Early Impressions About T-Mobile Galaxy S4

I have been using mine for a few hours now and decided to write a bit about my first impressions. I hope these will be helpful.
Here are my initial thoughts (I am coming from the iPhone 5 that I had been using for the last 5 mos)
- The phone is light (feels too light for its size), but well made and well balanced in terms of weight. No issues with build quality (except for the one mentioned below). But it's so freaking slippery. I can't wait for my Spigen case to arrive.
- The screen is gorgeous. Large and vibrant. If you don't like AMOLED oversaturation, there is a "Movie" preset that tones down the colors.
- Battery life is the best I've ever experienced. Even compared to the iPhone. I used the phone for about 3 hours and was only down 25% (I understand that the gauge still needs to be calibrated and the battery life so far may not be typical).
- I am not a fan of stock Android, but Touchwhiz is bloated and laggy. With the specs that the phone has, there shouldn't be any choppiness or waiting for stock apps (caller, etc.) to open. But there is. I am hoping that Samsung will optimize the skin's performance in the next update.
- Related: People who put so much non-removable bloatware should be hung by their necks. Why is Flipboard, Chrome, Lookout and tens of other apps non-removable and always seem to run in the background? I'll wait for a verified list of safe-to-remove apps and bye-bye bloatware.
- Overall Touchwhiz is inconsistent. The design of stock apps varies so much. And damn those stupid bubble sounds.
- Camera is amazing in well-lit environments (better than the iPhone's), but not so much in low light (The Night mode fixes the issue for static objects though).
- Call sound quality is great.
- The only minor gripe about the build quality / design that I have concerns the power button. It's small, almost flush, and has very weak, almost non-existent tactile feedback. Just the opposite of what the power button on the iPhone is like. The volume rocker is fine though.
I will update this thread if I discover anything new.

Which color did you get by the way? And what did you think of that color?
I got black but still have some urge to get white. It might not matter because I also bought the Neo Hybrid case.
It does seem Samsung and T-Mo have put a lot of bloatware into the device - I can't wait for a good ROM to come by.

I've seen the HTC One side by side with the S4 in AT&T and Best Buy, and I don't think the S4 is that much worse/cheap-feeling.
I actually found the S4 to be more comfortable to hold, and seems to fit more comfortably into my hand. The HTC One,
with all its aluminium glory, feels more rigid, and certainly not as light as the S4. I don't know.. preference.
I do think one other phone that doesn't get too much love is the Xperia Z. Great build quality, near-stock UI.
They have some nice themes that I'm using on the S3.

Good early review. I do have a question for you. I am thinking of returning this iPhone 5 for the S4. Knowing what you know now, would you advise others like me to hang on and wait it out? or is this a phone that even with its lag problems worth the switch?

I got the black mist version and I like it much better than the white. But it's personal preference.
I have already rooted the phone using the Motochopper exploit (very easy; thanks to Dan).
I also find the design much better than the S3 (more "professional", "industrial").
I do like how the HTC looks and feel, but it's not by any means more rigid. None of these phones are rugged.
The Xperia Z is a great looking phone but I personally thing that the screen on the S4 and HTC One are miles better.
With that said, the most important factor for me was the removable battery. It's always great to have a phone that doesn't have a worn battery even after a year or two of use. Plus, the battery itself is the largest one among five-inchers.

The Note 2 has the best battery life by far of any smartphone that is not the Droid Razr Maxx. That thing can last for days, and maybe weeks with the monster Anker extended battery. I hope I can get similar results with the S4, though I'm afraid if I keep a lot of apps, that will drain the battery faster. I have to say the dual speakers on the HTC One really impressed me. I'm wondering why Samsung still hasn't done it this way (or even better, dual front and back speakers). They're already one of the few tablet makers that put the speakers in front, and not the back. I live for the replaceable battery and microSD slot.

