I've created an app that wakes ambient display when you take the phone out of your pocket or if you have the phone face down and turn it over. The app is in addition to Google's ambient display and does not change our lock screen in anyway.
I added a few other paid features for pulsing at an interval, wave to unlock, and battery percentage display on the ambient display.
I would love to have a few beta testers for the extra features, as it's a work in progress. Message me if you'd like a free code to redeem for the paid features.
Check it out: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.compass.ambiturner
Sent you a PM, I would be willing to do some testing for you

Sent you a PM as well. Thank you grokus for bringing this awesome feature to the Pixel! :good:
Stuck at work late today, but the free codes will be coming this evening. And l'll be looking into a few issues where it's not working on some Pixels. Thanks for everyone that had provided feedback so far! I'll keep updating the app.
Happy to help, will be watching for the codes, curious its effects, if any, on the battery
How's this working out? Affect on battery life?
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
Excellent work grokus! The ambient display gestures are very responsive and everything is working great. Thank you again for such an awesome app!!
About 40 codes sent out. I'm looking into something now and should have an update tonight.
As for battery life, I haven't noticed any change on my pixel xl. I'd like to try and test against another pixel this weekend to be sure. If anyone else notices a battery hit, please let me know.
It's doing minimal processing, and sits idle most of the time so I'm not expecting much batter use.

$16.80 is a little steep, but it's probably worth it.
It seems the widgets don't work right now.

Yeah, its one of those products that would greatly benefit from a trial period, with the full version. Let you try everything, just for a limited time. Don't know if that's possible for them...

I made the leap - pretty sweet so far. the widget bar is kinda buggy. when i installed the widgets, they all showed up in one spot so i can't choose which one i would like to add.

few other things i noticed:
-only default theme is available (not surprised here)
-very VERY smooth with neat animations
-takes a little to get used to (i keep tying to swipe left and right on the main launcher screen to change screens - that's not the case anymore)
-for the weather it says i'm in a city 20 minutes away
-hitting menu brings up: add, manage apps wallpaper, themes, tsf homepage (brings up browser), and system settings
-cool animations, kinda like what one would expect in golauncher
-after downloading new app, the app shows fire on it like advertised - however, the fire doesn't animate while in the launcher unless you switch screens. not too worried about this lol.
-doesn't look exactly like the one on the video they provided months ago. not a good or bad thing as the changes are only minor.
-giant button at bottom right is cutting off one the bottom-left-most app. can't see the whole thing.
kinda like spb shell (from what i've read), there aren't many settings like other launchers.
Well I couldnt hold back, I bought it for the 15 min refund time and well, I refunded it. It was extremely smooth. Loved the animations, hated the price. Way too much for something that doesnt give you a lite version to get used to before making the leap.

I’m curious about what impact this launcher has on the battery life.
If you could post your thoughts after you have a few days to let it set in, that would be much appreciated.
Thanks
They are smoking crack asking that much for a launcher when you have Go and other launchers for free.

for today, I took my phone off the charger at 11am, and it's now 8:20pm - I still have 41% battery street moderate use, GPS and wifi on. Compared to go launcher that I was using, it seems it has better battery life. However, one day isn't long enough to tell.

Personally, I hated it. I think it disrupts work flow. Im curious to where they are going to take it.
It would be great if someone took all the current i747 roms out there - there are so many - and made a chart that made comparing features really easy and also showed a few stats, like comscore and maybe something related to battery life.
This could be maintained as new versions came out, etc.
I would like to get a bounty up to get this under way. I'll chip in $25. Anyone else feeling generous?
Personally, I try out every rom as they get updated or released. I'd be willing to do this, and wouldn't even ask for donations. Although I certainly wouldn't deny them ;p
I'll put in 5 for the hell of it

What would be a good way to assess battery? Fully charge, then run everything for 20 minutes and see what PCT the battery is at?

