Hello everyone,
I purchased this phone (new) few days back, and after using it for a day, i have observed that this phone has overall reddish or pinkish tint on the display. Is this normal?
I have searched a lot about this issue, and what i found, people have talked about two types of displays, one with yellowish/warm colors and other with blueish colors.
My phone doesnt have yellowish tint, but it has reddish tint overall, which is more prominent in low brightness and also when comparing displays with my nexus 4. Is this normal with every lg g4, that this phone has more reddish color than bluish (on cooler displays).
Thanks

No, it's not normal, it's a known issue. The only way to fix it is to replace screen. Or just live with it.
I have same problem, after having other problems before with charging cable, and decided to change device.

Thank you for thr reply. Yeah it seems, its an issue with my phone's display. Unfortunately, it is not even in warranty. So i cant get display replaced free of cost. I think i will have to live with it now, thought it doesnt seem good at all. The pinkish or reddish tint looks ugly esp after using some other phone (with better display)
Anyway, did u find some work around for it? Seems only few people r facing this issue, coz i could not find many posts about this issue on google. Found some, but not many.

Unfortunatly there is no software fix except from replace the panel (it's an hardware problem).
Someone says it is more visible with dark color (so you can use bright screensaver just to hide a little the problem) but nothing a part from replacement will give you a real fix.
Look at the guide I provided in the general section. It should make a big difference. LG doesn't calibrate their displays so doing some calibration makes a lot of difference.

Alright. I think i ll have to live with it now. Its an awesome phone apart from the bad display (whcih i got). Hope my eyes start ignoring it .
And also i havent seen many people complaining about this issue. Seems only few handsets have this reddish/pinkish tint issue.
Btw, did u try the app "screen adjuster free". I have installed it and increased the values for green and blue by 8 and 10 respectively. But i m just testing it, i may chnage the values later. But this app seems to making things better. I know it just adds a layer to display, but at least one can get rid of that reddish tint.

Thank u very much. I have installed this app, and also paid for thr donate version. And so far this app has done a great job. It has removed the reddish tint from my display.
But i have one concern about this app, wont it have effect on battery and performance? Wont it slow down a phone bit?

Nope it has absolutely zero impact on battery.
Please share/thanks so more people know about this fix! Also if you want please post your config in the post to let people know what's the correct calibration for reddish tint.

Hello. Received my HTC Desire today (typing this post on this lovely device)
Unfortunately, I'm noticing a subtle pinkish display instead of white and wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?
This is my first AMOLED display and wondering if this is normal or have I got a faulty display and should get it replaced?
sounds like a faulty display, as you can see on many videos on youtube none of them are pinkish
if you have another camera (or phone with cam) try to take a pic of it and post it. ... it does sound strange never heard anyone complain about the display
The only pinkish thing on my phone is background in Google Mail app. But that's how it's supposed to be I guess.
If the screen brightness is turned to a minimum, there is a certainly visible pinkish tint to the screen. This isn't bothering me though as I don't ever plan to reduce the backlight to that level!

I think that pinkishness (now that's a word!) comes from overall theme colors. If you turn it down to the minimum and visit a while page on your browser it won't look pinkish. At least it doesn't to me.
Thanks everyone. Tried the suggestions and here's what happened.
If I turn down the brightness, the subtle pinkish display becomes very pinkish, definitely exaggerates the pink hue effect ...
If I turn up the brightness to full, the pinkish display disappears.
Here's the funny thing ... Google Mail definitely has a slight pink hue, regardless of what the brightness level is but in all other apps, it doesn't ...
So, fellow xda'ers ... should I replace it or not ...? I wish I could say the subtle pink hue doesn't bother me, but I can't help notice it in Google Mail (which also happens to be my number one, most used application).
Really, I need to know whether this is a fault (or the start of this display becoming 'more' faulty) or just something that AMOLED displays generally exhibit ...
Your thoughts are much appreciated, as always ...

I would still recommend you take a pic of the screen in "normal" brightness and post it, .. that way every one can see and compare it to their own device (preferably use stock wallpaper).
This happens on the Nexus One too. There is nothing to be concerned about.

Hi, will try to take a photo ... I'm out and about at the mo, but will be home later tonight ... Will use my HTC HD2 to take the photo and post it up ...
Think hue you see is probably due to a characteristic of the amoled used in the Desire (and Nexus One). Have a read here.
I get this too I just assumed it was due to the AMOLED screen.

No i think his issue is something different, .. as he is noticing it on the pictures also not only text, ... (text is mostly effected because usually the black and white intersects, thast where the problem appears). however in the pictures, there should not be a problem (unless if this picture is black/white ofcourse)
I have this too, and I have two Desires - it only appears on one of them, so not all machines are the same. See my post new post from this morning.

