Unknown USB device (failed request for device descriptor) - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

I have a problem.
My screen is broken. Now I want to send him to OnePlus.
But before that I want unroot it. Or at least reset to factory defaults. But both things fails.
I have the latest FreedomOS Rom. Since then I can no longer use TWRP. When I start my phone to the recovery the screen goes black and nothing happens anymore.
The same happens when I put it back to factory settings through the settings menu .
I've read there is a modified version of TWRP.
From here begins the real problem. Windows doesn't recognizes my phone.
In Device Manager it appear as "unknown USB device (failed request for device descriptor)"
What I've tried:
Boot in to Bootloader
Original (Dash) USB cable
Other USB cable
WIndows 10
Windows 7
USB debugging on
USB debugging off
OEM unlocking on
OEM unlocking off
USB configuration: File transfer
USB configuration: MTP
USB Configuration: Charge
Anyone have an idea?
Maybe it's the ROM. But I cannot flash another ROM because I can not get into TWRP.
Maybe it's an option to flash the modified TWRP without a computer. So right from the bootloader. But I do not know if this is possible. And how it should be done

I'm having the exact same problem. Did you find a solution?
In windows 10 -> i get Device Descriptor Request Failed
In windows 7 -> Unknown Usb Device (Installed Correctly)
whenever i try to update device driver with ANY driver (oneplus... or generic sdk driver) I get a message saying "doesn't contain a suitable driver for your device.....)

I went to device manager > right click mtp (unknown device) > update driver software > browse my computer > let me pick > mtp USB device > happy me

Windows it's the problem. I reinstalled drivers, adb, nothing. At work i try it & it works. I reinstalled windows. Now works.
I'm on windows 10 x64.

Damn it, I don't think windows is my problem.. i tried Windows 10 / Windows 7(2 diff computers)
i can't even see the phone as MTP..

Found any solution to this? Having a similar issue

[Q] USB connection fails on 3 different PCs

I wanted to root my phone and flash a costum rom... unfortunately my DHD (2.2.1) is T-Mobile branded, so i had to create a goldcard in order to downgrade from 1.75.111.2 to 1.32. When it came to temproot it manually with cmd i had to plug my DHD into my PC in load only mode, usb debugging activated.
I knew already that my DHD wont recognize my PC or the other way round (i somehow broke it when i deleted the htcsync drivers.exe from my sd card), but i thought maybe it would somehow work in usb debugging mode.
Well, it didnt(phone not found).
i then focused on repairing my usb connection, so i tried it on 2 other pcs (mine is w7, the other ones are xp and win7) but it all failed
(xp asked for drivers, which i installed directly from htc.com today(on all pcs(plus i removed and reinstalled them all properly))/win7 did nothing/mine said that it fails to connect and that i should use a usb 2.0 port(well all ports are usb 2.0, i also tried usb3.0))
evertime i plugged my DHD in i was asked which connection i want to use, none worked, i also restarted my phone several times (usb connected and without) when i type in #7284# (or *#7284# i tried both) it says: connection failure or invalid mmi code
Finally i resetted my phone and did it all again! But it wont work!
please help me!
Hi...It looks like a driver issue...
If your drivers are installed correctly, in your win-7 Device manager it will show DHD.
I would suggest to Re-install HTC Sync from HTC website - Run it again and give it a try
doesnt work either.... win7 says the device does not run properly, my phone does nothin unusual...
i wonder if htc could fix the issue... this would be my last option
however i believe in you guys at xda!
how did you reset your phone?
Did you install the android SDK? Does adb recognize your phone? (run "adb devices", if your device is listed, everything should be fine)
On my win7-machine, the HTC-Software gives me an error message (along the lines of "phone doesn't respond" or something like that) but adb works nonetheless.
thank you for your answer but im afraid it didnt work... i installed the usb driver pack on sdk but i couldnt find it under sdk/usb driver..., however i found some files -> android/android-sdk/extras/google/usbdriver/amd64 -> usbdrivercoinstall2.dll... i tried to install this driver in hardware manager, and i tried to install an adb.exe which i found in my downgrade folder as a driver. but win7 said no driver installation is necessary the "best" drivers are already installed (win7 aint gonna install anything)
also my dhd is found under unkown device, -this device is deactivated because it made errors- "Dieses Gerät wurde angehalten, weil es Fehler gemeldet hat. (Code 43)"
well i deinstalled it and searched for new hardware, he now says the drivers are installed properly please restart however i neither see my sd card nor my devices name (instead unkown device with this little yellow triangle)
btw. for reset i used my android reset (settings -> sdcard -> reset)
It is normal, the HTC Sync turns on the USB debug?
Have the same issue. My DHD can be connected to the PC no other way than charge mode, no matter is usb debugging turned on or off. Tried 2 PCs with W7 and 1 PC with Ubuntu 10.04. This trouble appeared several days ago. Wipe didn't help. Thinking of re-installing firmware, but it seems like hardware problem. An engineer in our service center said it might be motherboard malfunction.
Some ways of solving this problem are described here: http://goo.gl/2eMcP But none of those solutions helped me. If anyone can help, please advise.
UPD: re-installing the firmware had no success - connection with PC failed. 95% hardware problem, will take it to service center.
Guys I know it's a stupid advice, but I had same problems (suddenly my connection with pc didn't work anymore): did you try to change usb cable?

