HTC 10 Build quality. First Impressions. Over all love!!

HTC 10 owners speak up! How great is your 10 let everyone know how well yours is built and holding up. Also your first impressions, the knock your socks off experience unfortunately mine shipped while I was on vacation and is sitting at home waiting on me. Will report on Monday when I get home! Can't wait!

From the 7-ish hours I've had mine, it has 100% completely lived up to the hype and has been an enormous upgrade from my One m9. I have absolutely zero build quality, screen, or performance issues. The camera is miles ahead of the m9's and I can't wait for the 1.30 software update to hit my phone which will make it even better. Also, one thing that really stood out is just how fast and accurate the fingerprint scanner is. The capacitive button idea is simply perfect for a fingerprint scanner. There's no way I can go back to a phone without a fingerprint scanner now.
My absolute biggest complaint (if you can call it that) is the position of the headphone jack. I've gotten used to having it on the bottom of the phone which fits best with my personal usage since I place a phone top-down in my pocket. I'm not sure this even qualifies as a problem and I know I'll get used to it quickly.

Let me tell you, you will not be disappointed! The 10 is, without a doubt, the best android experience currently available.

Yes also I had the 6p, I found it too big and clunky. I currently have the Lumia 950xl. While it is also a 5.7" screen, it is quite a bit smaller and lighter than the 6p. I also really did not like the camera strip at the back. Just could not get used to that at all.

I came from the shamu to the 6p so the screen size didn't bother me, and the phenomenal camera on the 6p made up for the ugly glass strip. Overall I'm extremely happy with the 6p but I have always been an HTC fan,(I of course had the M9 and A9 both in between, but both had their limitations) so I'm really really anxious to try a more pure stock sense experience coupled with very promising hardware!!

How is the notification sound for you guys? Idk if it is my unit, or its me, or they are all in general like that but the notification sound is kinda muffled

That's one of the main reasons I switched, the 6p was just was just to big for me. Loving the smaller screen size.

The HTC 10 feel a whole lot more solid and heftier. The fit and finish just feels nicer, no mismatching plastics or pieces that aren't flush, there is no black plastic "ring" around the screen that dents and comes off easily, button feel more solid
I used to be diehard pure Android only and have tried different skins over the years, even stuff like PA or some other custom wrong. But I'm finding myself liking sense a lot. Hated the previous version on my One S. I am itching to root just so I can block ads...

the way i would describe it is real metal especially compared to the A9 and X9 (which has thin metal like the iPhone)
the 10 is simply steel and glass, with no plastics in your sight (except the hidden strips)
overall a screaming premium feel, my TPU case is killing the whole aura so i am really anxious for my Spigen ExactFit to arrive, also the Fitbag black rave pouch looks amazingly classy with it

My eyesight isn't what it used to be so I've been using phablets - Note 2, Note 4, Moto X Pure Edition - and I was a little worried about the smaller screen size on the HTC 10. I've discovered, however, that it's very easy for me to read the HTC 10 screen. I prefer Sense over TouchWiz, but I've been spoiled by the flexibility of Nova Prime and I installed it on my HTC 10 after about an hour. So far, I'm very pleased with the HTC 10. I'll know more after I've used it for a week or two.

I'm hard of hearing but I can easily hear the notification sound on my HTC 10, even without my hearing aids.

I got mine yesterday (so far I love it) and I just now noticed there is a slight gap between the top of the screen and the frame. Has anyone else noticed this?

OK after having phone a solid 8 hours with 80% of my apps installed compared to Samsung S7 Edge is a mini review:
Nice build quality, slightly smaller screen, cleaner UI but with some idiosyncrasies, very good sound, type-C connector.
I am finding the more apps I install the slower the phone is becoming with some lag and stutter, the camera is quite good but Edge is better overall especially in low light, Edge is blazing fast despite touch wiz, Edge screen is gorgeous and battery life is probably better but will withhold judgement on HTC 10 for a day or two.
Overall a very good phone but not enough to best the Edge. Marketing will be an issue for this phone and may be difficult for buyers to justify at same price point if the preorder $100 discount is not available.
The wow factor is almost there IMHO.
Will keep testing with an open mind.

Anyone switch from Galaxy S7 edge?

Has anyone switched from the S7or S7 Edge to the OnePlus 3? I am considering it simply because of the lack of root. If someone can give suggestions that has used both devices, i would appreciate it. Thanks.

