Models affected by the bootloop ? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I just received a lg g4 h815, s/n 510.
I've heard that the more recent models are, the less chance you have to get the bootloop problem, what is true ? Is the model of november 2015 risky ?
One more thing, I noticed that there was a problem of electrical connection while charging the phone. I can't even move or touch it, otherwise it stops charging (when on)
When it is off and charging, instead of diplaying the percent of battery then turning of again, it turns on, whereas I know that it is not supposed to do that. Could it be problematical ?
I don't have any reference for it, but I felt it was charging quite slowly, after 3 hours it had only charger +50% (but as I sais it had turned on a few times, so it may have consume some battery)
Thanks in advance for your help

It's the opposite - the more recent the models are the less chance you have that it will bootloop (at least for the next several months ). Model with 603, 604 and onwards are more safe for now whilst 510 is quite risky so I would suggest either backing it up daily or have it replaced if you can and get the one with the newer motherboard.
Regarding the charging issue are you using the original charging cable that was provided? If not then your cable might be loose and also that's why it charges slowly.
Regarding the inability to have the phone turned off while charging this is LG feature and unfortunately you can't have the phone turned off while charging as it will always boot into OS and there is no way of changing it. So even if the phone is turned off when you plug in to charge it will turn on in a minute or so.

The phone will in fact charge without turning on. At least mine will.
Speaking in regards to the bootloop. Mine is a 510 that I bought new in February and it has started to randomly reboot about twice a day. I have heard from others on here as well as on Reddit that it is headed towards the bootloop. I have all my pictures and videos backed up to Google Photos. Everything else is saved in the cloud via my Gmail accounts.
As for the charging. It's possible you might have some lint or dust built up inside the charging port. You can take some tape and wrap it inside out and fold it into to small piece to where it will fit into the port. You may be surprised what you pull out of there. I often check my headphone jack as well for built up lint.

(about offline charging) Actually you can charge it offline but if u discharged battery completely(it shows 0% screen) or it turned off because of low battery it will automaticaly turn on after reaching 5% of battery, you can charge it offline, just turn phone off after it turns on. You can't disable this feature(at least on H815) but there's some kind of workaround

(not 100% confirmed) LG G4s with SN6xx can bootloop either

i heard at least 1 604 and 3-4 603 like and like 10 601.

I have read about some phones with serials with 60x, however, most are like the one in the link, they either dont give detailed info, they have some kind of their own fault or they flat out lie. 60x series dont have chronic problems yet. Maybe it will change soon, but the posts about them are not reliable.

Totally agree.

The reports with bootloop problems on 6xx SNs are very few and most of them are not credible. I refuse to believe LG has let unsoldered motherboards for so long. It's not in their interest to do so. Mine is a 602 have no issues. At least for now it seems the 6xx are safe. Time will tell.

I've a 509 up n running from 13 months, I've searched a lot and seen very few bootloops reports for 509. Best phone ever for me. Never a problem but just in case there's a 24 months warranty here in Europe, so far I'm enjoying it a lot.

Ooops yes I knew but I wrote wrong
I had received aH810 before, and I 've noticed that it didn't turn on but only showed the percent of battery without turning on.
I'm using the charger that was provided in the box, a white one.
I let it charge last night, it was at 9% and I thought it was going to be at 100%
This morning it was at 19%, and after 10-20 minutes of use it was back at 8% (!?)
Now it has been charging for more than 30 minutes and it is only at 9%
With the app Ampere, it shows 4000 and more mA then drops to 50mA. Last time I tryied it even went to 10 mA. The phone is in plane mode, no wifi, no background app (or if there are I can't see them)
So it charges very slooowlyyy and it discharges very quickly ? (I think 10% lost in 15 minutes of game is too much isn't it ?)

As I said the H810 did, but not the H815. I don't know it is normal or a problem
The charger is brand new.. I don't think there could be anythinh in it...
I'm actually really really disapointed, when I used it yesterday I've found it awesome, but if I need 3 days to charge it ..... :'( (8 hours -> 10% : 100% -> 80 hours)

Do you want to try any other chargers if you have at home? Also have you considered doing factory reset and see if that resolves the problem? If you are going to do factory reset do backup everything you can.

