Can't find an option/feature - Verizon Note 7 Questions & Answers

Hi all. There is a feature that I used with my OG N7 that I can't seem to find with my exchanged phone. While at my desk or sitting on my couch, I would put my phone face down. When I lifted it up, it would go from the always on display to the lock screen. I could then use my thumb to unlock. I may be having a near Sr moment, but for the life of me I can't seem to find how to turn that on in any of the options. I am sure it is hiding in plain site. Do any of you know what I'm talking about? Not a huge deal since I can go to the lock screen by pressing the power button, but I thought it was a nice thing to have.
Many thanks.

Not sure about that setting.
Why cant you swipe with your thumb and leave your thumb on home button so N7 reads your thumb print to unlock.

[Q] Typing in landscape mode and the bottom buttons

Hi,
When typing in landscape mode doesn't your right hand/finger/whatever touch/hit/activiate one of the touch buttons at the bottom? When I type on my IPhone my thumb is definately very close to where the most left touch button is on the DHD. I have searched for some video of this typing but havent found any - do you have some links for that perhaps?
Thanks

Just use the Speech prompt Command!! less fiddling with typing!!
or
BlueTooth keyboard at home or work!!
or
Keep Guessing!!
( No, you dont touch the other buttons, UNLESS u GOT large JUMBO finger xp )
Main reason I left behind my iPhone was because Lacks of Speech Command to Type.
Got so Used to Dragon Speech from Work for all my Tools and Computer Works.
No, you must be holding your phone in your palms lol. Just let it sit in your hand when your holding it or even lower and you'll see that there's now alot of space left for fingers to type and the buttons are not even close.
I even took a picture for you

S Pen Question

Hey guys,
Is there a way to completely disable the S Pen to not write/do anything when it is in the air? It drives me nuts cause i can't control it and just scribbles or clicks on things when i don't want it to. I really just want it to click and do things when it is on screen..
Cheers in advance
simple, return it for a warranty
S-Pen
Hi
Go to ‘Setting’ - ‘S-Pen’ and turn off ‘Air view’.
A question to you: Do you have the problem that I have? If the phone goes into sleep whilst I'm reading something (this only happens at night when the ‘stay awake’ camera doesn't see me) and I wake the phone with the home button I go to the home screen and not to the last viewed p-ge. The only way I get to the last viewed page is if I wake the phone with the power putton.
Pressing the home button, just wakes the phone does not take me to the home screen. May its the app you are using, I am reading a PDF using Polaris.

This problem occurs if you freeze S-voice or disable the "Open via home key" in S-voice settings. You can unfreeze s-voice or re-enable the open via home button to get rid of the problem.
It's annoying, I know. Happens to me as well, since I disabled the double click to open s-voice because it induces a lag in the home button.

I've turned that off already. It still doing it though
The tip of your spen is stuck in, most likely. I saw a video of a guy tapping the end of his spen to unstick it, kind of swinging it. Best to get it replaced though.

Possible solution
This is a solution to the infamous S-Pen hover/pressing problem (where it will register a press when it's not touching the screen!)
I tried turning off air view, tried tapping and moving the pressure sensor tip... nothing seemed to fix it properly .. nothing except adjusting the potentiometers in the s-pen
The rough guide:
1. Remove the button from the s-pen (a sharp blade in the middle and levering up should do remove it but be careful it doesn't fly off somewhere unknown!.
2. Adjust the potentiometer (variable resistor) closest to the stylus tip (the writing bit). Turn it clockwise to make it less sensitive and CCW to increase it. A few degrees should be enough.
3. Replace the button - put the tongue side in towards the stylus tip and then rest the button on the stylus. Press the raised end towards the tip and down.
Test (actually you might want to test it before you do step 3!)
A big thanks to kevie88 on YouTube for suggesting it in a comment - a quick web search seemed to confirm it. I made a how to video that might help someone.
I called Samsung support and they are sending me a new s-pen anyway so I thought the above method was worth a go

[Q] using the S pen to 'touch" the screen.

so as i was messing with the phone today i found that if you hold the S-pen near the phone to show airview and you push in the pen tip, it acts as though you touched the screen. I prefer using this actually than to the actually touching of the screen, anyone know if there's gonna be a way to use the button to actually simulate touching the screen?
I've noticed it to, can be a bit annoying when it happens by mistake

[Q] App: Soft power button on edge/ticker screen ?