I own both devices. I haven't decided yet which one to keep. The One Plus 3 is definitely a better value.
The camera and screen are definitely nicer on S7 Edge.
I own the AT&T S7 Edge and wished I had purchased the international version.

I can't imagine many people doing that.

I did and its amazing.. I had the S7 Edge with Exynos. Between the S7 Edge and OP3 I have had the Huawei P9 Chinese (AL10) and even the P9 performs better than the S7 Edge.. but OP3 rocks all away.. AnTuTu with around 142k, P9 have 99k, only S7 I forgot..
I had some big problems on the S7 Edge with the Edges, they didn´t recognized, even with the actual firmware.. that was the reason t oswitch to the P9.. but I´m still not 100% happy.. the OP3 seems to fix this for me.. I´m totally happy for now
Fixed the RAM issue..
Maybe I can update my experiences in a few days more detailed

Me. I loved the Edge but that split second Samsung lag was getting beyond annoying. Also the fingerprint reader on the OP3 feels 3 classes above

I have too. I took many pictures side by side and there was very little difference that I could tell. I will miss the waterproofing and the bigger battery but I never used the edge features and the ability to root and get a decent tempered glass screen swung it for me. That and I got an extra £150 in my back pocket

Mmmmh, my advise to the OP ... don't believe everything you read here ... .
S7Edge user here (Exynos version). - Display, Water/Dust Resistance, Battery ... to name just a few. Not much of a comparison. Then add a likely superior camera/video performance, expandable storage, wireless charging, better headphone sound (Exynos version) ... looks (subjective).
Still, all this comes at a price and Touch Whizz is arguably not the most favourite interface but its perfectly workable and the end result is very, very good.
I am not arguing about the value of the Oneplus 3 and I am considering one to replace my Elephone P9000 as a second (work) phone but not until they (OnePlus3) have attempted to fix the display on the 3. However, that may or may not be technically possible.
I tried to post a link to an in-depth technical review of the 3 on here but the mods deleted it. You can find it on Anandtech's website, published today.
So, personally I'd unquestionably hang on to your S7E!

IF you had the US galaxy s7 edge (i have a t-mobile version) then you'd probably feel good about the switch to Oneplus 3.
These are the things I don't miss - from the s7
- poor battery life on the Snapdragon version
- samsung UI lag and the fact that I have to disable nearly every bloat to get the device to a decent working state
- locked bootloader and no end in sight for root availability
- regret of not buying the exynos variant
Things i actually miss:
- Stellar low light camera
- F**kin amazing low light and indoor pictures
- may be that marginal flexibility of being cool about not charging it overnight.

I have both devices. Just being honest.
Even after disabling packages it lags, which is s shame. Battery is amazing though. Owned it since release, ebaying it this week

I am sorry to hear that. Personally my version is lightening fast but it is not uncommon for phones to slow down over time (LG are known for that but others do it too). To find the exact reason is very difficult as user preferences/installations etc vary dramatically from person to person.
Touch Whizz is not the most intuitive UI but it generally doesn't slow down an operating system. Todays processors are easily able to handle the slight increase in workload over a stock Android install and then some.

What is the display issue you mention here?

I have both, but haven't properly tested the Oneplus 3. I'm on my 3rd S7 edge though. I do love the phone, but I kinda feel its a bit delicate. I also love the balance on the Oneplus and the speed of the fingerprint sensor smashes the S7 egde. I don't like physical home buttons either. Always feel like eventually they will wear out and get sticky. I'm really excited to try out the gaming performance of the Oneplus though, genuinely cant wait!

It's totally squewed up. Measurements are some of the worst tested (Anandtech review of the 3 today, can't post a link but if you head over there you find a more in-depth review including test bench measurements, than most other, subjective testing sites).
It just so happens that I am quite sensitive to large display aberrations. Of all the phones I've had the P9000's superb display is still my benchmark but talking of which (benchmarks), Samsungs S7 line are the most accurately measuring displays of any phones, depending on setting and which standard you want it to apply to.
Even so, as with most Amoled displays, whites are not usually as pure as from an accurately calibrated high Quality LCD but on the S7, its as a compromise I'm ok to make for the benefits.
OnePlus should probably have fitted a good LCD (ala MI5) rather than go for the headline grabbing but probably cheap and old Amoled version fitted.
Still, an update may come some way towards solving some of the issues. I wait to see.

