Hi
I have received the Find 7a . Tho only issue I have with that is the huge battery drain when off ( even with data and wifi off )
Therefore I want to create a thread where we can share the solutions for this battery drain issue.
PS: I am running ColorOS 2.0 beta
cheers
me
I dont understand why people keep complaining about the battery. I use my 7a a lot and the battery lasts me just fine and I have Wi-Fi and GPS always on.

It's a known issue, I'm actually in a pilot group with a product manager and developer using a new firmware based on 1.2 that seems to help.
In the meantime, change the lockscreen from Colorlock as that has been known to hold a wakelock and disable Google's location services.
After I did that on 1.2 or 2.0 beta my drain shot down to .5%/hr.
I too am part of said pilot group that Sean mentioned and can confirm that a more battery saving firmware is in the works.
Give oppo some time to work the issue out, it's starting to look better.

Head over to oppoforums.com and message Addel or Zeus and they will add you to the conversation.

yep, that do the trick. Also I rooted, and froze some crappy apps like Oppo Launcher ..etc. Fully charged before bed time, and I woke up still 100%
thank you !

Did you froze those apps using Titanium Backup? Or how did you do it?
Thanks!

Freezing applications/disabling them is basically the same as removing them, except that they still take up space on the system. You can freeze applications using Titanium Backup as you said and if you have root of course. If you want to completely remove the applications you should get a file explorer that can request root permissions, then look for the applications you want to remove, these can usually be found in "/system/app/" or "/system/priv-app/". You can also remove them using adb, this is a little more complicated though, if you want to do it this way I'd recommend you to Google it. Be careful when removing files from the system though, as you may run into some weird situations, you can always make a backup of course. (when restoring back-upped files, remember to set the correct permissions)
enabling google location services do not have impact on standby battery drain, seems changing the lock screen and freezing default launcher (I use Nova) helped

I am not seeing any battery drain here. I am still running v1.2.0i and not rooted. I have the password lockscreen and overnight I turn off WiFi and Data and I lose 3% in 8hrs. Pretty good I would say.

I'm on 2.0 beta, changing that to Revolving lock and disabling Google's location services (gimps the phone a bit sure but easy to enable and gps is still fine) and my drain is down to .6%/hr. Not too shabby, and will be testing tonight with location back on.
have been using the find 7a for nearly a week now. all i can say is...be patient, people! the first 2 days i had it, the battery drain is unbearable(8~12hr use and it's gone), but after 3~4 full cycle charged (start charging when below 10% then fully charged using 'battery doctor'), from the 4th day, the battery is amazing, easily get past 24 hours of use with data and wifi always on, screen on time 3 hours+ no problem. my current used time: 34 hr 26 m, with screen on 2 hr 7m, battery still 33%. Google location service is on all the time, Google now is off all the time. GPS off most of the time. running color OS 2.0 beta.
so be patient and charge your battery for few full cycles.
i hope this may help you guys.
Even Oppo has publicly stated the massive battery drain is a known issue affecting all Find 7a phones sold to date so I'm thinking denying there is an issue is a bit silly at this point. Also 2 hours screen time with 33% remaining is a terrible performance that sits at approximately half of what this phones current competition is offering.
Having has this from day one I would also point out that one of the problems associated with this is the inconsistency. I normally will see around 15 percent drain overnight but occasionally its as little as 5 or as high as 70. The problematic part comes in when you figure I've spent most nights testing some new scheme to see if I've made any improvements to the standy life.
Nor do I think its a good idea to accept excuses. On my N5 I never turned anything off, bluetooth, wifi, google now, location, etc. All on all the time and never had a problem getting 4 hours of screen time and never used more than 5% over night. That would of course make it nothing special since I haven't owned a phone since back somewhere around the sgs2 that couldn't do the same thing and there have been lots of phones between here and there. You shouldn't have to turn the phones features off to get the phone to work, being forced to means you are getting a sub industry standard experience. Calling it anything else is a lie.
Hello everybody, I have this phone for 4 days and I'm getting terrible battery life! First day I didn't bother so much but now I'm anxious because it loses 1% almost in 2 minutes.
Brightness is 50%, location off, mobile data and bluetooth are always off, I only use wi-fi, but not too often. I used Greenify to hibernate unnecessary apps but I still don't know what is draining my battery! Are there any unnecessary services you disable to improve battery life? Can it be related to weak signal? Because signal from the operator is not that good, sometimes all lines are empty, that is, no signal. I already did a hard-reset the second day I bought.
Any comment is welcomed, thanks in advance!

Or are you asking for the 'ROOT'? My phone is not rooted.