It's NOT serious. In fact you could say the pinkish one is slightly warmer (which many people prefer), leaving the other machine looking slightly blue and colder.
Unless the machines are side by side, you'd never notice. There is probably more difference between your desktop computer and your laptop.
i have a zune hd and that is amoled and there is not even a slight hint of pink, so this is not something to do with amoled as a technology in general.
Figured I'd post this, clearly pink hue in comparison to the iphone. However this is one of the only videos I've noticed it in
Hmm, cant post links as I'm new,

Yes, just wanted to post that one. I found another one.
Funny thing is that some devices have that effect, some of them hoesn 't (or effect is not visibile on video).
Hey guys. Just wanted to ask a thing.
When I see my One V at steep angles (or even at certain angles), the screen appears grainy. I mean, it looks like cluttered pixels. The Grain effect on screen is only visible on white backgrounds with high brightness. Is this a defect ? I read somewhere that this Grainy screen is visible because of the Adhesive glue. Please let me know if you experience this. Thank you.

Perhaps you could look at it normally? A phone isn't made to look at it from steep angles. And if it only appears on white backgrounds with high brightness, maybe use a different wallpaper and lower brightness (=better battery life). People want everything these days...

I completely agree with you. The purpose was to just find out if this is a defect or not. Do you experience this or get this grainy effect ? (I'm just asking)
i think you should go for a replacment..i dont have any such problem..and no1 here has it...you're the 1st one to report such kind of issue
I've already had my One V's screen replaced.
replace again then i think you got old stock of the phone///
whts ur manufacturing date written on the box?
It's been around 6 months since I've got my One V. I don't think that HTC will replace it.
Manufacturing date - July 2012
Other users of One V. Please see if you all get this Grainy Effect. Or am I the only one.

Is this normal? Greys have a green tint which is really noticeable on low brightness. Is this a limitation of AMOLED? But I don't recall this issue on my 6P or Note 4.
Hmm. Not having this issue...
Greys are really greenish. Though it happens only at some certain brightness level (a little more than the lowest).
The panel apparently is of low quality and has issues with greys. It's detailed in the anandtech.com review
Not noticing this on mine either.

I may have a slight tint on mine on greys, only on one half of the screen though. I'm colourblind so it could be green. I'm thinking it's more purple-ish though...

Yes what I had experienced from my last 3 phones I.e galaxy s2,s3,s4,s4 mini,s5 all of em which had amoled screen all have this thing. Its like if u seen u can't able to unseen. But its hard to notice. I think these displays are rather builded like this to work. Even my brother's new s7 has this thing.

Guess that answers that, cheers!. (although mine might be right side of the screen, not bottom)
On my phone, the bottom part is also "greener" than the upper part. This is especially visible when brightness is set low (which I do when not outside, because it totally suffices).
Do more people have this problem?
Would returning the unit and getting a new OP3 make sense, or are these unevennesses typical??

I'm wondering if it's just an AMOLED thing... If it's really really bad then you may be better off RMA-ing it of course.

The findings on Anandtech have nothing to do with the quality and everything to do with the calibration, which is just software.
Hi, is it darker like the pics from my thread? I think I have the same issue on my display, just at the middle of the screen.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/help/dark-line-oled-screen-t3402293
One thought came to me: In the upper half of the OP3 are the parts which get warm when the phone "works". Perhaps the part of the screen which is warmed up regularly loses a bit of green tint, while the lower, colder part remains as it is??? Just a thought...
I get a weird purpley/dark colour on greys and when scrolling white font on black background, but only on minimum brightness.
After reducing brightness below a threshold (just above the minimum) the colours across the display seem to shift
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I got my replacement phone today. And. The display is even more worse. The colors are uneven, like some of them have here. The bottom is greener and the top slighlty pinkier/the correct color.
Argh. That's what I'm afraid of (sent my device in for replacement on Saturday):
That, as a replacement, simply someone grabs a box with a new device and sends it to me, without testing.
Edios, what did you write in the service request as your reason why you want a replacement? Did you write about the display problems?
Welcome to the lottery...
Does anyone know: If the 2nd device also has a defect, and the 14 day return time since I got the 1st device is already over, can I demand from Oneplus that they take back the 2nd device and that I get my money back??

