So I admit I screwed up and started the whole root process without reading and studying about adb. What happened was I enabled developer mode and disabled fast boot on my HTCone. I then tried to use the rumrunner root method. It was successful and gave me S-off, unlock and SUser. Where I failed at was just coming over from an iPhone and having a HTC Evo in the past I was not familiar with adb or have I done any development. So I didn't even have adb set up and it left me with my custom recovery. I let a friend look at it that had some linux experience and he deleted my stock recovery and tried to push the TeamWin Recovery Project recovery to my phone. This failed and left me with no recovery at all. I then still not knowing what was going on got frustrated and tried to remove root and just run everything stock till I studied up more. Well I removed root access but I still have s-off, fastboot and unlocked. Since I had no recovery I can not do anything but run what I have on my phone now. I did however do a backup of everything before this using titanium backup. But my understanding you have to have root to use it.
Since my screw up I have studied up on adb and installed everything needed. I have played around with it just without making changes just to get familiar and test if it was working. I tried to use rumrunner again but it fails at the end but does connect to adb now.
What I need to know is can I push my stock recovery back to my phone via adb then try to use rumrunner again for root? Or what can I do since S-off and unlocked?
I admit I pulled an idiot move and will study and learn the whole process before doing anything new.
Thanks in advance for all help.
I have the 1.10.605.8 software version and I'm on Android 4.2.2
You didnt really do anything to your device honestly.. Its pretty much untouched, for root, simply download superuser from playstore, rumrunner is manily for the s off , bootloader. Also head over to original android development section and install twrp recovery.
Use flashify from playstore to flash recovery if you like aswell instead of adb.

First, take a deep breath! Everything will be OK. As digitalbot mentioned, you phone should be fine.
Some clarification first. You do not use adb to flash a recovery, kernel, or anything else. That's fastboot and you'll be doing that from the bootloader, not while booted in the OS. Fastboot does not work while in the OS, adb does not work while in the bootloader. Since you were able to use rumrunner, adb and fastboot should already be installed on your computer and working. Now, understand that the fast boot that you disabled to use rumrunner is not the same as the fastboot that you use to to communicate between your computer and phone. Similar term, but completely and unrelated things.
Sounds like you are still s-off so no need to use rumrunner again. You mention having a custom recovery. Did you install it? Rumrunner does not install a custom recovery so unless you did, you still have stock recovery. To verify, plug in your phone to your computer and open a command prompt and type "adb reboot recovery." Phone your reboot to recovery. What recovery does it boot? If it's not TWRP or CWM, find a custom recovery in the forum (I use TWRP) and follow the instructions there to flash it to your phone from the bootloader. You'll do that with fastboot not adb.
Now for root, verify that you do not have root. Install a root checker from the playstore and check. If you don't have root, you'll have to flash SuperSU from recovery so go to http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu and download SuperSU to your phone. Reboot your phone to recovery and install the zip. You should now be rooted, double check with root checker. Now go to the playstore and install SuperSU to stay up to date.
Not sure if I covered all your questions, so post back if you still need clarification. Good luck!
Thanks guys!
I was able to install TWRP and also Superuser the same way.
Here are the instructions I used. Maybe they will help someone else like me.
Power off your device, then press and hold Power and Volume Down until you're in the bootloader menu. Highlight FASTBOOT and press Power. You should see Fastboot USB highlighted in red.
Open a command prompt on your computer and navigate to your SDK directory. Type "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" and hit Enter.
Then I backed up my stock rom using TWRP
In TWRP's main menu, tap Reboot. It will tell you that you're not rooted and ask you to install SuperSU, so swipe to confirm. When you reboot your phone, you should see a notification that you need to install the SuperSU app. Open the notification and select TWRP, since the app from Google Play only works with S-OFF.
Worked flawlessly.
I installed NuSenseONE max and I love it so far. :good:
Oh of course I downloaded the latest TWRP build and renamed it before I copied it over.
Good work, yeah not really that tough, now accidently wipe your internal storage and flash a RUU, fun all over again haha

booloader locked, pattern bug and no recovery access
Hi!
I just got myself into big trouble. As I wanted to use my 1+3 for work, I wanted to bring it into its original status. Coming from Ressurection Rom, I wiped it, and intalled the original rom from the oneplus website.
With that it also got unrooted. Then I wiped it completely (no backups etc.), but decided to stay with twrp as I thought IT of my company won´t recognise it. But then I had to relock the bootloader. so I used the Oneplus3&3T Toolkit v4.7U and locked the bootloader.
So and now I am stuck here, as it seems I got this bug that my pattern for unlock doesnt work anymore AND the device cannot boot into recovery.
Bootloader is stated as locked.
Please, can anyone help me with this?
Many thanks in advance!
Use the toolkit to try to go into TWRP recovery and if that doesn't work then flash it with the toolkit otherwise flash stock recovery
Hey all, little embarrassing coming here for this, but I'm in a little bit of a jam. I'm new to flashing custom ROMs, and I was trying to flash my first today, and managed to screw everything up in the process. I can boot into Clockwork mod via my PC, and I can still do everything I need to from there, but I was stupid, and didn't make a Nandroid backup before doing so. So I was wondering if anyone here could lend me theirs that I could slap onto an SD card, and recover my phone with. Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: Just so we're clear, this isn't an attempt to get personal information. I will take any backups you have, with or without an unlocked bootloader, with or without rooting, with or without custom ROM, anything. Heck, I'd prefer to have it as close to stock as possible, so I can do everything myself. I just need a bit of a bailout here.
Shameful self-bump. I could still really use some help here.

