Hi,
I am having trouble with GPS on my desire since installing gingervillain. On both versions 1.4 and 1.5 GPS just doesn't seem to be working at all. I've tried a factory reset from the recovery menu and have tried re-applying the zip file but with no luck. GPS is enabled but I don't even get an icon on the status bar at the top when it is supposed to be searching for a signal.
Thanks,
Chris
Reach for the skies
Go outside of your house. Point your phone to the sky. Your position should should showing on your GPS.
Or it could be the program itself? Try different gps using apps like maps, facebook places etc etc.
Also do post what radio you're currently using on your phone. It could help people diagnose your problem better.
Tried outside and using gpstest off the market with no luck. I don't usually have any problem with gps inside my house anyway. I don't even get an icon in the status bar at the top it's like it's not working at all. And before anyone says yes it is switched on! My current version is:
32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Any help would be much appreciated!

You must have the worlds strongest GPS in your desire. In normal ones, you need to be outside with the phone pretty much able to see the sky. On top of that, ideally it will need to be a clear sky.
Turn on GPS, open up Google Maps / your Navigation software (while outside). On my phone it only used to show the GPS icon in the task bar when a program was running that could use it.
Alternatively download GPS tools from the market (I forget the exact name).
If your GPS is indeed stuffed, take your phone back (if its under warrantee).
My GPS died on my phone. Completely. And before that it kept rebooting the phone. Had to take it back.

Hi
very interested in this thread as my GPS worked fine until I installed Gingervillain 1.4 last week and then updating to 1.5 on Friday
Radio : 32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14
I downgraded to GV 1.0 and my GPS was working ok again. I heard there was a known GPS problem fixed in GV 1.6 so I upgraded but the problem returned unfortunately. Any ideas?
Update the kernel with Villain set up, it cured my GPS problem.
GVChangelog:
Version 1.6:
* Fixed GPS problem (Thanks to CM Team)
+ kernel update defo works.

Hi,
Could you advise how I go about that? I thought the Kernel was updated as part of the gingervillain setup anyway?
Well I've had more fun with this! I just couldn't get GPS working on anything other than GV 1.0. I completely wiped my SD card and re-formatted the EXT3 partition. I then installed the stock RUU at which point GPS was predictably working. I then went through the flashing process of GV 1.6 and GPS was working this time. It was fine for a week or so but then the GPS stopped working again! I'm thinking it must be something to do with the dalvik cache now, that's the only reason I can think of for the GPS to stop working. I'm running out of patience with GV now so does anyone have suggestions for another stable 2.3 ROM I can move onto?
Thanks again,
Chris
Whenever I go to google maps or mapdroid, and tell it to locate me. It just says "Your current location is temporarily unavailable". I am running the latest software version. The GPS worked fine about 2 weeks ago, I haven't really used it since then. And whenever I tell it to locate me, I see the GPS symbol on the bar at the top (The satellite thing on the bar you can pull down) Any ideas? And also, if it helps, I got the phone about a month ago, from Rogers.
And, I can locate myself when using wifi networks. But when I am not connected by wifi, the GPS won't work.
Have you tried all the obvious things like make sure you have clear view of the sky, Use GPS Satellites ticked under Settings menu, reboot phone etc?
Sometime mine takes a while when on other days it takes only a few seconds

Yes, I have tried all those
And I have left apps such as GPS Test on for about half an hour, and the did not work either.
Any other ideas?
I experienced once or twice on my Arc not locking GPS signal at all. After two reboots all works again and GPS is fast.
However what I've learned from my experience is GPS sometimes has problems in some areas. And sometimes has a problem on Edge. Apparently many things can influence it's behaviour.
Try reboots.

By reboot, I assume you mean holding the power button, and shutting it off, and then turning it back on. I did that, and no help...
And also, I tried using the GPS in many locations, but it still does not work.
Although, I can get my location if I use wireless networks.

Yes by reboot I mean turning on and off the device.
So I don't know. So you say on WiFi you get your GPS working and on mobile connection not? Looks like a strange operator problem maybe. What about resetting mobile settings on phone?
If yuo flash yore arc with DooMKernel you will have this problem flash yore arc with fresh room I have this problem if I flash this kernel

I think what he was meant to type was ‘fresh rom’ – suffering from a case of fat finger syndrome I think!
Are you running the stock ROM or have you installed a different kernel/rom. If you running a non stock rom this could be the issue
I suggest you try this....
Access the service menu (open phone and dial *#*#7378423#*#*). This should bring up the service menu. Go into service tests and scroll down to GPS. From there you should be able to run some tests on your device to make sure its working properly.

