Why you create a new topic, as in the previous similar question you asked?
The equipment is old and you do not do it Pixel XL.
Do not ask about the little things, just start reading this forum, because it's all about the ROM and the A8181 has already been written.
If you want to operate all functions of the device, install custom ROM based on Android 2.3.3 [BRAVO_3.14.405.1], and if you depend on using the latest applications, it is already written you: SlimKAT or Liquidsmooth.
If you choose KK, do not forget that Uncle Google is thinking of you and going to put you into the phone, new services and new store, which stifle your phone.

What is the kernal for? and do I need to update it?

About to flash CM7. Seen some mention of 'kernal' in various threads. What does it do? and do I need to update it?
Cheers.
same question
The Kernel controls things like battery drain and CPU levels for overclocking etc... its not a must do but recommended for best performance. there is probably not a "best" one but more like the best that suits you. If you are running CM7 i would recomend Vork Kernel's or ManU kernels
Richardtrip's kernels are also very good: overcklocking, manual voltage level, Two-way call recording.

Have you used the call recording? If so how do you "activate" it or listen to the calls afterwards?

Since I'm new to Desire and HTC- what is the difference between Sense and AOSP kernels?
(before you ask- I know what AOSP is)
Do Sense firmwares require some extra drivers/modules/settings in kernel?

Hi there!
Sense is HTC proprietary software built over the top of Android. This code is not open source and is what HTC use to set themselves apart from other manufacturers like Samsung etc. Sense is what they sell as their user experience.
AOSP stands for Android Open Source Project. Since Android is an open source operating system, Google publish all the code and necessary tools to develop Android. Companies like HTC get the code and then write Sense over the top. Devs in this community like Cyanogen take the AOSP code and build their ROMS from scratch.
When you see ROMS that are for Sense 2.1 on Gingerbread for example this means that someone has been able to port software running on other phone models like the Desire HD or Incredible etc to your phone model (Desire)
As for the kernels you will need to make sure that the kernel you run is supported on the device and that's about it. The Kernel has to have some key components or the phone won't work so the ROM you use just uses them.
Having said that, ROM developers usually optimise around one or two particular Kernels. They are usually included in the ROM or the Dev will tell you which one they recommend for certain purposes.
You do have to have apps in the system that can access settings if customising the performance beyond what the dev has already done is what you want to do.
Thanks for the answer but it's not exactly what I'd like to know
Thing is- what makes Sense kernel incompatible with AOSP firmware (and vice versa)
Sorry for not answering what you were looking for. I'll try again.
The Kernels for Sense would have specific code that enables features in the phone that HTC build. LED control, light sensor etc. I assume Sense is quite strict about what it will work on and what it won't.
The AOSP Kernels are built without knowing the exact hardware maps of the internal components and as such won't work with Sense because they simply don't know how due to HTC keeping a lid on all source work for Sense and the handset itself.
The best developers can figure most of it out (certainly I am not a dev, just a geek ) and teams like CyanogenMod have it mostly discovered and configurable.
Is that more helpful?
Isn't Sense a HTC's android framework "mod"? I mean does it "just" provide more/different functionality than AOSP?
AFAIK all kernels must be built knowing exact hardware map, otherwise some devices will not work or kernel will not boot. The only autodetect I'm aware of is display panel type and filesystems (I did mess with kernels @samdroid.net)
i have a question about kernels an such from what i understand is you don't need to update the kernel but its a good idea too do so. couple questions i have.
1. how do you know what kernel you have installed currently.
2. How do you flash or get a new one installed if you need or want it.
3. scene i am using core droid 6.3 gb2.3.3 what kernel would be the most compatible or effective?
I have had my inspire phone for 3 months an finally rooted it 3weeks ago sence then i have used the rom manager too play with different roms an make backups of the 2 i have found i like the most. After reading i have seen it stated too get the most out of these roms though you should install a different kernel.
To know your currently version, you have to go in parametres and then logiciel version and look at build. Sorry for my bad English.

You will find that many roms contain a kernel in the zip file, so it will often change when you flash a rom. If not, the developer may recommend one.
Radio is independent of rom flash, and unless you start getting connectivity problems there is normally no need to change it. Again, some developers will recommend a radio (and maybe a RIL if they know a particular combination works well with their rom.

[Q] what is the latest android version for htc wildfire (neither modded nor fake)??

hii guyss..!!
i just want 2 know that which is the latest android version for htc wildfire (buzz). I want the original version nor the modded version or fake version. Plz tell me the latest update.
Are there any gingerbread ( 2.3 ) or honeycomb (3.0) for htc wildfire buzz???
plzz rplyyyy....
2.2.1 is the latest.
There wont be "non modded / fake" 2.3 for the Wildfire in all probability, and definitely not 3.0 since it is for tablets only.
sir i already have version 2.2.1 installed on my wildfire.. But i want to know dat will android 2.3 (gingerbread) be released for wildfire? if yes then what is the exact date??and original one not modded? i have listen about cyanogenmod 7. but when i read its reviews it just a joke..
As I have previously stated, its extremely unlikely official 2.3 will ever be released by HTC, because, the Wildfire is obsolete, and, if you see the other HTC Phones, Gingerbread is being released with Sense v2.1, which has issues working with the Wildfire.
So, as of now, its unlikely they will ever release 2.3, let alone give you a exact date. You can contact HTC and ask them, but I am sure all you will get is a rubbish automated reply.
And, if you read reviews of haters, ANY ROM will look like a "joke", but whatever, ROM choice is a personal thing, and I am not going to force you to use any ROM. You can stick with your "original" 2.2.1, if you are happy with it.

