Guys here's the thing. Android N on my N5X. When trying to install TWRP 3.0.2.2 through Nexus Root Toolkit it first boots up the recovery then when I reboot to system and back there is no TWRP. But it remains there when I use the Root button which roots and installs custom recovery. So when I have root I have TWRP. Can't I have TWRP without root I wonder?

Doesnt the toolkit have a check box to install a script or whatever to patch the system so the recovery wont be over written? Mine has it in flash recovery option!
I'm experiencing this issue as well. I tried to install TWRP after installing that October security updates. I wonder if there's something in the update that is preventing TWRP from installing?

It has something called perm.flash.recovery.zipor something which is described to do the thing you said but the problem is when the phone gets the" flash perm.flash.recovery.zip" it does nothing. It does nothing even when I try to flash it manually when I get the "trial" TWRP which disappears after rebooting.
Had the same problem. I solved it by using the old fashioned way, with fastboot commands found on the TWRP page: https://twrp.me/devices/lgnexus5x.html
Of course, I used the last image: twrp-3.0.2-2-bullhead.img

So i went through the rooting process just fine. Go to install TWRP with the Install TWRP app. When i get to the install part, i choose the recovery version to install then click install recovery, reboots found then i get a dead android with a red triangle.
From what i assume something is locked. the bootloader i believe?
I've searched and searched and all i can seem to come up with is having to downgrade to kitkat. Is this true and no way around it?
I think you are on lollipop .. Cos it doesnt work on lollipop
forget about twrp manager. use auto rec to get custom recovery.

Hi all,
after I had a full crash while I was trying to update 4.0.0 -> 4.0.1 I now installed all from the scratch.
I now try to get root for it. I installed TWRP (twrp-3.0.2-1.28-oneplus3.img) ... opening it it asks me to bring in a PIN. every PIN I enter is wrong. If I choose cancel I am in. But System is accessable.
Anybody can post a real HowTo for getting root (SuperSU) in OxygenOS 4.0.1
Thanks in advance
After you flash the rom, flash SuperSU immediately. Then reboot to recovery, NOT to system.
If the phone stuck, force reboot by pressing power& vol.- . Reflash recovery, reboot to recovery, reboot to system.
Adb Sideload SuperSu via TWRP

can you explain me what the purpose of rebooting into recovery after flashing supersu and not to system?
On some roms, you have to instal SuperSu, before first boot. Or you will not have root.
Some rooms will mess up recovery if youre first boot it's in system & not to recovery. You reboot, to recovery, first, to be shure that you have a working recovery.
This is how I did: upgraded to OOS 4.0.1, flashed the latest TWRP (3.0.3-0), copy & paste SuperSU to internal storage then flashed it through TWRP. Everything works fine.
Now I'm trying to figure out how to decrypt this phone because OOS 4.0.1 converts the Data partition file system to F2FS. I'm a heavy user of MultiROM, that's the reason for decrypting.
Hi everyone,
I found similar threads here on the forums, but none of them solved my problem!
My Zenfone 2 (Z00A/ZEE551ML) keeps bootlooping into TWRP, the cause of this issue is when i try to flash the SuperSU v2.8 zip!
My TWRP is 3.1.1, when i flash either Lineage 14 or AOSP/XOSP it boots normally into the OS, but the moment when I install SuperSU the bootloop happens (and yes, I've tried to flash it before and after the first boot of the OS, and it didn't work for either one of these methods)! The problem is that I want to use AOSP and I need Root access, and it doesn't come Rooted out of the box, unlike Lineage. Does anyone have any ideas how to solve this?
Thanks in advance!

Apparently.... my phone refuses to install TWRP 3.0.2......
I'm doing all the steps that I'm used to.... Enable Debugging on dev. options.... adb reboot fastboot.... fastboot flash recovery "TWRP 3.0.2" and it's sucessful....
However... when i try to boot into recovery, the phone goes back to fastboot (although, i can boot it to system normally).
I tried flashing 3.1.1 back again and it worked, it went back to 3.1.1 .... so I'm back at square one.

Check the following topic and download VerifiedBootSigner-v8.zip
https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...signing-boot-images-android-verified-t3600606
Flash SuperSU and don't reboot yet.
Flash VerifiedBootSigner-v8.zip and then reboot.
Let me now if it worked. I had the same problem after installing Magisk. Resigning the bootimage fixed the problem for me.

I've had the same problem and your solution fixed it!
Thank you very much, sir! :good:
I have a Pixel C, rooted using the Nexus Rootkit, TWRP and SuperSU.
All was fine and was on build N2G48C.
I had an OTA notification for Oreo, so I downloaded the OPR6.170623.010 Oreo OTA file, and used FlashFire to apply this.
Now everytime it reboots it goes past the Google logo, then to the "waiting for fastboot command" screen. I've tried rebooting to Recovery and I get the same thing!
Google didn't seem to help, so please can anyone else help?
I was manually flashing rather then using flashfire, but I was getting the same problem. First, flash just the stock room (no root or TWRP) and check that it boots. Mine would, but every time I tried to flash TWRP, it would bootloop to fastboot.
You may want to download the full rom, not just the ota. You can modify the flash batch file to not wipe the tablet, or just flash the components.
What was finally successful for me was to flash TWRP and NOT let it finalize. It should ask if you want to mount R/W so it can keep the rom from overwriting the recovery. I told it no, then flashed the Magisk zip for root. I haven't tested SuperSU, but just replace it here to try. This got me a proper boot to Oreo, with Magisk working correctly.
If I understand it right, and I haven't booted to recovery to check, the rom will likely have overwritten TWRP. Worst case, I have to reflash recovery whenever I want to do a backup or update my rom, but that isn't something I do often on this tablet.
I have an ATT LG V40 on android 8.1. The phone is already rooted and has magisk installed. I have been unable to get TWRP installed so I can flash a custom rom. It seems that being on android 8.1 is causing issues, but I am not really sure. I followed this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/twrp-lg-v40-judypn.3970111/ and when I send the comand to flash TWRP in the command window is says the flash is finished and my phone boots up, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
You need to use LGUP to get to 9
Noob question but did you installed and tried magisk manager(I bet you already have) and flashify(searchable on Google) (magisk manager grants root to flashify and flashify installs twrp from storage)?
Are you certain that you're booting in to recovery? Many phones have an advanced reboot menu option on the developer settings. If yours doesn't I recommend an app like Simple Reboot.
If you're not certain that it's installing the recovery correctly have you just tried installing TWRP.zip from Magisk?

Which 'command', specifically, are you typing in when you say you are 'when I send the command to flash twrp'? The only command in those directions are to boot twrp, not flash it.
After you boot it, then you need the advanced section so you can recovery ramdisk, which will inject twrp into the current boot partition (and it keeps boot intact).
If you want to use current aosp roms, then follow the 'metadata' sections as you'll need that version of twrp for those roms.
