pokemon go after root - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

I have seen a few methods online that claim that you can play Pokemon go after rooting your device. I was wondering if anyone has managed to get it working on their rooted Pixel and if so how did you do it? I have my bootloader unlocked but I haven't done the root method yes because I still play Pokemon go daily.

Run this fastboot command after you root will disable root until your next reboot. fastboot boot EX-PXL-0.05.img that's all you need if you want root to cheat then I don't think there's a work around until twrp is released

Yes if you want to play Pokemon but have a rooted phone you must temporarily disable it, with the fastboot command "fastboot boot boot.img" or whatever kernel you're using. This only works if you have a computer handy though. And you'll regain root after a reboot.

That's weird I was literally just playing last night with unlocked bootloader just but running that command in fastboot or what ever kernel you use would go in place of the ex kernel I use

When I unlocked the bootloader, it said Pokemongo is not compatible with this software

why not use franco kernel to remove the flag from the stock kernel that lets the OS know the bootloader is unlocked?

Would that work? Pokemon go uses safety net to determine if the device has root.

My bootloader is currently unlocked and I can still play Pokemon go. Personally I'm waiting to root till I can play Pokemon go without having to use a fastboot command. I saw where magisk allowed people to play by just toggling root off before launching Pokemon go but I haven't seen where anyone said anything about having magisk working on the pixel.

Magisk will work once custom recovery comes I've been on ex kernel and haven't had a issue with unlocked bootloader with Pokemon go just have to run command when I want to play

So, we have twrp and root coexisting. Has anyone tried to use magisk yet and see if we can play Pokemon go while rooted?

[Q] Rooting after the new update(10m)

I haven't seen a clear answer on this, so does anybody know what root methods still work after the new update? If they all still do, is there anything I should do differently in the rooting process?
You have to wait till one of the methods gets an upgrade
BAD ASS G3
Well seeing as how the d851 boot loader is shipping unlocked from T-Mobile I think it would be pretty safe to say that once you manage to properly install the 10m OTA, you would simply flash TWRP from purpledrake in fastboot and from there flash supersu.

I used Stump root and mine is rooted again. I had to use the brute force root to get it done in Stump. After that I installed SuperU, TWRP and Busy Box.

Purpledrake probably replaced the M boot.img with the C boot.img. If it did that means your back on the C kernel and if it didn't you no longer have the modded disabled root checker.

You have to unlock the bootloader too. Unblocking the bootloader will wipe your device.
As a rule of thumb, I always unlock bootloader on day one of purchasing my devices. (mostly Nexus or OP so far). This way you avoid potentially losing data.
Or u can download systemless xposed which will allow to turn on and off to use Android pay

root (access) is obtained via apps like SuperSU
xposed has nothing to do with root access - it is an additional framework allowing for low level modifications (like amplify, etc)
unlocking bootloader is always the first step, from there you can flash supersu (which is NOT just an APK file).
there's a number of threads about it that can explain it better than i.

[Q] regarding the new upcoming update! (7.1.1)

Just a quick question, as you know guys this week Google will release the new update 7.1.1 patch. as I rooted my device I won't be able to download OTA update! I already have the TWRP, EX Kernel and I don't want to lose them. Now, Is it possible to flash the new 7.1.1 update via TWRP without losing the root? if so, How?
thanks in advance for your help
As far as I know, the phone won't accept the update with your phone modified.

Have you considered just flashing the WETA ROM 1.1 which is based on the update that will be released ? I am running it with twrp, elemental kernel ON bootloader unlocked VERIZON phone . Everything works perfect. V4A is an added bonus .

Yeah. You'll have to re root.
I'm pretty sure anyways. Root is part of boot partition now I believe and when you flash the factory boot it's going to erase root

V and X are the same (X more for Verizon)...you can sideload no problem
You must TWRP Backup (Untouched System Image + Boot) before rooting your phone frist time
Then every time OTA realesed you
1- restore that backup
2- flash original recovery
3- update system
4- flash TWRP
5-Rooting device
Thats it
We can side load updates while being completely stock?

ROOT on locked bootloader

Hi guys. I was wondering if it's possible to unlock bootloader, install twrp, root with magisk or supersu, flash stock recovery, then relock the bootloader.
I'm asking this because I have no intention of changing the stock rom but I want to have root just in case an app needs it. Also, when I startup the phone, there's that annoying message. Aaaaand I still want to banking apps and Android pay. Thank you!
Edit. Don't try this because it will brick your device. tried, confirmed, bricked.
Nope, won't work. Try locking bootloader with modified system and you'll end up with a brick.

yep, you were right. after locking the bootloader, it gets in a bootloop, and restarts forever. luckily i was able to enter stock recovery and was able to flash 7.0 again. cheers
Back to your first post - you can have root with magisk and still pass safetynet (so banking apps etc will work), but the bootloader has to remain unlocked. Again, I can't go into details as I'm personally not using this, but I know that it works from what I'm reading on this forum.
You just can't get rid of that message on boot, otherwise having an unlocked bootloader is not really an issue.
Btw, even that message can be skipped by pressing the power button again, no need to wait 5 seconds.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
I have an unlocked bootloader and have magisk installed. SafetyNet passes with hide enable. I can confirm Android Pay works. My banking app works, but I'm sure which banking app you're using.
I too can confirm that when magisk is installed and safetynet can be passed, my banking apps work totally fine here in Germany

Magisk is fantastic, not only is it starting to open a new xposed like module repository, but being able to pass safety net and have root is awesome..

We don't even have root access, let alone an unlocked bootloader to flash anything. Someone might be working on it in the eventuality of an unlocked bootloader? But probably not.

Those must be the Exnos variants, all SD versions are currently bootloader locked. With a locked bootloader we have no access to flashing custom recoveries and with that no ROMs, root or mods