sir plz tell me more about cyanogrn mod 7..!! i wnt to know more about that..!! plz help me sir..!! plz tell me what is cyanogen mod exactly??
It's a Custom ROM created by the Cyanogenmod Dev Team. You can visit their official site here:
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/
It's based on AOSP (Android Open Source Project), with a lot of custom mods and features, and, obviously, its not "official", and, there is no trace of HTC Sense in it, so you will lose HTC Widgets, their Contacts, Dialer, FM, Camera etc. (Obviously there are replacements, but they are not as "slick" as in in HTC Sense.)
Before reading all reviews, I would personally recommend you give it a try. If you dont like it, you can always get back to an official stock ROM.

some questions

Hi everybody,
I'm Tim from the Netherlands and new here. Well not that new been reading here for some time now but not needed to post questions / make a account until today
I have a HTC Desire second hand for one week now and installed some roms to see what works best etc
I have right now [ROM][PRE-ALPHA] Jelly Bean - Pre-Alpha 1 [18.10.12] from LaidbackNikez
Its for my HTC the fastest rom i have seen and works really good for 1 week now.
O btw i'm a noob in this so spare me a bit. I Know how iritating people can be and maybe you think that of me also but i really looked for answers but dint found them sorry.
My questions:
The rom i have now, is there a way to update bug fixes (nightly builds? ) If i look @ evervolv site i dont see HTC Desire nightly.
IF there are updates for example the Camera bug can you install these without losing everything on the Phone?
Or do you lose everything on nightly builds..?
I just dont know yet how it all works, i know that android uses Linux based, but example cynanogen? / Evervolv? are these complete new firmwares? or software you can bind in jellybean for example? (sort of kernel updates) ?
The rom i use now dont have gps but it should work (do i need to update the radio? is that even possible?)
And the Camera issues should be great if it works. For the rest i dont see any bug for now.
I'm not a type of person that installs every week a new rom.. if i have 4.04 / 4.11/ 4.1 then i'm happy because i really like the way it looks and moves thru my second hand desire .
my info form HTC Desire:

MicroP-031d
touchpanel Synt0101
Radio-5.11.50.26
aug 10 2010 17.52:18
And again sorry if theres a site i can maybe find all my information if someone link it i would for sure read it.
Greetings,
Tim

The evervolv nightly builds are here. Look for "bravo" -
http://dl.evervolv.com/nightly
Radio can be updated. The latest radio version is - 5.17.05.23.
You can download the new radios from here -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687464
Most of the information that you have asked is available on this forum itself. You need to enhance your 'googling skills'

With nightlies is prob best to do a full wipe. Lots of people here use titanium backup so they don't have to deal with the hassle of reloading everything.

If its to much shizzle I think I stick to this rom until there's one stable, for now I have only camera issue and gps doesn't seem to find that quick sats, he find some but maybe it works better out house. but for the rest GSM works like candy really love it! that's the reason why I dint buy me a new one for 600 euros but a second hand for 80 euro

[Q] Just want a stable phone, thats all...

Hi guys, I am a BASIC android user with BASIC phone needs. Unfortunately I own a HTC Desire Z with Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) and the very crapy HTC Sense 2.1 thats keeps on slowing down the phone and mostly rendering it beyond the point of regular usage.
I want the cleanest possible, fully functioning Android version available, like on Nexus phones. Just a plain, simple, clean and basic Android version. No need for overclocking, Sense crap, MIUI interfaces or other spectaculair may-work-may-not-work-brick-my-phone stuff, just a simple working smartphone, you can call with, send text messages with, Viber, Skype or Whatsapp with. You know, kinda like old people do with the phone
So 2 questions:
1. Which version would you guys recommend as being the cleanest one available on the forum?
2. How on earth do I get there? I have basic/bit advanced knowledge about rooting phones, Kernels, radio versions, etc, but this HTC phone is beyond me. Should I first root it, then CID Unlock/ s-Off it, do I first have to downgrade it to Froyo, etc etc etc. I know the easiest answer is RTFM, or use the search function on this forum first, but with my basic knowledge I cant seem to figure it out with the tons and tons of information thats out there on the forum.
So please, a few pointers, short first-this-then-that guidelines, and I'm sure I will get there.
Have a great weekend, DaMO
First of all, you're in the wrong section.
Second : The best rom without any trouble is this one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242480
If you want more feature : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1714187
Both are very stable. Very fast. No problem at all.
But I have to say, these time, most of recent roms are pretty reliable.
Many thanks, overdose. As you are a mod, just move it to the right section.
And like I said, kind of a noob. So the post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242480 is kind of a question mark for me. As far as I understand, this release is based on a CM7 Rom, with added features? And do I only need the ILWT CM7 Kernel, or also the ILWT Deamon? What is a Deamon???!?? and why would I need it? Found a downgrade/upgrade guide from Strawmetal, hopefully it won't brick my phone and I will be able to upgrade to a normal workeable ROM.
Again, many many thanks, and tonight I will either have a useless paper weight, or a normally functioning phone

