Kingroot doesn't work with AFTV4k 5.0.5.1 - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can’t get past the first Kingroot screen- Has a big picture of what looks like a key hole with compass points, and at the bottom says “Root auth protect privacy via root” with a little double chevron arrow moving up and down. When I try using Kingroot 4.1, it gets to about 50% and says root failed.
Some people noted this happens with an Ethernet cable, so I unplugged it and connected to WiFi, still have the same problem. I’m using NewKingROOT 4.9.6_c151_B321. I have the Amazon Fire TV 4k, Fire OS 5.0.5.1. It is stock except I disabled the autoupdate with “adb shell pm hide com.amazon.device.software.ota” And sideloaded kodi with ES File explorer. Anyone know what is the problem?

I don't think you can root 5.05.1 with kingroot. You can only use a-to-a usb cable connected to a pc to root.

Ahh, you are correct- I missed that part in the tutorial video, but it's in the write-up here http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-root...ecovery-and-a-pre-rooted-rom-all-without-a-pc

Trouble Installating Gotham 13.2 , with adbfire 1.0.7

Hi, Everyone
Im rather new to using a lot of the latest technology, but here is what is what's giving me a problem, i purchased Amazon fire tv. I connected it to
my t.v. via hdmi cord, then connected it to my router with the ethernet cable. its on 192.168.0.6, I turned "adb debugging on". I downloaded adbfire,
and connected to the device. then i press "Install APK" i load the gotham 13.2.APK , which is the latest version from the xbmc.org website. It
starts to Install, the bar is loading green, and as it reaches the end "FULLY GREEN BAR INSTALLING" it just gets stuck there, nothing happens,
no failure nothing. it just stays green. from what i read and from the youtube video I watched it's supposed to say "install complete" and then
XBMC should be installed on my amazon fire tv, but it doesn't say that, i really need help can someone please help me! I also attached a picture of
adbfire t.v. where it just stays full loaded on green, thank you.
It may take 10-15 minutes before pop up message.... dill

XBMC should take a minute or less to sideload. If this delay happens, kill adbFire with Task Manager and restart it making sure no other background processes are running. Check your logfile adbfire.log for problems.
If you have questions or need support, visit the adbFire thread.

Well, I have exactly the same problem with a german AFTV delivered yesterday.
But it doesn't seem to be a adbfire problem because I also tried to install the xbmc gotham apk with adb directly from a windows shell and this doesn't seem to work, either.
After starting adb install <path_to_apk> nothing happens anymore, I waited for more than 30 minutes after starting the installation with both methods, adbfire and adb.exe
Update:
It seems to be a windows problem on my side, I installed adb on a virtual machine running debian wheezy and from that machine the installation works like a charm.
It's really a great upgrade for Fire TV since xbmc is running on it.
Martin
just adb the apk.. adb connect, then adb install xbmc_xxx.apk it works for me.
I was getting tired of waiting with the green status

Directv and wukong apps not completley working

I am able to upload the apps to the fire stick but cannot seem to open them completely. I downloaded the wukong remote app, have a bluetooth keyboard hooked up to my Samsung un65h7150 which seems to have a pretty fast processor and also have the directv tablet app on the stick as well. I can sign in with directv but have great difficulty navigating with fire stick remote and the keyboard as well. I can get as far as highlighting a channel but to open it up never happens- no enter buttons work neither on the wukong 'try now'
Any help would be appreciated.

