Anyone else using Fi with their 5X? If so, please share your thoughts on WiFi calling. I have the setting enabled in the phone app, but the only way I can get my phone to make a call over WiFi is to turn on airplane mode and enable WiFi. The call quality seems so much better over WiFi and I would prefer my calls at home to be routed over WiFi. My WiFi signal is very strong, much better than my cellular signal with T-Mobile or Sprint.
Is there any way to prioritize WiFi calling or is this working as intended, and WiFi calling is only to be used as a last resort?

I've found that my 5x with Fi only picks wifi calling when cellular service is practically non-existent. Still haven't had any problems just letting it decide which to use.

That's odd, the couple phone calls I've made start on Wi-Fi with no issues. I even had one that I started on Wi-Fi this afternoon and walked out of the house and drove away with no drop of the call or unnatural break in the conversation. Really cool stuff!

How about using hangouts dialer?
I was excited to try it but have been disappointed with the coverage... I am frequently in areas away from Wifi and not in large cities and the t-mo and sprint service consistently is less than or nonexistent compared to my at&t S6 edge riding shotgun. This is eastern Oregon and Idaho. I am giving up my FI after this month ;(

I could, but I believe that would mean when I leave home it would switch to using cellular data rather than cellular voice service. That could eat into a lot of data. I'd much prefer to use the regular phone app and have it default to WiFi calling when I'm at home.
It's admittedly a minute detail. Overall I'm also a little unclear with exactly how Fi service is supposed to work. With it being in beta, answers can be hard to find. For example, I thought the handoffs between WiFi and cellular were supposed to be pretty smooth, but I've had 5+ second hiccups when switching from WiFi to cellular calls (starting the call in airplane mode to force WiFi calling, then leaving my house after turning airplane mode off).
I guess overall I'm not sure what to expect. That's why I'm trying to figure out how it works for other people.

I spent hours pouring over this (and also enabling band 12 and Sprint Spark) and got nowhere. Google's being pretty tight about this stuff

What is everyone's thoughts on whether there will be a way to turn on the wifi hotspot on phones that are on a grandfathered VZW Unlimited Data Plan? I think I remember hearing that one of the Nexus phones the hotspot worked out of the box without any special app's (Foxfi) or root. Thoughts?
6p works unlocked, running stock.

I can confirm that the Nexus 6p, out of the box, will run the wifi hotspot on VZW UDP, on both 6.1 and 7.0.
I can also confirm that the Nexus 5x, out of the box will NOT run wifi hotspot on VZW UPD, without rooting and modifying build.prop (easy to do if you are bootloader unlocked).
Reports are that bootloader will be locked on Pixel for phones sold by VZW. I'm not very optimistic that wifi tether will work
I have an upgrade on VZW - which I wanted to use for Pixel, but might have to buy Pixel (or iPhone?) and trade/sell to get an unlocked Pixel, which should be bootloader unlocked, but probably won't have VZW wifi calling available.
I have one on order from Verizon and that's the first thing I'm going to try. If not I'm returning it. The Verizon Bloatware is removable so I hope it's not baked in.

The wifi calling and verizon features should work on the unlocked pixel, just as the features worked on the unlocked Motorola Nexus 6 because verizon sold their version of the Nexus 6 so it should be safe to say the unlocked pixel will work 100% as designed to and on verizon also. Google lists the Unlocked pixel works on all 4 major carriers they never listed that for the Nexus 6p I believe, so them listing it will work on all four carriers should tell you otherwise they would have to list that there may be features that will not work on some of those four major carriers. I would have to say 100% by that that everything all verizon features should work on the unlocked pixel being used on the verizon service, just as they do on the verizon version of the pixel and pixel xl.
Thanks for the replies... My wife and I fell into the Note 7 debacle so we are trying to decide if we are going to tempt fate with the "safe" Note 7's or switch to a different phone and the Pixel caught my eye and something that might be worth having. So, aside from how the reviews end up, I have to have the wifi hotspot since our phones are our only access to the internet in the area we live.
Thanks again!
i have ULD with Verizon as well. i preordered today, when the phone arrives i will definitely post my results as well!

Did you preorder from Verizon? Please update us on whether tethering works with ULD out of the box!

Got the phone yesterday, I confirm that wifi hotspot does NOT work out of the box. I preordered the phone with VZW and have grandfathered ULDP with no hotspot subscription. It says please subscribe for this feature or something.?*
On another note I have read that PDANet wired USB tethering works, I have not tried this yet. Will try this weekend when I have time.