I've had an opportunity to play with a display model of the Note Edge recently and ultimately decided to buy one. It'll arrive on Tuesday.
The one thing that I really disliked (coming from a Note2) - is the awkward placement of the Note Edge's power button. So I was wondering if there'd be a way to add a soft power button to the edge/ticker screen -
I found a couple of options to play with which I've linked below.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.kixx.tool.offwidget
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dev.suriv.suscreen
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.android.smartscreenonlite
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/wakeup-turns-on-your-screen-without-the-power-button/
That mostly addresses the 'off' part but 'on' looks relegated to being triggered by motion or the proximity sensor (because why would you want a 'screen on' app/button on any other phone - because the screen is... off).
I didn't play extensively with the Edge but if the edge/ticker screen is always on (or in a stand-by clock mode) then can someone make something that detects a swipe down and wakes the main screen? Or swipes to a shortcut that wakes the main screen?

Hey! Glad you decided to join us edge users! About your question I'm personally using screen off and lock. I've had no problems and its working beautifully. Got it on my list of apps on the edge and even with the edge on just using it to control my music i click the button for it to turn off the screen and it does just that. It has some nice features as far as animations which i like. As far as the other apps I haven't tried them yet. Hope this helps. Have a good day
easy to do, already sorta included..... with screen off swipe up/down(one motion, do not lift finger between) on the edge screen the edge clock will activate, then swipe from right to left to pull up the app shortcuts cocktail, tap any app in the list and it will wake the main screen and app will be launched and waiting behind lock screen

Oh, sweet. Thanks for this! I kept accidentally activating that and couldn't figure out what I was doing. Heh. I love this phone, I keep finding new things.
The easiest way around the poor power button placement is just to buy the official case so it turns on and off when you open and close the case. It really should of just came with the phone. They belong together. I bought it. It really is like a piece of the phone.

I use greenify. I long press the home button and it hibernates and turns off the screen. I've found it so much nicer than trying to mess with the power button location.

Screen off and lock has this capability add well.
I don't mind having the power button on top, it's the switched back button and last used buttons I still can't get used to. Oh and I don't like how the home key doesn't respond to the pen without press, fail.
Lately I've set GMD gesture control to double tap for screen off. Just have to blacklist a few apps (like calculator) and keyboard where a rapid set of taps will shut screen off when you are trying to do something else. Would be nice if there was a double tap to turn screen on! Some phones can do this. But, for now, I'm fine with just pressing home button for that.

Double tap to wake consistency testing

Dear All;
As you might already know, double tap to wake function not very consistent(ofc better than previous ones but sometimes it stops working completely until you switch it on with power button).
I was trying to find what causes this and I might have found it. I can reproduce this problem every time with my phone but I need to know if your phones has the similar issue or not.
So... it is very simple, just power off your screen(not shut down) and rub your phone screen(like cleaning) with a thin cloth using your palm(or bare handed) for a time. Mostly fast 10 circular motion rubs would be enough but try a bit longer if it does not. Trick is to use all your palm not just fingers(covering your screen).
Then try to double tap to wake your phone.
Please let me know the results, I think digitizer is overflowing with inputs so disabling the function temporarily.
YES!! It most certainly does happen (after giving the screen a nice rub). After that it just doesn't want to work again until I manually turn it on.
Also, it works everytime without fail while charging. Maybe it has something to do with power management? It's also disabled in battery saver mode.
(Rooted Pixel XL with Elemental-X 1.08)
Possibly intentional?
imagine unlocking your phone and putting it in your pocket with the screen facing your leg. You know how it will take the heat from your leg and register touches? maybe this is a combatant against that.
if double tap always worked i could see my phone constantly waking up in my pocket ( like my old g2 and g3 ) and wasting battery.
try this. place the phone flat, give it a good rub, and double tap, if it dont work, stand the phone up and then try.
