23 new fires, well, that is more than we knew before. Damn...
I officially has a sad :crying:
What to do now...
I'll be bringing them back for a refund and have my Note 4 reactivated. My wife gave her Note 4 to our daughter and doesn't want to ask it back from her, and is going with the S7 Edge instead.
I guess I'll have to switch to a s7e or the v20. I really don't want to use my upgrade though. I want to save that for when the s8 or another note comes out.
same here Ill go back to ye olde moto x while i wait. Samsung should flag note 7 owners for 200$ off the s8 or N8 when it comes out

in the US the CPSC has said it is mandatory, this means atleast in the US Samsung will have to fall in line and make it mandatory, but it will take them time to update the site, in the UK Samsung and phone companies are treating it as a mandatory recall or saying you take full responsibility for anything that may happen due to the phone.
Link to where the CPSC says its mandatory?

Consumers should immediately stop using and power down all Galaxy Note7 devices, including Note7 devices received as replacements in the previous recall.
"should" is not a mandatory term.

I mean listen they are not going to physically come and take the phone away from you.
But now the Note 7 will be banned from trains, and planes, the carriers wont support the phone anymore, no updates etc....
If that stuff is not important to you than i dont see why you cant keep the phone.

the fact they have posted the recall it is telling you to return, they can't force you to if you don't want to but with a discontinued device you will lose all support and warranty as well as take full liability should the device cause any damage or injury down the road.

Any rumors about plans for a Note 7 DE?
I got the note 4 DE but sold it after a year cause I wanted to use the banking features and other stuff which even with root cloak it wouldn't work. I thought I would die without root as Ive had it on every phone ive ever had but its not so bad anymore. I just miss the customizations but its no big deal anymore.
I think the only benefits to root now are totally removing system apps and bloatware. Unless you're really into flashing or using a custom kernel, then it's not worth it.
You can remove ads with adguard, change your launcher to Nova and have it how you like, you can also block bloatware and system apps with certain apps as well.
While I do admit, for people that like to keep their phones for a long time, it's nice to be able to constantly update to the latest OS if you have a good community working on it, but I rarely keep phones past their end of update age. There was a time where I would refuse to buy a phone if it meant I couldn't root/flash a custom rom but I'm over that. Phones now have some great baked in features as is anyways, and it's worth it to keep them stock for me now. Just get anything that you know will be popular so it gets reliable updates.

I believe that they have stopped doing developers editions. I remember they pulled like 70ish models down one day from the developers' edition section on their site and haven't put any more up since. Nobody really knows what they did with them or why they stopped.
I was planning on buying another Note 4 DE so I kept tabs on the amount that was in stock. I'm guessing they will never have another DE model. I hope I'm wrong though.

I hope you're right, but I doubt it. Like I said before, they pulled like 70ish Developer's edition Note 4s off the shelf abruptly and haven't had one since. They also skipped the Note 5. I just can't see them jumping back in that boat. Hope I'm wrong though.

The 2nd recall initiated on October 13, 2016 is a global recall of all Note 7 devices - every last one of them no matter where they were sold - it says right at the top "Samsung Expands Recall to All Galaxy Note7 Devices" and that means all of them:
http://www.samsung.com/us/note7recall/
Since every last Note 7 should be returned, checking for the IMEI number is no longer relevant which is why Samsung removed that IMEI checker from the recall information page.
While a lot of people will keep their Note 7 devices for their own reasons, nobody actually should.

Voluntary is being confused in this situation - it does not mean it's up to you - it means the CPSC did not initiate the recall - Samsung did - hence voluntary. In other words Samsung has volunteered to recall the Note 7
When the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) finds fault or a potential for hazard in a certain product, they have the power to request a product recall. A product recall is a government issued request to return a batch of, or an entire production of, a defective product to the maker. While product recalls may be costly to a company and its reputation, they are overall helpful in limiting liability for corporate negligence.
In some cases, a firm or company may initiate a recall voluntarily—meaning without a mandate from the CPSC. Such recalls are often the product of a negotiation between the product manufacturer/retailer with the federal agency that oversees their product category’s safety. Almost all announced recalls are voluntary. Voluntary product recalls are considered to be safeguards against potential lawsuits and sticky legal situations.

I'm glad we have so many experts on here that want to act like our parents. Listen. I'm a grown ass man. When Verizon decides to unscrew us by blowing an upgrade and some crap that is almost a year old, I'll turn it in. Until then, I'll enjoy my note 7. Like I've said 100 times. It's yet to even get hot no matter what I try, and before they even recalled it, I had taken it into the sauna watching YouTube 3 times with 0 issues. I get its been recalled. I get I SHOULD return it. I get I can exchange it. If something happens, I will. Until then, mind your own damn business.

