Hi all,
I'm attempting to get into the recovery to wipe cache partition but there's no option.
At the bottom of the recovery it says 'No /cache partition found'.
Has anyone had this issue? Can't seem to find anything online.
I also get the following error when flashing the factory images.
writing 'userdata'...
OKAY [ 2.454s]
erasing 'cache'...
(bootloader) Erasing active slot "_a"
FAILED (remote: Partition table doesn't exist
)

Please show me the way to get into the recovery. I power off my Pixel XL and then press the power key and the volume up key at the same time and nothing happens.

You press volume down and power to get into the bootloader then volume up or down until it says recovery then power to boot into the recovery.
There is no cache partition on the Pixel.
I think it's now located at /data/cache

Thanks for your assistance. I went to settings, data and try to find data/cache unsuccessfully. Is there a way of doing this or is just impossible to clean cache partition at my Pixel XL? I always thought that clearing the cache partition was good and necessary at Android phones. It this is no more needed at the Pixel phone ?

I hear you - I've basically had to do this with every Android phone I've had, mainly to keep the battery in check and to keep Google Services from running amok. I'm sure someone will find a way.

FYI, here is how you do a cache clear in 7.1+...
1. To clear the app cache for all apps, go to Settings > Storage.
2. Select Cached Data to clear all app caches simultaneously.

Yes that's not the problem. The issue is that if you get stuck in a boot loop you need to be able to do that via recovery. But, they removed that option.

They best method here would be to flash-all.bat without wipe to cure bootloop. Unless your bootloader is locked of course. But clearing cache is likely not going to save you from a bootloop...

Yes, that is the best option. My original point was that Google support instructs you to wipe your cash from recovery but the stuck recovery has no such option.

It's interesting, I flashall'd yesterday, with no -w. And my active partition is fine, but the other one bootloops. Have not started digging into it yet, but it is interesting. I did the flashall since it seems like the best way to keep both partitions healthy.
Now I did root the active one, no TWRP, but I can't imagine that would do it.
Still lots we don't know yet. Keeps it interesting.
Well, I can understand that Google change things with the Pixel. After ten years in Android, five Flagship phones, a Google Nexus 5 and since October 2016 a Pixel XL. With this NEW Pixel way of things I'm kind of lost here. Maybe I'm too old, but if you got something good like cleaning the cache partition, I don't want to lose it for another “good thing“. I think that we must keep the good things and add new good things without losing the ones that we already have.
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
You cannot clear cache partition anymore when there is no cache partition at all on Pixel devices.
"On devices that support seamless updates [Google Pixels], Android basically slipstreams OTAs as it writes the updated partitions, meaning that it can merge in changes without first creating copies. An advantage of this system is that it does away with the need for a dedicated /cache partition. It does not exist on the new Pixel phones and isn't likely to appear on future devices supporting seamless updates.
Likewise, the /recovery partition has become largely redundant. Historically, the stock recovery image was used to install OTA packages, perform factory resets, and wipe the /cache partition. Installing OTAs is now handled by the OS, and there's no need to wipe the /cache partition anymore, so the /recovery partition has been removed, as well. Since the ability to perform factory resets is still important and the Android team still wants to allow for sideloading OTAs, a functionally similar recovery feature has been integrated into the /boot image."
The cache is now stored in /data/cache thus no option to clear the cache from the recovery.

There is no cache partition on the Pixel XL. There was a cache partition on older devices, but with the Seamless (A/B Slot) partition mechanics the cache partition was moved into a directory on the data partition.

I only format /system or /data (if need be) before flashing a rom, never cache or dalvik, which are hash signed. A new rom, a new flash, a new /system, has different hash, which leads to cache and dalvik being rebuilt on first boot after a flash.

Okay let me simplify everything for you and you will not need to pay anyone for assistance. All you have to do is initially erase all data and factory reset, then install the new JellyBean ROM using clockworkmod recovery and after that wipe cache and dalvik cache..you can run fix permissions (i did but not sure if it matters.) If it still is stuck on the boot screen then wipe data again, reinstall JB rom, wipe cache and dalvik cache and wipe anything else you can wipe. After all that mine started working normally. If you are still stuck sent me a PM and I can assist you from Atlanta GA and for free!