I don't have other LG wires/cables, but maybe I'll find a usb wall plug somewhere.. I just did the configuration yesterday, I don't think that doing it today will change anything ?
Anyway, I need 30% to do a factory reset so I might be able to do it this evening or tomorrow
Now it is at 11%, it has been charging for 1h45
Edit :
It still doesn't charging. I tryied with a different wall charger, and tryied by connecting the USB cable to my PC, still not working. So what is it left ?
-problem with the cable ?
-problem with the battery ?
-problem with the software ?
Is it worth if I buy a new battery in order to see if it works ?

Remove the backplate and battery. Underneath the battery is a tag with the SKU, IMEI and Serial Number. The the first three S/N numbers are what you want.

The first number indicates the year it was manufactured- 5xx numbers are 2015 models, 6xx are 2016 and 7xx are 2017. The second and third numbers are the month they were manufactured, ranging from 01 (January) to 12 (December). My original G4 was a 510 model (October 2015), and the replacement they sent me after it bootlooped is a 701 (January 2017).
Note that this topic is quite old and i'm not comfortable assuming 6xx models are safe. Defective devices can take a long time to bootloop. Some do it in months, others take years. It was initially believed that 510 models and later were safe, but that turned out not to be true. My 510 failed after a year and a half. Then it was believed 6xx models fixed the problem. But there are also now a few reports of 6xx models bootlooping as well, especially on the G4 subreddit. Whether or not this will become commonplace, I don't know.
You probably won't see as many reports of failure on 6xx or 7xx models anyway. Simply because many people have moved on to other devices by now.

Also it's on the box

[Q] USB/Battery Charging Bug

Alright XDA, checking if anyone else has got this issue?
Bought the galaxy nexus almost three weeks ago, everything was fine with the phone until last week thursday. My battery was running low so I decide to charge it, only to find that it wasn't charging. I took out the battery and put it back in, still wouldn't charge (or at least it didn't say it was charging). I left it in the charging plug whilst the phone was turned off, hit the power button and the black charging screen comes up. I turn it back on to see that the battery is at 44%, after being at 12% 5 minutes ago.
Anyway, ever since then the phone hasn't been charging right. I plug it into the charger, and it doesn't recognize that its charging, or maybe it actually isn't? It takes a while for it to recognize that it's plugged in, and takes a while to actually start charging. I unplug the phone after it's finished charging and is at 99%, only for the battery icon to display that it is still charging.... it's constantly changing from charging to not charging even though I'm not doing anything.
I got the battery indicator app and that would display that the battery has been discharging since say 1 o clock in the afternoon, yet I took it off the charger at 9 o clock in the morning,
Furthermore, I'm now trying to charge it through my computer and put some music on my phone, but my computer won't even recognize that anything is plugged in even though it is quite clearly charging through the computer. (have had to plug it in and out several times, and sometimes it'll recognize that its there...)
is the USB plug ****ed? should I just send it back? I would go to my provider to get a new one from them as I still have warranty and thing, but they will only accept returns within the first 7 days of purchase. Otherwise that leaves me with sending it to samsung which is my last resort because they'll probably take their sweet time getting the phone back to me and I'm going to leave the UK for 4 weeks next week and I really want to take my nexus with me instead of risking it not coming back before I leave.
Have you tried a different USB cable?

Yes, I've tried the original charger, a blackberry charger, USB cable from original charger through computer, and another micro-usb cable. All have the same problem with recognizing that its plugged in/charging... And now funnily enough it's unplugged from my computer but it's still saying it's connected as a media device.
Don't power up or turn off samsung devices with the USB connected. It messes up the battery stats. I've had the same thing happen to me before on the Nexus S. Since then I learned not to do that on my phones.
I don't know anything about your other charging issues though.
edit: you could always try a factory reset (which will wipe the whole device) to make sure it is not software related.

