So I just picked up a HTC 10 and so far am really loving the phone right down to the camera. But I can't help noticing that the display has a black border that runs the perimeter between the LCD and bezel of the phone.
It looks pretty cheap, my M8 had nothing of the sort nor have I seen something like this on other flagship smartphones. I searched Google and some HTC 10 don't seem to have the border. I have the Tianma display in mine, perhaps the Sharp display is ever so slightly larger? Any comments?
I have the same border but a littler thinner than your one. I suppose it's only noticeable in the phones with white screens (I have the white/gold one). Doesn't bother me too much. Mine has a Sharp panel. The images shown below are the exact size of my borders. The only reason why you never saw this on the M8 or any other phone is because the front glass is completely black, the HTC 10 has white coloured glass in the white/silver or white/gold versions.
They do show the black border in images (warning, large images):

Bummer, thanks for the quick reply I was hoping for some unit variation but I can live with it, the phone's been really great otherwise.

I said in another matte thread I bought this a few days ago and will post what i thought of it. I used it for about a day and here's my review!
short version: don't bother. It doesn't fit right, had to trim it. major rainbow noise on bright screen.
long version:
I tried to fit the screen for around 20 minutes, couldn't get it right, best i could do is this:

}
I am going to have to trim it with scissors.
When the screen is off, it looks REALLY nice. but the rainbow noise is pretty bad, i tried to take a picture of it but it doesn't really show how bad it is.
Now I know for a fact that not all matte screens are like this, because i have a matte screen on my HP touchpad and it is NOWHERE near as bad, you can only see rainbow effect if you look closely.
in case you need to know where i bought it, so that you don't.

personally i will still keep it, because playing games with this surface is still way better than without. And when i play games, i don't notice the rainbow problem. But i keep an eye out for a better matte screen.
haven't others posted on this forum about not buying this type of protector for AMOLED screens because of exactly what you're saying...?

Any body else has this issue? I have thick vertical lines at the bottom of my
AMOLED sreen on the Galaxy Nexus.
They only show when the screen brightness are on low.
Should I get it changed under warranty?

This is pretty common with amoled screens, I wouldn't worry about it, its completely normal, and is only visible in dark rooms with brightness on low. Just be glad you don't have the blobs as well like all of the T-mobile Galaxy S2s have.
Cheers cbutters
yup. Mine is the same. Any replacement would likely be v similar. Forget about it.
I still think it's b.s. that for this new "Super AMOLED HD" screen that they downgraded from RGB and went back to pentile. Granted, they increased the resolution & dpi...
Apparently though, we'll have to wait until the next generation Samsung phones(after the Nexus) before they'll give us phones with "Super AMOLED HD Plus" that will be true RGB with high res & dpi.
SAMOLED. Just the way it is with whites.
That's the tradeoff for ridiculously black blacks.
I have a wide lighter coloured band horizontel across screen. Can see it when scrolling on lowest brightness. Auto mode in dark room etc. Cant see the vertical bands normally. Your eyes fix on the horizontel one while scrolling though. A replacement unit might be worse though. Grrrr.... ? Seems they all have these lighter or darker bands to some degree.

I have been contemplating on which color 900 im going to get, I look at many different images of the cyan version and a lot of them look different, some look darker some lighter closer to a teal color, I even seen some that look like an electric or cobalt blue. I tried to base the actual color to an actual image with someone holding it in their hand but there is discrepancy there also.

compared to
I see more images closer to the second pic but I really like the first image better, but i think im going to take the plunge ona cyan device anyways just because I want to be different with this device
Since when was there a dark blue Lumia? Never knew about it or seen it before.
This probably sounds silly, but is there a chance the first two pictures are with the included cover on it? I say silly because why would a reviewer take first-look pictures with the cover on, but who knows? The color difference is definitely there.
No other blue other than cyan has been announced so I'd definitely say that the colors are just off on those pics.
I'm more interested in the white personally..
I would say the colours are off in the picture. Likely it will be the same that Nokia shows on their website... if you can even get it in North America. We shall see very soon !
The teal color is closer to the actual color. I believe there are 2 more colors besides cyan and black. White and red? We'll have to see if they roll out more phones when this phone really takes off.
I actually played around with both the black and cyan, and I liked the cyan more. The color pops, and it looks different based on the lighting. Also I noticed the black gets smudges and finger prints on the back, however, it's barely noticeable on the cyan. I'll prob end up with the cyan and maybe switch to the white, depending how much I like it, when it's released on April 22.
Is there a way for me to make my white sgs3 black? I can get a battery cover, but I want the front black as well.
The cosmetic designer for the sgs3 must have had some strange ideas, the actual black version wasn't even black, more of a scratched dark grey, and there is no way that I'm buying a custom front glass, not with the hair-dryer procedure.
If there isn't a way, I'll be fine, but I really want a black one without using decals.:fingers-crossed:
Just get a case that covers it up... It's a lot less work. Amazon has them cheap. Better protection, looks like you want, win-win.

I want to have the glass on either side of the screen unobstructed, and I want the cosmetic appearance of a phone that isn't covered, What I want is some sort of shaded screen protector, one with the bezel area black and the screen completely clear

What about this?

Or would it be one of those things that would tear after a week?

That would work for the front. As for durability, that depends on the quality of the material they use.
and would it blend in with the screen? I'm going for the effect on the last few nexus phones, not the effect on the s4.
I installed the mahogany skin from Stickerboy on my OPO last night. First, the fit is not 100% perfect. There is def a seam on the top of the skin where the 2 pieces should meet. It's almost a millimeter gap, but not quite. Because the skin is dark and so is the sandstone, it not noticeable until you get close up. Where the top and bottom pieces meet with the backing folds on the sides is not 100% either because the cuts don't seem like a straight line, but kind've curved. With all that being said though, the skin does look really nice if you are not scrutinizing those areas. It does make the phone a bit slicker to hold, but it does have a really fine wood grain feel to it. I do like the dark color of the mahogany. Installation was a breeze, just have a hair dryer or heat gun handy to make adhesion better on the curved areas. Stickerboy does have 2 videos posted to show you how to install the 2 different versions of their skin. I got the Type 1 which has the backing connected to the sides and the top and bottom pieces separate. Here are 2 nice pics to showcase it:

If you look real close you'll see I actually tore the skin at the corner top left where the side folds down. I had lifted the corner up to try to stretch it further to minimize the gap but it ended up tearing a bit. It's hard to notice so I can live with it for now. I might end up ordering another one in Type 2 design to see how well that version looks.
Looks good - may well try one myself.