Gaming performance will be the same.

If oneplus had faster updates I might think about switching but that doesn't seem to be the case so far. My s6 edge plus got marshmallow before the oneplus 2 by 2 months . Now that I have the s7 edge I can't justify the switch unless I'm going to make a good profit on it otherwise I think I'm going to keep it and wait for the nexus 2016.

They are all but indistinguishable. No games available will test them to their limits.
Pointless comparison.
Personally, I feel that processors have reached limits which are all but useless for the majority of users, even power users.
Manufacturers should now concentrate on other, more important aspects such as increased battery life, water resistance and good quality displays.
OnePLus3's effort is not close enough yet, instead concentrating on headline grabbing things like a top processor. In the process economising elsewhere but like I said, it looks good for the price and I am considering changing the P9000 (if OP can sort the display).

I have both phones, my S7 edge is from Tmo so it also have a locked bootloader. Since I love flashing roms and all I just could not stick with the S7 edge. Also it is laggy as fk and it even takes long just to get to settings. I'm going to miss the great camera in low light but that's about it. This phone OP3 it's so fast and already have a great support from devs. I wouldn't think it twice. I'm just going to sell my S7 edge this week.

I have both and I am trying to decide what to do. The S7e battery is much better and the screen on the OP3 is lacking. The camera is ok on the OP3 , but no where near as good as the s7e/ The OP3 is snappier but my battery is already at 80% after only 3 hrs at work. The OP3 is VERY thin, they should have made it a little thicker and squeezed a 3600 mah battery in it.

Same here. My S7 lags switching tabs when setting an alarm in the official clock app. That's when I decided enough was enough. This OP3 is lightning quick. I don't have that slight jerk to every animation that have on my S7 Edge
This feels better too. I don't accidentally touch the screen because the screen is curved towards my hand holding the phone

It may be quicker now, a day or so old but I'd put money on it that a few months down the line, after numerous custom rom installations, a bunch of loaded games and the usual app catalogue etc. it won't quite feel the same

Razer phone or Note 8

I know im going to catch so S$%T for this post but here it goes anyway.. lol.. If you had the Note 8 and was given the Razer which would you keep if only could have one.. Just curious as to what others would do in my predicament. I love both phones.

There's no law saying you can't have both.
That aside, why would anyone want to be convinced one way or another by someone else's subjective opinion?
There's no way anyone could or should deem which is better for your usage.

It depends on your usage. If the camera is a make or break thing for you, go with the note 8. If not, then the 120hz screen really makes the Razer phone more responsive and overall a lot quicker. I hardly ever take pictures so I am more than happy with the Razer phone. Your uses may differ from mine though, so keep that in mind

I was up in the air about the note 8 or the pixel 2 XL.
I used a different for a few weeks but sent it back when this phone was announced. The s8 was a horrible experience. It would lose 20% battery overnight, it was filled with bloatware I couldn't uninstall. If you root it a bit flips and they can see it was "tampered" with and then void your warranty. They call it Knox to combat malware, I call it Knarx.
Bixby was leaps and bounds above Cortana, kinda above Google assistant, bit I think it was sloppy code resulting in the 20% batt overnight.
All in all, I can imagine the note 8 is just a larger piece of crap than the s8. And the curved front glass screen? Looks good doesn't it?
It's freaking terrible. I work a desk job, so if I were to put it on the desk with a kickstand, the curved front glass along the edge results in a terrible glare across the entire device from lights on the ceiling. So incredibly annoying, can't believe how much of a downside that was. Never buying a phone with a curved screen/edges like that.

Previous S8+ owner, I couldn't stand Bixby, the curved screen and screen protectors/cases.. The location of the fingerprint scanner, crappy sound... I could go on.. While the camera was nice... I chose the razer..

I'm sick and tired of my Note 8! The speaker SUCKS! The curved display sure looks nice but its wasted real-estate! I'm gonna give the razer a shot anyone else have it to compare?

I completely forgot about the crappy speaker on the s8. The first time I tried to play something, I heard whispers. I was like 'wtf'. Then I realized the way I hold the phone results in my pinky, supporting at the bottom of the phone, covers the tiny little single speaker output hole.
And ya, on the s8 I think it was 1-3mm of the screen was bent in total on each side of the screen, so anything displaying there you don't "see" because the image is pointed to your left or right.

I like the razer much better..

How about the screen size?

