I followed a youtube tutorial on rooting the htc 10, (max lee how to root htc 10 , video for refrence, im not able to post the link since im a new user) but something has gone wrong. I got Unlock_code.bin from HTCdev but after I entered the command:
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin in the cmd
I get this error:
D:\fastboot>fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
target reported max download size of 800000000 bytes
sending 'unlocktoken' (0 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.000s]
writing 'unlocktoken'...

(bootloader) [KillSwitch] Last Byte is 0X01, enable unlock
FAILED (remote: UnlockToken Verify Fail!!)
finished. total time: 1.054s
my phone stays in download mode with this message on the screen
Flash images success (1/1)
Start downloading
So i thought it was something to to with the unlocktoken got a new one and repeated the process upto the same point and got the same error message on the command prompt and the same message on my phone except it says
Flash images success (2/2)
I can do anything else with my phone, thanks for taking the time to read this post can someone please help me resolve this issue. All help is appreciated.

Same problem.
This is also happening to me. I unlocked my own Evo 3D with this method and had no problems, but ran into this same issue trying to unlock my son's, which he just got for Christmas. I've confirmed Hboot version is 1.5. Any help with this would be much appreciated.
*Update* Fixed!
I did some research and found the solution! I've confirmed that this works for me. Basically, you have to install the old RUU version 2.08.651.2 because something in 2.08.651.3 borks the HTC unlock. Here is the original post I found:
http://htcevohacks.com/htc-evo-3d-cheat-sheet/#comment-31513
...and here is a link to a thread with the RUU 2.08.651.2 download:

OK this is not the answer but I can confirm that htc dev unlocking method is working perfectly for hboot 1.53.0007
Hello!
I am looking for help with rooting my HTC EVO 3D phone (HBOOT 1.5 with software 2.08.651.3), which went successfully all way through step 12 per HTC DEV unlock instructions, however, as described in step 13, the phone has never prompted for YES/NO to confirm unlock. I am getting the "FAILED (status read failed (Too many links))" error pretty much for every fastboot command. The good thing is that phone boots and works properly otherwise.
Factory Reset or Removing battery did not help.
Could someone advice on how to clear this error and successfully root the phone from this point.
Below is the log of commandes:
1. C:\rootevo3dnew>fastboot oem get_identifier_token
...
(bootloader)
(bootloader) < Please cut following message >
(bootloader) <<<< Identifier Token Start >>>>
************************************
(bootloader) <<<<< Identifier Token End >>>>>
OKAY [ 0.065s]
finished. total time: 0.066s
2. Got email from HTC DEV with UNLOCK_CODE.BIN file.
3. C:\rootevo3dnew>fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
sending 'unlocktoken' (0 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.152s]
writing 'unlocktoken'...
(bootloader) unlock token check successfully
OKAY [ 0.006s]
finished. total time: 0.159s
But as described in STEP 13, PHONE has never asked to confirm UNLOCK!
NOW I AM GETTING:
C:\rootevo3dnew>fastboot oem get_identifier_token
...
FAILED (status read failed (Too many links))
finished. total time: 0.003s
C:\rootevo3dnew>fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin

finished. total time: 0.005s
What hboot version are you on?

it is HBOOT 1.5 with software 2.08.651.3.
I can't link as I'm on the phone bit if you go to the cdma development section for the EVO 3d there is a few good guides to walk you through rooting and flashing with 1.5 you will still have s-on but be able to flash. My opinion would be go with twrp its in the stickies

MTEEZEY,
Thank you for the advice. Found post advising to run the 2.08 RUU and then retry the HTC unlock. Worked for me!

I got a m8 yesterday after switching to T-mobile and I would really like to unlock/root/mod it. I've rooted other phones before and haven't had this much trouble with them.
I get through all of the steps, run fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin which runs fine (gives option to unlock or not, I select yes with the power button) and reboots the phone. The phone is wiped as it's supposed to be, and I turn off the fast boot and turn on usb debugging in the options after the basic set up. When I boot it into fastboot to install the recovery, it still says *** LOCKED *** at the top of the screen, and I get this when I try to install it
XXX-Inspiron-N5010:~/Downloads/fastboot$ sudo fastboot flash recovery Recovery.img
[sudo] password for XXX:
target reported max download size of 1830608896 bytes
sending 'recovery' (14818 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.635s]
writing 'recovery'...
(bootloader) signature checking...
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
finished. total time: 2.169s
I've tried this on two different computers and with different recovery files, one running Windows 8 and the other Ubuntu five times and I can't find anyone else that has had the same problem. I would appreciate any help with this as it's getting quite frustrating
Ditt0 - I have the same problem

I'm experiencing the same thing. Can't flash recovery. Have followed instructions to Unlock bootloader through HTCdev and have gone through the process numerous times on different machines without any apparent error. Please help!

Dumb question #1
Have you tried different USB ports just to zero out all variables

Trying to unlock the bootloader, got my Unlock_code.bin file, but when I try to use it I get this error message:
C:\Users\Will\Desktop\fastboot>fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin
target reported max download size of 800000000 bytes

OKAY [ 1.007s]

(bootloader) [KillSwitch] Last Byte is 0X01, enable unlock
FAILED (remote: UnlockToken Verify Fail!!)
finished. total time: 1.082s
And of course when I reboot into bootloader it says it is locked. Tried moving the file with fastboot and the unlock_code file to a couple different places and nothing helped, and rebooting both phone and PC. Any ideas?

Did you enable unlocking in dev options?
If so, many others who have had an issue with their unlock tokens reported that using a different browser worked for them. Search the forum, there's at least one thread on about it.
Also the error message says your unlock token is 0KB. Are you sure the file is complete?
Maybe try redownload it and verify it with an MD5 hash.
I figured it out, it was just that I copied the code to get the unlock file improperly when I was in CMD. I had to copy it, but I had to turn off "enable line wrapping selection" in the cmd properties, when I tried before to copy it I ended up copying a bunch of extra info that I edited out in notepad, and I think that caused an extra space or error to be somewhere in the code, even though it worked on the HTC site. Anyway thank you for the tips guys!

Maybe your computer automatically extracted the file or something

I had to request unlock multiple times and use different browsers until it finally worked. I believe it finally worked when I completed the process with the MS Edge browser.