You need to side-load the app to your phone or tablet, open app and connect to your Firestick IP, once connected It will automatically install the wukong app on your firestick . Once you see the app under your main\apps you are good to go.
Hi thanks I thought it just wasn't completely compatible. I did download the 'appstofire', app from GP, opened it up after I had the wukong and direct tablet already downloaded (from gp) and then opened the appstofire app, selected those apps to upload then got an error to select setup. I then put in my IP and then was able to upload or transfer the wukong and directv apps to the stick. So you're saying they need to be sideloaded instead of how I'm doing it- I did see an app called fire tv stick side load app somewhere on here- I'll try that when I get in- hopefully this works since the 'appstofire' app didn't - thanks for your help :good:
Uninstall sideloaded apps. Go to playstore and download wukong app on your phone\tablet, lunch it and search for your box IP,select it and will attempt to connect, once connected it will automatically install wukong app on your fire TV. When this is all done you should be able to see the pointer on your screen and navigate through using your preferred type of build in modes ( touchpad, dpad, mouse or keyboard)
Hi not sure what I am doing wrong but once uninstalling the apps from the firestick and downloading the wukong app for 'kodi' instead of any other then launching it and selecting ip, it asks last 2 numbers which I put in and hit search and I get no device found which dosen't make sense. I have unkown sources on and usb degug on set, it tries to initialize but fails and says 1 minute to resolve but goes to a tutorial troubleshoot page without connecting?

Hi I know what you were explainging was a pretty simple, quick access to the application but I seem to be experiencing a problem connecting to it on my firestick. Once installing the app on my phone for example and then trying to access it on the stick, it shows ‘smart tv’ which is checked and ‘my devices’ which has a rectangular green box that is labeled ‘connect’ but not ‘firetv’. When tapping ‘connect', I get ‘initializing’ then failed to initialize showing the troubleshooting page suggesting developer options and usb debugging which are all on. The only other problem that I thought may be the issue was having all connections the same which they are now on the same wifi extender that has the best signal. This didn’t change anything. I then checked the IP address on the firestick which is 192.168.1.12 and it when hitting ‘Input IP to search’, it asks for the last 2 digits but when entering the 12, I quickly get ‘no devices found please try again. I then checked the IP on my tv and found its IP’s last 2 digits are 22 not 12 which I don’t see how I would change these or even if this would be the problem since it is the firestick that I am trying to get recognized. Besides, even though ‘smart tv’ shows up in the ‘New Devices’, Wukong is not functional with the actual tv either. The other suggestion they give was to install the server onto the tv but once copying that fires on to a flash drive then plugging it into my Samsung smart tv, I cant even access the file on the tv.
If you or anyone can shed any light on my situtuation - it would be appreciated

I'm also stuck
When I use Wukong Remote, it doesn't detect my Fire TV. I have ADB debugging and Unknown Source both on. Might there be another setting I am missing so my Firestick can be detected?

Amazon Fire TV Stick not showing up on tv, version before voice remote

I tried to transfer a ustv4.0 APK zip file to the firestick via USB after some extensive instructions on YouTube but found that using Google Drive with ES File Explorer would be the quick and easy method. I also got lost in the instructions after downloading ADB and fire starter. When plugging the firestick back into the TV to go the ES file route, the firestick doesn't even show up on the TV now- the HDMI port that I had used would display 'fire stick' and display the HDMI port #, now nothing shows up and then the screen times out quickly as if nothing is plugged in. When I first plugged in the firestick to my windows 10 laptop, I checked the drives and it didn't show up although I could hear a USB connection chime as if something just was connected and if I disconnected it, it had a disconnect chime as well. I did see in device manager before unplugging it that it had shown up as 'unknown device' towards the bottom land labeled as AFTM. Can anyone tell me what they think may have gone wrong and why it no longer shows up on the TV or why it's now not starting up for that matter? Any help would be appreciated.

Using the .apk instead of the remote

My wifi is down so I can't use the remote. My ADB USB debugging is on so I can't use a USB keyboard. I've connected the Fire TV to my router via ethernet and installed the Amazon app on my Android phone. It sees the Fire TV (displays the correct name), but when I try to connect it spins and returns "cannot connect." Any ideas what to do to get it to connect?
Without access I can't select any menu options, box boots fine, but I would like access again. Also, just FYI, I mentioned this in passing in a more detailed message about not being able to use my gen 2 Fire TV, but thought I should focus on this issue in particular since if I could get it working I can reset it to factory defaults.
Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated!