That's a little hard to do when the device isn't recognized by my PC, and I can't get it to boot into any recovery that isn't Clockwork mod via my PC.

EDIT: Nevermind, seems I ADB recognizes the device with CWM running. Now I gotta see where to go from there.
Now I've encountered problem number 2: I didn't allow USB debugging for the computer I'm using (USB debugging is ticked in the settings [or at least I think it is], but it's not authorized for my PC). So here's the question: Can I authorize it through Minimal ADB and Fastboot?
Triple post, but it's with a question. I'm nearly positive that this whole ordeal is going on because I tried to boot into recovery mode with the TWRP app when no recovery was available. So now the question is, is there any way I can stop the phone from trying to boot into recovery so I can install a proper one?
Turn it off, then press volume up + power when vibrates, release power while holding volume up, then release volume up as well, it should boot into bootloader where you can fastboot a new recovery.

Tried that. Doesn't work. Like I said, it keeps booting into the psudo-recovery mode thing. I can't even boot into the bootloader from there.

that will help you - besides if you are silly enough to think anyone will just give you something like a backup, come on man, I am dumb but even I am not that dumb
Have u tried to boot into Fastboot from your Cm recovery? If not, there is a way to make the stock firmware flushable by twrp or cm recovery. I don't feel like typing the whole process but if u look around the forum for a sec u should find it pretty easily. Once u do that, everything will be factory again.

I have tried booting from CWM, but TWRP overrides it still. I'll look into flashing stock firmware through CWM though.
Here are the steps that got me to where I am.
1. Stock Pixel XL March 2017
2. Installed TWRP
3. Installed SU
4. All worked correctly for the last month
5. Saw that there was a new April release
a. It would not install as I was rooted
b. I installed the April OTA using TWRP
c. Rebooted
6. Saw that I was no longer rooted
7. Tried to go to Bootloader
8. Got dead droid with no command error
9. Went to recovery (Power + up vol) to enter sideload
10. Sideloaded the April updated
11. Rebooted
a. Same no command error
b. Went to recovery (Power + up vol) to enter factory restore
c. Rebooted
12. Tried to go into boot loader
a. Same no command error
13. Problem is that twrp was not asking for pattern And would not install correctly with image file. Solution was to keep loading the twrp image file until it asks for pattern. Then follow standard twrp /su instructions.
Thanks.
Power device off, use key combo (power+voldown) to boot bootloader. Fastboot flash stock boot.img to both slot a and b. Then reboot, take the OTA, or sideload it. Reboot. Now reboot to bootloader, fastboot boot TWRP, then reboot to twrp. Now you can flash TWRP to keep it as the recovery, or just su then reboot. Should be good.

This should be posted under Q&A not development

When you get the dead Droid just hit vol up, no power button.

I think I know where you went wrong you installed an incremental OTA with TW RP. If I'm not mistaken that new firmware had an updated bootloader and I believe that's dangerous to do. You may be out of luck
Why would the built in factory restore fix it?

Can you get into fastboot?
So no bootloader.
Just my thoughts. I don't know if that's even possible.
Isn't it possible to edit the ota script to flash a bootloader?
Or even make a full factory update like this?
To use fastboot you need to be in bootloader mode.

If it is, I don't know how. I would need it to be able to load from Sideload.
Does phone boot at all? To OS?
Yes it does. Only thing not working is bootloader. Without out this I can't root.

Worked for a long time with BDogg718. He generously spent a great deal of his time with me and opened several Chats with Developers and No one had a solution. He is very knowledgeable and really did not want to give up. For now the solutions seems to be send it back to Google and get a replacement. It would be nice if someone could talk to Google, as a phone that has a recovery built in firmware should be able to restore itself. The dual slots seems to be a problem for them as well.
I think I had the same thing happen with me! I installed the update via TWRP. The update installation seemed to crash at the end, resulting in a reboot. The phone did install 7.1.2 successfully, but I lost root and the ability to successfully boot into any recovery. I tried flashing TWRP again, but it failed "FAILED (remote: partition recovery doesn't exist). It appeared to attempt to flash it into slot "_b", if that means anything.
TWRP will not boot on 7.1.2. At least that's the conclusion formed last night in #twrp while the devs were working with someone else with this issue. I don't think they know why yet, but I doubt it will be overly long til they figure it out.

Glad to hear someone is on the case. I will be sure to send a few shekels their way for my clumsiness.
good day,
i have an HTC 10 factory unlocked, i had the bootloader unlocked through HTCdev. i then flashed the latest TWRP recovery, attempting to enter revovery....i cant. i din't get the triangle thingy what so ever,it jus displayed the screen like when you're about to enter bootloader mode. then it would restart after that, almost brick it cuz it didn't wanna boot at one pointing time :crying::crying: .i've rooted m7,8 & 9 and never came across something like that. i can't even flash over new rom cuz cmd is given error: can't open recovery. before i attempted bootloader unlock via htcdev, i tried sunshine jus to avoid the hassle and when it was attempting to give me temproot, it failed....3 times so that was useless, leaving me to go manual. any help on this?
Wrong thread. But sounds like recovery didn't flash. Make sure your flashing to recovery partition. Search thread for toolkit, will make it easier.
Fastboot flash recovery recovery. IMG @download mode
I used this tool to safely and successfully install ROM and Recovery.. Maybe you could try..
Thanks to the developer..

Not sure if this helps, but I get the same type of issue when booting to recovery, except my phone is bone stock.
What works for me is right after the symbol comes up, press Vol Up and Power at the same time. If I time it right, recovery mode comes up. Not sure if it will work with TWRP, since I've never used it.
