how to change lockscreen wallpaper? - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

So in nougat, we should be able to change the lockscreen wallpaper separately from our home screen wallpaper. and although i barley spend anytime in my lockscreen, since i use the fingerprint reader and it bypasses the lockscreen. i would still like to know how to doit.
i tried doing a google search and articles show that i just change my wallpaper the normal way and it will ask me whether i want to change it for my lock screen, home screen or both. but for me, it doesnt ask me anything, i just choose a regular wallpaper and hit set wallpaper, then it just automatically sets both my lockscreen and home screen to be the same.

Where are you choosing a regular wallpaper? It shows up for me by long pressing the home screen and selecting wallpapers unless I pick the option for it to change daily.

ahhh ok, i was doing daily wallpapers and live wallpapers. thanks!

[Q] Help me turn off weather animations

Dunno know what I did, but all of a sudden, when I go to my home page, I get clouds floating across my screen. It's partly cloudy here, so I know the animation is related to the weather function on my phone. My settings show that all animations are off. I know at one time I turned this animation off, but I'm damned if I can remember how.
I use beautiful widgets and LaunchPro, if that helps. All settings for animations are off, but if I enable them in beautiful widgets, it makes the animation faster.
Please help me turn the damned animation off.
I SOLVED IT! I'm getting better at this troubleshooting thing!
See I forgot to mention that I used WidgetLocker, and therein lay the problem. Don't think I would have ever noticed it unless I had another problem that forced me to reinstall that app.
In Widget locker, there is a setting under Settings => Look&Feel. All the way at the bottom is a drop list for (get this)HTC weather animations. I clicked on disabled, and my problem went away.
Gaah! It's always the simple solutions that are sooooooo hard to find.
Turning off Weather Animations
The other method is to hold and drag your home screen Weather Widget to delete it, then add it back in and uncheck the weather animations box.
This might not be the best method for people that have a lot of weather cities saved.

[Q] static evo wallpaper single screen

Hello,
I am using launcher pro and have my disable wallpaper scrolling checked.
I would like to have wallpapers that just fit inside the one home screen and don't get mutilated by my phone when I set them.
I have tried GIMP to resize the image, but then I get a box to chose a portion of the image.
When I set it, the image gets enlarged to fill the whole screen.
I know, it is probably me... anybody have any words of wisdom?
Thanks,
Chris
Unfortunately I dont think this can be done (easily). I do the same (no scrolling) and always have to get big wallpapers to fit the whole widescreen even though I'm only using the one home screen. You can use multi screen wallpaper from the market. Its a live wallpaper that lets you choose images for each screen and it does it in the correct format (480x800)...
Swyped from my HTC Evo 4G on the MetroPCS 1X network!
This is a really wierd way to do it but I have found it effective. I would like it if there was an easier way.
I use the launcher from the Incdoes Acer Liquid E port.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=811440
The launcher apk is in there somewhere.
Basically what I do is when either sense or launcher pro is up I hit the home button and select the acer "home" and there the wallpaper is fixed. Then I hit home again and select as default either sense or launcher pro and it is fixed. From there you can change your wallpaper and it wont scroll. Hopefully if you download it you can see what I am talking about. It will work until you restart the phone. Then you have to do it again.
Thanks... This is what I find kind of annoying about the phone.
You should be able to have a wallpaper centered, with a boarder around it.... without having the phone/OS forcing it to fill the whole screen and making it blurry.
Thanks to all..
Cheers,
Chris

Lock screen wallpaper

When I try to set the Wallpaper in the Settings -> Display -> Screen display -> lock screen wallpaper it doesn't launch the "Wallpaper Gallery" , it just shows a list of file choosers eg Astro, Gallery...
Where are the stock Wallpapers and is the above correct?
Instead, go to your home screen, HIT the MENU Key and select Wallpaper. From there you will be able to see Wallpaper gallery.