It's personal preference. There are advantages for both phones.
iPhone is much more practical to use as a PHONE (smaller size, pocketability). It's much more fluid. However, the screen size and resolution are limiting.
The S4 being a flagship Android device offers great hardware (namely the screen) and customizibility.
I have rooted my phone and installed Titanium. I will remove as much bloatware as possible and see if that fixes the lagginess problem. I will report back.
Overall, I do not regret switching from the iPhone. So far, I am really liking the S4. Let's see if that changes

My wife and I just got ours. We switched from verizon to tmo and I switched from my galaxy nexus and she switched from an iphone5. I was really nervous that she wouldnt like it but so far she loves it and hasnt put it down in few hours. For me it wasnt that big of a change... but for her it is like the first time she picked up a smart phone. The screen i think is what she likes the best... it is big but the phone doesnt feel massive. I think it actually feels smaller in hand than my gnexus. And she really likes the camera (not talking quality just the options). It is going to take me some time to get use to touch wiz but I will probably unlock the bootloader and install cm 10.1 whenever it is available for it.
If anyone else is interested in any other details let me know.

Thanks for your input. Unfortunately, Tim Cook stated that we shouldn't be expecting a larger size/resolution screen iPhone any time soon. So, if screen size matters to you, the S4 is indeed a better option.

Phone is great. Lag is minor. But I do notice top of screen can get hot fairly quick from not too much intense tasks.. not to bad though. Amd an update will surely adress these things

Since I've filmed this, I wanna add this:
Basically, I believe this launch was less than stellar. Not only did Samsung tease the S4 over the last few months, but there's the locked/verifiable bootloaders (again I add verifiable because from my understanding on AT&T and most likely Verizon too, there's checks to make sure you have a legit recovery and boot image for those particular carriers, and if it fails, brick), little availability for 32GB (ironically the only carrier to have a 32GB version is the locking down AT&T); ZERO 64GB when they claimed that 16, 32, and 64 GB versions would be available, and as I expected, Sixaxis and Wii Remotes DO NOT work out of the box (mostly because it uses Android 4.2.2 and from past experience with my Nexus 7 it does NOT play nice with sixaxis or wii remotes for whatever reason).
Oh well, at least I did showcase the Motochopper root method at the time of filming and some time after I filmed, T-mobile's version of the bootloader can indeed be unlocked. (Sprint's is unlocked from the start, btw.)

It's funny because AT&T keeps claiming "soon" for the 32 GB version yet no one knows (and AT&T will not say anything about) when "soon" is. So, although it could happen, AT&T doesn't have the 32 GB yet (and I think may never).

I sold my razr maxx to someone and bought a galaxy nexus.I will never again buy a phone with a non removable battery. With my gnex I love carrying an extra fully charged battery in case of emergency or if I just run out of juice

Queries before buying

How are you all?
I was wondering to buy this beautiful phone, but I thought to ask you owners two things which are bothering me very much.
1. Battery Issues. Presently I use S2 and will be switching to G3, If I am getting better battery backup. i dont know, I have read mixed views about battery from websites, so I wanted your personalized views on battery. My usage = When I dont use, I rarely picks up the phone, just to check text messages. But When I use it, I make sure the usage is heavy(Games mostly, or hours of chatting, minimal browsing though).
So kindly assist in this matter.
2. Will there be any need of ROM changing? Presently I am using CM11 on my s2 as I was fed up with touchwiz(yuck),
Even if your answer is yes, then I still not see any development in this sector as compared to other competitors?
3. If you had the opportunity to choose any other phone, what would that be (with similar g3 specs, you can choose g3 also )?
4. Does Quickcircle case provides impact protection?
5. Does LG causes any hassles if you want to replace your damaged screen under one-time screen replacement scheme?

Standby time on the LG G3 is immensely good. As you can see from my signature one of my previous phones was the LG G2 and that was the king of battery life for me, both stand by and regular usage. I've been using the G3 for some time now and the battery life matches the G2 which in itself is impressive considering the higher resolution screen. At first i was a bit disappointed but it took a few days/cycles for it to settle.
For instance, on days i get to work at 10am, usually have 2 email accounts pooling every hour, Google services all auto-syncing (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Keep, Photos backup, etc), Whatsapp, BBM, Weather every 3 hours, etc, i'm usually still at 90% by 2 pm when i go for break. Kill it quite a bit on break with news reading, games, web etc, and still in the 70's when i knock of at 6pm. Kill it some more on the train ride home and in the low 60's by 7.30pm.