Interesting about the Nexus S, trying to track back if I unplugged or powered up the phone with USB in...
I just tried factory reset - still showing up that the battery is charging even though it isn't plugged in
Hi, I have the same problem since the 7th of December, first i thought an app or some sync was eating up the battery (i updated G+ and facebook the previous day) but then I noticed that it was not charging, now my GN is dead. I manage to turn in on when is on the charger a couple of times but now not even that. (I have used several chargers and usb cables with no luck)
Did you manage to solve the issue? I sent mine today to Samsung after trying to get a replacement from Phones 4 u.
Possibly chip in battery is bad? Havent confirmed but supposedly we have fuel gauge chips.

Iv had this problem twice now.....
it wouldnt charge past 12%, it would not show the charging symbol.... i shut off the phone (it seems to charge while the phone is off).. after 5 minutes, i turned it on and the phone was at 65%?
I tried to tell the guy at the verizon store and he would not do anything about it unless he could see the problem happen.... this doesnt always happen and its annoying as hell...
im thinking it is a software issue since it charges fine while the phone is off...

I was looking for a cause/solution as to why my battery life reporting seems so erratic, I will definitely take this advice and see if this might be why. So it should be ok if I only connect and pull the charger with the phone already on? What if I plug the charger in with the phone completely off and then pull it before booting, is that alright too?
It's funny all the new rituals you need to learn to get around the quirks of a new device (like having to turn the screen off and then back on again after docking my Nexus One if I wanted the touchscreen to work right haha).
I've been having strange issues with my Galaxy Nexus and charging for the past few weeks - I can't seem to get it to charge over 50-60%. Also, whilst it's 'charging', the 'Battery' details page reports 'Discharging' or 'Not charging', even though there is a charging icon in the status bar?
I left it to charge for around 9-10 hours last night, off the mains charger, and it only got to ~45%...
...as I mentioned, whilst it is charging, it never reports that it's charging. The lock screen also suggests to 'Connect your charger'...
...charging whilst the handset is off still results in a half charge. I've tried many different chargers/cables with no luck.
Strangely, I used to be able to only charge the handset off of USB, to 100%, but I've now lost that 'work around' :-(.
I guess I'll phone Samsung returns and see what they say. I'll post their response, in-case anyone else hits this issue.
---------- Post added at 10:50 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:12 AM ----------
Looks like they're sending me a jiffy bag to return it to them...
hmmmm, sounds broken
Mine is charging OK.
My biggest problem is that even when I have my charger unplugged, the icon is still showing that it's charging.
Look at the screenshots, the battery level is going down the whole time because I'm not charging it but it's showing a bar for charging at the bottom.
And if you look at the time on the clock, a few minutes go by and it still says 38 seconds on battery.

Nope
Have to back my phone up in the next few days and send it back for repair/replacement.
It takes ten days, but if you haven't sent it back by then, I'll let you know what they say the problem was.

Invalid Battery Error With Genuine Battery

Hi All,
I have a LG G3 that I OTA updated to SEA 20c last week (second lollipop update). Since then, when I rebooted I have been getting "Invalid Battery" error with the genuine Battery that came with the phone. It was working fine until that OTA update. Since then I have factory reset the phone. Changed the battery to a brand new genuine LG battery. I don't have warranty on my phone because it wasn't bought in my country of residence.

Sometimes it will shutdown with this screen and other times it will just crash and try to reboot.
At random times while booting up their is this blue screen
Any help in this matter will be much appreciated. Is there a way to go back to an older version of lollipop?

Batteries are covered by warranty
Just take it into the place where you got it or your local LG Service Center and they should replace it for free
Nope no solution. I even bought a brand new battery and still having the same issue. Even downgraded still the same issue. What I was told is it is a Power/Battery Kernal Panic that is causing this issue. But not been able to find and solution. Mine is not covered under warranty and the service centre won't service it because it was bought from another country.
check if the battery pins are pushed down. I have the same problem recently and was able to solve it by aligning the battery pins