tried 3 cables and 3 PCs
i just found a solution for me : i tried a forth pc (win7) freshly installed htcsync + android sdk + !downloaded! (not properly installed) adb drivers (which i surprisingly did not need) well i plugged my DHD in and he installed all drivers, but never asked for an adb driver. instead he had problems installing 7 different bluetooth drivers for my DHD (???)^^
it just worked for me this way (also worked for debugging mode + load only mode (for radio s-off/hboot s-off))
:|)
well it's not exactly a permanent solution just a temporal way to root my phone, but in worst case i think its nessesary to reinstall win7 on your pc....

[Q] [BootLdr] Computer not seeing Phone.

I am new to android, HTC One VX being my first phone ((Got it like Last year as a gift iirc)).
Using Stock rom and my os is 8.1 pro x64
I am trying to unlock the bootloader.. I went to HTCdev, followed the directions for unlocking the bootlader.
1. Got the Android SDK and installed
2. Got the HTC SYnc Manager for the drivers.
3. Got Fastboot and moved it to where the ADB .dll file is.
I get my phone into bootloader after making sure USB Debugging is enabled, then I plug it into my computer. After a few moments, Windows pops up with USB Device is not recognized. I check Device Manager, it shows "My HTC" under unknown devices. I manually point the thing to where the W8 x64 driver is , and it says the driver is up to date. Bring up the Property info of the device, this is what is showing int he text box,
Code:
A request for USB BOS descriptor failed
Just to make sure, I navigate back to the ADB folder, bring up CMD there and type in
Code:
adb devices
. No device was listed despite my phone being connected to my computer. Tried it with 3 different cords, front and back of my computer. ((USB 3.0 ports.))
I put it in one of my USB 2.0 ports and the issue persists, the device status shows
Code:
A device which does not exist was specified
.
Is there anyway to fix this, its quiet annoying, Apparently doing clean reinstalls of everything isn't going to fix it for me.

OP3 not recognized on Win10

My oneplus 3 isn't found in com/ports on windowsill 10. It's unable to load recovery and won't boot to system. Fastbook still works and has a unlocked boot loader. Trying to install stock firmware to restore the device for se again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Try loading drivers, have no issues here. Also run cmd prompt by right clicking on cmd.exe and selecting "Run As Administrator"

Ok. Thanks. I'll try that once I'm back home. But the drivers have been installed several times with no sucess.
Also make sure USB debugging is enabled in the developers settings and you have the correct USB mode enabled (not charging)

If you have still have no luck it may be worth showing whats seen in device manager when OP3 is plugged in. (Possible unknown device)
Don't have any issue with WIN10 myself along side OP3 but have had numerous driver related issues on other devices with WIN10

here is the device manager
setup driver and try in twrp
A few pointers:
Is this a "home/personal" computer - USB devices can be prevented from connecting via registry hacks and the Group Policy editor ( wonder if some av software could require authentication???).
With Windows 10 you should have native "Microsoft" drivers and no external drivers need to be loaded,
It should be detected when the usb connection is "charging" and you should see/hear Windows "changing" drivers as you change the usb connection to MTP,PTP,Midi.
I presume you've tried different usb ports and if possible alternative cables
If you plugged in the OP3 powered off and then switch it on then it should be detected by Windows before Android boots - otherwise you could never connect a bricked device or follow Oneplus.net flashing instrutions (connect device booted in recovery mode)
Try running USBdview from http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html Note 32 and 64bit versions!!!! The program will show all usb drivers that have been used and show which ones have their device connected. You can select and delete drivers. You can see which drivers have been used for the OP3 by looking at the Vendor and Product Id's (VID/PID) columns . OP3 has a VID of 2A70 and a PID of 9011 (may be others). If you have in the past connected the OP3 on the computer then look at the Hub/Port columns this shows the USB socket that worked.
In Device Manager I would expect the OP3 "out of the box" to just show up under "Portable Devices" as "ONEPLUS A3003" and with usb debugging enabled as a second entry either as an ADB device under "Android devices" or as "ADB interface" under "Universal Serial bus devices" You said that "Fastbook" worked - Did you mean Fastboot? - if so then the device should be showing up somewhere in Device Manager. Try "fastboot devices -l" for any clue.
Thanks. I'll give those a try tomorrow. Just to mention in case I wasn't clear with my info. The OP3 can't boot into recovery. It'll say oneplus powered by android then a blank screen. And yea, I did mean fastboot lol. Thank so for all the info also. I'll post what I discover asap.

