Wireless Charging - Moto Z Play Questions & Answers

Hello everyone,
I am planning to buy The Incipio offGRID™ Power Pack with wireless charging for my Moto Z Play, but I've just learned that the charger is sold seperately. I don't know much about wireless charging. So I have a few questions:
1. Does it charge fast? As far as I know it supports Qi 1.2.1 and PMA 3.0 and its charging rate is 5W. But I dont know what do these mean.
2. Is it reliable for overnight charging? My previous phone was LG G4 and while charging, because of the heat the motherboard broke down twice. So when I am sleeping, I want to make sure that it stops charging when the battery is full.
3. Which charging pad do you suggest for this phone? I don't want to pay much to wireless charger, but I also want to avoid from dangerous or slow ones. So I demand for a high price-performance ratio.
4. Other than the appearance, what are the differences between incipio, kate spade or tumi?
I also want your opinions and suggestions about anything on this topic
Thank you

I got a chi charger and it works fine for me. Charges fine over night. No heat problems.

5W = standard wireless charging speed. It's convenient but not fast.
As far as I know only Samsung Galaxy S7 series phones support the latest fast Qi wireless charging standard.

If I need fast charging I just plug it in. The wireless charging, it doesn't matter if it's regular speed charging because I'm sleeping.

Wall Adapter [Q]

Could you guys recommend me a wall adapter?
I heard that i should get a 1500 mA one, but the best i found on amazon is Belkin Universal USB Wall Charger EU which is a 1000 mA ( i'm not allowed to post links yet, but if you search it it's impossible not to find it). I have to tell you that i can only buy it from the UK and that it needs to be a standard EU plug.
The one amazon.de sent me charges fine, the only issue is that it turns on my device if i try to charge it when it's off. The charger is a 5v 1A.
My iPhone 5S wall charger is also a 5v 1A but it "behaves better" i guess, because when my moto G is off wheni plug it to the iPhone 5S wall charger it doesn't turn on my phone automaticaly, it charges fine and the moto g only shows the battery image on screen.
Both charge ok (1A 5v), but if i want to charge my phone when it's off i guess some chargers won't be able to do that. Maybe it's an voltage accuracy.

I use adapter from my Nexus 7, otput is 5V 2A and no problems.
Any wallcharger will do as long it is 500-1500mA but i think anything over 1500mA can be used, but the device will limit it to 1500mA.
But i wouldn't recommend anything over 1500mA as it could damage the device.
The higher the mA is the faster it will charge.
Currently im using the Sony Ericsson Live Dock DK10 to charge my Moto G but im looking for a more powerful charger.
Press Thanks if i have Helped!

Additional amperage does not harm the device, only incorrect voltage will. The phone will only draw as much amperage as the charging chip allows.
Having said that, keep in mind that quick charging will wear out the battery faster than a slower charge.
I'm using a 750mA, 5V Blackberry charger for mine - from empty it takes about 2hrs 45mins to fully charge, so a higher amperage should be pretty fast. Doesn't boot the phone if the phone is off.
i bought this one

didn't receive it yet
In case anyone is wondering whether the old Apple wall charger is working or not (the one from circa 2007. I broke my other decent wall adapter...), it's working almost perfectly. It's correctly recognized as wall charger and ~1A is drawn from. That's quite surprising, It had always been wrongly detected by all the phones I tried to charge with it. The only drawback is that the device can't be charged when off, the device will simply boot as soon as it's plugged. This doesn't happen with proper wall chargers (at least on JB, I don't know if something changed with KK).
To know if a wall charger is detected as such, dial *#*#4636#*#* and see if it says "USB" instead of "CA" in the battery informations. Usually USB means lower current (~500mA) and kernel wakelocks (not always this one, it depends on how the charger is detected). That's not good.
You can also get the amount of current flowing though the battery using CurrentWidget (look for it on the Play Store) or reading the files in /sys/class/power_supply/battery/.
nothing happens if the moto g connect a charger that 2.0a galaxy s4
The Asian dual sim version comes with a charger with a hard wired cable, rather than a micro USB cable (and interestingly, its only got 2 wires connected from what I can tell). Its 500mA, and mine uses a UK plug. I've also tried it with a HTC charger (the moto charger has a VERY long, unwieldy cable) thats also 500mA and it works too. There's no real need for a higher amperage, and it does tend to charge pretty fast.

Is it safe to charge with 1.5 A charger?

Hi,
I have heard when possible don't use fast chargers like the one included with OP3 (Dash Charger) so I was thinking to charge OP3 with a Samsung charger that has 5V - 1.55A output. Is it a good idea or should I just use Dash charger every time?
Does fast chargers like Dash charger degrade battery life in the long run?
U can use whatever you want
You heard that from who? I assume any charger should be okay, but why on earth would a manufacturer include a charger with a device that isn't even safe to use? That is unless they made a mistake somehow or another. But other than that, that would be the stupidest thing ever and a support nightmare.
You just need to stop listening to whom ever your currently listening to.. Dash charger is good.
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
That happens when people apply old logic/rules to new tech ... Using provided Dash Charger will NOT degrade your battery any more than normal. And using lower amperage will not help it much either, it will just slow down the charging process.
In general about using unofficial charger: voltage has to be the same as official, amperage can be lower. Using higher amperage is not recommended, but phones today are "smart" enough to just not use the charger's full potential. So basically like people said you can use pretty much any charger with any device and you'll be ok.

Just make sure you use a 5V charger. My Samsung tablet uses a 5.3V and I think that's not that great for the battery.

