HAD a Note 7 which is as we all know best in class for camera, water resistance but despite being a PhoneAholic can't decide whether or not to go for Pixel XL..had every Nexus device and sometimes miss extra features that Samsung provide...but then HATE their slow firmware update schedule....decisions decisions !

Im right there with you. Just got me replace Note and I love this phone but the promise of the bleeding edge is calling me toward the pixel xl.
My decision is going to be based on two items.
1. What's the rear glass for?
2. Is that display pressure sensitive?
My guess is the purpose of the glass is the same as the 6p....it's just to transmit the antenna signals and data and stuff. The screen being pressure sensitive was a rumor I heard a while back but nothing more since then....so my guess is it won't have it. I also heard that the fingerprint sensor was supposed to have gesture control.....but that rumor mill has been silent too.....so I'll assume it won't have that either.
The pressure sensitive display rumor is alive and well. The pixel launcher tear down shows icons with an api for what's called quick actions.
I'm hoping the rear glass is for either wireless charging or a touch panel

I think it's just the fingerprint scanner that can detect gestures: http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...fication-shade-gesture-coming-on-new-nexuses/
Wireless charging would be great. I was really disappointed not having it in the current nexus line.

Still wouldn't need an entire rear glass for that.
Rear glass: wireless charging capabilities and antenna or a second display? Who knows?!
I really want to see if it can be a monocrome second display. It could be awesome. It can be used for notifications or something else!
I don't think, for now, it worth changing...

pixel xl if you can afford it
why not glass glass is for better protection then plastic
idk
Stick with the Note 7 for a few months and then if people love the XL pick one up.
As long as the note is exynos then note all the way...not even a fair comparison.
If its a snapdragon note then pixel....thats also an easy choice.

This lag is killing me!! Battery isn't so great either. Might have to bust a move over to the pixel. 6P was a great phone. Not a big fan of HTC thought.

Same boat here, haven't got my Note7 yet as its backordered, I can get it for free since I'm on a corporate plan or pay for the Pixel XL, not sure if its worth it though...
nvm
No sdcard , 2.0f camera (bad lowlight performance), not water resistant...
And historically mediocre to poor build quality. Does not seem too enticing.

If you want Project Fi then go Pixel.
If you want to flash various cool ROM's then go Pixel.
If neither, then Note 7 all the way.
I answer "yes" to both questions, so I'm very interested in the Pixel depending on how well it reviews.

Do you really think the pixel xl will be community friendly? I imagine a lot of those exclusive features won't be portable over to custom Roms. Just saying. And their a lot of their optimizations also.

Who cares about exclusive "features". Not me anyways.
I would be shocked if there is not huge ROM development for the Pixel within just a week after the phones ship.

For $1200 CAN and not offering. Sd support or 256gb of internal storage.. stereo speakers... a bigger screen than 5.5...waterproofing etc....they can keep the pixel .

Love flashing Roms. And the latest software. But I don't see how this phone is just as much as an iPhone or a note 7. Should be few hundreds less in my opinion. Note 7 here I come. Maybe I'll get a cheap Nexus 5x for my flashing addiction.
Mate, even I'm keeping my Nexus 6

Yeah he's right, all flagship phones are so close in speed, battery life, have high resolutions and good cameras. You should base your purchase on what features it has that you value more than the others. I personally will go for the v20, for the DAC.
I keep flipping back and forth between my Note 4 and V10. The V10 has better reception, better DAC, more RAM & more storage, is thinner, and has marginally better battery life.
But I prefer the Note 4's screen, physical home button, camera, faster GPU, wireless charging and definitely like the actually fast QC capability. Also in the V10's favor is that it'll likely get Nougat but the Note 4 was lucky to even get a buggy MM update that'll likely never be bug-free.
Pixel XL is out due to a smallish screen and no expandable storage. Z Force is out also due to the smaller screen, unnecessarily large bezel due to the front fingerprint scanner that's not a home button and of course, no 3.5mm jack.
I am thinking a V20 would be a nice upgrade but it's not a huge enough upgrade to warrant spending big $.
Getting the phone tomorrow but been reading people's problems.....
If you had to buy a phone again would you still get the pixel xl ?
Thanks
Yes

I liked all of the customization of the stock OS. I liked that I could use capacitive navigation buttons or on screen buttons. The design of the OnePlus 3 is beautiful to me also. It just gave me more joy while using and it. The Pixel is fast and the screen is better but that's about it, imo.