Could be lots of things. But that is usually the biggest battery drain next to screen. Without seeing your battery screens it's hard to say.

uh your screen time are much much much better than mine. mine could only last about 2 hours everyday, mostly because I use mobile network though.
If you lost 2% in 5 minutes screen on time, you could get 250 minutes or 4 hours screen time.
I went into Settings > Security > Phone administrators and unchecked Android Device Manager. Then, Application Manager > Google Play Services > Uninstall updates, reboot and click on one of the ? with notifications to update Google Play Services. Now you can re-enable Android Device Manager (or not). That will lower your battery drain when the device is in idle.

perhaps you should look into apn settings, as it appears to me your signal strength is your battery issue. google is your friend
Ever since I updated to 8.1.0 with December security patch, I've noticed my battery draining faster than normal. I was getting 4-5 hours of SOT with around 45-50% battery left. This was after being off the charger for 12-16 hours. Now I'm getting about half the SOT at similar numbers. Anyone have any ideas?

Excuse my stating the obvious, but you need to find what process or app is using the battery. You should be able to get a rough idea just using the new features under Settings>>Battery. It will identify which apps are using the most juice. Run the phone in Safe Mode to see if your battery life goes back to normal. It could also be a service like Google Play Service which sometimes wigs out and starts chewing battery. Are you rooted? If you need more detailed information there are battery drain apps available to help isolate the problem (BBS and GSam). These apps require root to give the best results.

Not rooted and currently locked. I've downloaded GSAM and have adb permissions and it simply says things like Chrome, RCS Phone and Play services. If you see from the photos below you can see what I'm talking about. Chrome currently isn't that bad, but yesterday and the past couple days it's been like 9% or more of the battery.

Two things: I've never seen phone or kernel use that much battery. On one page phone usage is 33 seconds, yet it used 9% ? I think RCS is running the background all the time. See if you can toggle it to not run in the background under Settings>>Apps>. High kernel I'm guessing is a kernel wakelock or multiple. You've probably loaded app(s) that are creating the problem, but you need to find out which one is causing the wakelocks. There is a wakelock detector "lite" app that doesn't need root but I don't know how well it works. I know the root version works well. Lastly, on the first screenshot with the battery, scroll to the bottom of the page and see which apps are listed there. I'd be willing to bet if you ran the phone in Safe Mode, your battery drain would disappear, meaning your user apps are causing it.

Well in safe mode my drain is gone so I'm not sure which app is doing it, but to directly answer your question about the RCS it is an overall app meaning it is related to several Google play services. I'll upload a photo of it. I have to reboot into normal mode.
Edit: I'm wrong about that it was the play services.. I'll have to start uninstalling the apps to determine which one is draining the battery I guess.

RCS can be a real battery hog, but I don't know why. I don't have RCS on AT&T. Do you use Messages as your primary SMS? Open Settings>>Advanced and see if you can toggle off "Enhanced Features". Open properties and check if it is using battery optimization. If it is not, set Messages to battery optimization. You can always turn these back on later if the battery drain remains.
My battery life has been restored to pretty much the same as it was with 8.0. I also noticed poor battery life after installing the 8.1 update, even though they changed the way battery life is estimated with this update (supposedly). Something just felt off, but now everything feels great! I am fairly certain what changed is installing the Greenify Magisk module and/or the Google play services doze module (this enables battery optimization on the Google play services app). Not sure which one really made the difference because I installed them at the same time. However, there is definitely a major difference!!

In my experience that's really good.
Before 8.1 I noticed about 11% per hour during screen on use and about 0.33% per hour while on stand by in my pocket or a little bit better if it's just sitting on my night stand not moving while I'm sleeping (I think doze is more extreme in that situation) which seems to match what you are getting. Based on that screen shot I think that's like 8 hours screen on time over like 35 hours for a full charge. I've done a little bit better but not much. That's excellent battery life.
Since 8.1 it has dropped. Best now is maybe 7 to MAYBE 7.5 hours over maybe 26-28 hours. In my experience battery life always drops after an update but this case is far from the worst. I remember when my Nexus 5 updated from KitKat to Lollipop. The battery drop was awful and to make matters worse the battery life of the Nexus 5 was pretty bad to begin with.

So in my last reply I thought I was wrong about RCS Phone app being a conglomerate of several apps in the phone. For some reason I couldn't find the information I needed at that time. I wiped my phone and started over after posting this thread. I was trying to isolate the misbehaving app. I thought it might have been greenify actually, but no the drain has returned to a lesser extent though. Here's some photos of this RCS app from GSAM.

