Can Dev port HTC Sense to Pixel? - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

Since the Pixel is manufactured by HTC , you think Dev can port a fully working Sense to the Pixel? Not half baked working rom.

Wtf!!!! Just why in the world would you slow down the phone with a skin?? No offense but i honestly think that its reasons like this that oems dont move away from skins because there are ppl that still perfer to sludge their phone with skins, i could already see if samsung were to put out a pixel phone or nexus ppl would ask..."can we port touchwiz?" ughhh i wanna rip my eyeballs out
And to answer ur question i think best bet would be to wait for cm14 comes to pixel... they have a theme engine and have sense skins??

It is possible if we find a way to root. By possible I mean it is possible to find the amount of water in a lake just by using a cup, possible but not easy.

My Pixel will not arrive for a while yet. SuperSU will need some changes, but having looked at the firmwares, I'm not worried.
I think it's a possibility since HTC has their hands on Google Pixel software.

Why didn't you just buy an HTC 10?

Thank you!!!!!! Exactly!!!! This is why samsung/Htc/LG will never care to remove their skins because those types of ppl will need it, and compromise performance on the poor device with great specs...smfhhh i swear!!!

Maybe he likes the hardware of the pixel and just wants options on the software. Why did you even post in this thread if you're going to be so negative about the subject? I myself like options to choose from.

No im not being negative but thats the reason we will NEVER see a fully stock android on samsung ever....because ppl actually like touchwiz which takes a hit on performance and it isnt fair to others that would like to experience faster software...just saying

What exactly are you looking to have ported? Chances are the ninjablur or whatever apk can just be pushed to /system/app if you're simply looking for the launcher.

The ROM on the whole is compiled to run on an OMAP processor. We have ARM7, so a full port won't happen.

Most Evo users have a longing for Vanilla Android, because they hate their inherited Sense UI. Conversely, at the G1 board, there is a demand for really great Sense ROMs. I guess the grass is always greener on the other side.

[Q] SIII software port to Nexus?

Do you think it's likely that devs will be able to port the new Samsung apps from the S3 onto the Nexus?

Moved to Q&A.
It's sad seeing so many people put down others who want to do something new to their phones. There's more to life than just having the stock ROM.
I would love to see the cool notification toggle widgets from the S3 ported to the Nexus. Was always surprised Google left out notification toggle widgets completely from stock Android 4.0. I know they never had them before, but all the newer phones have toggle widgets, I think it should have been a stock feature in ICS. And the ones I see in the S3 preview, look pretty darn slick.

Really? You don't think anyone's going to want that Siri ripoff so they can say "Hello Galaxy" to their phones?
Or what about those nifty apps that solve the First World problems of having to touch your screen to keep it from turning off or having to manually choose a contact from your contact list to call them? With innovative thinking like that, I fully expect the next app to be one that senses when you want to text someone in car mode and changes the traffic lights on the street to red so you can text in safety.
Not even Buddy Share? I would think people would want their phones to second-guess which of your contacts most wants to see pics of them drunk and making asses of themselves.
I do like the lockscreen, though. I hope we can get that.
S3 software for Gnex
I think it would be good to see applications such as Smartstay and others on the Galaxy Nexus.
What's sad is that majority bought the the Nexus device thinking they have the option to run.
Blur, Sense, AOSP, & Touchwiz.
Because this is, in fact, a Google phone.
With no locks, no restrictions, and is actually encouraged by Google to hack the living Hell out it (apple u should learn from this).
I bought this phone thinking there are cool options (and there are cool option). I would see one, read, and if i like it, I'll try it. If I don't care, I'll move on and say nice work anyways.
This is one of the many Visions of the Developer Phone. ( It is Right?)
I think it's sad how we don't have a full port yet(yeah I know it's hard but the nexus S has Sense 4) of any version except AOSP.

Sense 4.0 Galaxy S3

Sense4All is team of developers looking to get sense 4.0 on all Samsung devices so we may have more options for our arsenals. They are on the verge of releasing a Galaxy S3 Version but are having problems getting internal storage and WiFi to work. If you are a developer who is interested in helping the project come along further please to to their website sense4all.info and see if you could throw aroung some ideas with their devs it'd be a shame to let the work and idea go to waste.

