No sim card :( - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Over the past couple weeks I've started having issues with keeping a signal.
My device d852 rooted have had multiple custom roms installed on this device. Currently on canadian telus 6.0 debloated rom.
But no matter what rom I use i get the same issue, device goes either to emergency calls only mode until i restart then only connects for a few minutes then disconnects or no sim card detected and device reboots. I have tried multiple basebands, modems etc. To no avail.
Anyone else have the same issue or fix. Please help as phone is unusable with this issue. thanks in advance.

I have a d855, using stock v30b rooted, and I've had the exact same issue. I tried several things but nothing worked. The problem comes and goes incessantly.
I tried :
-resetting
-removing and putting the sim back
-using another sim
-shimming the sim with adhesive tape
-doing a factory reset
This is very annoying. The problem appeared yesterday morning out of the blue, and I did not change a single thing. My phone had been working flawlessly for months with the same rom and configuration. If anyone can help resolving this issue it would be great.

its same happen to me . after few weeks install cm13
never been like this before. I previously used cloudyg3 1 years works great

I've searched and searched many have exact issue and still no resolution from anyone. Just trial and error, such as replacing sim, tape on sim, as a last resort replace sim tray, But issue still exists, does anyone have a resolution?

Also coming here with this same issue. I have resurrection remix mod. Sim card stopped reading on Friday.
Software related..?

Hopefully and hopefully it will be addressed. If not and I have to replace the sim tray I will be leaving the g3 behind.

Tried factory reset, same issue. Tried dirty flashing to Fulmics, but Fulmics mod would just crash phone repeatedly "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped" and other messages.

add me to the group with the same problem.
d852 here.
removing si works for a bit and then out again. swapped sims and tested on another device and it worked fine.

Well I have same problem. From my experience, this problem happen when your LG G3 overheated. Not sure this is hardware or software issue (I was add small paper on SIM Card in case the SIM Card pins broken but still got this error). Also avoid restart your G3 because there is 70-90% your phone fails to detect your SIM Card. But now my G3 D855 suddenly working again with SIM Card (seems my phone restarted itself overnight and I was removed the paper on SIM Card before).

I tried cleaning Sim and area with alcohol, also bent back some of the connector pins, got it to read SIM card briefly but For SMS only, no data. then tried to fix again, stopped reading Sim card. tried to fix again, now it detects Sim card but permanently 0 service, not even sms.
my phone did overheat recently, like 1 week ago. not sure if it's related.
ill try swapping to a new Sim to see if it helps. even after bending pins back more and trying again, phone still detects SIM but permanent 0 bars. maybe new Sim will help connectors read it. current Sim card does work fine on my other old LG G3 so it's likely either phone hardware issue or phone software issue, not SIM, but maybe it will at least help the hardware read it easier with a fresh Sim.
i have another phone and could take the Sim card slot from that and swap, but I looked at videos and it looks extremely difficult. need a heat gun or soldering or something, it's not as easy as just turning screws and popping out parts.

If it yours sim connecteor just see this video it may help you.

thanks Farhan. tried this paper trick several times but didn't help at all. I also tried manually pressing down Sim card to connectors while starting up phone, no difference. I did manually bend back some pins and it helped a little but is now back to permanent 0 service.

Make sure ur sim is proberly connecting pin

did not know about that secret menu, thanks. unfortunately turning radio off and on did not help.
how can I see if pins are making connection to Sim? it's very difficult to see. bottom 4 pins seem to be making connection fine,at least they are poking up before I insert Sim, then I can't see. top 4 pins I cannot see well.

Place a piece of paper while inserting ur sim and make it tight well give give couple of minutes after power on and try *#*#4636#*#* again

I'm starting to think that this issue has something to do with some of the phone components not aging well. Since the software did not change, there must be something in the hardware that is not functioning properly. I hope we can identify the exact source of this problem, I want to keep using my G3. It's served me very well for 2 years now.

Brought phone into Verizon and got a new SIM, still no fix. Been messing with the pins and still switches between not reading at all, or reading SIM and havnig no service. At best I can get it to give me SMS service but not Data service. Not sure which pins represent which services (SMS/Calls vs Data), would be interesting to see so I could focus on just those.

stuck phone in freezer for 15 minutes and it's working temporarily. i was desperate. will continue messing with paper trick and report back.

used paper trick after it was working, paper made it actually stop working. took paper out and tried again, now its reading SMS/Voice again but no data. not sure why paper seems to make it worse, but it has happened every time.

thank you Farhan. I got Sim working with text/call but no LTE, then used the secret menu radio on and off trick you said and it turned my data back on! not sure how long it will last but I will keep this thread updated.
needed to mess with the pins a bit to have it read again in the first place

Guys it's worldwide problem with G3.
I have been suffering with signal for over 6 months now.First it started with no signal on 3g/4g network. And it all started out of nowhere.
Past three days i only get restarts and no signal even in 2g network.i might get 5 6 hours signal a day which is horrible.
From what i have read online all issues started after 2 years of using the phone.I am not saying it applies to all phones but Lg did something to screw the components after a certain time.
I have tried a few guides here in xda and no luck.i have even sent it on 3 different mobile repair services who had boxes and they told me they cant do it.