The phone doesn't stay on long enough to update. I even downgraded that didn't help either.
Have you tried re calibrating the battery by charging to full with the phone off?
taken from the web.....
What does it mean to calibrate a smartphone?
The Android operating system has a setting called Battery Stats which indicates the battery capacity, when it is full or empty. The problem is that it sometimes become corrupted and starts displaying data that isn’t real, which causes the phone to turn off before reaching the 0%. The process of calibrating the battery would correct the information.
How to calibrate Android device battery without root access
Method 1
First you must check the capacity of your battery, which you can see on the battery or by searching for its specifications on the internet. Check our hardware section for your device.
Install an application called Current Widget: Battery Monitor:
This application will show the battery charge in milliamps (mAh). Charge your smartphone for the duration of time needed until you reach the total milliampere amount indicated for your specific battery.
When the required amount is achieved, turn off the phone and restart it. The battery will now be charged to 100 % and in theory shouldn’t cause any more problems.
Method 2
Fully charge the battery with the phone on and when the phone is fully charged, unplug the charger and turn it off.
When your phone is off, plug it into the charger and let it charge to 100% again. The green LED light will indicate when this is done.
Next unplug the charger, turn on your phone and set the option to ensure that your screen doesn’t turn off, if you have this option. Then reconnect to the charger and wait for it to charge again to 100%.
Once loaded to 100%, unplug the charger again and do not load until the smartphone turns itself off after reaching a 0% battery level. Once off, fully charge it again and it should work properly. The screen setting can put back to normal again (meaning turn off after a certain amount of time).
i fix the problem , micro sim card push out the battery , I cut the micro sim little bit more and I fix the problem !

Once loaded to 100%, unplug the charger again and do not load until the smartphone turns itself off after reaching a 0% battery level. Once off, fully charge it again and it should work properly. The screen setting can put back to normal again (meaning turn off after a certain amount of time).

Problems charging watch when switched off - overheating

Hi!
I bought my Sony Smartwatch 3 about two months ago. I've always updated the watch and now I'm on the latest build MWD49B.
I don't know precisely when the problem started, but for sure also before updating to the latest build it already showed it.
Basically if the watch is turned off it won't charge and it'll overheat a lot. I mean it maybe charges at an absurd rate, like from 60% to 100% in about 4 hours.
I tried changing charger (1A and 2A) and charging cable, but it doesn't change. It's like stuck in some way. The funny thing is that when it is stuck in this state if I turn it on (with the same chargers and cables) it starts charging fast (normal charging times) and funny enough it gets colder than when it's turned off charging (I mean slightly hot but colder than when it's stuck).
Do any of you has this problem?
Could it be a SW problem too or just HW? I haven't tried to reset it yet, but would rather lose time in resetting it and reinstalling all my stuff than losing time in the RMA process and waiting time to have it repaired, even because thinking of running without it makes me feel already mad!
I also have MWD49B and I'm charging my watch with (AFAIK) a charger which was bundled with Xperia PLAY docking station. Its output is around 500mA. Sometimes I was charging the watch with EP880 charger (output 1,5A) and I was charging it with BlitzWolf charger (output 2,4A). I've never had any problems with overheating and I pretty much never turn off my watch even when charging.
The problem is that some watches (especially the fresh ones from 2014 with glossy grey cap on microUSB port, not the full rubber ones like my watch have) might have faulty battery. If it overheats, charges 4 freaking hours... well it's REALLY long... my 500mA charger charges my watch up to one hour and I have no problems at all...
If you still have warranty, I'd suggest returning the watch, this overheating might be dangerous.
Hi!
Thanks for the answer.
My watch is from an April 2016 batch (written on the box), and it's one of those with the rubber cover on the charging port.
Just to be clear, if I charge the watch when it's ON, I don't have any problem and it is charged in less than one hour, the overheating problem and non-functional charging is present only when the watch is switched off and it is charging.
Me too...
I bought my Sony Smartwatch 3 about one years ago...
Whan I first charge it from PC's USB port , the same problem with you..
I don't know why...even I reset watch , it's the same...
So..I always charge the watch when it's ON...

