File browser for root. - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What are people using for file browsers which support root? Always used ES but it seems it doesn't work well with the 5x and won't support root, so after some other options.

I've personally always fx file browser, its still working with the 5x

I'm using amaze file manager

Solid explorer here

What do you mean when you say ES file explorer doesn't work well with the 5X? I haven't had any issues with it.

The one and only: Root explorer

using AntTek Explorer

Was a long time user of es file explorer. Didnt like their recent tactics. Switched over to Solid Explorer.

+1 for solid explorer. Really like its material design and built in archive manager.

Total commander. Love dual directory views on tablets and swiping left and right to switch directory view on phones.

Been on solid explorer since es added the bloat

+1 for Solid Explorer.
I was using Root Explorer, but is behind for design and not so updated anymore.

No issues with ES here. Not a heavy root user though.

Cabinet

+1 for solid explorer from me too. Flawless otg support as well as support for many, many networking protocals for filesharing. These are essential to the way i use my phone and its the only one i have seen aside from what ES explorer used to be that has full support for everything i need.

Over the years, as new root file explorers get released, I usually give them a try. However, I ALWAYS end up back on the paid Root Explorer as I've consistently found little issues with all the others, that the paid Root Explorer just doesn't have.

ES works perfect.

Amaze. Works well. Looks great. Open source. What's not to love? I used to be an ES File Explorer guy, but the bloat just got to be too much. I am quite happy with Amaze and glad I switched, all things considered.

+1 for Solid Explorer and it's on sale atm

First App for 2.3? ES File Explorer

Noticed today that there was an update available for ES File Explorer - recent changes:
1) update to 2.3 SDK
nice that apps are being updated so soon - have there been any others yet?
Interesting. I got it 2. But I think is for Xmas.

Quick Settings was updated on Dec 06.
Is that better than Astro?

ah yes very true.
Also I prefer ES File Explorer over Astro - Astro never seemed to get any updates and generally seemed a bit dull compared - ES does everything I need it to

I tried it but I found it very very slow in scrolling & opening folders. However I am liking Andexplorer very much.
The sdk is out!
The SDK 2.3 is out on Google, how long will it take to cook?
Not long

Accurate file manager?

I've used Root Explorer for some time now, but it doesn't seem to work right with the Galaxy Nexus' internal storage. If I delete or move things, that isn't reflected when I connect it to my PC.
Is there a better file manager or a solution for this problem?
The app "SDrescan" will fix this. It isn't a problem with root explorer
"Long is the way, and hard, that out of hell leads up to light."
It's an issue with how MTP works. Annoying as heck.
What you see with Root Explorer or any file manager is what's real.
Galaxy Nexus GSM
As nxt said, what you see in Root Explorer is correct. What you see using MTP is not necessarily up-to-date.

[APP] Solid Explorer.File Explorer

Just sending you all to one of the best, if not, the BEST file explorer that I have used. Go check it out!
Just spreading some good APPS as a follower of Christ spreads the Gospel @116: Unashamed

Its not bad, has a nice UI to it. but i still prefer Root Explorer to Solid.
maybe just biased after using it for so long. but if you have never used file explorers before i would say give Solid a chance.......i tried but kept going back to Root Ex.
Good app though
Yeah also prefer " root explorer" undoubtedly the best, but j-rummy's "root browser" has great potential and I like that is has build-in dual browser
I prefer FX File Explorer.

"Apps will secretly download files"

I just got a pop-up message on my screen, about 3/4 of the area of the whole screen, "Apps will secretly download files." And it had a link to play store.
Except, I wasn't using a browser.
It just appeared out of nowhere. And I don't install ANY new apps that I haven't used in the last 5 years. WTF?!
Is ES File Explorer going completely rogue?! OR something?!
Anyone?

ES File Explorer newer than 3.5 is full of Spamware and Advertisements
use Old Version in google to install the 3.5 APK of ES File Explorer, don't bother upgrading to new 4.x version they are all bloatware.
Another recommendation, install Droid Firewall (DroidWall - Android Firewall) from Play Store
I just started receiving this on my android TV stick 2 data ago. I don't know where it's coming from, but I have es file explorer installed on at least 7 other devices and I haven't seen it on any of those. I'd love to know where this is coming from.

It's ES 8-( Too bad I went to Google Play, it still has a 4.5/5 due to the huge number of positive reviews over the years, but RECENT reviews consist of 1 and 2-star reviews due to false notifications, lock screen hijacking, and popups... plus a 5-star review or two from someone trolling and saying "Well, he has to make money somehow" (I replied to these, pointing out in my 2-star review that making money via ads in the app is legit... but ads outside the app are illegitimate spam.)
I just got it on my phone. It's definitely ES. I turned off all notifications while I look for a new file explorer.

That it was ES File Explorer was a total speculation from me. But at the same time, I haven't seen this pop-up since I replaced it with Amaze.

Thats what you would wish for. I don't even work in IT.
However I honor a good app by buying it or donating. I guess a lot of people are angry with apps because they want to use them for free but still want full features and no ads.
Best explorer... hands down, Solid File Explorer. Buy it... trust me!

better check what permissions you gave ES File Explorer. They are probably selling out everything you say, type, everywhere you go, your contact list, who you email and about what, what you eat, what time you get up in the morning, if you workout, etc, etc.
I have been very happy with Solid Explorer File Manager.

Looking for good file explorer

Hey guys I've been using root browser for years now and I'm just wondering what are you guys using. I'm looking for something that looks moder but it's straight to the point. I don't like too many features. Also i would love root support.
Although this question isn't Pixel specific..
I use Solid Explorer since ES File Explorer went nuts with ads and unnecessary feature. It's clean, highly customizable but clean enough for a quick use.

X2
MiXplorer
Root Explorer
MiXplorer a little buggy still but very actively developed and free.... you can find it in XDA labs
MiXplorer
solid explorer
Hootan Parsa is the man. He's been updating this app and making it better and better since gingerbread days. May favorite and most used by far. I keep other around for different reasons but I've been with miXplorer since before it was even called MiXplorer.

I paid for and use es file manager. Although there're some features I don't need or plan to use, they are there if I ever want to. I didn't have to buy it, but I used the app for years before they added ads and felt they deserved some rewards for their hard work. Overall I'm very pleased with the app and it's one of the first things I install on my new devices.

Yeah I second that. Solid explorer is tits Magee!
Root explorer seems to do everything, and has a decent interface
I have used many other that have a better interface but they always seem to lack one feature or another.

Use the ASUS one as it seemed to be the lightest, least ugly one when I googled them.
Okay guys I think I will go with solid explorer. I do have a 8 days trial after that I guess is only a paid app. Will try it this week and see how it goes.
X-Plore is brilliant. Best file manager I've used.
+1 Solid Explorer
Solid Explorer also here.
Worth 100% its price.
I've always used Root Explorer but will try Solid Explorer. Any big differences?