I have Both the Razer Phone and Note 8....
I am shipping the Razer back for a refund today. Note 8 is way better in my opinion.

Razer kills Samsung

I don't have the note and I can tell you if I had the choice right now i'd get the note
in the future that might change depending on how Razer handle the phone update wise but as of RIGHT NOW the note.
PS: As much as I hate Oneplus the 5T is also a top contender.

The Note 8 has nowhere near the stats or capabilities of this phone. And the OnePlus? Ha..
I've seen people complain they're still uneasy about Razer updating the phone too. That's just stupid. 5 days after release they issue an update, and another update less than 30 days later?

I've always been part of the note family
Ever since I picked up the original note. After watching and reading countless reviews I'm on board with my razer. And come on... Dolby Atmos.. Best sound. I just recently was on vacation and I played a movie while watching news the plane. Could hear the volume perfectly over the engines. How's that for audio. The speakers alone on this device makes it amazing in my opinion.

Is it really worth the price

Hi,
My friend is planning to get a 5t along with his note 8. Few questions-
1. How is this phones screen as compared to note 8's screen, comparing them at max settings?
2. How smooth is the OS? He is skeptical about it since he is switching from stock android and touchwiz.
Any other down sides of this phone? I hope the screen is really an infinity display like the s8.

I really like the curved edges of the S8. I prefer the S8 in terms of the display it is curve display which makes the screen to body ratio very low.
In terms of OS. I would prefer the OP5T.

1. How is this phones screen as compared to note 8's screen, comparing them at max settings?
2. How smooth is the OS? He is skeptical about it since he is switching from stock android and touchwiz.
Any other down sides of this phone? I hope the screen is really an infinity display like the s8.

I've had and regularly use a lot of phones due to my work. One of them being the Note 8.
The Note 8 comes out of the box set at 1080p, but does have the edge in the display department (no pun intended) if you set it to QHD. However unless I'm purposefully staring at it looking for pixels I can't really tell a difference in practical day to day use. The 5T has a gorgeous display and on mine at least, the colors are more accurate. The display is made by Samsung for OnePlus so it's honestly top notch in terms of quality and the "jelly scrolling" issue that was present on the OnePlus 5 for some is gone now with the 5T. So, is the Note 8 better in terms of display? Yes. As it should be, the starting price is about twice that of the 5T. Is it worth twice the asking price? Absolutely not.
The OS kills Samsung's flavor. Touchwiz is a hot mess, and it's even worse when you've had it for a few weeks and Touchwiz starts to really lag. It's much better on the Note 8 than the S8+ due to the RAM upgrade, but it's still there and really irritating. It's been an issue with Samsung phones for years. Oxygen OS is smoother than Touchwiz and frankly, smoother than stock Android on a Pixel in my experience. But that's likely due to the specs of the 5T (I have the 8GB RAM/128GB model). OnePlus changes very little about stock android, they only add a few things that make it a little more convenient and slightly more customizable. It's not a skin as you'd find on a Samsung, LG or Huawei among others. The OnePlus destroys Samsung in terms of smoothness of the OS and multitasking/general use.
One downside people talk about is the camera. Camera is a mixed bag. Honestly that side of marketing with smartphones is ridiculous. The Samsung has the edge, but that's all it is. There's not a smartphone out that can replace a DSLR and there's not a single one out that doesn't have noise or other issues in low light or when pixel peeping. Auto mode for auto mode in the same circumstances there's not enough of a difference to warrant the price hike either. Is it better on the Samsung devices? Yep. But only marginally in the real world. I can't count how many times I've shown people shots taken in identical conditions of identical subjects on all the phones I have and no one can get it right as to which took what shot. There's no clear winner and there's very little difference between them. People tend to just pick a bandwagon and hop on it. The differences come when you really play with pro mode and work to shoot with each phone's strength, but that's not real world use and that's entirely invalid for comparisons or determining which phone to buy. In real life people don't schedule shoots or wait for ideal lighting and conditions for their phone to pull it out and take a photo. That's what professionals do, and professionals don't use smartphones which are the equivalent of drug store disposable point and shoots. People in real life buy a phone they like and they pull it out in a split second on auto mode and snap a shot of the kids, the dogs or what have you.
Down sides depend what you are interested in though. For example yes, the 5T doesn't have an edge display. It also doesn't have the nasty glare or slippery feel that comes with the newer Samsungs. Also if a person relies heavily on the Samsung gimmicks incorporated into Touchwiz, you'll find the 5T very bland and lacking. Personally I never use the "advanced features" on Samsung phones and the only thing I use on my Note 8 is the S pen. And I do love that thing. If you don't like those things and want a more stock experience or a faster phone with at least twice the battery life (my 5T gets 9-10 hours SOT every time I test it, the Note 8 does great to get 3, sometimes almost 4 if I really gimp it for battery life) then the Samsung is the one with the downsides.
Different phones designed for different folks. With the OnePlus 5T you get what you pay for. However they absolutely cannot raise the price again without adding certain things such as a higher resolution display, an IP rating and what have you. With the current $1,000 flagships, you don't get anywhere near what you pay for. They're priced way too god damned high and don't offer enough over phones like the 5T to warrant twice the price. But if you can get them for $600 or less, they're the better buy unless you really care about battery life and specs.

