i'm thinking of switching from stock(currently mm .144) to cm14.1, can you give me cons & pros comparing both roms? well, in terms of ui, battery drain, apps & games performance/compatibility.
Tapped from my Zenny 2 using XDA Legacy

I agree! The only thing that prevents me from enjoying it is no Radio and no Cover support(the rest of Zenui apps are working)

Also there are some incompatibilities with pixelmaster

Most of CM features aren't here, but it would be available as the time goes on.

I don't use stock so much because I'm more attached to CM/AOSP than stock.
As for performance, it's blazing fast. My 1080p 10-bit videos could play smoothly, even with CPU clock limited to 1333 MHz. I test PPSSPP games and it's same as CM13, but it performs a little bit better.
As for UI, CMTE is absent right now. Substratum is incompatible. So, I leave most things unthemed. One unique but useful thing I found is Power notification tuner inside System UI Tuner > Other, which could be used to force set an app's notification's priority.
The only thing that bugging me is Opera Max notifications, because there's one data control panel notification and one empty and useless space from Opera Max. Disabling it from the app's settings doesn't get rid of notifications.
Games compatibility: I think I should open a new thread for CM-14.1 games compatibility list, that also include Ingress which has started to working.

I see, another question, how much SoT you have from moderate to heavy usage?
And btw, do i still need to install xposed for its features like gravitybox or it is already integrated on the rom?
EDIT: I think for now i'll just stick to Stock MM as i saw on the CM14.1 Z00A thread that there are cases of battery sudden drop to 0℅, sensor bugs, etc.

1. Probably I would have to charge my phone until full, then. However, I attached my session from 87% to 9% recorded by AccuBattery, with moderate usage on browsing here and there, doing update to 12/11 build, then playing a PSP game.
2. Xposed is absent for Nougat.

Sudden battery drop: I feel it.
Sensor bugs: Some devices affected.
Other things: Unimplemented/WIP features, GPS bugs (I don't care :v)

The first is CM14.1
The sencond is stock 5.0 - always stable (except with Facebook apps:silly
And btw, i hate stock 6 the most, it even drain my battery faster than CM13/14.1

Average sot for every rom on this board with average usage is 4 to 5 hours. I've been on here a long time , and have read through pretty much all the threads . Especially the Rom ones. And it is pretty much universally 4 to 5 hours. Of course it will all depend on what you are doing.

[Q] Phone performance

I wanted to investigate the sporadic freezing in my Galaxy S2. So, I turned on, show CPU usage under the developer's options in ICS. For reference I'm currently running Jedi Knight's latest rom.
I have attached a picture of my cpu usage while at my home screen. The number I've read to be average loads, and anything over 1.00 means trouble. I'm consistently over 10 for my one, five, and fifteen minutes averages. Also, my red bar which apparently measures time in kernel, sometimes spikes and correlates with a brief moment of unresponsiveness.
I've only seen two other screenshots and both users were under two. I was curious what everyone else's loads were. Also, let me know how frequent you have brief freezes, what kind of background apps you usually run. Include info like how many activities do you allow to run in background, do you force gpu rendering, etc. I can't wait to see other's results.

I got like 9/10/11 on mine. I always suspected that I have unusually bad battery life no matter what ROM I'm on, now I wonder if this has anything to do with it...
I'm on Eugene's Plain Jane ROM, which is an AOSP ICS ROM. The Manage Apps menu shows about 10 processes running. Force GPU is on.

Thanks, for the response. Do you ever experience temporary freezes? My goal is to figure out if my mini-freezes are caused my memory or CPU.
Sorry for the bad picture quality. I posted through the android app. Anyway, I've left my phone alone for 15 minutes, and I got 8.7/8.7/8.7. I wonder if this uses a different scale than the Unix scale.

Well, I wouldn't call them freezes, but sometimes performance seem to degrade for a fraction of a second and I experience like a small stutter. Doesn't seem to be unusual, but I'm not sure...