I am not running a non stock rom. I am using the one which came with the device.
I did the location test, but it kept saying "Please Wait" for about 15 minutes, then I closed it.
hmmmm..... not to sure what else to suggest other than a fresh install. Have you upgraded the software on the phone since you got it via SE Pc companion? If not then try that as this will put latest android version on your device.
Or perhaps you might have installed an app recently which is conflicting somehow with the GPS function
Other than that, I'm not too sure, but if it's only a month old I'd be tempted to end it back for a replacement

Ok, well. I have the latest android version, and I removed the apps I installed in the last week. Did not work..
So can you please tell me how to reformat the phone.
And is there a way I can backup my messages, apps, photos?
just connect you r phone to PC and open PC companion program from your PC...go to update.i think it will tell you that you have the latest firmware and it will give you the option to repair.just press on repair and it will instal a fresh firmware to your form, in other words it will format your phone and instal a new firmware...back up ur photos and music and other things on s card is simply by copy them to your PC...formatting your phone will not delete any files on the s card however it is recommended to copy every thing to your PC. hope this helped you

find a solution? my xperia play doesnt get a signal.
Hey guys, i Have a Xperia play but this thread looks more as i m passing through, i installed several roms and kernels but my GPS Wont Works, im thinking that my last overclock has burned my GPS module, is this possible?
Hi, here im again, this time i m very happy because i repaired my gps of my xperia play and think that your problem is the same, i tried so many ways:
* Custom Kernels : DoomLord, darkforest, and others,
* Custom Roms: Ics, others that i dont remember (i m on this by 2 months)
* Stock Firm: 4.0.1.A.0.283, .42, .62
* Tried to change the BaseBand so many times
* Tried to clean the main board chip (yes i disassembled my phone many times).
* Tried other things that i dont remember.
Today i flashed a 2.3.2 android stock version, and the signal is best, hsupa working better, and (not in the first time) Gps working fine.
I put "not in the first time" because the gps is a complicated part of the phone it needs so many things working together to be ok that it only worked 4 hours after i had flashed, testing an testing, purging the a-gps data, downloading so many apps to gps... at the end "GPS Status App" on the option "Manage A-GPS status" solved the problem.
Thank you for the attention,
Guys, help. GPS cant find current location but sees satellites. I flashed X-gamer with Night-elf kernel my Xperia Pro. On stock it was working fine.
So what it could be? I havent found any mentions of this problem in Firmware of Kernel threads. Maybe its some missed app?
xperia arc s gps not connecting
I have same problem with my Xperia arc s,
it is not showing a single satellite in GPS STATUS app, neither connecting with anyone, just blinking on i have spend nights on internet and hours on phone but haven't solve my problem, rebooted my phone, nothing helping me,
and anyone knows that does XPERIA ARC S has digital compass?
Hey everyone, I've been searching these forums and online for a while now and I can't seem to figure out what's wrong with my GPS. First off I am running AOKP Build 34 and franco's kernel. Second, the GPS use to work just fine... never had any problems with it at all. It just stopped working out of nowhere. Third, I am using AT&T's unlimited data plan for non-smartphones (don't know if that makes a difference).
Everytime I run Google Maps it shows my location but with a huge blue circle around it too. When attempting to use Google Navigation, it is stuck on "Searching for GPS." and never locks on. Now the weird thing is whenever I use an app that involves GPS, the GPS icon does flash on the top left corner in the status bar.
So far, reformatting phone, installing different roms, wiping cache/data/dalvik, using default kernels, using any of those GPS fixing apps have NOT worked for me. I'm starting to think that the GPS module is defective or my APN settings are incorrect (Which I haven't touched). When I pull up GPS test app, it doesn't show any satellites are visible either. Any ideas?
Stock?
teach a man to fish, you feed him for life. teach a man to fastboot, and you create competency. and less threads on xda.
So I reverted back to stock and problem is still there, guess it's time to send it back to Handtec to get it warranty exchanged... damn this sucks!
Good luck! GPS seems not to be the best on the GN!
Hello everybody and glad to be part of this community.
First please excuse my English.
I recently bought an LG G2 LS980 ZVD kitkat 4.4.2 and notice that my GPS doesn't work, I tried every possible solution found in internet (not with flashing the device, because I'm like 2 days old in android ) even a peace of paper under the antenna.
I found a way to get my GPS work and get a lock in seconds but for the first start of the phone after a factory reset, if I restart the phone the GPS problem appear again.
So this what I did after baying the phone:
root the phone with iroot.
trying several solutions in internet(no luck).
factory reset.
set new configuration of the phone (language, name, email...).
let the update of google services inc complete.
let google hangout update.
disable GPS and enable it again(the phone ask me to accept the terms -->ok... here he ask me again that the localization services was disabled in a previous version of android, do you want to enable it-->ok...).
click on google maps (wifi is enable).
get a lock (fix) in seconds .
GPS test app: about 21 sat in view, about 12 sat in use :victory: .
For a month I thought that I fixed the problem until I restart my phone the problem return again. But I did the fallowing observation:
enable plane mode --> no GPS signal.
disable plane mode --> GPS test app and androits GPS app: getting about 8 sat in use, about 50 feet accuracy then signal freeze.
I reset my phone again, GPS work only for the first start again.
Any idea what does the phone do in the 2nd start after factory reset!!!
Thank you all.