Thank you so much for such a detailed review. Is the infinity display on 5T really worth it without the edge display or the side edges/curves? We don't have a opo showroom in our state so can't really check the phone physically. 5T is not water proof, flash is also not good, no vr compatibility, audio speaker is just fine. Any other points that we need to keep in mind? Are they still cheating with benchmark tests?

I've never heard OnePlus call it an infinity display. And it's just a term Samsung uses. Yes, on Samsungs you have the display spilling over the edges. Some people like it, others don't. I don't. It has a horrible glare and it alters the picture on screen for the worse, not better. The edge display makes things look really weird on the Samsung phones. So I prefer the flat edges like the 5T has and that Samsung had on the S7 and below, with the Edge display being optional. The bezels on the OnePlus are slightly larger than on the Note 8 and the S8 but not by much and not enough to hinder the experience. It's still a 2:1 ration (or 18:9, however you like to say it). It's not quad HD, so right, no VR, but is the same ratio and looks gorgeous. It's hard to explain. Yes the resolution is lower, but it's not noticeable unless you really pixel peep. Quad HD isn't enabled by default on the S8, S8+ or Note 8 and you don't notice much difference when you enable it to be honest. Most people use their Samsungs on 1080p and don't even realize it. Most aren't tech freaks like us and don't even know you can turn it on.
Flash, I'm not sure what you mean about it not being as good? I already addressed photos above, the flash is fine and not noticeably different in every day use. 5T is not water resistant (even the Samsungs are not water PROOF) but OnePlus has stated it will stand up to splashes just fine. Unless you need to swim or shower with your phone, the 5T should be ok. Audio speaker is mono like the Samsung, but is louder than Samsung and sounds slightly better, though the Samsung has the edge if you use headphones. Headphone sound quality is slightly better with the Samsung. Speaker is better on the 5T.
Benchmarks, I don't know. But they don't mean anything real world either. Like the cameras, it's largely a marketing gimmick. Whatever single or multi core score it gets doesn't mean a thing when translated to actual use. But yeah, it kicks everything else's ass. But it should, being that it has the best specs in the industry for this year. So I don't know if they still fluff numbers, but whether they do or not they still win in the spec pissing contest.
Edit: Simplified, if you can get a 2017 flagship for less money than a 5T costs, or within $100 of the 5T for the Note, the S8+, the V30 or the Pixel 2/2XL, it's worth it to get the flagships. If it costs any more than that, they're not better "enough" to warrant spending the money and I'd go with the 5T. Because the only areas they're better are either gimmicks or they are only marginally better, not several hundred dollars better.

Once again thank you so much. Last 2 queries can you please post a photo of the edges and a pic which shows all the bezels? I have a S7 and I get your point but it will be hard to explain to him. Second I was talking about the benchmark cheat in which opo was involved in, some senior members made a detailed thread about it, Google one plus one benchmark cheat XDA. Has anyone tested the 5t to find out the real benchmarks?

He just messaged me to ask you this, he will be getting a Gadgetshieldz protector for his 5t which is installed by soaking the protector in water mixed with detergent or some other chemical, since the phone is water resistant will there be any issues with the screen or any other component if the liquid goes inside the phone? Lastly is oneplus one guaranteeing software updates till 2 years?