I came across that site a couple weeks ago and it doesn't look very promising so far. Their furthest along ROMS, for devices that have been out for a long time, are still barely functioning. But maybe if they throw enough people at the SGSIII, they can get something that works OK by the time my warranty is up in a year and I dive into different ROMS.
I'm definitely going to keep my eye on this, because TouchWiz sucks balls... but it's going to take more than just booting with pretty much nothing working before I get my hopes up.
I'd help if I could since I'm one of the guys who wants this to come to fruition, but I have no development skills at all. I hope you guys can get it worked out though and look forward to seeing the finished product.

You are? I think touchwiz is an improvement over sense (not saying TW is awesome or anything, most ROMs have better UIs). I was in a Sprint store looking for a Case-Mat Pop (kickstand) for my phone a few days back, and I played around with the Evo LTE. I was really unimpressed with the latest Sense and was glad I went Sammy for this 2 year go around.

Removable battery, expandable memory, & AT&T exclusive...
I'll admit TouchWiz 4 has REALLY improved. But, Sense, even with its problems, still has a lot of function that's hard to let go of.
Would it be easier to get on the US variants?
I only say that because put the Adreno graphics on the S4 chips. I remember the NS4G Sense ports having issues with graphics because of the Hummingbird processor.
|Trolling with a smile|
Went with sammy for the removable battery mainly. The first couple of days with the s3 without a spare battery was killing me. Ofcourse it was a new phone so I was playing with it a lot and trying out different roms etc and battery went down fast. Plus I still had to use it to make calls and text so I had it hooked up to a charger everywhere I was (home, work, car). I was always afraid of it going down to 40% battery lol. Anyway after getting a spare OEM battery + charger all is well again. No more worries specially when I went out.
Touchwiz isnt bad but sense just looks nicer to me and not having to install extra widgets (twitter, facebook, weather) was nice. Also like the weather lock screen. I miss that.
Anyhow I'm now with tmobile and Im hoping these guys will port it over to all the carriers and not just sprint.

[LIST] How many people missed will wait for an exploit to S-off?

I would love to send my phone off and get it now but that's just not possible. I'm actually enjoying a bone stock device right now. If no exploit comes I think this is the first phone I could run stock and pretty much enjoy it.
I will wait, I am in no big hurry enjoying stock also.

I actually did do the S-Off, and I'm running a 4.3 ROM and I'm not entirely convinced I'm going to stay this way. I think I may return to the BoneStock ROM. Sense is nice. If Verizon would let you remove their bloat it would be even better. I can understand pre-loading stuff but prohibiting us from removing apps we'll never in a million years use? That's crap.

First thing I did was get away from Sense 5. I never gave Blinkfeed a chance, I'll admit it, but I hate it on principle. I have flipboard and only have to look at it when I feel like it. I use Nova and it does everything that I need it to do and more. I have seen every iteration of Sense and liked it until Blinkfeed. I do have a question though; those of you that stayed with it, does Blinkfeed cause a noticeable drain on resources such as battery or data? Besides just being in my face, that was my major concern.
I agree that this is the first phone that I have owned that I am enjoying bone stock and locked. However, I get complaints from anyone I call on Bluetooth (with my car) that they are having a hard time hearing me. I had a S4 with this car and had no issue. Very hopeful that 4.3 and its Bluetooth updates will fix this problem as it is the only thing that is driving me nuts as I can't use the Bluetooth in my car at all right now.
Wish I could unlock and flash 4.3 to see if it fixes the problem

I've got an f-150 with the SYNC system, it has been buggy since I bought it but so far no problems with this device, bluetooth media streaming and all.
I'm stock and I have no problem with it this way. Would I like to get rid of the bloat, run ad blocking, etc? Sure. Blinkfeed is like Feedly for grammar school or something. So I'm using Nova, which I like a lot.
So yes, I'm hoping someone comes up with (and shares) a root exploit. If 4.3 should arrive OTA, that will be a tough decision as to accept or not. Chances are I'll wait a bit to see what develops. Meanwhile, I'm loving this device.