I have the same, "new" batch, with rubber cover on USB port.
I'm not sure if I missed some of your text from the original post or you edited it. I'm talking about switching the watch on so it does not overheat.
I've noticed my watch behaves exactly the same! If it's turned off and charging - it's hot like hell and not even fully charged after two hours and if turned on and charging - cold and fully charged after like... one hour.
Strange because on earlier Android Wear builds everything was ok.
Same over here.
But I didn't try charging it while it is running.
But when it's off, it only charges up to 75% and gets insanely hot. Then, when used it drains normally until around 50%. After that, the battery dies within 1-2h
I also never had any issue with the battery before the last update.

I've had this exact problem. One thing I discovered is the battery will stop charging when it reaches a certain temperature. Try placing a fan to blow directly on it while it's charging. This has worked for me.

Same problem here.
I've got the SW3 of 2015 vintage (it does have a cover over USB - I thought they all did?)
Since updating, if watch is off while charging it gets very hot, charges very slowly and never to 100%.
The solution is simple enough - charge it while OS is running.
If the watch is out of juice: Start charging, let it get enough to boot and then again allow it to complete charging with Android Wear running. Then charges normally (about an hour) and doesn't get hot.
My feeling is this is a software issue too. I'm running M1D63G.
Since we all know batteries don't appreciate getting cooked, I'm wary of leaving it charging for long when off, I'm betting it will cause battery damage eventually.
Conspiracy theorist's might even suggest it's Sony's way of ensuring our SW3 batteries die, so we're ready to update to the SW4 - I'm not that cynical.
Hello everyone, here's the matter don't know where to ask it so this thread is similar...
I have 2 Sony3 watches, one with screen partially broken and the second I got it secondhand with a charging base made by the previous owner.
The watch that came with the charge base it always has the charge icon on screen even if it's not charging, sometimes if i reboot it dissapears but most of times it STAY :/
if i turn off watch vibrates and start "charging" all alone without connecting it so i don't know what to do with that cause it obv drains battery and its never really off...
Second thing, my old watch with broken screen worked well since i plug it into that base.... then is doing the same as the other watch, charging forever without charger seems like the base charge illness has affected my old watch too... XD
So pleaaase anybody know something about this? i've restarted them several times and with pcCompanion and the icon remains maybe a custom rom will solve or is hardware issue?
I am using may sony smart watch 3 for long time and i kept it for some month after then i carry it and begin to charge it but it will only show sony and then will not proceed i kept it again after i carry it i plug the charger and it only vibrate
This watch needs to be recalled or have an emergency firmware update. My smartwatch 3 overheated while plugged in overnight and melted apart. Thankfully it was on a metal computer case and not some paperwork. This annoyance has become a real safety issue. It's a shame because I loved this watch otherwise.
Just a general FYI to all of you, use a USB Port or a charger that charges slow and always turn it on when you charge it.
Our watch is really different compared to anything nowadays. It shouldn't but still charges faster than it (should) be allowed.
My Watch is still with it's first Battery and it holds for at least a day, just be careful

General Wireless Charging - No Longer Working

Has anyone had the problem where wireless charging just..... Stops working? Completely?
Phone charged fine wirelessly for a few days, then this morning I woke up and it had stopped at exactly 70%.... Strange, I thought maybe it got bumped or something at some point ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Fast forward to this evening and the phone will no longer charge on any of the wireless chargers I own. I've restarted, checked settings, etc. The phone doesn't detect when it is placed on a Qi charger now, it's just as if I set it down on any other surface.
I saw a few Reddit threads with people running into this but nothing conclusive or comprehensive. Someone posted that they were in touch with Google support and that they are aware of the issue and claim a fix is on the way "soon".
It doesn't *sound* like a hardware issue, but wtf, why would that functionality just totally stop working at random? I really don't want to try a factory reset but... I may just do it for science.
I have not had this problem...yet.
Been a few days now, anyone else having this issue? Driving me nuts

Did yo utry the reset yet? You have to try the reset device to rule out software problem. If it persists, then it's entirely possible that a chip or component failed.
I had the Soli chips go bad within a month of getting my 4 XL and I had it replaced under warranty. You shouldn't have to put up with no wireless charging - that's a key functionality. I would let Google replace your P6P.