For your money you will get a snappy phone that's comfortable to hold (the chin has a purpose) , looks great, the software is the best out there. It is Google at its very best. Also the camera is the best on a phone and the addition of unlimited storage means constant photos and 4k video!
The battery life is very solid and the phone does not crash, slow down or do anything peculiar. The screen is also very nice and updates are provided as soon as they are available.
No other phone offers this same package. Also Chinese phones are snooping on us!
Huge oneplus 3 fan here chiming in. Do I miss my OP3, yes. What I don't miss is how buggy the software could be. I miss the size and I honestly think the camera was a bit better (not impressed with the pixel camera, seems very grainy) but the big thing is the software. This phone if flawless. I might consider dropping down to a pixel and ditch the XL.
I'd absolutely buy the Pixel XL again, no questions asked.

Same. I wonder if they realize how many customers they are losing out on by continuing to not put in certain bands. Or, do they need someone's permission? Either way: notch = no sale, for me.
I don't see the reason for switching to a OP6. I don't even consider it as an upgrade.
OnePlus screens have never been amazing
Snapdragon 845 over 835... do you really need the difference in processing power?
Camera is going to be definitely worse, even the S9 still struggles against the Pixel 2.
Software updates aren't going to be faster, that's for sure
Battery life and RAM might be better though I have never ever had RAM problems with my Pixel 2. RAM is there for being used, free ram is wasted ram.

Very good points. I would only consider one as something extra to play with, not a daily driver.
On your first point, I certainly wouldn't describe the Pixel 2XL's screen as amazing, either. I'm not referring to blue shift. That doesn't bother me. I'm more about ghost swipes and graininess.

I understand somebody can upgrade their Pixel 2 XL to an S9 or S9+ with the main reason of having a way better screen, but I think OP6 screen will not be worth the switch.
If it worked on VZW, would ditch the Pixel and go back to the OnePlus in a second. It is better in every single way except the camera. But the 6 might close that gap more.
one thing is having used 3, 3T and 5, there is a touch latency where it cannot even beat Nexus 6p. seems liek there is lag while 6p, 2xl there isnt any.
however the 6 do interest me with the screen to size ratio.. notch doesnt bother me
Nada! Our Pixel XL 2 keeps getting better and better with more Development! Salute'
I was an upgrade every year user before but have turned into an every two year person now. So 2019 for me but I'm also still waiting for a Sprint compatible variant which will probably never come. I'll never be switching carriers as Sprint is good everywhere I need it to be and cost is good.

I was thinking about getting one as a secondary device, just because it seems like OnePlus is replacing/has replaced the now dead Nexus line in terms of development.
It would be nice to have a device to just tinker with and install mods, ROMs, kernels, and so on.
But I'd definitely keep the Pixel 2 XL as my daily driver just because of things like the camera and overall smoothness of stock Android.
No... After using Samsung devices for years, I got a Pixel 2 XL for the quick updates despite the missing features compared to the Galaxy S7/S8/S9, and so far I'm pretty happy with my choice and I'm dealing better than I thought I would with the lack of a microSD card reader, wireless charging and minijack audio port.
The way I see it, OnePlus phones are a lose-lose situation: they lack the quick Android updates the Pixel has AND they lack the features that make the Galaxy S7/S8/S9 such great phones (terrific display, IP68, wireless charging, great camera, SD card reader, etc.) so yeah, I'm not interested at all in the OnePlus 6.
For me the only dilemma I have these days is pretty simple: Do I go with the quick Android updates and great user experience +
decent hardware (Pixel) or do I go for all the hardware bells and whistles but a less enjoyable software experience (Galaxy/Note)?
I'm not saying the OnePlus 6 is a bad phone for others, but it's not a phone for me