I didn't even mention the issues, Amazon immediately gave me a replacement.
The problem is, they provide only a single replacement and now insisting to give a refund. But I want this device cos there's no other device that I'm interested in. And it's out of stock also.
For what it's worth, these sound like typical AMOLED issues. There are long threads in the Galaxy S6, S7, etc. forums with people experiencing the exact same thing. AMOLEDs just seem to not be as consistent as LCDs in the quality control department and it's always just the luck of the draw whether you get one with green or pink tints or not.
Hello, I've noticed that when I use my phone in night mode I can see green areas on the screen. Are there other people in my case?
No on mine so far. Black is black no greenish.
is see this too sometimes esp at night when its dark in the room with no other lights - in the day when its brighter is not visible
it does seem to be an issue with some backgrounds as i noticed in apps where the background is black (not dark grey or greysh) this isnt visible
so not sure whats going on - but i didnt had this issue with the s10 .....

ok but how do you explain that its only visible sometimes and then sometimes is not?
and is only showing on grey backgrounds etc
like now i have the phone in my hand and is looking ok
the best place to test is in the samsung daily or SMS app - the top part of the app thats meant to be black was sometimes showing more like greyish - now is proper black again?
like i said it seems to be dependent on the ambient light - i wouldnt want to replace the phone if its not an actual issue esp since it took me a whole day to get my stuff transferred and setup

Oled is known for reduced quality the lower brightness you go.
But all units will have varied levels of tints etc
In my case..
Unfortunately, yes. Also, it is more noticeable at 120Hz.
There is a thread about that in the Ultra section:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s20-ultra/help/green-tint-dark-background-low-t4065621
I also tried to get people with that problem in the S20+ section:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s20-plus/help/s20-ultra-oled-bad-uniformity-bright-t4067051
It is rather horrible and i noticed it right away the first time I used it in the dark. I think it can not really be fixed in Software, but it can be probably made less noticeable, as 120Hz is making it worse.
I wrote an 'email to the CEO' about that here:
https://www.samsung.com/uk/info/cont...email-the-ceo/ (example: UK)
If its same as below thread...Welcome to OLED!
Colour blending (blacks) problem
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9-plus/help/colour-blending-blacks-problem-t3765385
Had this on my S9+ and S10. Nothing can be done about it.
Using OLED since 2010. Starting with Symbian Nokias, Windows Phone Nokias and switching over with the S8+ - OLED only.
I suppose - never had a display that bad in this regard. At least never noticed it that bad right away. The upper right corner is almost always showing a green tint.
But I am glad, if it is not too widespread - then the S20+ I ordered will probably be fine.

Hi,
Just attached a picture of my screen with adaptive brightness with low light with screen at 120Hz.
At 60Hz the screen is even, at least almost even.
What is your opinion?
Thank you in advance.
Report it to Samsung, probably get it exchanged, if possible and it really bugs you.
I gave back the ultra because it was too much green tint. The plus has it as well, not as bad as the ultra.

Hi,
Return it and seller ordered another device to replace this one. Hope that the new device is ok
Best regards.
I got my Red Magic 8 Pro EU 256gb 12gb today.
While I was testing it I noticed the selfie camera display shows up in alot of situations, like on grey situations the display turns green at low and max brightness.
Anyone with the same problem?
Hi!
you reach out to the manufacturer or retailer to report the issue and see if it can be resolved. If the device is still under warranty, they may be able to repair or replace it for you.
Same issue here, but looks more like a software issue to me.
When you touch the screen, the camera overlaying part flickers and settles after a second to the color it should have. Perhaps they just need to speed up this process.
If on the other hand you mean a permanent mismatch, they just need to recalibrate.
Either way it is fixable by just software.
This is just some examples, that display covering the selfie shows up alot for me.
Okay i see, yours is quite more visible than mine. Mine is only really visible in dark gray background, but does not have this green tone to it.
Mine also has it although it's just visible when the brightness is from 0 to 15, and I think it's perfectly normal.
Green tint is more visible when the display is set to 120hz, and lightens or "flickers" when idle because it switches to 60hz to lessen power consumption.

The grint tint is more visible on higher refresh rate. It "flickers" because once the display is idle, it switches to 60hz to save battery.
I am starting to be glad that I missed the first shipment... as days pass by more and more issues come up with this phone.
First this display issue that the camera is visible and in another thread overheating issue.
Reviewers said that the camera is not visible during normal usage and only in really heavy sunligh from the side and they showed 97% stability in 3DMark.... both have been disproved by users feedback here on XDA.

Perhaps they're using it with high brightness that's why they did not notice it. Well, I'm hoping it's not a factory defect or whatnot. Haha.
My camera is only visible on very low brightness levels, and I also haven't noticed any overheating problem. The only pet peeve I have about it is, that there's no global audio equalizer, only in game space. And that one disables once you put the phone in standby.