Maybe that's what it means but equally it could mean that recall is at the discretion of the device owner. Ambiguities are the last thing needed in a situation like this - thankfully, in UK law, they act against the drafter of the document and in the favour of the device owner (in this case).
I suppose that for us diehard Note keepers, we can say goodby to the idea of ever seeing Nougat? If Samsung says to return them all, I can't imagine they'll continue to support it.

Number 1 reason this whole thing sucks for me.
I am a Pilot with Air Canada.
During recall #1 when Samsung Canada was slow to react saying nothing was wrong with their phones I literally had to ask "are you willing to take the risk of my Note 7 having an incident in my flightdeck" to get somewhere.
I used an old phone until my replacement was ready ( I ordered directly from Samsung Canada and they refused to issue me a loner saying my phone was safe to keep using, even while I told them I AM AN AIRLINE PILOT). I have been using my new Note 7 but now I will have to stop again.
Yet again, Samsung Canada is behind the times (and will continue to be) and told me TODAY that my new Note 7 is perfectly safe and I should continue using it. Once again, telling them I AM AN AIRLINE PILOT went wooosh, right over their heads.
I am getting tired of this. If there is a second recall I am demanding a full refund for the phone and all accessories.

So, if you are pilot, you should never carry any device wilth lithium batteries, ANY lithium batt operated device has the chance of a burning event
I think OS updates are over rated anyway. I rarely update my devices - they are usually one, at most two year devices and if an update does come within the time I actually use the device, it usually has bugs that need to be worked out the first couple months and rarely is there enough upgrade anyway. Sometimes it makes the phone worse. I am on my original custom ROM on my Note 4 Dev edition. Disabled OTA apk's via titanium. I have disabled OTA's on my N7 via Package Disabler. Neither my replacement N7 nor my original N7 did I take the battery "fix" OTA. I froze that first off on my new N7 even though it had downloaded it I never installed the update. So I have no reason to take a VZ OTA and now I can root my N7 if I want to. Doubt that would effect the recall if I have to send my N7 back. I am fine with MM. I am fine with this phone as is - best phone in the world is good enough for me.

Can i please get some advice? (sorry a bit long but thought i need to provide the background info).
I have been given a Samsung Note 7 as a compensation-related gift by my network operator Vodafone and to cut a very long story short i have almost exhausted all possibilities with Vodafone and Samsung to get it exchanged for a different model or a credit.
I am currently looking at the possibilities of keeping my Note 7 if i feel i can assess (and possibly repair) it privately to confirm the safety implications and any other issues that may come up.
My questions are as follows:
1. Has anyone had success changing the Imei and model number? The reason is to protect myself from network barring and to retain app support. I have a previous Note and can use the imei. My plan was to change the model to G935F that of an S7 Edge. (There are some sites i came across but I wasn’t sure the guides were tested)
2. Can i root it and will i be able to update it regularly from core android?
3. Will the Wifi-calling feature work? Sounds like a small thing but its quite important. I have this feature on my Note 7 already and activated on my account and its very useful to me.
I live in the UK and I am an Engineer by trade. I worked for a cellular phone repair centre a number of years ago that specialised with Samsung and Nokia phones.
Whilst i have some experience and contacts in the industry, my knowledge of the current software/ firmware platforms on the market is limited so i would greatly appreciate any advice you can give.
Thanks in advance
not too sure about how you would transplant the hardcoded iemi number mate... are uk note 7s actually confirmed being banned?
You can root it and from that you can add features from the xposed library that will surely extend the life of your note 7 for years.. by which time the note 8 should be out in some form.
I read on maybe this site, or another, that someone had their Note 7 thinking it was the S7 yet still fully functioning as a Note 7 (Grace UI, etc)

Thanks for info. I'm not sure if they will fully inforce a ban but the procedure for returning the n7's is pretty much the same, minus the fire proof boxes (read into that what you like). I want to see what needs to be put in place if they do.

I'm trying to stoke up some support in the uk to appeal to Samsung to at least reassess the n7's already out there but there's only a few interested. I believe there is more support in the US which may provide a much stronger case.

The official release date in the UK for the Note 7 was next week, October 28th, which ironically was the same date as the Note 2 release, Note Edge release and Galaxy View release, just different years.
Call me crazy, I recognize a pattern here.
I am a serious Note user, so instead of following the crowd I will either consider the LARGE 18.4" Galaxy View or the 6" Curved Screen Huawei Mate 9. Hmmm, Mate, Note?
For some strange reason there aren't many Samsung Stylus Devices available, can't find the Note Pro 12.2 on sale anywhere. Something is definitely up. All I know is I feel sorry for those Pixel, iPhone 7, V20 blinded sheeple.

