Help! possibly bricked my phone, RUU bypass cid check/reset modified flag - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, so I derped really bad here and believe I bricked my phone. I am really stressing out here as I was in the process of reverting my phone to stock due to an advanced replacement HTC sent me. If I dont get my device back to them I will be charged for the replacement phone.
I had an ATT phone that was been flashed to the developers version. I HAD s-off and an unlocked bootloader.
I was in the process of modifying the CID and MID to match the ATT version of the phone so I could RUU the phone back to ATT. I accidentally set the wrong CID of DWS_0001 as I typed a D instead of a C. My MID is OPJA11000 which I luckily got correct.
Thinking I had the correct CID I relocked the bootloader and turned S back on. I then when to run the RUU for ATT and of course it failed.
My big problem is the RUU wiped out my recovery partition and now get Recovery Partition not found.
To correct the issue I went to re-flash my unlock code that I had saved when I origionally unlocked the bootloader but received an oem unlock turn off error when doing so.
I now have a phone that is on a stock developer rom, has no recovery, has a bad CID, and will not boot as it has a Software status: Modified flag. I can access the download, RUU, and bootloader menus.
I tried an RUU.zip with the following file and had no success: RUU_HIMA_UL_L51_SENSE70_ATT_MR_NA_Gen_Unlock_2.11.617.15_Radio_01.01_U11440601_76.03.50611G_F_release_445910_signed_2_Rom
Down to the 500$ question, is there a way to reset the modified flag to boot into the os so I can check OEM unlock, is there a way to OEM unlock from the download, bootloader menues, or is there a way to force an RUU to run no matter the CID? The only other option I can think of is there a way to reflash/unflast the unlock_code.bin?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Is an XTC2Clip or Java Card my only solution?

You should try getting a new unlock token, I'm not sure it'd work but what else is there to lose? I also am not sure it'd be different than the original.
Just saw that you were unable to even try unlocking it, sorry sir

I would but I am unable to do so thanks to the OEM unlock option that is in the developer menu that I cant boot to to check.

Maybe you could just send it back like that? I myself can't think of anything to get you out of the situation you're in. I'm sorry :/

I'm guessing they will charge me full price (500$) for the advanced replacement due to the software issue now present. :/
To be honest if this was not fixable I'd rather see if I can return the advanced replacement itself and see if they will only charge me for shipping. Ill then just work on my cracked nexus till the new ones come out.
Im currently trying to get an RUU.zip file for 3.35.617.16 but cant seem to save the rom.zip file from the .exe with out it being corrupt. I've reading that you can modify the android-info.txt file and put in your own CID and MID numbers. In not 100% sure this will work even if I can successfully modify the android-info.txt.
I was able to repair one of the rom.zip files but the android-info.txt is completely blank.
Can anyone provide me with a template of a good android-info.txt file so I can recreate mine or even modify a 3.35.617.16 .zip file for me to see if its flash able with locked bootloader and S-on?

I don't think it'll work because it's modified, but I could be wrong. What were you exchanging it for , if you don't mind me asking?

I need to put in the CID of DWS_0001 and MID of OPJA11000 as it keeps failing the device check.
I figured it would need signing but Im trying for anything right now.

Also it's 0PJA, the digit not letter. I wish you luck and I wish I could help

What you're trying to do is impossible with S-ON. RUUs are encrypted and therefore can only get unzipped by special methods*. That's why so many programs state they were corrupt although they're not. Therefore chances are high that the zip files you extracted are totally fine.
If you unzip them and re-zip them you break the encryption and the signature and a S-ON phone will never accept such a modified RUU which lacks the correct signature.
Try to find someone with a java card or an xtc clip. That way you might be able to re-S-OFF the phone and from there on you can correct the CID using fastboot.
* Latest 7-zip is capable of unzipping them with right click > 7-zip > open (the second one from above not the first) > #.

