Verizon M8 with modified SIM Tray IMEI - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a used M8 for the price of the M7, it had a locked bootloader, modified 1111111 CID and S-OFF, I updated it manually to MM 6.0 Verizon after installing TWRP
My Questions are
- Can I flash non-Verizon ROMs like an unlocked M8?
- Do you advise unlocking the bootloader as well? Through which means?
- Do you prefer CM14 over Sense 8/7, I love Sense put CM14 looks great! Is S-team/ICE/Lee/Venom ROM more stable than CM14?

The Verizon is known as a "CDMA" version (works on Verizon's CDMA voice network, as well as GSM) versus most other "GSM" versions of the M8.
This means you can install most ROMs meant for the M8, however, you would need to flash the proper kernel to get it working. Or stick to ROMs which specifically support Verizon M8.

Since your intent is to flash custom ROMs, its not a question of whether we advise it or not; you must unlock the bootloader in order to install custom recovery (needed to flash custom ROMs).

CM14 is in alpha. There will be bugs. Can't say firsthand, but another member stated nothing major is broken.
Sense based ROMs take official ROM, and tweak it. Generally speaking, this will be more stable than an alpha ROM like CM14.

Rogers is a GSM carrier .. nearly all the roms in the M8 international forums will work fine on your device
it's a good idea to update the software OTA fully before you begin the bootloader unlock / custom recovery / Rom flashing
Would that be the same for the samsung galaxy s5? If it's from rogers cause it seems like s5 has alot of models etc

The s5 has locked bootloader
So does that mean if I want to get back to flashing Roms and having the most opportunity, I should get a m8?? Cause the compaptability of Roms with s5 is limited with model??(GONNA assume that's what locked boot loader means)
Aside from ROMs specifically intended for CDMA variants (Sprint & Verizon) and dual SIM variant (if there are even any ROMs) any ROMs meant for the M8 can be flashed on your Rogers variant.
Aside from the exceptions listed above, the M8 versions are identical in hardware, aside from minor cosmetic differences like carrier logos.
You might need to update your firmware to run the current ROMs (s-off required).

[Q] upgradE to newest firmware(4.16.401.10) and still run 4.4.4?

I was hoping to upgrade my firmware(3.32.531.2) to the newest version(4.16.401.10). My baseline nand back up is the original htc tmobile 4.4.4 rom after it was boot loader unlocked, rooted, and s-offed, but nothing else.
If I upgrade to the latest and greatest firmware will that rom still run, or can that only work with android 5.x?
Basically I wanted to upgrade the firmware, make sure that all works, then move to a 5.x rom. I've tested a few 5.x roms and they worked with the older firmware, but I was curious if people knew if it worked the other way?
Thanks!
Device:
Tmo 4.4.4 m8
current firmware 3.32.531.2
Mostly stock - unlocked bootloader, rooted, and s-offed. Still on original htc image

It does work the other way, better than old firmware and new ROM. With old FW and a newer ROM, you will possibly have data connection issues, particularly WiFi.

So to be clear: old firmware and new rom works(and I've tried it) but may have issues(I had lte issues but was fine with wifi) but also new firmware old rom shouldn't cause real issues(aka unbootable)? When I was doing this with my old htc sensation sometimes that wasn't the case(but this was back in the good old gingerbread days). New rom(ics) and old firmware was bad news.
If something goes wrong, I want to be able to roll back to my working nand back up of 4.4.4, but if the firmware doesn't allow it, I could have some serious issues.

Yeah, don't worry. I had 4.16.401.10 on a 4.4.4 ROM for a month or more.

Great That's what I wanted to know! I had to wait months to s-off..(sunshine 3.x+) after having free reign with my sensation. I'm just so excited!
Nice to know.
And what about Xposed? If i don't get wrong, it doesn't work on Lollipop because Lollipop is ART-based.
So it should not be any way related to firmware, meaning that I could have the latest firmware (able to support a Lollipop ROM), a Kitkat based ROM AND working Xposed.
Could it be?

I don't use Xposed, but I believe it will work fine with new firmware as long as you are still on a 4.4.4 base. Xposed modifies /system which is part of the ROM.

Oh yah. Going great. I've settled on LeeDroid as my daily driver, but want a gpe/aosp version that works better in the end. CM12, Blisspop, skydragon(and I've tried others) have all had an issue or two for me that pulled me back to leedroid's. I've not wanted to make the switch to full GPE conversion yet, but maybe one day...

