MTP woes Can't get the phone to connect to Win 10 - Sony Xperia M5

Tried a few tis from on line. Have Sony Companion installed but no matter what i do i can't see the phone now. It was OK before Marshmallow.
Any tips please.

Tap on the notification where it says 'USB Charging'. And it will show you the different modes as MTP, Camera or the only charging option.

Nothing to do with that. It won't CONNECT, so in the browser, Windows doesn't see the phone . MTP driver do not install.

Problem with USB connection

My phone is always loosing connection USB connection to my PC after 3 or 4 times...then I need to reinstall the drivers. My PC finds the phone but the "USB connection" pop up on the phone doesn't appear...it's like that for a few weeks now, before that it always workd fine...
PC is Windows 7. Phone is HTC desire. "Question" is enabled, standard is "just loading". I changed the USUB cable already, that was not the fault. PC is recognizing the HTC Desire as "Android Phone", that works ALWAYS. I just can't access the SD-Card from my phone because the phone pop up is missing. Setting the "mount as HDD" doesn't help either. The phone is loading though.
In Windows 7 have you tried locating the SD Card (usually F:/ Drive) in Windows Explorer? Sometimes, depending on settings, the pop up window may not appear (you may have accidentally selected a default action for it, for example).
EDITED: I'm guessing you have debugging selected if the PC is recognising the phone so, just a thought, have you tried putting the SD Card in a reader to see if the PC can recognise it at all?
No, debugging is not activated. With "pop up" I was referring to the missing "pop up" (in the status bar) on the phone, not in the PC, sorry for that. I just found something out however: Plugged in the phone, same as ever, it's loading but no USB connection detected on the phone side. Restarted the phone WHILE it's still plugged in and directly after the restart the "ask me" notification pops up. Mounted the SD card and it works...
Activate usb debugging.
Swyped from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
I did. Currently it's working, but that's just a workaround, not a fix, isn't it?

There is no disadvantage in activating usb debugging (At least, I do not know anyone), so I think one could call it a "fix".
It's not a fix because it's not working anymore...again! It shows USB DEBUGGING CONNECTED in the status bar but the "ask me" notification isn't coming so I can't mount it as HDD. Man, that's getting real annyoing...
After a restart of the phone while it's connected it's working again..."ask me" popping up right after launch. -.-

Is "Autoplay" working for you in Windows 7?

As title says, when you plug in your Galaxy Nexus into your Windows 7 PC, do you get the autoplay window? Whatever I do, I cannot simply get it to show. The reason I want this is for the new Dropbox beta where you can receive more storage by simply testing their camera upload feature.
What I have done so far:
- Uninstalled and reinstalled the Samsung official drivers
- Uninstalled Samsung Kies
- Set ALL the options in AutoPlay configuration (control panel) to "Ask me every time"
- Rebooted the computer between all of the steps above
- Turned off USB Debuggig or switched to PTP instead of MTP
I am using the "Samsung Android ADB driver".
So. Does it work for you guys? If it does, please post what driver you are using and if you can come up with any troubleshooting hints for me. Google could not help me this time. Thanks in advance
I get autoplay just fine, unless I turned it off.

It's definitely turned on. What driver are you using?
News: I tested it on my GFs laptop and autoplay is working there... Maybe I should uninstall the Samsung driver altogether. I'll give it a shot.
Uninstalling the Samsung Driver did not help.
When your phone is plugged in, do you get a menu entry for "Autoplay" if you right click the "Galaxy Nexus" device under "Computer"? I dont...

Thats only valid for drives or devices assigned drive letters.
Go under your autoplay settings and check them.
I get it, win7 64 bit.
I got my drivers via a pdanet install, haven't tried any others.
Plugged my GNex into parent's laptop (Win7 64bit) to give them some pictures, autoplay popped up and pics transferred just fine.
I am having problems with the autorun feature in W7 finding photos on my Galaxy Nexus also.
When I look in AutoPlay options page I see multiple selections for our camera, my old droid, my Gnex and my old Blackberry.
I am thinking these drivers are causing problems. How do you clear out these old drivers?
on Win7: Start>Default Programs>Change AutoPlay Settings. check if your GN is there and you can change the autoplay option.