I see your points but just a little devil's advocate here, your missing one of the best reasons to get a OnePlus. It's got the best performance for the money. Yes they've been climbing up in price every year but it's still ~$250-$300 less than comparable Pixel and Galaxy phones. Yet it's one of the fastest in everyday multitasking, great RAM management, and very good battery. Even if they have it rise up to $599 for the higher OnePlus 6 model, it's still a decent savings.

Have you even owned a OnePlus 5T? Doesn't sound like it. You are spreading misinformation. The main developers are former XDA/Custom Rom Devs who were hired to work for OnePlus. They have Beta releases which they freely communicate and offer instructions/support how to install and run. The last Beta 3 had full fling/swipe gestures which at the same time expanded the screen fully, not the bad fling Nav gestures that are on the custom Roms here which still leave the bottom part of the screen blank/Nav space present and don't expand the view/icons etc to the bottom to gain full use. That is fully functioning in the OnePlus 5T Beta 3 released that is rock solid overall with few bugs. The profile of the 5T phone/near frameless/size are all way ahead of the Pixel 2 XL. The AMOLED screen is much better on the 5T than the Pixel XL 2 in every way. To say the screen is good on this phone is ridiculous with all of the verified off angle blue tint and other issues that became a public fiasco for Google. Mind boggling why this phone looks and performs the way it does with Google in control of the process. The only thing they don't have is the camera/software on the OnePlus. They have some of the best Devs who came from XDA/Custom Rom worlds...hence why they were hired to work for them. Read up on those facts/history is you would like. Also, they have some of the good Dev support from XDA, only second I would say to HTC Dev. This new Pixel with Treble has caused a lot of issues, and soon everybody is going to be dealing with, even OnePlus and other manufacturers since they have no choice. So the future should get better for everybody.
Clean Android experience? Oxygen OS is already pretty stripped down. You can run Nova on it like I do with the Pixel, or AOSP or whatever, it is just as generic and they are open to the standard Google Android experience as anybody, with their own twist if you choose to run their launcher.
Memory/processor loaded up on the OnePlus 5T. No SDCard like a lot of phones today, but dual sim slots if you need it. It is a great performing phone, up there with the best for much less money. If they implement VZW band support and improve that camera, I'm ditching this Google Pixel XL 2 phone is a heartbeat. I personally was running the latest Beta 3 on my 5T with swipe gestures and Nova, unlocked, rooted with blu_sprk custom Kernel/TWRP version and it was a phenomenal performer and great phone. Since I don't take a lot of photos and use the camera that much...really not a big deal. I have a $3k SLR if I want to be serious about photography to use.
But to each his own. Only reason I even am using this Pixel is because there are very few phones on VZW which you can unlock the bootloader/root and maintain functionality to customize it. Only other phone you can buy to do this really is a V30+, and even then, not as good as the Pixel 2 XL.
Not in a million years. On contract in the UK you're basically paying top dollar for a sub par phone. Did they ever fix the upside down jelly displays or put a decent cam in them yet?

What did people who switched from OnePlus to Pixels dislike about the OnePlus phones (aside from potential security holes for the Chinese government - I couldn't care less if they were spying on me).
I was considering trading my 3XL for the OP7Pro as that 90hz display looked amazing when playing with it in the store.

I don't worry about the whole Chinese government conspiracy theories. lol. I personally changed back because I love the pure android google experience, I don't like any slight change or deviation no matter how small. Oneplus isn't far from it but once you've used pure android (for me) nothing really ever compares. I even rooted and installed the pixel experience rom and it got me close but it wasn't the same coming from a pixel 2XL. Since I've switched I have no itch or thought to unlock my bootloader or want to flash anything. Don't get me wrong it is a beautiful phone but its not for me.
Lol, this has to be a joke right? Pixel 3 XL may lack more than 4GB ram, but it is far more superior device than oneplus will ever be.
Software experience and Camera is just galaxies away from oneplus. I personally would never ever consider oneplus over pixel devices, or any other android flagships. Oneplus is just getting too big headed.