So that is your software number for the unmodded, stock ROM?
If so, your firmware is current, and you should be able to flash any current ROMs (and probably older ones, too - but most folks usually aren't that interested in older ones) for the GSM M8. Just stay away from any ROMs that only specifically support the CDMA versions (Sprint and Verizon).
I won't say "without any issues" since there is always some chance of issues, even with the completely correct configuration. But I can say that you shouldn't run into issues related to outdated firmware.
yea i have the stock rom s-on
just had the phone new for one day
can i install this one?

Yes. Make sure you pick "other M8 version" (or some such wording - just don't pick Verizon, Sprint, or T-Mobile) in the AROMA installer.
thank you my friend redpoint73

[Q] Can custom rom's firmware base be different then what my phone came with?

Hi everyone, enjoying my awesome M9 like everyone else =D
and its time to move on to the custom rom goodness.
I can't seem to find an answer to the question. (maybe its too obvious? coming from s3)
Mine is a M9 (hong kong), with 1.32.708.15 (s-On) and all the custom roms are 1.32.401.17 based.
Is it safe to Flash it?
This is the only info i managed to find at the ARHD 5.0 OP with regards to the question.
"- If your current firmware version doesn't match ROM firmware version, wiping data inside AROMA is highly recommended!"
Would be nice if I can get some confirmation from you guys.
Yes it is fine right now since it is the same base. Get soff while you can so flashing firmware in the future is easy. Remember always backup first. Use twrp 2864

I did this on the M8 before, I had problems with the wifi and it took ages to boot until I found out that my firmware is old and different from the rom.
Anyway, I did what you are trying to do yesterday, (firmware 15/ rom 17) for a couple of minutes, didnt find any problems.
Before you flash any ROM, BACKUP your system and move it to your PC and use the latest TWRP
Thats good to hear! I'm gonna give it a try once i'm back in town! Thx!
Please Help me!
I have a HTC (M9) Verizon, and base is 1.33.605.15, it is advisable to downgrade the base to 1.32.401.17?? (for install customs roms with this base)

ONLY. use firmware for your phone. if you flash a gsm firmware on a cdma phone you are asking for trouble, big time.

Back to stock rom with S-ON

Hello guys,
i'm an owner of HTC one M8, with unlocked bootloader from htcdev but with S-ON.
I just want to go back to stock rom, because every custom rom i try has some issues (battery life mainly too short! I dont know if this is because of firmware, i
dont know how to update it or even how to see what is my one now).
But, the only guides i see are with S-OFF devices. Is this possible to to it with s-on?
Also, i would be s-off if there is a still working method, i've seen firewater one doesnt work anymore so there are no other solutions.
EDIT: at least guys, can you tell me how to check and/or update my firmware?
You post this on wrong section .. should be in Q&A ... I'm asking a mod to move this thread to Q&A
Read this thread, it is for both S-On and S-Off to get back to stock - http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
First thing to check is fastboot getvar all result (delete serial & imei no.) then we will know what you need to do
Try MIUI7 rom

listen you can try MIUI based rom for htc it have great battery backup compare to the other marshmallow based roms,
so you first try miui rom(4.4.4) for htc , it have some bugs like google text to speech isnt working but battery backup is awesome. rom is stable though. and you cannot rollback to stock using ruu when your device is S-ON , use sunshine for S-OFF, lol pay $25

Ok i would like to not pay lel.
THE PROBLEM in using custom roms is, i think, the firmware, because i just flashed trough fastboot the roms, without updating any firmware.
I tryed Android revolution HD and Skydragon but booth had battery problems, i mean the battery was going down too quickly also with screen off (from stats, in 6 hours i say 3 hours deep sleep, 3 hours 300 mhz cpu so it didnt "relax"!
I really want top say thanks to ckpv5 that helped me in PM's and linked me his own guide to restore to stock rom, it worked and it's all perfect! Thanks man!
Just a last question: now i have the stock htc one rom, so i'm doing OTA's. This means my firmware is automatically updated with them?
So if in future i want to install a custom rom MM based, i won't need to flash firmware?
Yes firmware is updated with the OTA .. after the latest OTA 6.12.401.4, you can install latest TWRP and install MM custom ROMs .. no need firmware update anymore
Very well, thanks mate.
for the moment i'll leave the stock rom.
I will use a MM custom rom when they will be based on official MM rom for htc one m8, and not porting from M9/A9

There have been MM based Sense custom ROMs since before the new year (Viper, Skydragon Sense, Wolla, ARHD).
S.ROM is the only A9 port.