I was thinking more along the lines of a 24 hour run time assessment. It'd be slower but give it more of a real life usage feel ya know
What features should I be comparing exactly? If battery is the only slot I can't complete today, what should make up the other "slots"

I say you have a "24" hour hard usage by running a specific game for example NOVA 3 or any other games thats pretty intense on both single player and multiplayer
Then have an average "business person" style where you only browse webs, email, messaging, social networking, news etc
Then have a "norm" style where you do a bit of both.
This is going to take a while tho lol
EDIT: I would like to help with the comparison for just the fun of it but we gotta make sure we're on the same kernels don't you think and also have more than one person test out each rom and then average the results out for each rom
Adding features that work and do not work would be great as well.

Comscore. Does camera work? Does BT work? Does tethering work?
re: battery. I think the 24 hour test might be inconsistent if you are using the phone to do different things. I'd think a brief sample would work just fine - 20 minutes of watching video with GPS, Wifi, and BT on. But I am not a battery expert.
Every battery test between even "identical" phones will be nigh on useless due to the possible flaws in the manufacture process for the phone and battery.
I would also suggest you ignore any benchmarking scores as they are as close to useless in real life usage as anything you can do on the phone.

Can anyone tell me how smooth playing Ingress is on our Note 2? I've heard it has Tron like graghics, running on top of Google maps. I've downloaded the free app from Google play, but it requires an access code. Weeks ago, ive already submitted my emailing address to request on.
To anyone out there who doesn't know what Ingress is, its a MMO using augmented reality. Where in you need to travel to various aeas and hack, and steel these things called portals. It has a huge back story, and its only open for invites.
Side note: if anyone can invite me, please do. PM me please. I've been biting at the chomps to play this game.

Anyway, I heard playing reeks havoc on battery life. Like it only gives you something like a few hours of game play. I assume us Note2 owners needs some type of power reserve?

you meant the game drains battery alot ? it sure does because you will need to turn on gps and location service using wifi/4g network. thats why i have extended battery which doesnt drain as much as normal battery

To give you a data point battery-wise, I played for approximately two and a half hours going from 96% down to about 5% on the regular battery. That's on a relatively stock ROM, with Songza streaming in the background, and not using power saving mode.
Another player I met with a Galaxy Nexus said he lasted about an hour without his external battery pack.
Update: I've since bought an Anker 13000 mAh external battery. I cannot overemphasize how useful they are to play this game. I managed to play for over eight hours today, scoring over 100000 AP and reaching level 6! When I got home, the phone's battery was at 77% and the external was reading as half full!
It's hard for me to quantify exactly how much time I played today but I was at Disneyland today for almost 6 hours and I played anytime not standing in line and went from about 90% battery to about 25%. I am running Jedi 13 with Saberkernal. I'm not sure exactly how many points a gained today (I am a noob with only 3 days play time) but I went from one bar on level 1 complete to 7 bars complete on level one. There are so many portals to hack and Disneyland so it's pretty easy to gain points really quickly.

Yup, Ingress eats batteries (though a few versions ago it seems to have improved).
Go go car adapter and a driver so you can concentrate on drive by hackings, or even fast resonator deployments if the traffic lights are red.
Any improvements on battery life with the latest version? I am still waiting on an access code from them.
Just noticed that I received an extra invite code. First one to PM me with their gmail address gets the code.

By the way, if you are coming from a Note 3, it's a tough decision. Both are close in power, with the Oneplus having just a slight edge. However, the Note 3 has a bigger and nicer looking screen. Likewise, the camera on the Note 3 is said to be better than the oneplus.
If you like Cyanogenmod then definitely go with the oneplus one! Hope this helps make your decision easier.

Technically any phone does. If this is a big deal for you, you can always download a 3rd party messaging app. There are tons out there that may add more functionality than a stock messaging app does. Gosms has to be one of the most customizable out there. Not only that but you can get golauncher and match themes with you icons