I've always been of the opinion that the best ROM is always stock rooted, and that's what i run on mine. The stock LG G3 ROM is just fine and runs really good. I freeze whatever bloat i don't care for with Titanium Backup. As luck would have it, bootloader unlock (and hence custom recovery needed to flash custom ROMS, if that's your thing) just became available for the LG G3 device-wide. So have at it when the ROMS start flooding in.
3. If you had the opportunity to choose any other phone, what would that be (with similar g3 specs, you can choose g3 also )?
By far, the Sony Z3 or Z3 Compact. Solid battery life, water proof, great camera, etc. Always wanted Sony Xperia devices but sadly they have a phobia for Sprint as a carrier. Nexus 6 only if it was 5.2 inches or less, Moto X 2014 only if it had a better battery (only 100mAh more than 2013 model, yet bigger 5"+ 1080p screen ) and camera. I have the Moto X 2013 currently as well, impressive, but terrible camera and battery could be better.
4. Does Quickcircle case provides impact protection?
Have the case, but don't use it (got it free, definitely wouldn't have paid for it anyway). Like any other case covering your phone it's something that would save it from scratches and nicks and dings if your phone fell out your hands and was otherwise naked. I personally don't like it and use another case.
5. Does LG causes any hassles if you want to replace your damaged screen under one-time screen replacement scheme?
Not sure/don't know about this specifically.

If you can find a good price on it, go for it.

1. I have a similar use case as yours, and I've never had any issues with battery so far. I get through a day pretty easily with screen on times of 5-6 hours which is good enough.
2. Stock ROM with minor root based improvements is quite decent with not much lag. I've used Touchwiz before and I find LG stock UI much better than Touchwiz. Ofcourse, fully functional CM & AOSP would be far better and I plan to switch to it immediately when available. The bootloader has only just been bypassed so ROM dev will kick up soon.
3. HTC One m8 or Nexus 6 (depending on how big it actually feels on hand). But I had that choice with M8 while going for the G3 so that's my take on it.
4. Yes and No. Depends on where the impact occurs. The cutout on front leaves that area of screen damage prone but the back is pretty well covered. A little less than a proper case though since the Quick Circle case essentially replaces the back cover.
5. Not sure about that. Thankfully I've not had to deal with them regarding this & hopefully I won't have to.

Here prices at online retailers is around 34k after all discounts. That's best in terms of spec/cost ratio.
Also LG India giving free 6 month insurance i guess, circle case and discount on lg g watch worth 10000 INR.
Also can you please post your gaming experience in words, or any performance grudge you hold against g3.
I know no phone is perfect, but I'd like to weigh my options here.

Please tell me more about your experience of gaming on g3? Is it better, worse, or average. I do plan to use this phone for atleast 4 years, if I buy it. Hence, I hope it does not get outdated. What are your views on this? (Know H/W wise it might be, but still my s2 works like a charm on CM11 and is able to play asphalt 8 flawlessly, though on low settings. )

N6 is quite costly as compared to other nexus devices. Although, it is for the specs its offering, I personally dont feel that s801 soc will be outdated soon enough. One M8 is big, specially those front speakers, added to its physical area. I personally dont like on-screen buttons, so was less oriented towards m8.

As for gaming, no complaints here. Handles anything i've thrown at it, Leo's Fortune, Boxtrolls, Manuganu, Skyforce, to name a few.

1. Absolutely no problems with gaming performance wise on the G3. The only issue is that is gets heated up if you're playing a games with the brightness cranked up. Personally, I play games at ~50% brightness which is good enough and doesn't heat up as much.
3. Same here. 801 definitely won't get outdated anytime soon, but since you're picking up a new device at full price and planning to keep it for 4 years I'd suggest you wait a bit to get a feel for the N6 atleast before making a decision. As for the M8, yeah I know where you're coming from. I had to decide between the M8 & the G3 too and I went for the G3 mainly because of the much better design at a larger screen size. Although durability wise the M8 will definitely handle some rough usage better than the G3.