Thanks grim for the example!
My phone will not see the zip unless it is OPJA. If it has a zero it boots to normal downloader stating no file found.

Yeah sadly that's what I figured with the zip. I only continued to try because I was only getting Android-info errors and not zip errors.
I did message one of the members that is listed on the Verizon form but I have not received a response yet. It was just yesterday so I just need to wait. But do you have any members you would recommend?

In that case you didn't only mess up the CID. Normally it has to be 0PJAIMG not OPJAIMG.

Unfortunately one cannot remote S-OFF with a clip or java card, as it needs to be plugged into the phone. You either need to find someone locally or send to someone with a card.

I didn't change anything else besides the MID and CID. The only other thing that was done was attempting to flash the unlock code. I was running debloated stock developer prior to all of this. After changing the above I attempted to flash the RUU and that's it. Not sure how that would of been changed.

Yeah I would rather not ship my phone overseas to get fixed. The problem is no one was listed in Colorado on the thread so I still will probably have to ship it to someone in the states.
Would it be worth me trying to just buy one for myself? My biggest hesitation for doing this is there appears to be a lot of fakes on the web.

Not sure what "worth it" would be for you, but I can tell you the $179 clip from CellCorner here is genuine: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B012T05MPG?ref=olp_product_details. They are an official distributor.

Well the phone is off to Ohap. He/she stated they could fix the CID and MID. Will update when I get it back.

SHE LIVES!!!!!! Ohap was able to unlock and s-off to get the phone booting again. I have correctly modified the CID and MID back to AT&T standards and successfully run the RUU. Now just cant figure out why the software status modified flag is still present. Starting a new thread for that. Thanks everyone for the help!!!!

Problems with Wifi [Not scanning]

Hi guys,
This is my first thread here in XDA, so, forgive me by a possible mistake.
I recently bought a HOX, the seller said that is the international version.
I'm in 4.0.3, with software version 1.29.707.11 (already checked for updates, but phone says its up to date)
So, sometimes when i turn my wifi on, he doesn't connect in my network (already saved), i go to wifi settings, put to scan, and, aparently, the phone don't scan the networks and doesn't found my network too.
Obviously, im on the range of the network, and don't have that factory problem with bad wifi signal.
And, sometimes too, phone takes a lot of time to get carrier signal, so i turn on plane mode, then turn off, and finally get carrier signal.
My question is: is this normal? What can i try to fix it? (Thinked on a factory reset)
I don't tried anything yet.
If anyone could help, i'll appreciate and if the thread is on the wrong place, please move it
Just try flashing the RUU, which will delete everything and return it to stock.

I am VERY noob in HTC tools, can you say me what exactly is this "RUU", and where i can get it?
Its basically, a factory reset right? What is the difference from normal FR to this RUU tool?

The difference is that it will reflash the ROM from scratch, it's the first thing HTC do when you take your phone for repair. It's very safe (when flashed with decent remaining battery) and very thorough.
Check the Shipped ROM sticky in the development section.
I am searching about the Rom Update Utility, but i'm not finding a good tutorial to follow, explaining the whole process.
If anyone could help me in the process
Edit:
Thanks again Pope! I'll look in dev section
You just have to charge the phone, put the phone in fastboot mode (hold down the volume down key when switching on the phone, then navigate from there), plug phone into Windows PC and double click RUU.
You may want to do an "adb backup" (you'll have search for this) beforehand, flash RUU, test and then restore.

I'm not finding the correct RUU file for the One X, can you help me? Or just show me a place to search... (Some links here at job are blocked --') Basically finding the correct RUU file i'll do the rest without problem...
This "restore" you mean in the end, its the factory reset in the phone? Or another restore?
Don't need a backup, i got the phone 2 days ago hehehe
My HOX is totally clean.
No unlocked bootloader, no root.
This will not be a problem doing the flash with the stock RUU right?

No, that's perfect, you don't need anything other than stock, and it will remain stock.

