Hey guys I've been using root browser for years now and I'm just wondering what are you guys using. I'm looking for something that looks moder but it's straight to the point. I don't like too many features. Also i would love root support.
Although this question isn't Pixel specific..
I use Solid Explorer since ES File Explorer went nuts with ads and unnecessary feature. It's clean, highly customizable but clean enough for a quick use.

X2
MiXplorer
Root Explorer
MiXplorer a little buggy still but very actively developed and free.... you can find it in XDA labs
MiXplorer
solid explorer
Hootan Parsa is the man. He's been updating this app and making it better and better since gingerbread days. May favorite and most used by far. I keep other around for different reasons but I've been with miXplorer since before it was even called MiXplorer.

I paid for and use es file manager. Although there're some features I don't need or plan to use, they are there if I ever want to. I didn't have to buy it, but I used the app for years before they added ads and felt they deserved some rewards for their hard work. Overall I'm very pleased with the app and it's one of the first things I install on my new devices.

Yeah I second that. Solid explorer is tits Magee!
Root explorer seems to do everything, and has a decent interface
I have used many other that have a better interface but they always seem to lack one feature or another.

Use the ASUS one as it seemed to be the lightest, least ugly one when I googled them.
Okay guys I think I will go with solid explorer. I do have a 8 days trial after that I guess is only a paid app. Will try it this week and see how it goes.
X-Plore is brilliant. Best file manager I've used.
+1 Solid Explorer
Solid Explorer also here.
Worth 100% its price.
I've always used Root Explorer but will try Solid Explorer. Any big differences?

First thing i always check on a new file explorer is if it can create files. As i need the ability to create .nomedia files.

I've used root explorer since gingerbread. Lightweight and easy to use.

Hi,
I don't know if you guys already know this or not, but I found this app while I was reading some topics in Android Apps & Games section which works just like Root Explorer but it comes for FREE. The Devs name is jrummy16.
I've attached the apk.

The trick to make the free version to a Pro version is the simplest I've seen and that is,
All you need to do is create this file:
/system/etc/.root_browser
(don't forget the ".")
Re-open the app and voila! you have the premium features.

Pros: (My opinion only)
- FREE
- Unbelievably smooth interface. Way better than Root Explorer.
Cons:
- An Exit button would be nice. Double back works as exit though.
- No Extraction option! However in Root Explorer that option doesn't work properly.
Thanks for sharing.
I been using this program for awhile now and its simply awesome! And best part, FREE! I bought the upgrade version to support the author too.

Yep, it's great and worth buying at that cheap price.
Added Screenshots and a little Pros & Cons list which I've found so far, on the Lite version of course.
Great app and I mean absolutely no disrespect, but I find the font hard to read. Is there any way to use the default system font?
Thanks,
Will give it a try later,
Hopefully using this will stop my pesky Singtel apps
reappearing after rebooting each time!

You need Titanium Backup for that man or you could try Gemini App Manager.

And unfortunately the same thing has happened with this app as well!
Driving me mad this is, can see im going to have to do complete
flash,
Currently using -doomlords-easy-rooting-toolkit on Xperia Arc
effectively a great app !
more infos from the developper himself here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1338582
I am an idiot
I posted all but the trick to make the Free version to a Pro version. Now added it anyway. OP Edited.
This thing was great, now it's awesome
[Still those who like this app I'll urge them to get the Donation/Pro version from Market to support dev for continuing his good work]
thank you.
nice app.
Cheers mate, great app. Just got the paid one from the market... Play store. =D
thanks for the info.
but I think its not working. tried to make the file '.root_browser' in /system/etc. but its says 'failed'.
way round failed to create folder
Hi what i did to get round this was downloaded solid explorer (file viewer app in mp) then used that to create folder.
Just as reference though solid explorer is great for copying files to external sd just having probs physically moving files with it but its safer just copying anyhow incase of power loss.
Hope this helps.
Whats your favorite root apps?
mine are ad away and set dns
Titanium Backup, some sort of Root Browser, AdBlocker, Rom Toolbox, and a Build prop editor
Rom Toolbox Pro is all you need. It has everything (App/Data Backup, ad blocker, build.prop editor, root browser etc).

I found Rom Toolbox Pro to be really clunky and slow. Also the SMS/MMS backup only backups the DB instead of backing up to XML. Meaning if you restore on other phones or between different ROMS sometimes it causes issues. The adblocker was sub-par as well.
Titanium Backup Pro is a must and much better than Rom Toolbox Pro. Especially with the scheduled backups and sending them to dropbox.
AdAway is awesome as well.
Pretty much everything else can be done from an adb shell session easier than with an app.
Mobile Odin and Triangle away for any supported samsung phone.
I liked ad block but it blocks my newegg emails and I like to see the daily specials.

Light manager. Root needed if you want custom apps to use the light.
There is nothing like have a notification light that is fully customizable. It is 100% the reason I bought this phone and getting rid of my evo lte. HTC's pathetic light is worthless and won't even stay on longer than 5 minutes.
Wifi tether is a good one too if you need tethering.
Definitely Titanium Backup Pro, just starting to use Rom Toolbox and it is a little laggy but liking all the features. Adfree, Script Manager as well...
Network Spoofer.
Very illegal depending on the circumstances, but acts as a gatekeeper for traffic on wifi networks. I.E you can redirect traffic on the network you are connected to through your phone. You can redirect people to different websites than what they are visiting. You can swap images out on web sites. You can look at their Facebooks. Anything not using https you have access to.
Have fun
I've got to agree with those saying Titanium Backup. I bought the pro version a week or so ago and have not been regretting it at all. Definitely the most useful app I have.