Yea, I was thinking the same but N6 is approximated to cost ~42K INR. While G3 is ~8k less.
My first bike costed 49k. So I dont want to go beyond 35k for a phone as of now. I hope you understand my conundrum.

Would you recommend the Nexus?

I'm thinking of buying one, it's in the price range I'm looking at ($80-$100 on swappa), and it seems like it still has good dev support.
The Nexus is almost 3 years old, those that still have it, are you keeping it because you like it, or just because (don't want to loose your data plan for example).

It's a decent phone and there is still some Dev support. I bought mine about a year ago and have been satisfied. Battery life sucks compared to newer phones signal isn't to great compared to my RAZR. But all in all it having an unlocked BL on Verizon makes it all worth while. I thoroughly enjoy mine and will only move if nexus 6 is unlocked on Verizon.

I can join my previous speakers. It has a very bad battery, it's lags often in apps and the screen is very worn because of this early AMOLED technologie, BUT if you have only 100€ its one of the better phones. I'm using it right now because my nexus 5 were broken and I really like it because it just works. However if you have $50 more to spend when you should buy the moto g. It has clearly more power and offical support by motorola.

no. this phone is terrible, and i'm currently looking into buying a replacement battery for my S3 since it's been sitting in my drawer and i have no idea where the battery went, plus it's broken
i can probably find some way to fix it on ADB, but if not, i'll just wait until i upgrade then i'll get the oneplus one
seriously this phone sucks, there is nothing to recommend about it

No man dont do it .. phone performance is pretty random, dont know why, sometimes it flies like an S4, sometimes it lagz and freezes like an S1..

I've been very satisfied with my phones performance. But I wouldn't recommend it if you don't like to mess around with kernels, ROMs and settings.

I've been very satisfied with my phones performance. But I wouldn't recommend it if you don't like to mess around with kernels, ROMs and settings.

Thanks for all the responses. I actually do like flashing roms. Should've given more info in OP. I currently have a verizon s4 but since a warranty replacement a few months ago i no longer have an unlocked (exploitable) bootloader and am stuck with touchwiz roms and no custom kernels.
Use my phone mostly for web browsing, xda app, Pandora, Google music - no gaming, coupled that with the fact that i can use the $100-$125 difference I'll make after selling the s4, thought this phone might work.
Will have to think about it a bit more.

Well, web browsing has become hard since 4.4.x. To be honest, KitKat is a mess on this phone. I hope new GPU drivers and 3.4 kernel will help.
If I were you I would buy a Moto G.

I'm using Gnex for a half a year. I bought used. So not because of data plan.
For me Gnex can still give what i need for "normal" daily use - sms, browser, messenger, driving assist, news reading, some games ....
So it depends on your need