Ben sorry for tons of questions hehe
I'm reading a tutorial, and on it said that i need my CID number, in order to download the correct RUU file for the correct region of my HOX. How can i know if this RUU you posted is the correct for my HOX?
I've tried to get my CID number (downloaded the fastboot flasher tool) but when i put the cid command he returns: CID > None lol
I Know that my HOX is from Shangai (has a SH in serial number) and got my MID number.
So, i just need to know which file i need to download, the right one of course hehehe
If i will need the CID to know, i'll ask for the files for fastboot commands (i don't found them)
If not, just confirm the link you posted ealier if its the correct RUU for my case.
PS.: This link posted is only for premium users, and i don't have a premium acc, can you provide in another mirror?
You can't flash the wrong RUU, the phone won't let you.
You don't need your CID as you are not unlocked, knowing that you are 1.29.707.x is enough. It's the right RUU.
I'm sure you don't need me to hold your hand whilst you use google to find that file somewhere else. The sticky dev thread I previously mentioned will likely have a ton of mirrors for the file.
So.. i'll look fot the file in other places.
Today, i've connected in my wifi network, and the phone says there's an update...
It's the same update announced days ago, but in my case with a different update number...
Phone has been upgraded to ICS 4.0.4 and Sense 4.1.
If the problems persist, i will flash the RUU anyway, but, because of this update, nothing changes right? The RUU file you posted still valid for my HOX?
Not any more, you've updated your hboot, so you'll need an updated RUU (you can't install on older hboot, packaged with an older RUU).

Fastboot has stopped working

Hi all... I'm still pretty green so any help would be greatly appreciated.
When I try to fastboot it say 'no gift file' then continues to say 'loading 0P6BDIAG.zip... no image'
I'm trying to get my device back to stock and I'm pretty sure that the 0P6BIMG.zip that I was using was for a different carrier or something (in hindsight).
Any one know a fix for this?
thanks in advance
Connect your device directly to your computer, use adb to get phones to computer connectivity. Fastboot flash the files you need to get back to stock ? Do you know how to ?

The update zip needs to be the same CID and MID to install properly. You'll need to delete that file, otherwise the phone will keep trying to install it (and fail).

Yes, S-OFF would probably solve your problem since you were able to downgrade your firmware with older RUUs if your phone was S-OFF. Nevertheless you need a working system and root because the only way to achieve S-OFF on the M9 is the sunshine app. Ignore what I wrote in the last sentence. I forgot that you can get S-OFF by using a java card. However I have no expierences with java cards so I can't tell you whether there are conditions that need to be fulfilled if you want to use one.

Sunshine needs an unlocked bootloader, root and a booting system on the M9. So it's not an option in your current situation.
You can buy a java card on your own (I know that's a bad suggestion because they're so expensive) or you look for someone who owns one and does not live in the States. Some phone repair shops here in Germany advertise that they do java card service so I highly doubt that they are only available in the US.
Edit: Or as said before, you can use the RUU service I linked in post #4.

Thanks for your patience. Looks like the RUU service you referenced is my best chance to get my phone working. Thanks for the link - I wouldn't have thought of looking for that. I can't find any prices to buy a Java card. I get the impression it would be cheaper to buy a new phone! There are lots of posts about sending your phone off to somebody that already has a Java card. They all seem to be in the States. I've learnt an expensive lesson - make sure that the RUU you're going to flash is good before you flash it! Or stick with OTAs!
Many thanks for your help.

The 2.10.401.1 RUU does exist. Unfortunately it seems that the file I downloaded was partially corrupted.

Just got an M9 today and need some tips...