I just tested my phone with different roms, including CyanogenMod 13 and Fulmics. Same problem with all of them, which confirms my idea that this is a hardware problem.

Help ! Xda Orbit (ARTE200) - No Sim Detected

Something strange happened to my Artemis, I was charging the phone with the original charger, whilst the phone was turned on.
I may have left it charging a few hours longer even after the charge light turned green.
I removed it from the charger, then it intermitently displayed no service, and then searching for network, and remained in service for a few minutes and then it repeated the whole process for about 5 - 6 times and then it displayed "No Sim"
The sim card works on other phones, but no matter whatever sim card i put into the artemis, it still cannot detect any of them.
I tried bending the contacts up a bit to help connection, and even tried slipping paper behind the sim card to push the sim card into the contacts more
nothing worked, I am not sure what else to do other than re-flash the rom,
has anyone experienced similar problems, please. I really want to get the phone function/sim detection working again.
Cheers
Change simcard i have the same problem with my XDA Orbit ( HTC Artemis)

how long have you had the phone? if no sim works i'd of thought the phone has had it
mine started going funny as i was switching between o2 and orange sims a lot, after a while it had difficulty finding the sim, but always worked after inserting/removing the sim a few times
i had my phone warranty repaired with o2, considering i'd already renewed my contract was surprised they still did it, but 2 years is 2 years warranty thats the only thing i can think of?
ive had this prob with my orbit,i ended up hard reseting the phone for it to recognise the sim

One V not recognizing any sim card, sim slot is dead?

Hey, I have my One v for about half a year now, and it worked perfectly with one sim, few weeks ago I changed to a different service provider, and the sim worked fine too.
Few days ago, I look at my phone and the bars just start to disappear, until it got to a state where I couldn't receive calls, SMS, surf the 3g web and so on. This morning (and yesterday's evening) I had bars fro few minutes, then it simply showed the name of the provider in the notification area, now there's just "no service". I tried swapping Sim's with my sister, which has the same phone - my sim worked on her phone, her sim didn't work on mine.
So my lucky guess is that the sim slot is dead, I wanted to know if there's any solution I should try before sending it to a store to find out wat is happen, or I should just do that and forget about it. Also, if the sim slot if dead, how much will it cost approximately to fix it?
Slot may not connect - maybe it's time to use "toilet paper solution" (as originally named for Nokia N900)? You should make piece of paper the same size as sim card and insert it with SIM card to slot to hold it with connectors and disallow separation. If not working experiment with paper with other thickness or size. Try this one and say about any changes.
And try with prepaid / old card
it may seem obvious, but have you already tried cleaning the sim slot by blowing all the dust out of it? that used to fix this sort of problems in my dumbphone.
Which nmforu
I owe my life to trees everywhere. Thank you dskowronski! it worked! tried doing what you told me, second time it worked - then I tried without the paper and voila!

[Q] LG E971 WifiéSim card issues

Hi guys,
I hope this is the right forum. My wife has been having issues with her LG Optimus G E971. The phone reboots every 15 minutes or so due to a sim card dislodge error. I tried restarting, re-inserting but nothing has worked so far. Also, her phone has been unable to connect to WIFI for the past few days. The phone is on a authenticate and saving loop and wont connect for some reason. Hoping anyone can give tips or help regarding this issue. The phone is stock, locked to Rogers.
thanks
I am having the same problems with WiFi every once in a while. Seems to just go away after several retries, or after restaring the phone. I have no idea what's causing this. Luckily, it doesn't happen often, and is not a huge issue...
As for the SIM card issue, it seems like a mechanical problem to me. Did you cut the card yourself (it can be tricky), or was it an original micro-SIM? It may be a loose fit of the card to the tray, if dimensions are off. Otherwise, it may be a problem with contacts, or the tray itself could be loose in the socket. In these cases, professional service (warranty?) is probably your best bet, unless you are comfortable fiddling with it yourself. I can tell you that getting to the guts of the SIM card socket of the OG is not exactly a trivial task...
Thanks for your response Froggy. I tried connecting the LG to my HTC one via wifi-hotspot and it worked. So, it appears the problem is communication between the LG and the router I guess. Not sure where to go from here though. I also tried reinserting the sim tray and no problems so far. Hopefully the problem just goes away.

