EDIT: See post #5. Samsung has multiple IMEI checkers for different countries, my google search led me to the wrong one.
Original Post starts here:
So I have a brand new, Verizon note 7, box has the black square, green battery icon.
After the reports this weekend, I thought "eh, I'll check". Using Samsung's IMEI check, it returns a message
Hold your horses.
It's either that the IMEI you entered is incorrect or device you are using might not be safe to use. If the latter is true and the device you have was obtained thru our Voluntary Replacement Program, power down your device and contact our Customer Service hotline at +63(2)422-2111 so we can sort things out as soon as possible.
If you have not yet availed of our Voluntary Replacement Program, we advise you to IMMEDIATELY POWER DOWN your Note7 device and get in touch with the entity from which you have obtained it so you could be assisted in getting a replacement unit or a different unit.

Yea, that's not good. I guess I'm exchanging it later today for an S7 Edge now.
(Curiously, when I called Samsung just now they said it wasn't on the list of recalled phones, and that mine was safe to use... so left hand not knowing what the right is doing?)
I would trust the green battery icon and black square over the imei checker.

Just goes to show how screwed Samsung has things when it comes to instilling trust with their customers when it matters most.

The imei checker actually allows for an option that you DO have an exchanged Note yet it is still a bad one? What if this is a new feature that indicates there will be another, limited recall?
update, turns out I may have used the wrong IMEI checker. the one I used was the first hit in google for my search:
http://www.samsung.com/ph/note7imeichecker/ and I read "/ph" as "phone".
The checker at http://www.samsung.com/us/note7recall/ one says that my phone is safe.
So...strange. If I were in the Philippines this phone is bad, in the US it's safe?

Maybe you got that error then because it's checking for a IMEI code that's linked with the Philippines but you're putting in a code that is for USA models and therefore is coming back as an incorrect IMEI hence the error message "It's either that the IMEI you entered is incorrect...". So most likely just that and not a screw up with the checker lol.

so kinda bothersome....but not really i dont guess....was following directions on droidlife to unlock bootloader. Noticed it said bootloader unlocked but went on anyway. typed fastboot oem unlock and it says error, already unlocked. Guess my nexus shipped already unlocked? Is this possible?
also under signing it says engineering....one in droid life photo says production....anybody else?
You have a protoype or dev phone. I have one as well. It doesn't really make a difference because these bootloaders can be locked again (I think).
Not sure about you, but I wouldn't enjoy having an engineering model. Never know what could happen in the future depending on how new or old it is. Where did you get it from?
I purchased from verizon store yesterday.....build date of 11/18 I think it said
So you are saying that from the very first boot you had the white unlock icon on the startup screen where it says GOOGLE in white?
I doubt you got a dev or proto...
maybe someone returned one? or maybe ur sales rep unlocked it for you (lol)
if it bothers you return it and unlock it yourself lol

Hi,
I bought my nexus in Germany (Saturn stores). I just found out that my GN was also unlocked. I never flashed a phone before so i was not sure what to make out of it.
And indeed now that you say it the white GOOGLE text has come up on boot from the first time i booted him.
So any cool things i can do with a dev phone? Any disadvantages?

Bump,......
It doesnt say Engineer with me... :/
I recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S II T989 off of craigslist. It was described as Brand New, and came with box and all original accessories, etc. Still had screen protectors and everything on it, so i assumed i would have no problems. I am using AT&T and wanting to unlock it so that i wouldn't have to switch carriers. I paid a pretty reputable website 25$ for the unlock code, which i received and entered as directed.
I attempted to enter my SIM and i get an invalid SIM message. I called Samsung to figure it out and they had me send them the phone. They received it and inspected it to ensure nothing was wrong. They then tested the IMEI which came back as a black-listed phone, but would not disclose the reason.
So t-mobile will offer me no help what so ever, nor will samsung. I try calling the *#7465625# number to test if the phone is unlocked, but i get an error message stating "The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly" and i have only one option which is force quit. I used the factory reset option a couple times to see if this helped at all, and got nothing.
I only have experience with iphones, so i really know nothing about the android OS. I've heard a lot about "rooting" and such for the unlock but it's like a whole different language for me. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. This phone has just been sitting in my drawer for the past month because i have absolutely no idea what to do.
Sounds to me like you may have bought a phone that someone perhaps filled an insurance claim on. I know I had a phone taken once and filed a claim on it and got a new one, eventually got the old one back and when a friend took it in it was taken on the spot. This may or may not be the case.
Yup sounds like someone bought a phone, Reported it lost,Kept the replacement, and sold you the stolen one. The same thing happened to me about a year ago with a HTC G2 from craigslist. You could try rooting (really not as scary as it seems) putting a new ROM then try to unlock again

That is what i'm assuming the case is. I've heard of friends and such running into the problem, but never thought i would fall victim to it.
Do you know where i might be able to find a rooting guide for a complete noob like myself? Step by step in depth kind of stuff? Would the fact that the phone is blacklisted cause me to get the error i'm getting whenever i try to test the unlock? Is it possible to unlock the phone for another GSM carrier even though it is blacklisted with t-mobile.
Explore all the options of getting your money back. If no good, you can always try to get someone to chqnge the imei for you, beware tho, its same illegal as changing vin plate on a car. Theoretically noone will help you, but practically, there are plenty shops selling nintendo cardridges with 100 original games in one...