It's a beautiful device, but it's definitely not the best. I absolutely love the unobtrusive design of the front -- just plain black. The phone is the exact right size for me, and the volume and power buttons are in exactly the right place; however the bezels are quite large in comparison to newer phones. This makes the structural integrity of the phone better, but it isn't really nice to me. The back of the phone has a comfortable plastic "grippy" feeling that makes it easy to hold, especially with the curved extrusion at the bottom by the speaker grill.
The speaker is awful, as with all Samsung devices. It's a back-facing speaker that's tiny and easy to cover up. Not much of a problem if you use earphones like I do.
It easily lasts me through a school day, though it only lasts about 4 hours streaming video. Its dual core processor is definitely outdated and consumes far more powererformance than any modern phone.
The screen is on-par with the Galaxy S3 screen, which isn't a compliment. It's low-resolution in comparison to new phones (1280x720), it's hot (as in it actually feels hot) and consumes a heck of a lot of battery very quickly. The colour is amazing, vibrant and simply gorgeous... but, within a few months, you get screen burn-in which is especially noticeable in low light -- speaking of which, the screen in low light is far worse than any IPS with a slightly grainy image, though it does retain a good contrast. Its slightly curved display prevents it from scratching anything facing down and, in my opinion, makes it easier to touch things at the top of the screen.
The phone's radio is only GSM (unless you're going for Sprint or Verizon), so if you're wanting LTE, tough luck. It also doesn't have FM or AM radio if you're into that.
The camera's not the best, but it does the job. The flash is often over-bright, and lacks HDR, motion stabilisation and is only 5 Megapixels. Front camera is 720p.
So why buy this phone? If you can get it really cheap, go for it. If not, go for something newer like the Moto X, Moto G, Nexus 5 or the upcoming Nexus 6 for a similar, updated experience.
Just remember, it's truly an Android modder's dream. It's extremely mod-able with a decent sized community. In my opinion, it is still the best phone I have ever used. I find that just the pure feeling and look of the phone is enough to keep me with it. Also, with recent additions to the phone like F2FS, graphics drivers, new kernels, new ROMs etc., the phone is still very usable for just about everything -- even most gaming.

For $100 i would buy it. The moto g is comparable and faster but almost $100 more. But I think your question is already answered

bought mine for 70 dollars one month ago, definetily worth it.

I would much rather use an s4 with touchwiz than use a galaxy nexus. The gnex is the second worst android phone that I've ever owned.

You really can't compare a three year old phone to a phone that is just over a year old. Of course the s4 will be better but touchwizz yuck it would probably be just as slow as a galaxy nexus.

It's a good phone when it was released but the battery life is quite short even though I don't have a lot of apps on it. When the battery life is in the red, it usually last around 5 minutes then it shuts down. I think it was better than than iPhone 4 at its time since it was one of the first phone with a larger screen.

Honestly, I think CM10 runs amazing on the phone and the signal is actually quite good with that version. 4.4.4 doesn't do well on it for the signal...at least for me. I have been trying many ROMs / Kernels and I have the same luck with them all. I only have mine because I bought it for like $80 on ebay and still have the unlimited plan with Verizon so I don't want to upgrade to a new phone unless I pay the big dollars.
Battery life...is crap like everyone else states. I bought three batteries for this phone for that reason and always have it plugged in, which is why I actually have burn in from my apps.

I own GNex for almost 3 years now and here are few things coming into my mind right now:
Terrible camera
Terrible speaker (Very low volume)
Slow as hell
Worn screen
Incredibly short battery life
Also, with such limited memory multitasking is pretty much not existent if you like installing many apps
Honestly, there is not a single day that I don't want to throw my unit against the wall.
Do yourself a favor and stay away from this peace of junk.

The Galaxy Nexus is a really ****ty phone. If it wasn't a Nexus it would get zero respect from me.
I mean for an old and cheap phone, it's probably the best you can buy at this moment but I'd suggest saving a few more dollars and getting something better.

[Q] Should I get this phone

Ever since November, I've been thinking about purchasing a new phone. I was set on the 2nd gen Moto X as I have a $50 discount code, but I got quite busy and didn't really have time to think about how I wanted to customize it and order it. And my Nexus 4 (what I'm upgrading from) isn't terrible, I just feel it needs to be upgraded pretty soon. But T-Mobile recently offered $150 off of their G3 ($450 final) and I felt it was a steal, especially for having double the capacity and an extra gig of RAM. So both are $450 in the end. I know you guys will recommend the G3 for me, but does anyone have certain reasons why the G3 is the better of the two? Any response is appreciated. Thanks guys

Personally, I love the power and volume buttons on the back. I rarely have to use the physical buttons anyway.