[Q] Unable to detect sim card

I bought my note 4 on launch day. Ever since then I've had an "unable to detect sim card please restart phone" error. At first it only showed up once every few days, but now it is getting more and more frequent and is happening multiple times a day. After reading starting the phone works fine for a while. I've done everything I can think of (pulling the battery, pulling and re inserting the sim, cleaning the sim), but nothing helps. Anyone else having this issue, or know of a solution? Thank you.

I am having the same issue. Not sure of a fix yet but it is getting more and more frequent which worries me.
Same here.
Same here! Anybody contact Samsung or Sprint about it?
Same here!!!
Just got my note 4 from Amazon.com. I had been reading about the lte to 3g call drop issue, and someone posted using there sim the card from the phone they were replacing fix this issue. So I put mine in from my s4 before i even turn it on for the first time. The phone worked, but was unable to connet to the 4g (lte / spark ) network. 3g worked fine. I got the message you all are getting (no sim, restart device....). It would happen like every 10 minutes. Once I put the sim that came with the phone in , all my problems went away. Long story short, you need another sim card.
I just called sprint and they are sending me another SIM card. It happens from time to time, but they did tell me if it continues, I can get it replaced for no charge.

This happened after my sim card swap. It would say "network did not respond in time" then "could not detect sim" then phone would reboot. It did it three different times. Then connection became stable and has not done it again. Not sure if these issues are the same as whats happening here. Just posting my experiences.
I actually bought 2 N910P. I planned on making a little extra money by selling 1 of them, but didn't count on the N910P being so easy to get, so I've held onto the other one for a back up until I found a ROM that I wanted to run on it. Well, I found a awesome ROM & booted up my 2nd N910P & got the message you have all mentioned. I thought it was strange, so I rebooted & got the same message again. After doing this a few times, I thought why not take my SIM card from the 1st N910P & put it in the 2nd N910P. I still got the same message after doing this, so I swapped them back before it messed up my primary SIM card. @Yoshi1221, please keep me/us updated if the new SIM card works for you. Has anybody else got a new SIM card? Also, after installing the 2nd ROM that I was trying out, the fingerprint scanner stopped working. I went back to stock & it still doesn't work, so I made sure that I did a full NANDROID backup on my 2nd N910P in hopes that once I get it working & the fingerprint scanner stops working, I can go back. Anyone else had this trouble?
Edit: I tried to activate my new GN4, but the DEC & HEX numbers were not recoginzed by Sprint.com. So I went into chat & they informed me that it had been turned over to technical support & to contact them again after 24 hours, so we'll see where it goes from there.
Update: Chatted with Sprint & the lady activated the SIM card after giving her the number. Hope this will help out. Just go to Sprint.com & click on the chat button.
Looks like new SIM card is working, but just got it today, seriously had to give up an arm and leg in order for sprint to send me one, but so far it looks like it is working, but just got it today, lol

Cool, glad it work out for you.
Also found out from a supervisor in the U.S that sprint is now selling GSM phones now. If you take out the SIM card and only receive 3G, you have a GSM phone, if you take out the SIM card and have spark/LTE, you have a CDMA phone

I had this problem. Sprint sent me a new sim. Fixed the problem for a few weeks but it has returned. Anyone ever get this figured out?
Sim card not found
I had forgetten about this error. Saw that someone suggested a piece of paper between the sim and case cover. I had this happen with a phone I got off a forum. Sent it back and got a replacement. The paper, no matter how thin or thick may or maynot work, and only for a short time. Changing the sim might not work either. You may just need a new phone. I went through all with a s4. Now my note 4 is doing it. I thought it was my recently deceased (July 4) mother was messing with me. One more errand to add to my list for today.
same here?
help plz

M9 destroyed my sim?

I was having issues in the last few weeks with having a data connection, after some hours/day suddenly my data connection wouldn't want to connect anymore because "the service is unavailable", every time i had to pull out the sim and put it back in and it would reconnect the data connection..
Except this time when i did it, it suddenly doesn't even want to connect to the normal network..
Looking at me sim, it seems kinda damaged already by 3 stripes that are carved into the sim.. (see attachment)
It might be that those pins that are connecting to the sim inside are too close on the sim tray?
Could this be indeed the issue that was causing my data to not connect too? Unfortunately i cannot test it with another sim, nobody near me uses a nano sim..
I can't imagine those lines would cause any damage to the contacts, it looks completely normal to me. It's just what happens when it's inserted and re-inserted numerous times.
I'm sure your carrier would give you a free replacement SIM, and it would be even easier if you have one of their stores nearby, where they can just give you another SIM card there and then.

Yeah i just ordered 2 free sims from 2 different providers, see if i have the same "Disconnected because service is unavailable" with my data connection...
It's really odd that it works for a few hours/days before it stops working each time.. except now.. still can't get any data connection, signal started working again after re-inserting the sim couple more times...
Now suddenly it's working again.. but for how long..
Could logcat detect the problem here if i keep it running?