There’s zero objectivity in your statements. A pixel 3 XL 128gb in Canada costs 1260 dollars so I’m not sure how the price is a factor here for what you get.
Plus I wouldn’t go as far as saying the pixel 3 is galaxies ahead in software and camera. The software is almost identical with tweaks baked in by OnePlus. The pixel takes better pics but that doesn’t mean OnePlus is horrible. You cant just pick and choose things to suit your bias. What about the screen , 855, ram, cooling, 3 focal camera lengths and larger battery lol
I was so close to selling my Pixel 3 XL, it's in amazing condition, not one scratch, and still has 8 month warranty...
BUT
I can't stand curved edges. The way I hold a phone, it would drive me crazy. Why in the world would they curve the edges? Crazy.

To be fair the OnePlus 7 pro is the newest generation and it still can't match the pixel for camera. But no point comparing until the pixel 4 .
Hi pixel users,
I want to learn if you are having same thoughts like me. I want to replace my 2017 pixel 2xl but never convinced by any brand that is real update. Google camera( only photo not video) always makes me stick with my device. Pixel 3xl was never upgrade when it first released. Oneplus 7 is still behind when competing the camera. Pixel 4 will be bazel king still and it is not sold in my country Turkey. Galaxy phones are always washed out camera and bad battery with exynos. Huavei having problem with Google so hard to trust. So another year with pixel 2xl probably.
I've had similar conclusion. Pixel 3 - ugly, Pixel 4 - looks like it's gonna be ugly too. OnePlus phones are the closest competitors in my eyes with their clean software and continued long Android updates, but camera still isn't on Pixel level and water and ingress protection isn't IP certified. Samsung's software isn't for me and their update cycle is terrible.
So Pixel 2 for my wife and Pixel 2 XL for me are still one of best phones out there for us, while it's getting Android updates I won't be changing them soon.
These of course are subjective thoughts.

I'm waiting for the OnePlus 7T, should be released around Thanksgiving
Same here. I thought I might have gotten the Pixel 4 but the 2 XL has just been too perfect for me to think about updating.
Pixel 4 XL would be the way to go
I need good camera, so only pixel, samsung or Huawei. I tired of big phones, so thinking about s10e. People talks what oneUI is good and clean like stock and I like what s10e has flat sreen.
I like, what 1.5 year old pixel is fast like new.

I agree with that!
I wish everyone would stop making tall skinny phones already. I love my 2xl performance wise, but sorely miss my Nexus 6 screen. That was the PERFECT size phone. It's bezels are close in size to the 2xl. If only the guts were easily swapped between the two of them!

While I love my P2XL and 3aXL, I would get behind an updated Nexus 6 in a heartbeat! Next to the HTC M7, the Nexus 6 was my absolute favorite device. Would love to get that phone's body with upgraded internals (really wish it was possible to update your device to newer hardware without changing the outside).

I thought to buy one but battery and camera performance is worse then pixel trust me. Size is perfect but has some disadvantages. It ıs also important which region you are from. SD is a lot better than exynos.

I really think that it will be future proof but bezels is making me think and the worst part is the region. It is not sold in my country Turkey. I have a bit hope for this year. They may start selling because 3a and 3axl are great alternatives for Turkish market. I would probably go for pixel 4 if I can.

Camera will be ok, I had samsung top line and I know Samsung's camera.
Yes battery worse, that's main disvadvantage for me.

I'm starting to see a lot of these opinions about the 2xl. Mine has been one of the best phones I've owned. Oneplus 7 pro or pixel 4 are the only phones I would consider.