That's normal. The only roms I know that work 100% smooth are Jelly Bean Roms on OFFICIALLY supported devices like the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus. (Yes the Nexus S runs smoother than this phone. Not faster, smoother) but what OP is stating isn't normal in the least bit. My advice? Ditch that rom. I've never experienced such high CPU activity on any rom and its bad news. Your phone will eventually overheat and shut down. Never a good thing when the SoC gets no form of cooling.

So what do you do when CPU activity is still showing well over 1.0 (5-9) even after installing a fresh ROM? I just flashed the latest official CM10 nightly and have not installed anything other then gapps, and cpu usage is showing 9/8/5.

I experience the exact same thing as ToastMan. My device always runs cool except when have multiple, heavy-use apps open for an extended period of time. My cpu usage percentages and used memory is always reasonable. Could it be something like an incompatible kernel? What are some debugging steps we could take? What kind of information would be valuable to you that we could provide?

Is there a chance that maybe the reading is just wrong? Or maybe normal values on Android are different?
If several other people could just check their results and post them here it will be very helpful.

I was also thinking that it could be calibrated differently somehow. Like, if it was off by a factor of ten. My values would be much more reasonable. But I have seem several screenshots in the 1.0 range.

Min has always been in the area of 9/9/10ish. My screen has never stuttered not even on GB, no rrs or sods on official cm10 so far either. My battery life is an entire day (16hrs) of listening to music/playing emulators nonstop.
Make sure you have the 2 idle processes in your battery. If you don't then your phone doesn't idle which will kill your battery life.
If you are using cwm non-touch make sure you use dark side tools or upgrade to touch recovery (cwm 6.x.x.x or TWRP... my favorite). Reinstall your ROM with a complete wipe, install gapps, boot it up then wait 10 mins before doing any setup.
If you are idling then look at your batt stats again... screen is probably waaaay up there... play with your brightness settings.
Hope this helped

Galaxy running hot...

I'm kinda new to the S3 and have mainly stuck with TWIZ roms, I've tried a couple AOSP roms but found that the battery gets hot as hell quickly either while charging or using and the data connectivity is spotty at best on AOSP, I have LTE where I live but rarely see it on AOSP. I've updated PRL and profile and radios...but no luck...can anybody help or point me in the right direction? Thank...

well generally twiz roms are more stable than aosp roms... so id stay in the TWiz sections... but thats all i can say
AOSP ROMs typically run the CPU harder. While TouchWiz ROMs use more RAM. Thus why AOSP ROMs typically, emphasis on the 'typically', run hotter than TouchWiz ROMs. There are ways around this. For example, messing with CPU governors and settings. I have found ktoonsez has kept my AOSP ROMs fairly cool, relative to the default. Heat also means battery drain. So you will find here that TouchWiz ROMs normally have better battery life. I highly recommend CleanBean 4.1. Very nice ROM. Complete, stable, very quick and snappy. While no sacrificing battery life, as I was able to squeeze out about 14-15 hours. Good luck

While I agree that AOSP ROMs use more CPU and TW use more RAM, for me AOSP had the best battery life. Espicially when I'm running ktoonsez kernel I get a good 3+ hours screen time and a total of 20 hours easily. While on a TW ROM running ktoonsez I get maybe 2 and a half hour screen time with a total of maybe 12-15 hours of total battery time. Also for me the only time my phone gets hot is when my phone is charging and I am using it constantly or I'm playing graphic driven games.

Some info:
Any ROM.
Always using stock kernel.
No tweaks.
have you downloaded any apps? they might be making your cpu work harder...
I like to run my setup for a day before I download any apps, so no.