Hey dude, let me give my 2 cents since I owned the note 8 and the 5T.
1. The 5T display is REALLY good. I'm the type of person that barely notice a difference between QHD and Full HD. As a matter of fact I'm using my note 8 on 1080 p cause I cannot tell the difference. Of course there is one but i barely see it. The point is the 5T display is excellent.
2. The 5T is insanely fast. OnePlus is known to have zippy software and it's very consistent throughout the UI. That is the last thing to worry about on the 5T, performance. It's absolutely stellar and it is amongst the fastest phone out there period. Whether it's an iPhone or pixel or whatever else, the 5T is top 3 hands down.
Now your friend has a note AND is getting a 5T as well? That is the absolute best combo to have besides having the note and an iPhone X. He is gonna love it and will be able to switch back and forth. Tell him to pull the trigger, the 5T is totally worth it.
I forgot to answer your questions about downsides of the phone. Well it doesn't have any IP ratings, it doesn't have wireless charging and the camera isn't the best. It's ok/good but definitely not great. The hardware is there but the software still needs some work (camera).

I wouldn't worry about those screen protectors that you soak in water and apply on phones, it's made to be that way. Of course if you go crazy and purposely pour water in the headphone jack or USB x port then you'll have issues. But splashes here and there will be no issues. As far as updates, who knows. We know for sure Oreo is coming and most likely Android P but beyond that I haven't heard anything personally.

The moment I get home and have both phones handy I will post some photos, sure. And again, the benchmark thing doesn't mean anything. It doesn't matter if it scores 15,000 in Geekbench or whatever. What counts is real world use. For example, the iPhone scores spectacularly well in benchmarks and is a train wreck in day to day use. I sold my iPhone X already, but it was a jittery mess. Scores are high, but real world doesn't reflect that. Samsung scores pretty well too but again, real world it's a mess. Stutters and lags abound in Touchwiz. My Sony scored lower than my others and it is the smoothest performance hands down next to the 5T. If you're into benchmarks I'm sure you can find answers on here but I'm telling you, they're just for folks to "nerd out" on. They don't mean anything in the real world. But yes, OnePlus was caught fudging the numbers (why, I don't know since they are the king of specs anyway) but I am not sure if they still do.
As to the screen protector, as long as he doesn't submerge the phone he should be fine. But keep in mind - the Samsung is not water proof. It's water resistant. So water CAN damage it. The OnePlus is not rated as water resistant, but OnePlus says it's fine with things like splashes or rain drops. He's not going to hurt it using a wet application screen protector.
Updates - Who knows. Manufacturers always over promise on updates these days. They claim it'll be updated for a long time and they'll roll them out fast. OnePlus and Essential so far are hands down the best in terms of fast besides Google themselves, but OnePlus has dropped the ball on long term before. The 3 and 3T are getting Oreo, I'd imagine the 5 and 5T will get Oreo and the next major update at a minimum. Beyond that you'd have to ask them. I imagine many don't bother since people tend to upgrade every year or two but if you plan to use it for 2+ years you'd be best served to ask them. Though Samsung definitely won't be updating theirs fast and I doubt they'll get anything beyond what the 5T does either. Manufacturers want to sell phones. Not keep old phones running for years and years. 2 years is the outside for most manufacturers. Where you have a win on the OnePlus is the developer community. The bootloader is unlockable and you can install any ROM you want. With the specs it has the phone will be supported in some way for years and years, just potentially not by OnePlus themselves.

I no longer have the 5T. Someone offered to trade me a note 8 factory unlocked brand new and I had to do it lol. The resale value is why and ultimately the note is the superior phone.

Waiting for the photos my dear. Is the warranty of opo taken care by oppo's service centers?

Just for a giggle, my last THREE phones cost less than my 5t. I bought all of them direct from China and they all exceeded my expectations. I kept the last one - a Xiaomi Redmi Note 2- for two years (unheard of for me!) and the only reason I've given up on it is because the power button is failing. To my amazement, in a side by side comparison, it holds up to the 5t pretty well, in particular having a screen with much more accurate colour saturation. Compared to that, is a 5t worth £499 Vs the £117 the Redmi Note 2 cost? Heck no! Do I like the 5t? Yep! Would I buy another if I dropped it tomorrow? Nope, I'd buy another cheap phone from China because they offer fantastic value for money

