Has Google completely abandoned Nexus 7? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I am not talking about Nougat; I am talking about security updates.
Until October, 2016, I received small monthly security patches on my Nexus 7 (2013). On September, there was no patch, and that was when Google made clear that Nexus 7 would not get Nougat. Does this mean that Google has completely abandoned the Nexus 7 (2013), and will no longer provide security patches for it?

The Nexus 7 '13 was released on July 26, 2013. Google promised 3 years of security patches from the product release date, or 18 months from when they leave the Google Store, whichever is longer. They pulled the N7 '13 from the Store at the end of April last year, so they are obligated to about 2 weeks more support, then we're done. So, we should receive the OCT 16 security patch, and that will be it for the N7 '13.

Thank you. So, basically, all Nexus 7 users would need to switch to CyanogenMod from November, if they do not want security breaches.

I've been told that Google has stopped giving official updates but they are still keeping the device tree and kernel up to date for those who want to build the newest android for themselves. N 7.0 is already available for the 2013 nexus 7

Is another Google Nexus on the verge so soon ?

I just came across this story and became sad after reading it.

I assumed that Google Nexus phones would be refreshed every two year once, but it seems another Nexus phones could be released within this year itself. [emoji22] [emoji22] [emoji22]

It seems the trend goes back even farther than that, the earliest Nexus devices were released in winter, at the start and end of 2010 respectively:
- Nexus One (HTC): January 5, 2010
- Nexus S (Samsung): December 16, 2010
Also the original Android phone was launched in the fall:
- HTC Dream: October 22, 2008
(The HTC Dream isn't really a Nexus, but I think it wanted to be one; it was Google branded, and it ran stock Android.)
But people where touting that Nexus 5 was replaced only after 2 years with 5x after two years.
But i was disappointed to see 5x to be replaced so soon.

I think you're looking at it wrong as "replacement". there's no reason to think that *just because* another 5" version of the Nexus phone will be released this year that the the 2015 5X will suddenly be obsolete.
It not at all unexpected either..pretty much all flagship phone brand lines are updated annually.
I have the 5x and I already want a new device. Come on it was only like 300+ on super Thursday. Then I can give this beauty to the Mrs and bye bye vzw. Fi is the only way to go.

Can the nexus 5x will get major update in the future?

will it still get updated in 3 years time after google just announced their pixel.??can this device get android 7.1 7.2.... and android O in the future?some one tell that this phone Nexus 5x will get the major Android update till October 2017 and security patches till October 2018 and this is guaranteed.

Updates are guaranteed for 2 years since original release I believe. So yes, 2017 for major ones at least.

Updates Cycle... by OP

Hi all..
I've just bought a Nokia 7Plus and love it's updates cycle among many other things.
But now I feel I should have waited for OP6 ( my earlier phone had broken in April and thought OP6 would come after June end).
Just one question-
How is the security updates cycle of OnePlus?
Do they make you wait like Honor and HTC or are they better?
Thanks
Up to op5t (and disregarding the current state of the op3/t), they've made you wait up to 2 months or so for a new security patch.
Now, on the stable branch, the op3 hasn't been updated in 4 months, while on the beta branch it's on last month's security patch. The op5/t both are on last month's security patch on both the stable and beta branch.
It's up to anybody's guess whether they'll take better care with the op6, but Google would like to make the companies which sell treble enabled phones and have Android P available on them to keep up with the security updates.
I hope this cleared up any question you had.

There will still be development since Google stopped suporting Pixel ?

guys will there still be new custom roms, new builds and a lot of development now that the device is not anymore supported by google ? will there be android 10 custom roms when it will come out or it will be impossible since there will be no more official google updates ?
Is Google really dropping the Pixel exactly 24 months after launch?
I thought it on the radar for longer
i heard they stop development on updates in october, they will still update the security patch till october 2019, but i was wondering if indie developpers will still take time to build roms on it or they will consider it as a lost of time
Devs will still support the device if they own it.
Pretty crazy how quickly these things depreciate. Used Pixel XLs are going for pennies.

Well, security updates and bug fixes should be available for one more year, till October 2019, just no new major OS updates - Pie is final for Pixel / Pixel XL First Gen. Officially.
It will be always an update to the next major OS (10)
Pixel devices are well known by the dev so no problem to custom roms

Question December Update for p6 and p6 pro, anyone got it?

I know we might have to wait to mid or late Dec for it but anyone got it as of now for p6 or pro?