Let us know if it works.
Transmissum est uti Tapatalk ab Xperia Z-IV meo.
Hotspot works, I am using it now. You have to install Network Signal refresher lite, activate it then right away switch the toggle for the system hotspot. This works on Verizon and Google purchased Pixels.

Download network signal refresher... Turn it on and immediately turn on native hotspot... This will bypass the verizon certificate

Doesn't work with the lite version. I hit refresh and immediately goto hotspot, it says there is no connection. I wait until I get LTE back and get this screen

Try tapping the hotspot button from the notification pull down right after you hit refresh.. It just worked for me

8japps is the developer of the app, make sure you downloaded that right app
Confirmed Network Signal Refresh Lite works to get native hotspot working on VZW ULDP
I tried a few more times after it failed and got it to work just like the other poster said.
Press Refresh on Network Signal Refresh and hit you all apps button and switch to your hotspot setting.
Click it and it comes up .
Slow as hell tho, but still works. Useful in a pinch!!!
Check screenshots for proof!!!
Once you get used to it, it takes just as long as FoxFI did on the Note 7 so I'm happy.
I can also confirm. Refresh, turn on hotspot from pull down menu. You'll need to edit your menu and add hotspot for easier access. My speeds appear to be normal via computer via speedofme. Peaking at 20Mbs
Has anyone had issues with hotspot turning off after 15 to 20min . Ive read in another post this is happening to alot of people
Does anyone worry this could be patched by Verizon? I'm waiting for a Google pixel because I can't afford Verizon to block my wifi tether with udp. If I knew that this would work indefinitely I would just get my phone from Verizon
This will determine if I buy this phone, have been eyeing OnePlus 7 for a few months but haven't seen anybody attempt to use wifi calling on AT&T Network.

I just got me an AT&T sim, and wifi calling and all other features such as texting works fine.

Has anyone heard if the oneplus 7t will have voice over LTE on AT&T they dont play nice with unlocked phones and hold back features like volte and wifi calling if its not At&T branded.

Everything works great, including call forwarding codes etc. This phone is basically a turd on Verizon, no wifi calling, and no texting. My plan is to give the AT&T pay as you go plan a 2 month trial, I will forward my VZW phone to it, and put it through the paces, if all works out, I will get rid of VZW and move to At&t.
I found out, while you can enable Wifi calling on AT&T, it does not actually work when there is no network. OnePlus support says that plan on fixing it on a future update. It does however work on Google Fi.
I am still on the Verizon grandfather in the new data plan. Rely on Wi-Fi tether quite a bit.
Has anyone gotten it working yet on this phone?
Anyone?

Meaning? I'm coming from a pixel 2 where it was disabled
Is this phone definitely working on Verizon now?
Verizon data doesn't work, but voice and text works. Speak to OP cs, suggest contact Verizon. I am actually xfinity user, xfinity lease Verizon network, my 7t shows "Verizon".
It's working for me, Verizon gUDP
/system/product/etc/apns-conf.xml go to that find your carrier and enter that apn if rooted. theres other ways too but that's best
Hi, would anyone have the Three UK firmware for a Pixel 2 XL? I have no wifi calling and Three state it is because i bought it from Sony unlocked and not from them. Therefore they can not allow WiFi calling. The only way is to buy a new phone from them!!
Thanks in advance.
I also have a Sony XZ1 with the same issue and i am posting in that forum aswwell, so whatever one i can get the firmware for is the one i will use until i get the new 4XL on a Black friday deal hopefully.
Roy.
have you tried a friend's sim in your phone. Ee support WiFi calling.
Is the option there in your phone to turn on WiFi calling ?

Hi,
No, not yet, but when i updated my Pixel 2 xL to A10 few weeks ago and noticed that I can no longer enable Wifi Calling. To verify I dialed "*#*#4636#*#*" and Wifi calling is not provisioned, neither is VolLTE (greyed out) same with the Sony XZ1.
Try a different sim. I think the issue is actually 3 or sim. Generally pixel phones don't come with a custom firmware. It's not customised by the phone provider unlike other brands.
Other thing I'd check is router settings

Apologies for the resurrection. My Pixel 2XL also won't do wifi calling on Three, yet my wife's Pixel 3A on the same network works quite happily. What gives? Both phones were bought SIM free from Google.
Thanks...

I'm having exactly the same issue. My Three UK Pixel 2 XL (running stock Android 10) can't access wi-fi calling, but I was able to activate it yesterday on my wife's Pixel 3a XL (also on Three UK) without issues. The Wifi calling option simply isn't there on my device.. Is there anything fundamentally different between the two devices which would prevent me from activating it?