Go into ClockworkMod Recovery, then Advanced, then Fix Permissions
I had a very hard time doing it too. The first time I did it I, when I setup the phone, it kept having every app crash, one after another. Managed to get back into CWM and try to restore my ICS and it kept giving me errors. I finally read something about a super wipe, but it didn't say it worked for the GNex, so I just did a cache wipe, and did the data wipe 4 times, and then installed JB one more time, and it finally worked. I never had to fix permissions or anything like that. Perhaps your phone just needs some extra wipes like mine.

Hey everyone,
I recently flashed jedi invasion 5 rom to my tmobile galaxy s3. For some reason I can't seem to open my gallery, it tells me I don't have enough space, however, I have plenty of space in both my internal memory and my 32gb sd card. Any help would be great, thanks
What were the steps you took in flashing the rom, we need a little more info to help you out.
Go into manage applications setting and clear app data for anything that has to do with media storage & gallery in the system apps list, then reboot. That may or may not help.

Sorry about that. So prior to Jedi invasion rom i was rooted with some stock rom. I basically went into clockwork recovery mode, i wiped user data, wiped cache, wiped dalvik, and then i flashed the jedi invasion rom. I have actually redid this process over a few times already, still however the gallery fails to load telling me that there isn't enough space. I have tried formatting my sd card, cleaning out my internal storage, clearing my gallery cache... all of those didn't help fix the issue either. Although, when i downloaded a different gallery from play store, that worked just fine.

It is strange... By wiping system do you mean wipe data/factory reset in recovery mode? Or is there another way you're referring to that does a more, for lack of better words, cleaner wipe?
I can't remember where it is under on CWM I'm a TWRP kinda guy. I think Mounts and Storage, and yes is't where all the system files are (the ones that aren't delete-able without Root Access). Like gallery and such. My guess some bad left overs from the other rom/gallery/camera aren't compatible with the rom/gallery/camera you have now.

Simply format the data partition. (once you have to type: "YES", than you are at the right menu option)
It will delete ALL personal files (photos etc..)
Once you've done, you can go to the System settings to verify it.

Actually, you must be rooted, you must then flash a kernel that does not force encryption (or no force encryption zip), Then you format data. Yes, you will then loose your data. Follow the link, it's laid out pretty clearly for the N6 but the procedure for any Nexus is the same. There are a few other ways to do it but for the basics follow the link.

correct, however the OP already has a rooted device with TWRP. You can have root rights on 5x if you have installed a modified boot image. Therefore he/she has to format the data partition only.

It will not work, for advanced security reasons the encrypted device is the standard on Marshmallow.
If you want to decrypt your phone and would like to get a bit snappier device, than the only way is the rooted device. You do not have to install a custom Rom, just unlock the bootloader, install a modified kernel and format the Data partition.

This has nothing to do with root. The only prerequisite is a kernel with forced encryption disabled and formatting data after flashing such kernel.
You don't need to be rooted to run unencrypted.
I'm on ElementalX kernel.
If I backup the data partition, then format it to disable encryption, and then restore data, will it work?

Did anyone figure out how to clear cache partition? I read an article about it but it looks sketchy and I don't want to wipe my phone. I already went into recovery mode like the 6p but the option wasn't there.
Were any options or just the dead android dude and "no command"

When you get to the dead android, just press power then tap volume up to get into recovery. Sadly, I still can't find any wipe cache option. There is only "wipe data" factory reset...which I can testify does indeed reset the phone! If anyone knows how to wipe cache (assuming it's still a thing on nougat), please let us know!

Closest thing I found was going into settings>storage> then clearing cache from there
Well. I am sure twrp will have the ability to wipe cache, so let's just wait for that.

no one ever figured this out?
If you look around the forums you'll see that there is no longer a cache partition. The cache is now stored in /data/cache thus no option to clear the cache from the recovery.