Must have missed that . At this point I would try a different Kernel. I suggest Ktoonsez Kernel.
If anyone is still having issues here.
Apps repeatedly doing wakelocks, Phone becoming hot while on standby or on charging indicates that theres a ton of background processes going while its charging.
And that includes weather updating, widgets with high refresh rate, auto-sync enabled automatically to turn on or off via file tweaks or utility applications.
I've been using CarbonRom and the only time it gets hot is when the phones at it's peak playing graphical games.
Mines is stock kernel but I have tweaked scripts that turn off my CPU's 2nd core while on standby,
and having SetCPU Auto clock the processor to be at its 2nd lowest to very lowest while screen off, and have
it clocked midranged 702-801 while screen on without doing any UV or OV.
I would also have force GPU Rendering checked and disable hardware overlays when im not using anything on the phone.
My battery life is 6-10 hours screen on web browsing, reading articles, watching movies / videos on netflix ~ Depends.
If I charged the battery and calibrate it and left it off standby without touching it, it can last around 3-4 day's depending on my
background wakelocks on messaging or any type of SMS or alerts recieved.
Also using Greenify to hibernate Ram hungry apps. and I'd usually freeze certain apps that aren't killable to save battery life.

Tweaks for saving battery without compromising on performance

Battery is one of the things that's critical for your mobile's day to day use.
I have done my research on the things that has impact on mobile phone's battery life and I am going to jot down the stuff that can clearly save your battery.
1. Changing your scheduler.
By default Android devices comes with CFQ(COMPLETELY FAIR SCHEDULER) which is the worst, So please change it to SIO(SIMPLE I/O) scheduler, This scheduler has been voted as most stable and better for battery. It even solves the heating up issues.
NOTE: DON'T NEED TO OVERCLOCK OR UNDERCLOCK your device if your planning to use your device on a long term basis, Changing the scheduler will do fine
2: Install wake-lock detector
The wake-lock detector requires root, It gives you the idea of what rogue apps makes your device stay awake, Staying awake drains a lot of battery, Best thing to do is to uninstall the rogue apps.
3: Do not install Battery saving apps
Let it be any application, They claim they save your battery by monitoring the unnecessary background apps and closing them. They don't let the device to sleep, Let it be juice defender or you name it. Do not do that.
4: Install push notification fixer
Complaints about push notifications are solved by this APP, It resets your ping time, So that you don't spend unnecessary juice trying to connect to the server.
5: Disable google now
There are better apps which can tell you weather reports, If you feel like you are depending upon google now, Just disable "LOCATION HISTORY" and "LOCATION REPORTING".
6: Wiping cache and Dalvik cache
If you have restored apps using a back-up tool such as Titanium backup please make sure you wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache once you are done restoring, It just optimizes your apps.
7: FACEBOOK MESSENGER AND VIBER wakelocks
As useful as they are they cause so many wakelocks, Use default facebook app for messaging and VIBER app can be greenifed using GREENIFY. Whenever you need it you can use them, Once u open the app u can get the missed call info as well, So if your real hungry for battery do this.
8: USING GREENIFY
Frustrated about apps causing wakelocks, Install GREENIFY and forget it. The app will be available whenever u need them , But it won't run on the background thus saving battery.
9: Do not manually close APPS
Android has got it's own task manager which does a pretty good job, Each time you close and open an app each requires more juice, So let android handle with the task and stay relaxed
10: Turn your sync off
With push notifications on, You will get your twitter updates and hotmail without sync, The only app that requires sync is GMAIL, which you can do it manually
I am posting my screenshot as proof.
Thank's Bro

Hi all,
I don't know if it is a good thing or idea i'm doing everything but so far it is working for me and I would like to get your opinion about that method for using less battery, the fact is that I always use my phone on 2G and wifi and GPS is on only when using them but for the apps I always force stop them and they remain stopped unless I open the app once again and I found I gain on my battery usage with my battery lasting for 2 to 3 days depending on the usage (many sms, sometime facebook, viber and whatsapp, messenger) but I force stop when I finish.
Do you think it is a good idea to do like that??

Kernel is like the heart of the ROM bro, DEVS have taken good time finding out which is best suited for stability and battery life.
I am using SENTINEL ROM and i have the sentinel kernel that comes along with it, I don't want to experiment with it, Coz it just works fine.
The kernel that comes along with your ROM should work fine, In case you want to experiment with other kernels you can do so, But you will have to find the one that best suits your ROM :good:

Everytime you manually close your app, It will take more battery to load up the next time. The default android will watch your usage and kills it accordingly. It is best to leave it to android. Cause everytime you launch a app freshly there is some extra drain. So best to leave it to android.
I used manually clear the apps as well, But now I never do that, Guess what i get better battery :good:

Custom Offscreen Gestures?