One more thing. Connect the phone to a USB 2.0 port and not a 3.0 port. It may not be recognised in a 3.0 port.

This is what I found on USBDeview. There are two other versions of the OP3 on this list. But they do not show as being connected while the phone is in Fastboot. Im unable to access the OS to enable anything that may help with it being seen on my computer.

This is what shows up after the one plus boot logo appears.
I had similar problem. I was rooting my 1+3. I went to device control settings in WIN 10 and removed 1+3 drivers. Next time when i was in fastboot mode windows installed drivers. :highfive:
I used the ones that came with 1+3

I think this thread will supply the solution. "your" problem is at this post https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/guide-mega-unbrick-guide-for-a-hard-bricked-oneplus-3.452634/page-4#post-15169580

Unknown USB device (failed request for device descriptor)

I have a problem.

I have the latest FreedomOS Rom. Since then I can no longer use TWRP. When I start my phone to the recovery the screen goes black and nothing happens anymore.

I've read there is a modified version of TWRP.
From here begins the real problem. Windows doesn't recognizes my phone.
In Device Manager it appear as "unknown USB device (failed request for device descriptor)"
What I've tried:
Boot in to Bootloader
Original (Dash) USB cable
Other USB cable
WIndows 10
Windows 7
USB debugging on
USB debugging off
OEM unlocking on
OEM unlocking off
USB configuration: File transfer
USB configuration: MTP
USB Configuration: Charge
Anyone have an idea?
Maybe it's the ROM. But I cannot flash another ROM because I can not get into TWRP.
Maybe it's an option to flash the modified TWRP without a computer. So right from the bootloader. But I do not know if this is possible. And how it should be done.
You're in wrong device forum. This is specific for One M8 not OnePlus.
For One M8, most of the time HTC USB drivers will fix that unknown USB device problem.
Maybe something like that for OnePlus, so ask in your device specific forum.
Och, I'm sorry. Please close this topic for me. I'll make a new one in the right place.

Help usb and fastboot not reconized

I am getting a Unknown usb device (device descriptor request failed) It keep telling me usb device not recognized while being plugged it. I have tried several things
1. another windows 10 computer worked the first time then same error as a laptop.
2. unintalled the driver and rebooted.
3. also used multiple usb ports
cant find anything after searching
pixel 2 xl 8.0 September update
rooted lastest magisk 15.3
latest twrp installed
stock kernel
recently a fresh install a few days ago because i got it to work somehow but not anymore what do i do?
adb, fastboot, and storage cannot be accessed
Try these steps:
-uninstall previous version of SDK tools from PC
-download latest SDK Tools from HERE
-have a USB 2.0 cable available
-follow these steps to verify connectivity
see if these things help
Unless there is a specific reason you're still on Sept 8.0, I'd take this chance and upgrade to lasts 8.1 factory image.

I'm just spitballing here but....
With phone plugged in, on your pc, under device manage. When you open it up do you see unknown android device? That driver may need to be updated. Also, USB debugging is on, and the option to transfer files? Is your SDK platform-tools up to date?
I forgot to mention downloaded the platform tool for both computers. I never updated because i had root and nothing new was that interested enough to start all over. I followed the steps and nothing usb debugging is on. In device manager its says Unknown usb device (device descriptor request failed). I cant transfer files or anything. I tried updating to the google driver but it said it wasnt compatible.
I haven't seen it with this phone yet, but try changing the USB mode on your phone from the notification; I've had a few phones that refuse to work in specific modes.

Have you tried a different USB-C-A cable just for the heck of it. May have to factory reset and see if that solves it.

So your driver is messed up. Did you use the driver below?

It won't let me install the driver I get some kind of error when selecting it. I was able to get it to work after plugging it in and out. Now that I updated to 8.1 everything was fine untill I got home. Now it's doing it again. I tried 2 different cables restarted my computer and laptop and can't figure out why it was working fine before without doing anything different.
Try this:
1. Go to C:\Windows\INF
2. Find the file "wpdmtp.inf"
3. Right click the file and click 'Install'
4. Once that is done, simply plug your phone and it should work.

I could not get gaps so I used Android flash tool to attempt to go back stock and it downloaded and flashed it but it is now stuck in loop, I reboot to recovery and it’s stock now and it will not be recognized by adb or fast boot,!0plesase help