The recall is voluntary. Do not believe those people who say your IMEI will be blocked or barred. It will only be blocked if the phone was purchased in a payment plan and You fail to return it. Or if You fail to keep the payments. The recall is absolutely VOLUNTARY. Do not be afraid. Many of us are keeping the phone, because we know the risk is now minimal.
All electronics have the possibility to fail. All batteries have the risk of catching fires. This risk is a lot greater when the device begins their lifecycle. So now the risk is minimal. Samsung did not take "probability" into consideration before sending those replacement phones. Meaning if you had 50 in 2 million to catch fire with the original. Now you had 50+30* of catching fire in the replacement. (*More o Less)
Samsung has a great opportunity to collect data and usage information with us. Otherwise if people panic they will just scrap the Note Series all together.
Good Luck! ?

In short: No you can't change your IMEI, but that is not needed. If you don't want Samsung to directly know that your device is a Note 7, you need to change your device name in build.prop (but to do this you need root) and to deactivate software updates.
But I recommend you to not use the device. Samsung may not release any software updates, and the risk of exploding is still there. Even if the risk is very small, it can happen at any time, and the more time you spend with this device, the bigger is the risk.

Although Samsung wont provide updates will I be able to semi - regularly update it manually from stock? Eg nougat 7 was originally in the pipeline for the n7.
Also would wifi - calling get carried over/ integrated in the build?

You only can update it manually if some rom developers port firmwares from other Samsung devices to the Note 7 (if Samsung doesn't release updates). But that mostly is only possible for the same Android version, so there might never be a Nougat rom for Note 7. So then the only possibility to get a newer Android version is to use a AOSP / CM(14) based rom, if a developer created one for the Note 7. But without proper drivers by Samsung, that's difficult. And I think, the most developers are going to use other devices instead of risking a burning N7.

As of today the recall is only mandatory in Germany. Note 7 is banned on all flights in the US and part of Mexico. The mandatory recall will take time as the Consumer Product Safety Commission has to run a full investigation on the matter

I just want to be clear about something. You guys are from the UK, yes?
Is the recall not the same as the US or elsewhere where the recall is mandatory and not voluntary?

Hello from Singapore then.
I suppose you're keeping your unit then.
I'm just curious if you are going to update it to Widevine L1. I do use Netflix sometimes but I don't want to send them my phone and wait days for it. How do you feel about it?
In any way. Three months comes One plus 6. Unnecessary
I've got my RMA ready to send but really don't know. There's bad weather in the UK right now so I'm waiting a week at least. Have 30 days to send it in. Really want to hear other people's experiences.

The joke will be on you when the OP6 launches with Widevine L3 ?.
Seriously though, there is no guarantee that this company will ever release a Widevine L1 phone at launch, even with this half-assed L1 upgrade program that requires most of the world to ship their phone to OP.
Don't care and even if I did I wouldn't send it in....so nope!
I'm still unsure if I'm gonna send it in to OP. I don't care about Netflix HD but I'm kinda afraid that the option to update is limited.
Perhaps in the future other services require widevine L1 and then you won't be able to update anymore.
I want to use the phone for some years so it's important to me how this will be in the future.
Any opinions on that? Maybe someone can explain my thought is technically wrong?
sending back the device is a show stopper.

Widevine will only be used for DRM content. In the future, the only that I could see changing is that youtube requiring L1 to play HD content. And the process if really quick. It only took 3 days for me. I overnighted and the it back in 3 days.
Same thoughts of @Luuuk4s. Already sent back via RMA request. UPS took the parcel on Wednesday noon and Friday noon it was back in my hands!
I am considering it just to have a higher re-sale value.

I'll probably sell it on reBuy.de which buys old phones. There the selling value doesn't really change if you do not have Widevine L1.
The issue I have is that I don't know how long it'll take for my phone to return. I'm living in Austria and I assume that there is no OnePlus facility anywhere near me.
If YouTube ever requires Widevine L1 I can send it in anyway. Until then, I'm preffering watching Netflix on my TV or MacBook Pro

That's a pretty good reason to fear sending the phone in. I wouldn't want to risk international shipping, either.

Until YouTube starts charging money to watch their content instead of ads, they will not enforce DRM. That's the whole point of DRM, to protect from stealing paid content.

Hell-to-the-NO.
Good for the people who've done so without issues but no. It's not worth the risk for slightly a slightly, SLIGHTLY, better resolution when watching Netflix.

Yes, but it's more than double the resolution of other services like Vudu.. It makes a bigger difference, if you're into watching movies on your phone that is.
how to check if the phone has it? My phone has a production date of 8 March 2018...

Mine has it already. I had just bought a OP5T since my OP5 had a broken screen and the repair shop messed the repair up and had many Bluetooth and GPS issues too after that and a replica (read inferior) screen. Drove me mad. Moral of this story. New 5Ts have the Widevine DRM support out of the box.
Hi,
What does this means?
I am on latest Codename Phoenix.