1. The offscreen gestures are just awesome! Is there any ROM that allows for creating custom gestures?
2. If not, would it be straightforward to add more of these gestures to a ROM (pre-included gestures like in pacrom)? Where in the source would the modification be made?
Looking for this as well, would be very useful
If this phone works anything like the oneplus one, these gestures are supported natively by the display/digitizer. This allows them to activate instantly even while the CPU is asleep. I know elemental x supports sweep to wake, but this causes noticeable battery drain, and I'm sure any other gesture other than the built in one will as well. If that's ok with you, there are apps that do this, but either your CPU will never sleep or the gestures won't work once CPU is asleep. I think being able to customize the built in gestures might be a good compromise, though I haven't seen any Roms that have this feature.
I would be interested in this as well. I use these very often and when using a custom ROM I would miss those a lot like I missed the Double Tap to wake on another device before (which is now replaced by the fingerprint reader either way):
O to open the Camera App, V to enable/disable Flashlight, > to skip a Music track
There's an Xposed module that lets you make custom gestures. I have it working on OOS 3.2.7

I think being able to customize the built in gestures might be a good compromise, though I haven't seen any Roms that have this feature.

Had no idea sweep to wake drains a lot of battery. How bad is it? I might just disable it since I'm trying to have my battery last as long as possible. Even underclocked the CPU slightly.

I haven't tried it on the oneplus 3, but on several other phones I've used (moto x pure, nexus 6p, oneplus one, etc), sweep to wake tends to drain around 1-3% an hour.

That seems quite a lot. I bet OP3 is no exception. Thanks for the information Bruno

Would be nice if you'd also tell which module that is, otherwise it's a somewhat pointless comment...

My bad, It's called gesture unlock with custom shortcuts. It can be downloaded from Xposed installer.

[QUESTION] Normal Battery Discharge Rate

I am using Resurrection Remix latest version. The Battery Discharge Rate is between 250-750mAh when I measured. Is it normal?

If you browse(only browse) with heavy browser (e.g., chrome/brave/facebook etc.) 1% in every 5-8 minutes is normal. While gaming, 1% in every 3-4 minutes is normal. However, if you just flashed the rom then wait for 2-3 cycle discharge to see the actual result.

No. While looking apps like WhatsApp and Facebook. I just flashed it 24 hours ago. Mobile Data Off, Bluetooth Off, Wi-Fi - Connected, GPS - Power Saving, CPU (Governer) - Powersave, Automatic Brightness. No many background apps (2GB RAM Free).

Yes. I use GApps.
But, when I was running CrDroid with GApps it was ok. Then I installed MSMXtended and Ressurection Remix. In both there was high battery usage. I install GApps with every ROMs but never faced such problem. Which is the best ROM in terms of battery performance?

Sure.
Because of some network problems, I am unable to attach the file. I can write it here.
It is showing Core Nos.:
0, 1, 2, 3 - 100%
4, 5, 6, 7 - 52%
Governer - powersave
I think its high

I'm on latest RR also. It seems latest one has slightly higher battery drain. May be CPU is using higher clocks all the time.

that purcentage shows the available purcentage
only your higher frequency cores are used ,which mean a heavy task is runing (or tasks)
are you using a custom kernel ?
(me too i'm using RR now for some tests and my battery drain is between -130/220mah while listening to music and -250/500mah while browsing , but i think my config is little crasy cus i freezed LOT of system apps and uninstall others ...)

No. Stock kernel came with the ROM (RR).
No heavy tasks I set. How can I check if there are any? I haven't set any? I want to check any app is doing this.

But the apps given in the image are important and they need to work. However, I think no way without switching ROM or downgrade.