The deamon allow you to control overclocking, voltage, I/O, governors.
Witch you dont need, if you dont want to play with it.
i.e mimicry's already set to 1000 mhz cpu. You dont need to touch anything if you're satisfied with this cpu speed.
It's hard to find a complete guide for newbes. Back in years, I remember that I had to look at multiple thread to be sure how to root/backup/flash and make sure not to brick.
The major difference between the two (I was using Mimicry myself for the longest time, but I'm currently testing the Flinny Jellybean build) is one is Gingerbread (CM7) and the other is Ice cream sandwich. So if you're find with android OS 2.3, you will for the most part have the most compatibility with the phone's hardware (since all the drivers are avail), and will run better on the phone. But Mimicry will give you the features of ICS (4.0.x), but may lack in some areas like camera capabilities with 3rd party apps such as instagram (which is fixed in the jellybean rom I'm currently using).
But as a "basic" user, I think sticking with gingerbread will do you just fine.
I personally found this guide most useful and very easy to follow. The only problem might be that it needs adb and the respective drivers, but installing it should not be too difficult.
My favourite ROM, when it comes to speed and stability, is the "cm-7.2.0-vision.zip" found here. It might have some extras, but compared to everything else I tried (and I tried a lot), it worked like a charm.
Hello guys, many many thanks for all your advice. After about a day of work, I have a fully functioning Desire Z, with cyanogen 7.2.0 release. I had some difficulties getting there ( a faulty PC10IMG file, a bootloop after finally flasing the CM zip that seemed endless, a bootloader that gave up on me, etc), but learned a lot along the way. My conclusion: as enthusiastic and capable all the people at XDA are, nothing beats the official manufacterers release of the software. Sure, here and there also original roms have glitches and FC's, but basically everything works the way it should work, all the drivers are present and mostly updated. So my motto is: if it aint broken, dont mess with it

I hear ya!
Which guild did you end up using? I found the one here too convoluted to take a chance on bricking my phone. Like it says to download ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0 and 5.8...well which is it? The cyanogenmod wiki instructions are easier to follow but it looks like they stopped developing at gingerbread which I already have. What I did was get the unlock code from HTC and then used busybox to install su for root access.
If CyanogenMod ever comes out with a more current version, I may give it a try but I am guessing they are only going to develop for the latest phones.

I used a mix of guides, basically the procedure was: downgrade to Froyo, unlocked and temporarly rooted (S-Off), got it permanent rooted, and then installed CM 7.2.0
Thats all

Oreo for HTC10

So, my wife picked up the Pixel phone today from Verizon and it's updated to Oreo already. I've got my HTC 10 running stock but I used Sunshine to Unlock the bootloader when I purchased the phone a while back. I was happy with stock and never rooted the phone. But, I'm jelly now and will root and install TWRP tonight. I've been out of the game for a while but my rooting/flashing days go back to Thunderbolt, DNA (my fav), HTC M7, M8, and now my 10. I wanted to ask a few quick questions. Please understand I'm not making requests, demands, or anything. I've donated to the devs in the past. One question, for the 10 on Verizon US, what is the closest to the Pixel ROM available? Also, I remember back in the day devs releasing ROMs pretty quickly after OTA updates to the flagships and was wondering if there's some technical reason around why we haven't seen them on the HTC 10 thread. Thanks in advance!
Just gotta check the ROMs section of the forum. If you want the closest thing to Oreo/Pixel experience get a AOSP ROM. Lineage is good place to start but there are plenty of other ROMs to check out.

Don't know much abt Verizon..cuz I'm using international version & for that the best closest, most stable Rom for HTC 10 is Pure Fusion Os rom in my opinion..the only thing you'll miss there is Sense Camera,Rest Rom is Purely amazing..✌?✌?
I am suggesting you to go ahead with Resurrection remix official for your HTC.. I am already running on my HTC 10 and there are so many tweaks and customisation available.
+1 for Res Remix for LOS based ROM
for AOSP based ROM I suggest AOSP Extended
--Both of these ROMs I have found to be the most stable with the most tweaks
For Sense based ROM, LeeDrOiD or Viper ROM.
Or install MultiROM and have them all installed like I do.
HTC has announced that the 10 will be getting Oero officially so once that is released, the Sense based ROMs will most likely start jumping on that and re-basing their ROMs.
LOS/AOSP ROMs are already in the process (or at least some are) of updating to Oreo
Throwing in another recommendation for PureFusion. It's the closest thing to the Pixel that you'll find and is updated often.
Another one for the pure fusion. It's the closest you can get to pixel on the 10.