Hello everyone, I I just got an M9 at my local Telus store and I would like to be able to do everything with it like I am able to do with my M7, so I know I will need to use sunshine to get S-OFF and I would also like to be able to change everything from the rom to the kernel to the OS, everything, so I was just wondering if someone could let me know the best order to go about doing things, meaning should I do sunshine first then worry about flashing a recovery and all that, or should I do the recovery first so that I can backup the phones current state? The phone currently says this in the hboot screen:
*** LOCKED ***
LK-1.0.0.0000
OS-1.32.661.6
and this is what it says on the phones Setting-About-Software screen:
Android version
5.0.2
HTC Sense version
7.0
Like I mentioned before, it would probably be best if I can make a backup of the phones current state just in case there are any issues, so to do that I know I need a recovery, but do I need to do the HTC Dev unlocker before I can do so? or do I have to flash a recovery first before everything else?
Now, before anyone gets upset with me for asking these questions because they have most likely been asked 1000 times before, I am not asking to be spoon feed all the details step by step, I am just asking to be pointed in the right direction and asking for you guy's opinions on the best way to go about doing things so that I do them right the first time... So if anyone could please take a minute to help me out and get me pointed in the right direction then it would be greatly appreciated... thank you very much...

First thing you should do is unlock your bootloader. After that you can install twrp and flash supersu (most can be found here) Once you are rooted run sunshine. After that the sky is the limit. You will be free to flash anything and everything. I know because I've done it. If you want to convert to a developers edition there is a post here. Personally I do not use my stock recovery or system image backups to download ota's. I prefer to run an RUU and do fresh installs. Reason why is because I am constantly changing firmware and roms. A lot of roms are based on the WWE firmware.
let me know if you have any more questions

Thank you very much for the tips.. Do I use the HTC Dev website to unlock the bootloader? I seen a link in the dev thread that said Unlock bootloader without HTCDev(root required), but I bet that the HTCDev way is probably the best best. which did you use? I'm not at home right now so I will begin when I get home later on tonight and if I need anything else I will post back, plus I post back to say how everything goes.. Thanks again for help, it is very much appreciated...

I've used htcdev for all 2 out o 3 of my m9's. third one is a developer edition so it wasn't needed.
just note download mode is fastboot mode on the m9. htcdev says to boot to fastboot mode and if you do not know than you can waste hours trying to figure it out.

Ok so I got the bootloader unlocked and TWRP installed, right now I am taking a backup of the phones current state just in case. Now I just need to flash the SuperSU beta from the link you provided and then run sunshine, after that I would like to flash the latest OS for my phone, but I am not sure which version to use, I think this one is correct http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/development/firmware-red-t3097678 but I am not 100% sure, do you know if this is the correct latest version for my phone?
Also should I supercid my phone before updating the firmware by entering "fastboot oem writecid 11111111" while in download mode? because my cid is TELUS001 and I do not see that cid listed in the androidinfo.txt file that is in the firmware zip...
Thanks again for all your help...
**UPDATE** I now have S-OFF, I can't believe how smooth the whole process is now with sunshine compared to almost all of my other HTC phones, hats off to those guys for sure... Thank you very much for getting me this far!!! I appreciate it very much...

I was actually just going to tell you to type
Code:
fastboot getvar all
while in download mode and to copy and paste that into a file a text file somewhere so you always have it. then you can supercid. I actually have never seen any firmware for your carrier. what is your mid? this is where I get all of my firmware from. I learned how to remove the red text using hex editor and I also throw in a custom splash screen before I flash.
Here is a link for your stock firmware. not sure what the most up to date is but most custom roms are using the WWE firmware anyways.
p.s. either quote me or tag me if you need a faster response. I'm not getting notifications otherwise.

