Is it ok to flash a ROM after i have unlocked my bootloader and rooted or do I absolutely have to have S-Off first? I have looked around and searched and googled first and found no answer to this question. Any help is greatly appreciated!

You can flash a rom without being s-off but you need to manually flash the boot.img file.
check this thread for info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421255
Has anybody tried fastbooting the recovery img into the phone's memory?
Like this:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot boot recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-vivow.img

All that will do is boot you into recovery .
If you use fastboot , the command would be like
"Fastboot flash recovery <name of recovery.img>"

I had read somewhere that if you boot into recovery in the phone's memory instead of from the partition, the recovery will be able to write to the boot partition - so no need to flash the boot.img separately.
I haven't tested this myself, though.
for example htc rezound if you rename the rom name to PH98IMG you can reboot into bootloader and flash the rom automatically. how do I do that? asking because I don't have a rom on my phone (I wiped everything) now trying to get a rom loaded on it

Your Rom can be named whatever you want as long as you write the name the same in the command and Idk if there is an automatic way like that, I doubt it.
This cant be done with roms, only with ruu's and firmware images. You would need a usb-otg cable, a fat32 formated flash drive, and the correct name would be PN07IMG.zip
im so stuck now. the htc resound was so much easier.
im s-off but stuck with no rom at all to load.
I kno how to adb sideload a rom to my phone but non of them are installing.
how can I return to stock?

more information would be nice. I cant not find a ruu zip or exe downloadwith vzw_001 thats my cid I believe.
so I will have to get that ruu and adb sidload it and then install from twrp? or fastboot oem rebootRUU install it that way?
detailed information would be greatly appreciated my hboot is the dreaded 1.56 I am s-off tho unlocked.
You can get the ruu's at the bottom of this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46506621
You can direct flash thru hboot as i explained earlier, or use
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Code:
fastboot flash zip nameoffile.zip
You do not sideload the zip to the phone, but put it on your pc in the same folder as fastboot.exe.

hmm thank you so much. and for some reason encrypted ruu doesn't work? but isn't that like how stock comes from the factory? I would like it to be factory stock to the max. then im gunna just debloat it.
For encrypted to work you must relock your bootloader. Either way you are getting the exact same thing. Encrypted / decrypted refer to the flashable file it self, not the files it contains or how they are put on the phone. Once you do the ruu and take the ota, you will be compleet stock other than being unlocked and s-off.
As the title says I can't seem to flash twrp.img to my m9
I have unlocked bootloader and am s-off it says file cannot be loaded everyone I boot the command

Try doing the following
Code:
fastboot oem lock begin
Now enter all the commands to flash stock firmware then
Code:
fastboot oem lock
So you should end up with something like this
Code:
fastboot oem lock begin
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.4
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot oem lock
Be aware that you can still tell the bootloader has been previously unlocked as normally when you unlock the bootloader it blows a fuse which can never be replaced (I presume unless you replace the entire motherboard)
Okay I'll try that. Cheers
Doesn't work! Just says "still require signed boot.img"

And I presume you have flashed boot.img from an official firmware during the process
If so find another firmware or I don't know the answer
So does that mean i can't relock my bootloader!?
RIGHT! I've locked the bootloader but now everytime i boot it. It says "Your device has loaded a different operating system" it would be great if it didn't

it means you need a signed boot.img so if the one you are flashing during the process isnt signed find another
try this one

There probably is a way but without doing it all myself I cant tell you
It's okay now. I think thanks anyway

The issue is in the signed boot image. you see, you need the official motorola firmware to be able to lock the bootloader again as they only have the signed boot images. :/
Why are you trying to relock the bootloader btw?
Hey all, isn't there a thread with factory images and steps to flash each partition manually with fastboot commands? I've done it before but I cant find them any more, Im wanting to upgrade to 5.04 its just the way I like to do it, can anyone point me the way?
http://downloads.oneplus.net/oneplus-5t/oneplus_5t_oxygenos_5.0.4/
The steps are the same you can find the commands somewhere