Yeah..... I factory reset today and it still doesn't work at all. Time to start the replacement process. Bah humbug :-/?
Please post an update if a software solution presents itself, like if Google provides a fix before you RMA. I don't own a wireless charger, it's mad sketchy to read this and not be able to test mine
I never had any problems with my wireless chargers. It should also be noted that the phone doesn't charge full on purpose if you have adaptive charging enabled (you need a wake up timer for that).
But since NONE of your wireless chargers work anymore - AND you did a factory reset, it sounds like a hardware issue.
Wtf. Just after a couple days of owning the device.
Go RMA.
---
In case this is a compatibility issue, can you tell us which chargers you used? Name, model?
Maybe this will happen again. You never know.
Mine will, on occasion, charge for part of the night and then decide to stop at some point. I'm pretty sure I'm not moving it in my sleep, since I don't sleep that soundly.
I did notice for the first time last night, though, that it finally decided to enter the "adaptive" charge cycle where it does the "full by alarm time" thing - which was cool.
Thankfully, I generally still have about half battery left at the end of the day, so even if it isn't charging to full for me it's not a huge deal. That, and working at home helps too.
So it's pretty interesting, there are a non-trivial number of folks on Redit with this issue.
Battery share does not work either.
After effing around for a few days the phone now actually recognizes that it is on a wireless charger again, but, it never charges. In battery settings it simply states "Connected, not charging" and FREAKS OUT, that message flickers on and off crazy fast.
So..... I guess this is better than not recognizing a charger at all? Lmao.
As for brands I'm using, the Iniu 15w charger on Amazon, I've tried the og Pixel stand and a couple generic pads. All of these charge my other devices without issue, it's just the Pixel that won't work still.
I am likely going to rma this weekend. I got super excited when the random update dropped the other day but it didn't fix my charging issue.

The one time my phone stopped wireless charging in the middle of the night (at exactly 70%) was the last time it ever wirelessly charged. So weird that it worked just fine for several days.
I feel like it's a tossup between a hardware issue and software/firmware at this point. Either way, it sucks!

Did you contact Google about this? (not RMA, simply "I have problems with that, can you help me with that?") - maybe it's just Google being Google and sabotaging third party wireless chargers. I have one small 5 Watt charger and it works.
It might be worth a try for you to get ahold of a Pixel Stand charger (1. Gen or sth) and see if that resolves your issues (maybe a friends?) - or, of course, just RMA it.
Now this issue has hit my phone, a Pixel 4, see here!

Question P6P stopped wireless charging

Sorry if this has been asked but could not find it with search.
Worked perfectly with a 30W USB-C Power Adapter by ULTRANET, USB C Charger Block, PD GAN+ and most of teh time through a no-name 30W wireless stand since the day I got the phone in October.
Suddenly, last night I saw on the lockscreen while on the no-name charging stand "21 hours until full", so I restarted and then it was fine (1 hour until full or something.)
Then I started getting pop-up messages that 'Pixel Stand has stopped working - close app, report" but I don't use a Pixel Stand.
I've had the same cheap wireless chargers that still work fine with an iPhone 11 but go intoi blinking error mo9de when I try to charge the P6P.
Lastly, in Battery Settings, when I set it on teh charger, it says "charging wirelessly" for a few seconds then instantly changes to "Connect, not charging"
I tried Google support but they only said try it in Safe Mode (it was the same issue)
Running latest Secuirty Update
Any help or ideas much appreciated

Thanks, but didn't work. I followed your steps exactly and stillk does same behavior. I put it on a charger and the screen "flashes" the percentage full, but never starts charging.. STill says, "connected, not charging"

Yeah that should be it. Try updating the app or rolling it back to factory version if you have those options. Double check any settings for it.
If it started right after an update... you know the deal.
Does the charging port charge normally?
Is the battery in good condition with good capacity?