this is just for the home screen wallpaper right, I would like to change the "Lock screen"
Yes, I think this is a bug. The lock screen wallpaper chooser doesn't invoke the wallpaper gallery activity.
Here is a workaround:
The stock wallpapers are stored in TwWallpaperChooser.apk. You can download it and extract the wallpapers onto the sdcard, then use gallery to configure the lock screen wallpaper:
Download TwWallpaperChooser.apk off of the device to your computer using command:
adb pull /system/app/TwWallpaperChooser.apk .
Or if you don't have Android SDK installed, install a file manager like Astro on the phone and copy /system/app/TwWallpaperChooser.apk to /sdcard, then download it to your PC via USB.
Open TwWallpaperChooser.apk as a zip archive
Extract res/drawable-hdpi/
Delete thumbnail images (files <90KB)
Create directory /sdcard/wallpaper on the phone
Copy the remaining full-size images files to /sdcard/wallpaper/ using USB mount (do not use adb push)
Go to Settings -> Display -> Screen display -> Lock screen -> Wallpaper -> Gallery, select the wallpaper you want, click Save. Done!
I liked the transparent lockscreen on the Galaxy 1.
Is there any way to make the lockscreen transparent on the Galaxy 2 (without an app?)
I know about widget lock but I like the Samsung style lockscreen.
How do I get back the original lock screen..I changed it to a new one, need to revert back..
I guess if its a bug , perhaps I'll report this to samsung.
I wonder how responsive they are?

Just found that when the we set the phone's wallpaper to the one as the original lock screen wallpaper, a option pops up asking if the lock screen wallpaper needs to be changed to the same. Once you click yes, bingo you get your original wallpaper..
I've now restored my original (factory set) lock screen wallpaper!
My lockscreen appears to have disappeared entirely. Not sure if I've accidentally disabled it in my travels, but has anyone else had the same problem?
Yes if you wanna choose a wallpaper for lock screen then the wallpaper gallery doesn't show up. It's definitely a bug. But there is a way. Try to set a wall for Homescreen but not lockscreen, Wallpaper gallery will show up, choose a picture, now set it on Portrait mode, not Landscape mode, Set, then you will be asked if you wanna choose it for Lockscreen also. But don't check the 'Don't ask again' box.
This bug should be fixed in next firmware update anyway.
Regards.
Hi guys. I got a quick question about this.
I like the way the stock lockscreen unlocks. ( By dragging anywhere)
However, I don't like the size of the clock and the date.
Is there a way to change the font size of the clock and the date and keeping the way it unlocks?
I tried using WidgetLocker, but it changes the way the screen unlocks.
If there is a solution to it, please let me know. I use ADW Ex.
Thank you.
I can change mine no problem independently of the homescreen. I'm on KF1
Settings>Display>Screen Display>Lock Screen
Thank you. But that gives the option only to change the clock location. Or the wallpaper.
If I want to change the font, it will change the whole phone fonts.
Isn't there another way? Maybe using ADW Ex?
Thank you for the tip anyway.
Hi,
I have absolutely no problem with setting the lockscreen wallpaper.
Going to display/screen display/lockscreen then wallpaper. It brings up gallery. After installing a file manager the popup menu shows different options to search the wallpaper, but gallery is also listed there.

Which ROM version do you have? XWKE2 definitely does not bring up a gallery from settings/display/screen display/lockscreen/wallpaper.
Edit: Nevermind, I can see the gallery option now. The issue is gone...

DashClock. How to make it my default lock screen?

I want to thank everyone on here for the replies over the last two days on my other questions.
One thing I want is to get DashClock as the default lock screen, but I can only get it to the "screen on the right of my normal launch screen" and am unable to delete the default lock screen and make DashClock take over the "one on the left" that is the default.
Has anyone gotten DashClock to work properly with the new HTC One, and if so, please tell me how.
Thank you all,
I haven't been able to figure out how to get a different widget on the "main" homescreen, either. I was able to swipe to the left (to go right) and place a widget on that homescreen, but no way to change the default that I can see.