This is the real dealbreaker for me because I've felt the Moto X in person, and it's rock-solid in terms of build quality, but can't say anything for the G3 as I've never used it. But some people complain about the plastic build quality. I'm going to try and get my hands on one, but the another plus for this device is ROMs. Oh, sweet ROMs. The main reason this site exists haha

I'm impressed with the build quality, but I came from the S3 and S2 before that so was used to "worse". It feels nice, it's light, I was worried it would seem to big for me. The curved back feels nice and makes it feel comfortable.
Two things I think could be better about this phone. The notification LED - I never notice it when I get a notification unless I'm looking directly at it.
It's too small. The S3's LED was perfect. S2's was huge and looked like it was made for kids.
If I have the phone face up on my desk at work I never notice the vibration notification for texts. I did all the time in the S3.
I theorize that the curved back makes it this way since it's less contact area when face up.
I'll have to make an effort to keep it face down and see if I notice it. Mods for notifications like "Dynamic Notifications" , custom AOSP based ROMs and possibly official lollipop will take care of the notification problem by waking up the screen for them.
By the way, I got 115+ hours on battery last time I charged, but since I picked up a tablet at the same time and my wife and I are anti-social, I don't use my phone much.
The camera is awesome with laser focus on the stock ROMs. I rarely have to use the flash, too.

Just my 2 cents:
The build quality is relatively solid. I use the phone without a case with a glass screen protector and mahogany dbrand skin on the back. It has taken quite a few falls and there are only minor scuffs on the corners. There is no creaking of the battery door which is a plus. On the flip side I was not too pleased with the plastic back cover. While it feels miles ahead in terms of quality over the G2 and Galaxy S models, I find that it feels 'meh'. However this is easily fixed by a dbrand skin, which I cannot recommend enough.
As for why you would prefer this phone to the Moto X:
I would say for me it would be the Micro SD, the 2K screen, the camera (with OIS) and actually LGs recent efforts to keep the software up to date. LG arguably 'released' their Lollipop update for the G3 before the Nexus devices even got it. This bodes well for future updates, really.
As for why you would prefer the Moto X:
The build quality is great and the customisability is a plus. Moreover the software is much less bloated on the Moto X and less resource heavy. This however is pretty subjective and many actually like the G3 software.
In all honesty, I probably would have opted for the Moto X if it had had an SD card slot. However I got the G3 for a killer price and it has everything I need. I have no need to complain but it just feels rather... uninspiring.
Just my honest opinion

I've had mine for a couple of weeks and am very happy with it.
Build quality: it feels solid and well made. I would prefer a textured back (like the G3 S) rather than the smooth back, but like poster above said, I can get a dbrand skin or something similar if I really want.
There is obviously an issue with cracks on top/bottom edges, but LG say that was a production problem that's been sorted. Do I trust that statement? No. We'll see what happens.
No complaints about anything. I even think stock rom is great (after being a Cyanogen user for 4 years).

g3 vs sgs3 roms
I also thought about buying this phone. However, I entered the forum and I was terrified a small amount of the available roms. My current device is sgs3 where I can select in countless available modifications. If something did not work, or just does not suit me I can quickly change it to something else. How is it here? This is as bad as can be seen from the number of topics in the Android Development section?

Wow comparing an old phone to a last year's phone.. Funny. Remember it's not easy to compile good stuff/mods to create a roms as there are many things to consider. Give it some time impatient guy.
On topic: i am 50/50 with this phone.
Pros:
*Camera with ois and laser af
*Ergonomics
*Plastic build yes, but its much better and premium looking than chrome which really looks cheap. (Hi Samsung)
*5.5 inch display in such a compact phone. (Hi Sony)
*Faster when it comes to SW updates
*Music output is great whether you're using speaker or earphones
*Power and volume buttons at the back? Genius! Makes the phone clean at the sides
*I prefer Knock code than fingerprint scanner. My phone is still safe even when I'm sleeping. Lol (Hi Apple)
Cons:
*Starts to heat up faster than other quadcore phones
*Ui is beautiful but sluggish
*Speakers at the back is ok but much better if they put it at the bottom for much clearer sound
*Stuttering even when using other launchers like nova
*I didn't pay for a premium device just to get this phone. Honestly, lag is tolerable but cmon.. This has a 2/3 gb of Ram with enough storage and has SD801 processor. We shouldn't be experiencing this kind of problem
Well i don't hate my phone. I love it. It's just the software that seems to be the problem. again it's for you to decide. You can use our personal experience as your reference but the choice will be yours.. Go to where your heart desires

I have found that without a case, the phone is pretty slick, and really thin, if you don't have a good grip on it, it will slip, if your not careful, not a deal breaker, just with any phone you gotta be careful

But no matter... I hope that some developers will start to get interested in it in the future.