Firestick will not allow sign in - remote will not pair

Hi everyone
This is NOT the normal posting about pairing a remote to the Amazon Fire Stick. I have a Firestick and at the sign in page (where you connect your user account to Amazon) it is completely stuck. The remote does nothing.
Note:
The remote works fine on another Firestick
The batteries have been replaced and are OK
The usual tips for pairing the remote to the Firestick have all failed.
No matter what I do the remote will note pair (the remote is fine). I cannot get past the sign-in screen.
Does anyone know a way to reset the Firestick?
Has the Firestick gone completely?
Will ADB Link or other such device reset it?
Does anyone have any ideas please?
Thank you
3 options I can think of.
1) Use an OTG adapter and plug in a keyboard. Finishing signing in then navigate to the settings and pair the remote in the settings.
2) Same as the above except use the fire tv remote app on your phone.
4) Root the stick (if possible on your version) factory reset/wipe in TWRP. If that doesn't fully reset the device you can flash the stock firmware and it will restore it to the same state as it was out of the box, meaning the first screen will be on remote pairing.
I suspect what happens is the stick was deregistered. That usually brings up the sign-in page, and somewhere either the pairing was lost or that isn't the remote that was paired with that stick when it was deregistered.
Dear Sir
Thank you for your excellent, extensive response. However, I am unsure what TWRP is?
Thank you
I would highly suggest trying option 1 or 2 first. Option 3 requires rooting the stick and you should have a good understanding of what TWRP is before going down that path. Also you may or may not even be able to root it, depending on which you have and the software version it's on.
Hello it would have to be option 3. I tried the fire TV app and it would not install on either my phone or fire tablet. The only thing I cannot understand using TWRP is the tutorials I have seen say the Android device needs to have ADB Debugging ON.
Hardly a chance of doing it as I cannot access the device in the first place!!!
I will have a go and see what comes up.
Cheers
Using TWRP requires unlocking the device, and unlocking the device requires an older firmware that is vulnerable to an exploit. I don't know which Stick you have or your firmware version, but if the Stick has received an update since March, then there is no way to unlock it currently.
If you had TWRP, you wouldn't need to enable ADB debugging in FireOS, because TWRP includes it's own ADB binary that it enables.
Have you already tried the FireTV app on a phone/tablet? When you choose setup a new device, I thought the phone communicated with the Stick via Bluetooth?
Hello Finnzz!
thank you for the input.
I did try and install FireTV on my kindle tablet but it won't install for some reason.
I am not aware of the phone or device connecting via bluetooth (I thought it was only the remote that came with it that did that) but if it does connect with bluetooth I cannot get into the Firestick to actually connect to wi-fi or to turn on bluetooth devices! So, I am stuck!
Just to clarify, I'm talking about the FireTV app for Android.
Amazon Fire TV - Apps on Google Play
Simple navigation, a keyboard, plus voice search for Fire TV.
play.google.com
When using that app on your phone, and selecting:
'set up new device'
Then:
'Fire TV'
This will search for FireTVs via Bluetooth. Bluetooth is turned on by default on the FireTV. The stock FireTV remote connects to the Stick using Bluetooth, so it has to be on.
If you are using a FireHD tablet download the FireTV app from the Amazon app store, don't sideload the Google Play Store version.
Amazon Fire TV:Amazon.com:Appstore for Android
Edit: Also, have you already tried resetting the remote?

If your remote isn't working, try resetting it.

Hello
Thank you for the reply. Just to make sure does the Firstick need to be connected to wi-fi in order for bluetooth to work because if that is the case I cannot turn on wi-fi.
Thank you

Have you already tried the remote reset procedure linked to above? This is the first thing you should try. Simply taking out or replacing the batteries does not reset it.
Did you already try using the FireTV app on another Android device? I wouldn't think that if the app is communicating via Bluetooth for setup that WiFi was needed. Try it and see
Bullseye!!!
Nailed it finally and the recommendation you put forward (Fire TV app) worked a treat. It amazed me how fast and responsive it was.
Without your assistance I thought the Firestick was ready for the bin.
I am very appreciative to the following contributors:

Cheers!
Glad you got it sorted. Sorry for my misinformation, I wasn't aware the app commuted with the stick over Bluetooth.