Not sure I understand your issue. You can remove the default widget(s) on the device by simply pressing and holding, then dragging them off the screen. You can also modify the home screens in Settings --> Personalize --> Manage Home Screen Pages. You can switch which screen is "home" and even remove a whole screen.
As far as adding apps/widgets/homescreens, just press and hold a blank space on the screen and utilize the dropdown menu.
I have Dashclock running just fine on my M8, and use it for Daydream. Only issue I don't like is that to get it to Daydream horizontally, I have to start Daydream manually with the phone horizontal. Wish it would autosense that.

Like everyone else is stating, we can add DashClock to the right, move, edit and remove the DashClock lock widget screen, but it is always to the right of the "home lock screen" thus if I want to see it I need to swipe from the very top of the lock screen to see what is to the right of it.
The "home lock screen" is unable to be "removed' since the "remove" button is greyed out for that, I can only "edit". When I want to remove or edit the DashClock lock screen both the "edit" and "remove" are available, but not on the default lock screen widget.
No one else has bene able to get DashClock on the main lock screen because I can't drag DashClock to the left, and I can't drag the home screen lock widget to the right, even though I can see both when I have DashClock "held down" to move, it just won't go to the left of the defaul "home lock screen" to then make DashClock the default view.

To tell the truth, I haven't figured out how to add widgets to the lockscreen..... I use a PIN anyway so not sure it would make a difference.
Go to Settings > Security > Enable Lock Screen Widget.
Full details...
Doesn't work you can't move or remove the main lock screen. I can edit and move and lock screens I add to the right, but not the default main one.

Any update?
Don't suppose anyone have found a solution to this?
Id would be nice to at least be able to add another widget under the stock lockscreen clock widget.
Not for dash clock but for Nils you can use the floating widget and it works fine

So has anyone figured a way to remove the crappy default lock screen widget? I don't get why anyone would want to use this ****ty one when Dashclock is far superiour.
I still can't remove the main widget OR get the Dashclock to become the main widget "on the left".
Anyone?

Well I bit the bullet and bought "Widget Locker" just so I could get a proper lock screen. Bull**** I have to pay $2.99 to get my lock screen up.
You normally have to go to Settings>Security and allow widgets first, then you can add a new one and delete the original (at least that's how you do it on the Nexus 5)

Eddy, thank you for the reply but clearly you haven't read a single thing on this thread. Anyone can add as many widgets as they want, but they can't delete the default one on the home screen, so we are stuck with it because the "remove" is greyed out for the default. I can have DashClock widget to the right of my main one, but that does no one any good.
It is impossible to remove the default widget, or move it to a position where it is not the default. The only way to get DashClock widget properly installed on this ever increasingly ****ty phone is to pay $2.99 for a program to unlock it.

Chill, dude - I had read it, just missed the bit about the stock one being greyed out, just thought you were having issues making the new one the 'home' one! Surprised HTC have done that, kinda sucks as I prefer to have Chronus as my lockscreen widget of choice...

this is the product of the f***ing Standard clock on the 1st Lockscreen page. You cannot delete it, you cannot move it to 2nd Screen, so to have a e.g. nice Dashclock, you always have to Swipe right or left.
Dirty solution atm for me is NiLS with Floating Panel on stock lockscreen. I would use the AOSP lockscreen with Dashclock (running ViperOne), but it's lacking off DoubleTap2Wake function. And after 1 week, it's a thing Icannot live without anymore
AOSP Lock Screen
I haven't tried this yet on my M8 so YMMV, but it worked for getting the AOSP lock screen on my Sense M7...requires root...

Question I can't edit my lock screen. Please help

So I'm having a problem and I really wish I had noticed this earlier but my z fold 4 will NOT let me fully edit my lock screen, like I can edit the passcode of course and it lets me change the style of the clock and widgets but if I want to change the lock screen wallpaper it won't let me do so unless I change the home screen wallpaper as well. I even went to the setting to go and directly edit it. (In the provided video) And I held down on the lock screen as well to edit it and all it tries to do is unlock my phone. I can't edit my lock screen please help.
