full wipe and reinstall the OS from the ground up.
Flash your ROM, then kernel, then magisk.
In magisk manager, tick Snapchat under magisk hide.
Force close the app and reopen and log in.
As of now with an unlocked bootloader. The only way to pass safety net and therefore be able to log into Snapchat is with magisk
Do not use supersu. Use magisk