Charging speed

To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Rate this thread to express how quickly the OnePlus 3T can charge. A higher rating indicates that it charges extremely fast.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Love DASH! I quit charging at night because while using WAZE on way into work, I'm at 100% in no time anyway....

DASH charger is indeed brilliant
Love the dash charging too. Such a big improvement for me. Plug it in, do some things, return and have a phone with at least 70 percent. Hell yeah. Good if you need to leave but dont have much time for charging. Even 10 minutes give you an enormous boost. Never want to miss that ^^
btw where can i rate this thread from the xda app??
i know its a silly Q but if i use a regular USB C cable , will the charge speeds be v slow or just a small % down
This dash charge is a real thing! 2-3 minutes gives you about 8-10%

DASH is the best charging experience of all times
The cable and brick are dope too indeed
EDIT
Exactly 1 hour 20 minutes from 0 to 100%, proved with a stopwatch

Because of the fact that the adapter is the one that gives you much or less ampere i would say it does not depend on the cable. I.e. when i plug in the usb c cable from 1+ into my tablet adapter that has 2.5 Ampere Output im not on dash charging. It charges normal. The 1+ Adapter does have an output of 4 Ampere, so it gives you the Dash Charging.
So i would say the cable from 1+ IS a normal Usb c cable. (anyone proves me wrong??)
Greetings
Love the dash charge
Dash charge is great. Charge up my phone super fast. Love it.
DASH is definitely great in comparison to QC 2.0 and 3.0. I'm just concerned about battery durability since the battery is not easily removable.
On the ampere app the max input current I noticed was at 3510mA, which is pretty insane.
All in all, awesome technology.

Never touched a wireless charging thing. from my knowledge i would say it depends on the wireless protocol how fast it charges.
i can't give you any hints if wireless charging is better/faster then dash charging
there are also differences in dash/fast charging. look to other publisher like Huawei or zte. they have different charging times and what you get out of it in you battery.
Now i consider buying this one hahaha
Dash charging is genius. Letting my phone charge after work right now. Picked it up and it was stone cold. Love that. Left it on for onky 20 minutes and i got my 40% juice back easily. Its just great. I love this phone wholeheartedly.
The speed my phone charges at is insane. 30 min and I have at least 60% more battery.
Dash charging works great and overall charging speed is fine.

Wireless charging is more of a gimmick than anything else, it's much less effective and charging currency is about 200-400 milli amps per coil, so at best your can reach about 1 amp with a triple coil charger. ?
Actually, a single coil charger won't even trigger charging on this phone, tried it and it gives up on charging in like 0.2 seconds. ?

Wireless Fast Charger ???

Is there a wireless fast charger that works with the G6? Every ine I have tried only does standard charging. Even the Samsung works but it won't fast charge. Any options?

It works fine but no quick charge. I put my S8 on it and it says fast charging but then says it will take 2hrs to get full. It fast plugging in our phones

no, just the lightning bolt for charging. That's it. It's not "fast" charging wirelessly. But honestly, only about an hour, I can get a charge from about 35-40 %. But, when I plug in the cable the fast charge symbols show up. and it's DEFINITELY quicker.

That's exactly what I have been noticing. I tried both the G6 and S8 on the samesung charger: G6 said it was standard charging. THe S8 says its fast charging bu tells you it will take 2hr to go to full.

The LG G6 does NOT support fast (wireless) charging. So there isn't one it'll work with.
Sent from my LG-H872 using Tapatalk
Wireless fast charging isn't really fast charging. Not the same way it is with wired fast charging at least.
I believe it only charges as fast as a regular charging cable, which is still faster than standard wireless charging.
Try using a regular non fast charging base, see what the charge time is, then try the fast charging wireless charger, if the times are similar, then it's fast charging.

Xtorm Wireless Fast Charging

Hello,
The SONY wireless charger (WCH20) dedicated to the ZX2 being sold € 100 (with a power of 9W), I preferred this one: XW202 - Xtorm Wireless Fast Charging Pad (QI) Freedom, at the price of 39 €.
The built-in LED lights indicate when your phone is charged. With its high 10-Watt output, wireless charging with this device is even faster!
And you use wireless charging?
Oh, good to know we have alternatives to the official overpriced charger.
I think i saw an official Statement somewhere saying IntelligentBatterySaver doesn't work over WirelessCharging? Not sure though....
if you ever have the chance, can you do me a Favour and download this app: BatteryLog and take a log during Charging from around 5% to 100%?
There is an Export Log button which saves into .csv

Got a cheap fast charge alternative recommendation to Sony's own and the Anker Powerwave series.
It's the Omars 15-watt charger. $17 at Amazon. Comes in two styles, flat pad and rotatable puck. The latter rotates so you can have it flat or at a slight angle, which is nice. The rubber top keeps the phone from sliding as their is no lip to catch it.
I have the rotating one and measured up to 1.3A peaks during a 15%to 100% charge. Only downside is it has no fan, but again, it's only $17. Took about 2.75 hours from 15% and looks to respect the QNovo charging current slowing.
It's one of the first, true 15 watt certified chargers (at least the iLuv version below is). The LED indicator is one of the few out there that will reflect regular or quick charging. It shows the XZ2 as fast charge capable. Whoopie.
The Amazon version doesn't come with a charger so you have to supply your own. And make sure it's a true QC 2.0/3.0 charger or it will blink a mean red LED at you and flat out won't work, which I think is a wise move on their part.
Looks like iLuv will be reselling the flat pad version under their own name (and at a higher price, saw it at $40 on eBay, but it comes with a charger).
Has anyone found a magnetic qi charger that supports fast charge on the xz2.
I have tries many fast charger and they only deliver a max of 5w.
I am trying to find something that charger faster for my car.
