I was wondering if there is any safe recommendations to download and install an update to my phone which is the Samsung note 4 from verizon. I've heard of a app called Flash fire
(website: http://www.howtogeek.com/192402/why-androids-ota-updates-remove-root-and-how-to-keep-it/amp/ )
and it says that it flashes the update but keeps the root intact but I'm not sure about it. I just want to make sure this is a safe option. I'm running Android version 5.1.1 (rooted) and am trying to update to 6.0.1.
Sorry I'm still a noob with rooting the note 4. But yes it works fine with the note 4

Should really be posted in q&a section. But do you have any apps disabled by any chance?

My best advice is ROOT, TWRP it, and install either CLEAN ROM or SKY NOTE if you want something close to the stock rom.
I am running the Clean Rom 1.0 SE ATT version right now and I love it.
I had the same problem with the OTA update and I said EFF AT&T and their broke update and just did it myself.
It took me about 2 hours to get my phone all customized and set up the way I want it again but it was well worth it.

Hello, I have rooted my stock Galaxy Note 3 T-Mobile 4.3 and now I heard that Samsung is rolling out soon KitKat update for the Note 3.
My questions is, do I have to unroot and return to stock then update then root the exact same way I did before ?
Does updating to KitKat require a different root method ?
Can I restore my apps and how ? I dont seem to know how to use Titanium backup and I even purchased it!
Please help me and thanks

I believe that you can update to Kitkat via Odin when the official update comes to T-mobile while rooted but you will lose root in the process. As far as rerooting, I believe you can flash recovery with Odin and then flash SuperSu in recovery to get rooted again, although, I think I read somewhere that it wasn't recommended anymore?. Not sure though. I used auto root method which I'm sure would still work just fine with kitkat. For restoring apps I would recommend the App backup and restore from the play store. Very easy to use.
Why dont you flash a 4.4 rom that's out there

I generally NEVER accept OTA updates until Devs have a chance to look at it and okay it, or see what others feedback is after accepting. Don't take for granted that you are rooted and have unlocked boot loader access. And until official KitKat is released its all hearsay as to when it'll come out.
Hello, I moved onto a Note 3 but I recently took my VZW Galaxy Nexus out of the drawer it was in and I am going to use it as a secondary device at home on wifi only.
I'm rooted and running a 4.2.2 ROM, can I simply flash a Kit Kat ROM?
On the Note 3 there was a very specific process to upgrade involving flashing firmware update in odin.
Is anything like that required here or can I just flash a KK ROM like any other ROM?
Thanks in advance for the help. I feel like I should know this but when I went from ISC to JR back in the day, I took the VZW update and just maintained root with supersu pro.

Make sure you have the latest recovery twrp or cwm. Also make sure to use kitkat gapps. Everything thing will just work like normal as far as installing.
Thanks much. I was hoping it'd be this easy.
I currently just got the sprint samsung galaxy tab 3. When I activated it, it updated to 4.4 kitkat . I cant seem to find the root method for 4.4, can anyone help, I just flashed the old method and it obviously isnt working.
I am also having this issue. I just bought the tablet (SM-T217S) and updated to 4.4.2. I flashed TWRP with Odin and then flashed armeabi universal root through TWRP as per these instructions. I see SuperSU in my apps but it crashes on start. Apps that require root don't work also.
I need root so I am willing to downgrade Android for it but I would love to have root on the stock 4.4.2.
EDIT: Found the solution. Follow the instructions found here (same as above), then flash the SuperSU update attached here with TWRP.

Hi
Recently I installed nougat 7.1 on my note 2 7100. Phone is working smoothly but I lost my root and cwm recovery . I tried to enabled root from developer option but failed. Any can help to get it back
Not sure but flashing Nougat with CWM may have caused the problem. I suggest using twrp to re-flash the ROM.
Thank you for you reply.
I have odin3 v3.10.7 which I used for galaxy ace 3. My question is the same Odin can I use it for my note 2 also.
If so where can I get a suitable version of Twrp for Odin.
Please answer.
OK I have solved my problem by re rooted the phone.