I talked my wife into buying the OnePlus 5T after months of listening to her complain about her Moto X Pure Edition and me having to constantly factory reset it (probably at least once a month to keep her happy). No idea what she was doing to the thing as i didn't have nearly as many problems with my MXPE, but regardless i finally talked her into buying a new phone. I hoped at the very least to alleviate myself from having to constantly listen to complaining about how slow it was, how it couldn't take a good picture to save its life (the pictures i can agree with, they were pretty horrible), and having to spend a couple hours backing up data, factory resetting, and restoring her photos and whatnot every month. She's really picky with phones and had her heart set on a Note 8 (especially after i picked up the GS8+ about a month or so ago for myself) but she was really turned off by the $900 price tag of the Note 8. She thinks that it's completely ridiculous to spend that much on a phone, which i agree with fully.
Thankfully she ended up listening to me and ordering the OP 5T. After she received her OP 5T and got it all set up, she fell in love with it. I i have messed with the phone quite a bit and first thing that hit me was that I immediately enjoyed the user experience. I had previously run custom ROMs on my MXPE and this phone is truly in a whole other league. The speed of it is incredible. It even makes my GS8+ seem like a slug at times. The software experience is really refreshing. Minimal changes to stock Android with the tweaks that are implemented done very seamlessly and with a purpose in mind. The screen, although it's "only" 1080p and not 1440p, is incredibly crisp in my opinion. I had it side by side with my GS8+ and honestly preferred the OP 5T's screen over my S8+'s. I'll also admit i do not like the curved screen on the S8+ at all so that may have something to do with my opinion on the OP 5T's screen quality. The cameras aren't quite on the same level as Samsung phones, or the pixel line for that matter, but they're by no means bad cameras. I've seen numerous reports that the cameras are terrible or that they simply don't take good pictures. I had my wife take a pretty good amount of photos over the last few days so that i could see the quality for myself and they honestly aren't anywhere close to being bad. They blow her previous phone out of the water (not that it's really difficult to do). All in all this phone IMO truly is a flagship caliber phone without the flagship price attached to it.
The only downsides that i have found so far -
1- It doesn't properly/fully support Verizon (i'm on StraightTalk but i use the Verizon towers/4G SIM) which means that i won't be switching to it
2- This is probably more of an Android problem honestly, but SmartLock doesn't work well/consistently on the OP 5T. There's a workaround floating around the internet to disable trusted agents in the fingerprint/security settings and that does work, but only temporarily. After a reboot it just stops working and sometimes even after using the workaround it stops working for seemingly no reason. Pretty frustrating for my wife when my GS8+ utilizes SmartLock perfectly. We're both hoping that this is addressed in a future software update
All in all though, this phone is a no brainer for $500. If you're on a service provider that utilizes GSM you just cant beat the price to performance ratio that this thing has. And that software experience, lawd have mercy is it good.

While I don't think any phone on the market claims to have a camera comparable to a DSLR, there is something to be said for having a capable camera and there are pretty significant differences in photo quality between a 5t and phones like the Note 8/Pixel 2/iPhone X when attempting to capture difficult shots, e.g. low-light, moving objects, etc. I was considering a 5t in addition to my Pixel 2 XL to fill my interest in modding, tweaking, flashing, etc since my Pixel 2 XL is locked. I played with my friend's 5t for a bit to specifically test out the camera and found it just can't keep up for my needs, and didn't leave me with a lot of confidence. When a camera performs poorly in specific situations, I'm less likely to use it. If most of my shots were of non-moving objects in broad daylight, the 5t would suffice. However, most of my shots are of my kids, who are very active and often in low light and indoor situations in addition to being outdoors in broad daylight. The best camera is the one you have on you and for capturing moments in my family's life, I wouldn't want that camera to be the one on the 5t.

Its worth the price. You can see comparisons on youtube... Its the best phone since they released op 3 period

1. I was so glad to switch off Verizon earlier last year when I got my Pixel XL, to goto T-Mobile. I'm saving money, am on a network with the same speeds, and have the luxury of buying non-carrier phones.
2. I had this issue with SmartLock on OxygenOS as well. it was annoying, and they need to fix it. I switched to 8.1 AOSP firmware and all my problems went away. Oxygen was okay, but AOSP custome firmware always manages to be superior to stock firmwares.

I'm the same as you, but with the screen and not the camera. I went to a Pixel 2 XL from a Pixel XL and found that I just couldn't use a phone with a poor screen. I had to dump it in favor of a good screen that wasn't curved and had an unlockable bootloader. The 5T fit the bill nicely and the camera is average, but then again I don't have kids.