You cannot ask on here how to fix this problem. It is against the rules, and illegal. This thread will be closed.. Just saying.
Ebay it with bad efs in the title, sell for parts, will probably get a coupe hundred for it. Don't buy a phone off frauds list unless you meet them at the retail store and have the number ran. At least then if they report it stolen you have some record of the transaction and may be able to get it UN black listed. Crappy situation that is for sure.

As stated, the course of action you were proposing is illegal and therefore discussing it on the forum will not be tolerated.

Today Samsung requested all the Samsung Note 7 Owners to Switch off their phone and stop using it.
I have a Note 7 Hongkong version SM-N9300, Which has a Green Battery and the Faulty Tests shows that my phone is NOT among the Affected ones.
My Question is "IS IT SAFE TO USE MY PHONE NOW?

As far as I know the actual recall is currently in the US only (Not Australia, according to Samsung. I asked them) however I'd guess it's going to be worldwide very soon. And this includes all the replacement ones that were deemed "safe".
So, your Note 7 will /probably/ be recalled soon enough. Nobody can tell if your phone is safe though. Impossible to know.

Samsung Hong Kong just announced earlier for all people with HK Note 7s to stop using and return the phone. To be honest, the potential battery problem ALWAYS included China and HK phones, Samsung's HK and China divisions were just shady as hell and kept selling on September 2 when Samsung headquarters first announced they made a huge mistake. Samsung HK has been getting killed online by people for weeks for seemingly apathy. I'm surprised they acted so soon this time to echo what the rest of the world is doing.
so long story short, no, your HK note is included in the call for return. All note 7s are. the phone is done.
Well my Note 7 is perfectly fine. The battery and everything is perfectly fine. NO HEAT ISSUE. i am trying to contact the person who sold it to me to check what the supplier stand on this.
Anyways thanks everyone.
I just wonder the problem is not the battery but rather the processor.
The one in China are not exynos which produce more heat
The Recall is GLOBAL, as in INTERNATIONAL. NO SAMSUNG NOTE 7 IS SAFE! RETURN IT!
Seems to me this forum is frequented by Samsung-haters and/or trolls.

All the stuff you mention sounds really shady, as all demo units are not to be used as regular ones, in other words, the demo units are issued to carriers and official distributors, and never intended to be sold to public, thence, having one is not normal, no help will be offered here, as it is illegal in most countries to tamper IMEI numbers, which is a common practice with stolen and red flagged devices, next time gather enough money to buy a legal device
@ farhan_ali790 - Some things you have been saying within regards to this phone are quite unsettling. Either your mistaking what phone you really have, a communication/detail issue, or you got the phone second hand and this is the way it was when you got it.
Either way the following will be of interest:
If you have a demo phone then it should not work on the cellular network. Those are for demonstration purposes so people can see what the phone looks like, see how the screen looks and get a chance to use the apps on it. For this reason the phone was made in such a way that the ability to connect to the cellular network will not work. If you truly and really do have a demo phone then it will not be able to access the cell network.
If your claim is you have a demo phone and that it is showing (or had the IMEI number changed/patched to show) as a N975F and your talking about a patched IMEI number then sorry, but your most likely out of luck here. The discussions of tampering or altering an IMEI number are not allowed due to such actions being illegal in a lot of places. Contact the person whom patched the IMEI for you for help on this one.
It has been mentioned numerous times that flashing a bootloader higher then what is currently on the phone is a one way street. You can not downgrade the bootloader. Please take the time to do some research on the subject if you have further questions on it.

If the phone is showing that message and was purchased off of eBay, then the phone was stolen from a business. The phone cannot be utilized as it will be flagged and will have its IMEI blacklisted after some time. That message you are seeing confirms that.
Unfortunately for you, there is no work around to resolve this - as theft isn't a 'real' phone problem. The protection with phone management is just a corporate move to give companies more control over the devices that they purchase. So essentially, there is a much lower chance of them being stolen. Because once they are stolen, they're basically just local music players that cannot be utilized as a cellphone and will automatically wipe themselves clean on a timely basis (once they are reported as being stolen).

Thanks vor your reply,
i donĀ“t think the phones was stolen because the selers of this phones is a company in Germany and they have more than 50 pieces of this phones, They wrote on the listing that the phones was used only for demostration purposes , so google will not remove the mdm lock if i contact them on the geving email adress?
If the device is truly legally sold, you need to get into contact with the seller to see if they can release it from their MDM server. If they cannot, only they can be the ones to contact Google. Google will NOT help you if you do not have the original purchase order from when it was MDM enrolled. Even if the user has a ton of devices for sale, that doesn't mean they were acquired legitimately. It's possible they were supposed to be destroyed and kept enrolled to prevent them from being resold, which is what sounds most likely to me. As someone who works in IT asset management, the ONLY reason we leave our devices DEP or MDM enrolled is to prevent someone from snagging it before we dispose of it.