I have one question, how about battery life?

I just moved over to an ls990 (Sprint) from an HTC One (m7)...
Pros:
Much Better Camera
Much Improved battery life
Removable Battery
Removable SD Card
Cons:
I don't like the rear buttons (maybe you might)
AOSP ROMS are still very buggy (at least on the ls990/Sprint)
Overall I'm pretty happy with the choice, although I wouldn't have switched unless my HTC hadn't completely died (I'm guessing it was the internal battery.... which might as well be impossible to get to).
I would expect within the next year for ROMs to become much more stable for the LG G3, and I'm happy with the choice thus far. Hope that helps.

Yeah, there were/are tons of modded stock roms for s3. Thing is, 99.9999% percent of them don't deseve to exist.
The only good stock ones are 4.4.2 ports, omega rom and archidroid. And, maybe, S5 revolution. Other roms are "Let's take a stock rom, make a ton of useless build.prop edits and post it!"...
The g3 situation is different - roms are few, but distinct and good. There are some aosp/cm roms, from pure AOSP to Temasek's "Gotta kang em 'all!' builds, so things here aren't worse.
Battery life, is, unfortunately, same as on S3 or even worse. Bright 2K screen, snapdragon 801 and 4g don't add to battery life. 6h of 4g web browsing at most and 2-3 h of hardcore gaming is pretty bad.
There are serious flaws, actually. The main one is the absence of any cooling system for 801, plus it's facing the screen - which forced LG's software team to throttle it on 60° to prevent lowering screen brightness too low.

Anybody planning to switch from S7 Edge and why?

S7 Edge
Pros:
- Bigger screen
- Bigger battery and hence longer SOT
- Better screen colors in basic mode, brightness
Cons:
- TouchWiz, UI not as fluid as Nexus
- All glass desgin and the edges are nice but not practical at all
- Root voids the warranty
- Exynos can be rooted but I doubt we will see custom ROMs
HTC 10
Pros:
- Better build, metal
- Better fingerprint scanner in terms of NOT having to press the button as on S7 edge
- Closer to Nexus in terms of UI and fluidity
- Better development and custom ROMs, to my knowledge root does not void warranty
- Better audio
Cons:
Nothing major so far I see, the items listed in pros in the S7 edge part are of a better quality but the HTC 10 is acceptable there as well.
I know both are great mobiles. Interested in your opinions as I have never owned an HTC before so do you think it is worth it? I can still return sell my S7 edge that I got at a good price which is equivalent to the price of HTC 10.

Cartoonish colors, gimmicks, heavy bloat, slow updates (because they have 457489579347 devices and it has to go through carriers), no development in the states because that bootloader is locked down tight and worst of all in my personal opinion.... Amoled. I do not like amoled screens for some weird reason. Also one reason is every single samsung device in the store has deep burn ins... noooooo thanks
If you want a phone with a ton of features and you like keeping it stock samsung is a great choice. Just cuz I don't like them doesn't mean their phones are bad. In fact they are pretty darn good. But I would hate to own one, especially at the price they are asking...
HTC is a different beast all together. Simple, beautiful, powerful. It's your choice

My wife is on her 3rd S7 since launch. I'm sure its just a bad batch of phones she's gotten. Specifically, her signal is so bad, that even the verizon tech when logged into her phone was mystified that she could do anything. Don't get me wrong, my wife likes the phone, physically. But that is about it. Its been nothing but a pain in the Arse. She almost switched to an Iphone. Its that bad.
Again, this is just one situation. YMMV,
Me, I'm dropping the LG V10 to get this phone. and the V10 is a beast, but I've come to realize, that HTC is where its at.