I went through all the user options and cleared cache. No option to replace w/ factory version but I even disabled the app and it makes no difference - even disabled, it still flashes the percentage on the screen and the cradle shows that it is charging something (this cheap stand has blue/red LEDs to show charging or not) and the Battery Settings still shows that weird "Connected, not charging" as the status. The charger and stand are known - good. It immediately starts charging an iPhone 11 and it always worked normally with the P6P, case or not.

No. Totally babied phone.
Unless the phone was updated or a new app installed or an existing app uninstalled, then the firmware may have become corrupted or a possible hardware failure.
The other alternatives are likely more trouble than they are worth; factory reset or if that fails reflash it or have it repaired.
For now I would simply cable charge it, it's better for the battery anyway.
It may resolve itself or the reason may become apparent sometime in the near future. Many times fixes are found with time if it's software issue. Many times it is. A couple took me days to track down some others longer. This isn't a critical failure just an inconvenient one.
It's a know issue and there is even an issue created o issuetracker: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/219023770
I've read a lot of reports on Reddit but no one has found a solution.

I could be wrong about the size and what it was. I thought I had taken the March update before I started troubleshooting and I know for sure that I checked it again during the problems and that it said I was up-to-date - that's why I was surprised when a pop-up for another update appeared and I just clicked install & restarted without really reading what it was.
However, I had also disabled Pixel Stand app (and it's still disabled) because I was getting those notifications that "Pixel Stand has crashed" (because I don't use a pixel stand) so I'm not sure what or either of those things had any connection to the problems w/ charging.
It's also possible that Google is deliberately sabotaging non Pixel stand wireless charging via Software. If you can get your hands on a genuine Pixel Stand (1 or 2) from a friend or family, that might be worth a try to see if it solves your issues. Not to say that you should use it, just to see if Google might be the culprit here instead of a hardware failure.

That's exactly what I was suspicious of! I have been using the same, crap genric charging stand since day-one w/ my P6P and it always worked perfectly. And yes, I'm trying to find a real Pixel Stand to test with.
I've been using a Belkin BoostCharge Wireless Charging Stand (10 watts) thatI got for my Pixel 3xl 3 years ago, with my new P6P with zero problems. The Belkin was "made for Google" certified, so not a generic knock off. Amazon

Point is, my cheap, USD 6 stand that I've had for years worked great with my P6P - sideways or upright - worked perfectly AND with a case with a metal plate for magentic holder. My P6P charged happily on an even cheaper charging plate I keep near the front door and an even cheaper one with one of those chargers built-in to the base of desklamp. The P6P charged fine on all of those devices, then it stopped charging on all of those devices.
And now it does charge fine on all those chargers all of the sudden again after taking two kinds of OTA updates and diaabling the Pixel Stand app, so it seemes to be a software issue, not a charger or hardware issue AFAIK.

ya, Usually can't go wrong with Belkin. I use a generic 30W charging stand (using a separate 30W power supply) I bought from Ali Express years ago for $5.99 that is a champ. Has worked great since my Pixel 3 and works great with my P6P. I do use a really good power supply though for the P6P - the one mentioned in my OP. I did the math and it was cheaper to buy the good power supply that seemed to have the exact same features as the Pixel Stand, but at half the price, but only because I already had the stand I was talking about. It turned out to be fine .

Depending on the wireless charger being used, wouldn't it be better for the battery? For example, the Samsung wireless charger I use only outputs about 400 mA, whereas all the wall adapters I own output 1000, 2000, or 5000 mA. While charging wirelessly the battery temperature barely rises at all, but while charging with a cable the phone can get pretty warm (depending on which wall adapter I use).
My understanding is lower mA = slower charging = lower battery temperatures while charging = longer battery service life, correct?

Theoretically, yes. In the end, only the battery temperature itself is important regarding battery life degredation. That is also why many wireless charger have a fan, to cool down the phone.
The problem with wireless charging is that there is an excessive waste heat, and a sizeable portion of that is going into the phone chassie, meaning even if you charge a phone with lower mA, that will over time - when doing it via wireless charging - still heat up the phone considerably. If you want to preserve the battery life of a device, wireless charging isn't the best method.