If you want to rule out a software issue, use LG Flash tool and image your phone with a .tot file.
Here's a thread about it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2702422
Get the ZVE version and flash it. This will wipe your ENTIRE phone of course.
If that doesn't fix it, it's a hardware issue.
Oh, and welcome to the community
If you're nervous about this method. Watch a Youtube video to good idea. Then follow the guide exactly, you'll be ok.

Thank you for your reply.
Sorry but I don't think that is a hardware issue, because I tested it within a month without restart, a week, and now a day... the 2nd restart will make the GPS problem if I'm correct...
For the ZVE .tot I will see how to proceed with flashing... thank you again, but before that can anyone confirm the GPS issue FIX in the ZVE version.
Thank you.

Well, the G2 doesn't have a great GPS. It wasn't an "issue" per se, but it is a problem that some have and others don't GPS works great for me on ZVE and ZVG (Lollipop). ZVE is the latest Kitkat release and has proven to be solid and stable with good GPS. But like I said... the G2 GPS is flaky compared to other phones, I hope it sorts itself out with a complete refresh. That's what I would do.
Once you're up and running, turn on location and download GPS Status and toolbox. It has an option to download A-GPS data making your locks faster. Then watch as it picks up satellites (hopefully).

Roger that,
For me GPS Status and toolbox doesn't solve my problem (except if I'm connected to internet, the location is using A-GPS and doesn't show any sat). I think the problem is in using A-GPS beside GPS it self, if I'm not connected to internet the phone kinda refuse using GPS captors and wait for A-GPS... if I turn plane mode on then off the GPS reception start then stop and GPS Status and toolbox show many sat and stop too. I know this is weird but i was wandering is there a way to force not using A-GPS at all and see what happened. I think it's a solution for Chinese phone with MKT chipset maybe it's the same for LG. Sorry I'm not an expert so maybe I'm saying nonsense.

Yeah I don't think GPS status will solve your problem, that's why I suggested a full refresh. I never tried to force just GPS, but I would think disabling mobile data and wifi would do it, since it uses towers (and pull your sim).
I just picked up a refurb Sprint LG G2 LS980 from Freedompop. It came with 5.02 Lollipop installed. I have been trying to get the GPS to work reliably but it;s been a struggle. I find that I can only get it to work some of the time when my 3g radio is on. Doesn;t work for me on 4G/LTE or Airplane mode. When it does work, it works well enough. The GPS status app usually says I have anywhere from 8-22 satellites available but never connects.
Another odd condition, when the 3g radio is on, it never switches to 4g even when the GPS is not running. takes a reboot to fix it.
Anybody else have GPS issues like this and have any fixes? Not being able to use the 4G is not such a deal breaker for me since I usually uses offline GPS apps like CoPilot or Maprika. But I'd like this to be atleast somewhat functional or else I am going to have to return the phone. just weird that the GPS would be tied to the 3g Radio in anyway.
I'm running a stock marshmallow com with unlocked BL and root. EDIT: I meant .368 build not marshmallow.
My device cannot find my gps location when using navigation. Maps will find my location though it's not always accurate especially when I'm moving.
I've included screenshots of anything I thought relevant but unless it's an antenna issue I'm completely lost. Anyone know anything about this?
Stock Marshmallow on Z1c?
Sorry. My mistake. Typed the wrong thing. 5.1.1 build .368

Only things I can think of is 1. Double check settings > location and make sure it's on high accuracy, and 2. Try a couple of different navigation apps and see if it's the aame with all. If both are yes, the next troubleshooting thing would be to backup your rom and flash a different one, and test.
Both are yes and I've been on 4.4.4 and 5.1.1 though both were stock. Guess I could try a custom Rom but I'm starting to think this is a hardware issue.
I have the same problem on 5.1.1 .236 stock. In the city GPS works okay-ish if I'm also connected to Wi-Fi. The moment I disconnect from the Internet it gets stuck on my last location, and if I restart the Maps app it shows a gray circle and doesn't detect my location. I've been able to get "pure" GPS (w/o Wi-Fi) working by waiting 5-15 minutes with the Maps app open. When I do get to work, it is very accurate even far away from the city. I think it's just the way it works on this device.

I'll let it run for more than 15 minutes and still nothing.
I'm experiencing the same issue; I noticed it when I was with DstrikerZ1 ROM and I thought it was the culprit. I went back to .236 stock and nothing changed: a veeeery slow fix if any at all !