I am still up in the air about getting the s-off or not (at this current time - will probably do it eventually). I love the phone as is thus far...quick, decent battery, and I like how slim Sense has become - compared to froyo and gingerbread...
I am not entirely sold on the blinkfeed yet...it's cool...but I'm thinking it's because it is a novel item.
I'm still locked, I'm also fine with the stock ROM. I would like better backup options, and remove the Verizon bloat. I'd really like root access to block ads. I've also been a fan of Sense, but I don't care much for Blink feed. Right now I'm using the Nova launcher, and it works well for me. In either case, I'm keeping the phone, unlocked or not, but hopefully an exploit will be released for those of us who opt to not ship off our phone.
With blinkfeed removed I love sense 5.
I have it removed by default in my ROM.
you can easily add it back but once you do you can't remove it until re-flash.
it doesn't eat any battery while not in use from my experience..

Make a nandroid of the stock system, then remove all the bloat you want.
When it's time to take an OTA restore the nandroid and do it all over again.

the OP above you was what I was thinking of.

Roms - slow development?

With a semi stable version of twrp and project treble functionality making rom development supposedly simple, curious why is it that we have not a single rom even in it's infancy?
Lack of developers?
Waiting for stable twrp?
Because the minimum price for an XL is 849$. Not to mention all the problems that come along with it.
Development might be very slow. Till the price drops or they have a hardware revision and fix the screen. Not to mention Oreo is still very new.
I didn't buy this phone for development, mines still stock and enjoying it.
I was thinking the same thing, regarding slow ROM development. Kernel development took off immediately and there are a few solid kernel options available. But I'm surprised to see no ROMs available yet.
However, I do think there is some major truth behind the points antiochasylum made. On top of that, root is still in the infancy stage and TWRP is just very recently stable enough to be fully installed. My guess is that ROMs will start being made available in the next couple of weeks.
There is no reason to make a rom for this device. It works well as it is. Most know that by now. No reason to unlock, root, flash, you name it. The reason being there is no benefit. Well we have some font stuff, being able to brick it, and "I want control on my device" things but that is ancient history. Custom roms are basically done.
Stop asking for development if you are not willing to do it yourself.

That and I'm sure some of the devs who will most likely be in our corner don't even have a device yet. Some of them buy a phone based on donations or wait until they see how big the user base is.
Some will come as the stardust settles...
I'd love a rom that gets tethering to work again with VZ. Thinking about returning since I heavily rely on hotspot with my grandfathered plan.

You must have written this on your new iPhoneX. You need to update your signature to iPhoneX instead of the pixel 2.

Lol. You wish. Been here longer than you've been alive. But you are right in one way. I do have an iPhone. Not used unless I need to FaceTime my kids or have a line open.
I have a signature? Hmm. How about " Android since rooted Eris" ? Ever heard of that phone? Oc to 750. Guess the ROM?

Pfft. OG G1!=P back when you had to destroy a SD card to root.
To the topic at hand. I rooted my pixel 2 XL two days ago. Still trying to figure out why lol. I tweaked the display a tad to make it a little warmer and that's about it. Rooting is about control. ROMs are about customization. And what's left to customize? You going to make the phone faster?
OP5 has lots of development. one yes it's cheaper. But two, it needs it. Trying to improve on the camera. Make it a little snappier. And honestly most of the ROMs over there run worse than stock.
Real ROM development was because most of the time you couldn't get the latest and greatest on your phone. So you get a ROM built off the latest AOSP so you could be running the most recent software. or you were on TouchWiz and wanted vanilla. Those days are dead.
I'm sure in the coming weeks a few ROMs will get cooked together. And the hardcore flashers will install it. Maybe it will be amazing but the simple fact is stock Android is so good the concept of rooting and ROMs is more novelty than necessary at this point

You can. I have og grandfathered Verizon plan and tethering works for me. Had to change the build prop but it works.

I'd love a rom that gets tethering to work again with VZ. Thinking about returning since I heavily rely on hotspot with my grandfathered plan.

Wow, so overwhelmed with flashbacks almost brought a tear. Bugless beast was legit. Back when rootzwiki was the place to be.
Ok, I'm done hijacking the thread lol