My mid is 0PJA11000 but the one that is listed in the androidinfo.txt file of the firmware that I linked earlier is 0PJA10000, does this mean I cant use it? in all I plan to flash ViperOneM9 3.5.0 for the rom and it says it requires 2.10 but my phone is currently at 1.32

I honestly don't know if the hardware is any different but it looks like your mid is the same as the dev ed. check this one out. @clsA is very knowledgeable on the m9. I learned a lot of what I know from his posts.
Personally I have gotten so relaxed that I just change my mid and cid to whatever it is I want to flash and just go for it. But I also understand that I'm risking a brick by doing so..lol

took a look at the thread and it looks like all I need to do to flash 2.10 which is the international version is type fastboot oem writemid 0PJA10000 while in downloader mode because like you said and which I also confirmed in the other thread that my phone is the same as the dev ed and I should be able to switch back and forth with the same command

If going to dev ed I have had better luck running an RUU and accepting ota's as far as the radio goes. my reception went from 2 bars to full bars doing it that way verses just flashing the newest firmware. But it is a very long and tedious process and since you just got your m9 I'm sure you want to use it already..
What rom are you thinking about flashing?

I am hoping to flash ViperOneM9 3.5.0, it was the only rom I ran on my M7 and I loved it, so I'm really hoping to have it on this phone too... I just asked in the roms thread to see if anyone else there is on my same network to see how they got it working... and to be honest I don't mind waiting in order to get things done the right way the first time, know what I mean...

Viper is one of my favorites. Was using it for months. They are good about replying too... A little too good because you get spoiled. Then when you post on other roms and nobody ever replies you realize how good those guys are..haha
check out the second line on this thread to reclaim 3 gb of data after using sunshine. I've been s-off for months and just saw this today.

do you know where I can find the latest international RUU? what rom are you running now?
@bigp951
Ok so I got the firmware updated to the latest international version 2.10 and was able to flash the ViperOne Rom and I love it just like I did for my M7... Everything is working great, except I have the problem that you mentioned would happen, I only show 1 bar for my signal strength, could you please let me know exactly what you had to do to fix it? Also, I would just like to say thank you once more, you helped me out a great deal and you made my upgrade to the M9 an absolute cake walk, so thank you very much for everything and for explaining the proper steps to take, I appreciate it very much...

Is anyone able to assist me with returning to stock recovery from TWRP?

Hi all
Sorry if this is a stupid question - I'm still a rookie to this stuff but I'm getting my head around it now.
I picked up a HTC 10 and I didn't like it very much coming from a HTC One M8 Google Play Edition, I just miss stock android so much. I tried out some other ROMs to see if that would help but it doesn't and I don't want to wait months for an AOSP ROM (if one will ever come) so I am going to get rid of the phone and buy a Nexus device.
It would be ideal if I can return to locked bootloader and go back to stock recovery from TWRP which it currently has. I see HTC has the RUU on their site but its branded USA, is it safe to use on a European phone? Or is there another way I can return to stock recovery and locked bootloader? It's not essential, I'm sure I'll be able to pass it onto a techy friend either way but would be nice to have it as close to how I got it as possible if anyone is able to offer some advice.
Thanks in advance
Take a look in guide section at least two threads that provide the files you need
Sent from my HTC 10 using XDA-Developers mobile app

Hi there. It's not locating the files that I'm struggling with, as I said I'm still a bit of a rookie and was wondering if someone would be willing to help me out with how to use the files. I realize it's a big ask but I figured there's no harm in asking.

You can't use the US Unlocked RUU on the European phone, but there is an RUU for the WWE model (401) here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/stock-stock-collection-recovery-ruu-ota-t3359297
You will never get back to 100% stock unless you spent $25 to S-Off your phone with sunshine, because when you lock your bootloader back, your device will show as RElocked in download and bootloader mode instead of just locked. So...IMO, unless you want to spend the $25 so you can return it, I would just leave it as unlocked and save the next person the hassle of unlocking it.
As for stock recovery, many are available in the thread I linked to above as well.

you need the htc_fastboot.exe file. fastboot.exe can't handle files this large.
Here is the link to download
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8OH6sFjVE1lVG9JUE1yR0lTckk
copy this to fastboot folder.
command is the same, just add htc_ in front of fastboot

Sorry. No idea. Maybe you have a bad download for ruu.zip. I would try re-downloading it.