clearly that says S7 and not S7 edge...
I am having a hard time deciding, I do like the S7 Edge a lot, I dont have to do stupid crap to limit my battery, and with my variant, I can tweak the sound to be louder or dual speaker (obviously not as good as HTC speaker)
It also IP68 which is pretty cool if you go to the beach and want to take picture near the water.
its gonna be a hard challenge for sure for me, I order the HTC 10 and I currently have the S7Edge for about 2 months running renovate rom, its really smooth, anyone who says Touchwiz is clunky and slow obviously hasnt touch the s6 or S7, even if they are clunky and slow, nothing custom roms wont fix, that being said, I do love HTC blinkfeeds. That exynos processor is the best to date and I'm not talking about benchmark score, I'm talking about battery life, day to day performance and thermal control. It's gonna be tough deciding, however if you know your priority of what you want, it shouldnt be a problem, unfortunately for me, I'm a phone whore.
dont let anyone here influence you by saying HTC 10, theres a reason why the S7 edge getting so much praise from everyone. Use both phones and see, HTC and Sony forum/thread are notorious for having employees coming in and prop up their phone (like that guy who post a video that is completely irrelevant to your questions and he clearly does not know anything about the S7 and S7 edge, there is custom roms for the exynos S7/S7edge), I mean let's be honest, they arent exactly doing well and who can blame them, if they dont do it, sales gonna go down, and they be out of business.

you know you talking about a very extreme case...putting the phone on display at max brightness, for 12-24 hours a day is not a typical scenario of an average user and even that it takes a while for it to burn in.

Thanks all for the comments. I love the s7 edge and I'm not having any main issues with it so logically should stay with the edge as no phone is perfect. I guess I'll wait before I can hold the 10 in my hand to decide.

Sadly I really like the edge version of Samsung and the glass... For HTC I liked the sense... Witch can't say now. So still not sure with what will upgrade. Marshmallow for M8 just ducked it up really bad... So the updates won't be problem . And what's the point to have 1208588 custom roms cuz when basically are all the same. (Except 1,2)

Have to agree, s7 edge screen is dismal tbh.phone often freezes and key pad is awful especially anything on the edge.
Ordered the 10 today..

I have switched from the edge to the 10. Imo the 10 feels much better in hand. With the edge I often had trouble with the sides registering my hand. Also I don't see the screen as a downgrade, it's beautiful.

I'm most likely going to change from S7 (non edge, TMo variant) to the 10 when it's out and jumpable. I do for the most part really like the S7, but I often getting presses on the edge screen from my palm while using it one handed, which I did not have nearly as much (if at all) on my V10 before it. Hopefully the HTC 10 will work better for me.
I also want the ability to root. I probably won't be flashing too many ROMs, I've kind of grown out of that, but I like to at least have the option.

I do for the most part really like the S7, but I often getting presses on the edge screen from my palm while using it one handed, which I did not have nearly as much (if at all) on my V10 before it. Hopefully the HTC 10 will work better for me.
I also want the ability to root. I probably won't be flashing too many ROMs, I've kind of grown out of that, but I like to at least have the option.

Really like the size of the standard S7...
HTC should've had a better form factor, the S7 fits more confortably in the hand its not too tall nor is it too wide.
The 10 size is making be hesistant, but theres nothing really smaller worth having other than the S7 and the iPhone 6S (Which I've looked into also).
Like easy one handed use.

I haven't made my mind up yet but I really wish the 10 would have had a 5.5 in display. In terms of display quality I like them both the same. I just wish the HTC got brighter in direct sunlight than it does. I'm also worried that I won't be able to achieve the kind of battery life I'm getting on the S7 Edge which is why I will wait and see what others get when the phone becomes more widely available. Right now, I can get close to 8 hours SOT or 2 days of light/medium usage with the S7E.
I guess I'm just going to wait another couple weeks to see what happens after more people get the 10.

Hah, we'll see. Knowing myself I'll continue to say no to constantly trying out new ROMs at the same time as I'm downloading a new one.