I bought the S7 11 inch wi-fi model. The LCD screen on this thing is a real let down.
I got spoiled by my S6's screen. Even my Tab S2's looks better than this.
I'm gonna give it a couple of days to see if it grows on me but at this point it doesn't look good for keeping it.
Anticipation was very high waiting for the S7 and like I said I'm VERY disappointed.

The only reason i went with the plus model was the screen size and amoled display. Coming from an ipad pro 12.9 was a huge upgrade.
I'd say return it and get the plus model it's not that bigger than the S7 and is totally worth it.

Wow, I got the S7 5G and I love the screen. Yeah its not note9 quality but I find it good in its own right.

I've just bought the S7 wi-fi model. I didnt even know it was LCD, before I buy it. I didn't make the research this time. I thought Samsung always sells amoled, loI. Pro model was a little expensi ve so I get this one. I feel kind of sad but is it really that bad?

I find it looks great. 120Hz makes is smooth. Movies and games all look great to me. Granted I am an artist (color blind too) so notice little details. I can say I am not a screen snob and this LCD easily looks great even with very minor short comings. I have the note 9 and I now use the tab more cause its larger.

I have oneplus 6T and this is actually my first tablet. I dont think this device is bad but I was expecting another panel than an super amoled from a high end samsung device. I guess they had to cut the costs off from somewhere. I could've get the new Ipad Air with the same price, this one has the pen included though. Every product has it's adv. and disadvantages.
Edit: I would prefer a 90hz amoled though.

I picked up the s7 and I think it looks great maybe its just me ?*, I have a note 10 and I think the S7 looks better. Must be my eyes lol

Its not that the screen is bad, the reason I said something is because I have the S6 and the screen on the S6 is better then the S7, the S7 is suppose to be a upgrade, thats what I see as the problem. Not that the screen on the S7 is bad, its just not as good as the S6

Makes sense bummer that they downgraded the screen, my current tablet that I hardly use is the Samsung tab pro 8.4 inch so to me it looks great lol. I'm debating on exchanging but not sure the screen alone is worth the $200 price difference

LCD's SUCK compared to AMOLED. For the price, this thing should have an OLED.

It really should. S7 is pricey. I have to admit no amoled on S7 got me to pay more for S7+. I only did it because I was able to stack about 5 different discounts and cashback offers.

I would have preferred an Amoled display but this screen is in no way a bad screen. That's definitely a first word problem. :silly:

I have an S7 and I absolutely love the screen. I'm not an artist though and don't use the tablet for that kind of work. For my proposes - reading, movies, browsing internet, note taking - I don't see the point in AMOLED; especially with the number of defective screens Samsung has, which by the way they consider a "feature"", not a defect. Sure OLED screens are great, but Samsung's screens? Thanks, but no thanks. Besides, the battery life on S7 is better than on the plus model (could be because of the screen as well)

Um You do know amoled is definitely better then LCD right? you do know for the price it should have been Amoled not LCD. As a owner of a S6 now way is the S7 screen comparable to the S6. Also by the way you do know that the great apple screens are supplied by Samsung? By the way I use my tablet for the same reasons you use yours.

I do know that. And for my purposes I couldn't care less if I have an LCD on a tablet or an OLED.
As I mentioned, I'm not using it for graphics/drawing, the picture is good enough for Netflix/YouTube on a screen of this size (it's not a TV, c'mon), and LCD is much better on the eyes for prolonged reading. But it's my use case/requirements and it might be different from yours or someone else's.
I agree about the price, it should have been lower for a device with an LCD screen. Unfortunately currently there are no (Android) alternatives to this device.
I know that Samsung supplies the screens to Apple. I also read from people who own both that they couldn't find a difference between iPad pro and S7 screens. So I'm not sure why you mentioned that. Anyways, I don't consider Apple products however good/bad their components are, I just done like their products and policies. I also don't like Samsung, but as I said - there are no alternatives on Android right now. Hopefully Huawei/Xiaomi or someone else will step up soon.
All in all, I'm not saying the screen is the best I've ever seen, and it's definitely not better than OLED screens. And I agree that if they put a cheaper screen - they should've lowered the price. But I don't agree about the screen itself being a huge "letdown" or a "disappointment", at least not for me.

Agreed. The screen is still great. Blacks are still deep, off angle viewing is still great. Yes it might use a little more battery and is probably not as good as an oled panel but its by no means bad. I for one am not interested in paying an extra $270 for the 7+ that tablet was expensive enough