Samasung J2 not able to connect with PC?

Hello i h' a relatively new phone Samsung J2 which is just 9 month old.
I didn't have this problem before, but i do now. My Samsung will not want to connect with Pc anymore.
I am using Wondershare MobileGo 7.9.2 just 2-3 hours back i was able to connect and i had to remove the USB cable in n out quite a few times. But it did connect and during that time there was this message called "RSA key fingerprint" and the option to "Always allow from this computer" option, which i had check marked; and pressed ok.
But after 1-2 hrs, i tried to connect with the pc again (just to see if it works) and i don't see the "RSA fingerprint" display option anymore. I believe it is only a one time job, once you check mark the " Always allow from this computer" option. The mobile with the Wondershare MobileGo software would recognise the hardware and the drivers would have been preinstalled after i went through the above mentioned process. I can't think of any other way. Is there any thing that i can do to make it connect with pc.
Thank you for taking out the time to read this post, any suggestion is welcomed.
ps: There is also an option to "Revoke USB Debugging authorization" option, which i didn't mess up.
The USB Debugging option is turned on so i can connect with the pc.
I always had this kind of situation with this mobile in the past too.
Any suggestion welcomed.

USB Connection problem

Hello!
I really hope someone can help me out on this.
I have just bought a Lenovo P2a42 and everything works fine, except that I cannot connect it to my computer via USB cable.
I tried different known working cables on different known working machines (win 7 & 10) with no success.
It looks like the phone stuck at "charge only" USB mode, the PC does not even react when phone is connected, only on the phone I can see it is charging.
So it is not a driver issue, as it looks like the PC does not even know about a phone is connected.
I tried to change USB Connection mode under Developer options, and nothing happened. However, it was strange, that if I change the USB mode from "Charge only" to MTP, after selection made, the text label under this option in the Developer options remained "charge only", and only if I go back and forth one level (to settings menu and then back to developers menu) it shows the MTP setting I have set earlier.
It is weird, but for me it looks like as the phone stuck at charge only mode, and I cannot switch between USB connection modes.
There is no notification at all about USB if I connect the cable.
I have made a factory reset on the phone, and nothing changed.
My P2 is running android 7.0.
Do you guys have any idea? I'm really desperate on this.
Thanks in advance for any tip!

I seem to have this problem also because of the above i am unable to get adb working properly although drivers are setup.
I fixed it now by using the PDAnet program which found and installed some android drivers after which the phone is recognised properly as Lenovo p2 and is picked up in adb as attached device.

I think it's because you must install to your PC mtp drivers.
Thanks for your answer, but unfortunately, no. As I mentioned, there is no communication between phone and PC.
With a missing driver, you can see your unknown USB device in device manager.
BTW, since then I have returned the phone to seller, and they confirmed, that the USB port of the phone is faulty (data pin connection to phone motherboard is faulty)
They are now working on the repair and will be done by tomorrow.

Finally I contacted seller and send it back for repair.
They confirmed that one leg of the USB motherboard connector was detached from the board.
They replaced the connector, and now it's just working as it should.
Have a nice day!

Connecting to PC - not recognised on Win10

Had my A70 since July time, no issues so far, except for now. First time I needed to connect to my PC, Win 10 comes up with the 'WIndows didn't recognise the device' error. Have tried 2 different USB cables thinking it might be that but no different. Then I plugged my partners identical phone into the PC and it recognised it straight away so am assuming that there's no issue with the PC itself in terms of drivers etc. USB configuration/connections settings on both phones are identical, i. e. 'Transferrring files'. Tried Developer options with USB debugging on, I get connection sounds but eventually the error message on the PC. Anyone had similar or any ideas what the issue with my phone might be because i'm stumped?
OK, sussed it. With phone connected to PC I turned it OFF. Then turned it on again still connected. PC recognised something as an ADB device and said I needed to restart the PC, which I did. On restart, Device manager showed a Samsung Mobile USB Composite device connected but still didn't show in Windows Explorer. I disconnected the phone from PC and then plugged it back in again, this time I got a message on the phone asking me if I wanted to allow connections, I pressed 'Allow' and there it was.
Didn't have to do this with my partners phone so have no idea why mine should be any different!