Yeah I know u don't need root but its an awesome app we all use it.
Apps i love to use:
Awesome Beats
Titanium Backup
GetAPKMarket
1. Titanium is THE BEST!! It has more features than you could imagine. Fav feature is making your data backups in a flashable zip.
2. Root explorer
For fun:
Wifi kill
Net spoofer
Faceniff
Droid-sheep
Mac-changer

What are people using for file browsers which support root? Always used ES but it seems it doesn't work well with the 5x and won't support root, so after some other options.

Solid explorer here
Inviato dal mio Nexus 5X utilizzando Tapatalk
What do you mean when you say ES file explorer doesn't work well with the 5X? I haven't had any issues with it.
The one and only: Root explorer
using AntTek Explorer
Was a long time user of es file explorer. Didnt like their recent tactics. Switched over to Solid Explorer.
+1 for solid explorer. Really like its material design and built in archive manager.
Total commander. Love dual directory views on tablets and swiping left and right to switch directory view on phones.
Been on solid explorer since es added the bloat
+1 for Solid Explorer.
I was using Root Explorer, but is behind for design and not so updated anymore.
No issues with ES here. Not a heavy root user though.
Cabinet
+1 for solid explorer from me too. Flawless otg support as well as support for many, many networking protocals for filesharing. These are essential to the way i use my phone and its the only one i have seen aside from what ES explorer used to be that has full support for everything i need.
Over the years, as new root file explorers get released, I usually give them a try. However, I ALWAYS end up back on the paid Root Explorer as I've consistently found little issues with all the others, that the paid Root Explorer just doesn't have.

Amaze. Works well. Looks great. Open source. What's not to love? I used to be an ES File Explorer guy, but the bloat just got to be too much. I am quite happy with Amaze and glad I switched, all things considered.
+1 for Solid Explorer and it's on sale atm

Ive not delved into rooting since my old phone on kitkat so am a bit out of touch on what the best apps are, planning to finally root DP4 next week.
I have titanium backup pro, flashfire, adaway lined up ready.
Is greenify still worth using as I have the paid version of that on my account.
Anything else for general system improvements etc?

depending on your likes and needs i'd add a decent filemanager with root capabilities. ForceDoze may be to your liking aswell http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-forcedoze-force-doze-mode-screen-t3377694

i agree on solid explorer. i can't say much on the topic of greenify since i never used it. for my case i have found ForceDoze to be sufficient and most of all efficient and easy to set up.
I like greenify still. I also recommend cf.lumen for night time browsing on your phone.
I have to say flashify, ES file explorer, and nandroid manager are a few.
Thanks for all the sueggestions, running Adaway, Titanium, Greenify (aggresive doze disabled), Force Doze (really nice app!) Solid Explorer and Flashfire and all running really well.
Amazing how good things are for rooting now!
Just a question if anyone can answer as i'm a little unsure. Systemless root, is it standard now via cf-auto-root etc? just curious as I wasn't sure if i could try android pay when my bank finally supports it. Ive done the systemless adaway flash
I just got a pop-up message on my screen, about 3/4 of the area of the whole screen, "Apps will secretly download files." And it had a link to play store.
Except, I wasn't using a browser.
It just appeared out of nowhere. And I don't install ANY new apps that I haven't used in the last 5 years. WTF?!
Is ES File Explorer going completely rogue?! OR something?!
Anyone?

ES File Explorer newer than 3.5 is full of Spamware and Advertisements
use Old Version in google to install the 3.5 APK of ES File Explorer, don't bother upgrading to new 4.x version they are all bloatware.
Another recommendation, install Droid Firewall (DroidWall - Android Firewall) from Play Store
I just started receiving this on my android TV stick 2 data ago. I don't know where it's coming from, but I have es file explorer installed on at least 7 other devices and I haven't seen it on any of those. I'd love to know where this is coming from.

It's ES 8-( Too bad I went to Google Play, it still has a 4.5/5 due to the huge number of positive reviews over the years, but RECENT reviews consist of 1 and 2-star reviews due to false notifications, lock screen hijacking, and popups... plus a 5-star review or two from someone trolling and saying "Well, he has to make money somehow" (I replied to these, pointing out in my 2-star review that making money via ads in the app is legit... but ads outside the app are illegitimate spam.)
I just got it on my phone. It's definitely ES. I turned off all notifications while I look for a new file explorer.

Thats what you would wish for. I don't even work in IT.
However I honor a good app by buying it or donating. I guess a lot of people are angry with apps because they want to use them for free but still want full features and no ads.
Best explorer... hands down, Solid File Explorer. Buy it... trust me!

better check what permissions you gave ES File Explorer. They are probably selling out everything you say, type, everywhere you go, your contact list, who you email and about what, what you eat, what time you get up in the morning, if you workout, etc, etc.
I have been very happy with Solid Explorer File Manager.