I'm not sure what is causing the drain at this point. I've installed Better Battery Stats to locate the wakelocks so I can ignore them through ADB.

Have you tried disabling RCS ? (Post #6). BBS is good for idle drain, active drain not so much. It's best run overnight without touching the phone for 8 hours or so. Pick the phone up in the morning and create/save a log file as quickly as possible. Post the log to the BBS thread if you need help deciphering.

What app do y'all use to register Screen on Time? I normally use GSam but haven't been using it because I can't get the persistent battery % to not display on the notification area. It's like it's not turning off so I just don't use that app. I'd be interested to hear what some of you are using to see your screen on time.

It's been a couple of years since I rooted my phone and forgot I had purchased the premium version of EXKM. I downloaded it and figured if it lacks features if you're not rooted. Is this true? Maybe I'm not reading EXKM or the stock battery monitor correctly but I don't see a normal screen on time. In the stock app, would that be Screen usage since full charge? I want to make sure that would be the same as screen on time.
Thanks for your reply.
I see how the battery app and EXKM shows the screen on time but it seems pretty confusing. With my attached screenshot it shows that I have 7h 27m with 50%, but I've charged it over that time frame. I'm assuming the only way you can truly measure screen on time is by not charging from 100% until right before you charge it. If someone could clarify this and please correct me in my thinking if I'm misunderstanding how it's calculated or read.

Its just calculates the total SOT you have
If you want to measure sot after you have charged to certain % then hit the menu button 3 dots in upper right corner and you'll get the options

Thanks for the screenshot. I would've been looking in the app for that toggle and would've not thought to look in the system portion of it. That worked though!
On my OnePlus 7 Pro I used the battery charge limit app to limit my battery charging to 85% for battery health since I was going to keep it awhile (2 years). Anyways, the same app doesn't work on the OP9 Pro and I tried Advanced Charging Controller Magisk module and that didn't work either. Looking for ideas if anyone knows of something else to try. Since this phone charges so darn quick, it's even less of an issue to limit the battery max percentage and the ideal phone to do such a thing.

Try a non warp/dash/whatever cable/brick with ACC
Same problem with Acca, will try the Battery Charge Limiter from Play Store
I've just been using AccuBattery which notifies me when charge reaches the level I set (I use 90%) and unplug it when it alerts me. That won't help if you charge it at night, but for daytime charging the phone is usually plugged in right next to me.

How would you get it to stop at a specific percent though? If there's some sort of timer to stop at a detected voltage, that could work.

nah, i simply set it to a set timer, for me that is 25 minutes.
As you are saying this, it makes me think that it is not hard to do a script to do this automatically. . too much work for this tho, but totally doable with samsung smartthings.

As you are saying this, it makes me think that it is not hard to do a script to do this automatically. . too much work for this tho, but totally doable with samsung smartthings.

It probably wouldn't be too difficult, but since we already have some apps and Magisk modules to do this, which worked great on my OP7 Pro, I'd like to get it working like Burt Squirtz said he was able to do. I'm just annoyed that I can't get it to work on my OP9 Pro.
After having tried both AccA and the Battery Charge Limit, unfortunately I must say that none worked for me. I miss do much the smart charging feature from pixel-inspired ROMs I used on my Xiaomi phone.
I appreciate the attempts mentioned above, but does anyone have a working method to automatically stop charging at 80%?

Definitely following this for that as well. What's good is that OnePlus has an option in the settings to do adaptive charging. I've already had it learn my wake up time and it will not start charging the battery until a little before I wake up. I get a little notification that my phone will not continue charging until a specific time. Very neat!

how did this happen for you, and do you mean optimized charging in batt settings? I think it is because I charge my phone at random times that it does not do anything at the moment

That is correct. It's Optimized Charging.
Has anyone managed to get on top of this in the meantime? Myself, I'm using the Accubattery's sound alert, but I'd love to stop charging automatically when it reaches the limit.
I think, I fond the reason, but no solution.
I am using all time Tasker to control charging limit. I's doing the same way like Battery Charge Limit and AccA: By copying the file "charging_enabled" into /sys/class/power_supply/battery/ .This was working until OP8pro. Unfortunately, all this apps suddenly have no writing access to this directory. Not even on rootet device.
So if anyone have idea, to make /sys/class/power_supply/battery/ writeable again, please tell.

A temporary workaround for Tasker users is to create a repeating notification once the battery reaches a certain limit. That's what I've done and it does the job for the meantime!
Use /sys/class/oplus_chg/usb/chg_enable, 1, 0 as the config file.
