New Joying Android 5.1.1 2GB Units available very soon ! - MTCD Android Head Units General

Hello,
I found 2 new videos on youtube showing the 2 next Android 5.1.1 2G units from Joying (Boy Ka channel).
Joying announces a release date for october 10th.
The standard universal one (8 inches, 2 din) :
and the single din 10.1 inches :
I hope that they will release a dedicated unit for VW (with knobs for volume) and I will get one.

No evidence exists that these are 2gb units and when requested to produce a video the response is "some time", "later", "trust us" etc. Poster claims these are intel units and again no evidence. Suggest marketing is in action until supplier produces reliable information.

hopefully it is legit

They have a lot of units on Aliexpress listed as 2GB RAM for a long time now. I asked if these are really 2GB RAM and they said it is an error. I suggested that they correct the listing but I guess that still didn't happen....
Sent from my SM-N910F using XDA-Developers mobile app

It is strange indeed, Joying has lied about these specs before, so that's nothing new. However the unit does appear to be very responsive, so I take that as a good sign. Let's wait and see what they come back with on October 10th and I'm hoping they come up with a unit for the Sprinter/Crafter...

I do not doubt joying a second what they specify. The system looks extremely responsive. Probably totally true that it is a intel cpu with 2 gb ram.

Deleted - updated by repost with attachment.

Yeah, no kidding. I actually bought one these from Joying, specifically their 10" Unit MTCD based unit running 5.1.1 thinking it would be an "upgrade" from my NewsMy CarPad 2S. Boy was I wrong. These units only have 2 advantages over the NewsMy. The RDS works and they are available in a 10" screen. In every other way, they are inferior to the NewsMy. The worst part is that the Internal Bluetooth adapter communicates via the MCU only. It is not visible to android, so any apps that need to talk to BT devices, such as my radar detector, don't work. The NewsMy was better because it had dual bluetooth adapters to get around this problem. Even the custom ROM maker, Malaysk can't fix this because he has tried and failed to inject generic USB bluetooth drivers into the rom to run dual bluetooth. So, now I am at an empass. Do I put my NU3001 back in and give up RDS and the 10" screen, or wait for this "new" Joying unit in the YouTube video that runs Intel SoC to see if they fixed the bluetooth problem...... I also emailed Summer at NewsMy asking if they are working on a new CarPad IV, hopefully with a bigger screen but no replies....... Don't know which way to go.

Interesting, in the 8" video he mentions at minute 3:40 that the first boot takes about 20 seconds, but that the second time it starts it just needs 10 seconds, and at the end of the video he shows how it goes up from standby in just 1 second. What type of boot is he referring to with the 10 seconds. Is he referring to 10 seconds boot time also when the car was off for a few days? That would be awesome, but I guess this is again just Joying marketing...

Who normally has HCT in their MCU? Like Joying has "JY" in theirs, some have K something, don't recall seeing HCT

Would you be willing to do me an enormous favor? I have been struggling with the joying MTCD unit since April because one of the applications I need does not work. Specifically an app named alpconnect which I will link below that communicates with my radar detector via Bluetooth. The reason it will not work is because on MTCD head units the internal Bluetooth adapter communicates through the MCU and not Android itself. So when I open this app, after I accept the license agreement, it states that bluetooth is off when in reality it is on and then when you click allow it will crash. I would very much appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to try to install this free application and let me know what happens after you run it, accept the license agreement, and tell me if it also says that bluetooth is off or if it starts scanning and looking for the Bluetooth module, which would mean it is working. Thank you very much.

So basically they've kept the MCU setup and swapped out the ARM board for an Intel version.
Easily doable since the communication between the two chips is just a serial port.
Add Android x86 and apply the custom apps and away you go.
This unit might be interesting though, potentially able to run any OS that runs on Intel. That includes Linux, AOSP android or even Windows!

I Googled the build string in that screenshot and this came up:
https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/7-inch-Intel-Sophia-3GR-C3230_60334463213.html
So I'm guessing the new units have a CPU similar to an Intel Atom x3 c3230

The long awaited Elephone P3000 is now around the corner. Below here you can read the announcement from Elephone. I may get this and post a Unboxing and Review later when I got it. What do you think about it?
•The JDI screen displays sharp and high quality pictures. Meanwhile, power consumption of the screen decreased. There is still power left after heavy use for one day, that has solved the power consumption problem that exists on Android 4.4.2 phones. The camera performs outstanding, and there are lots of options in the menu to fit the different shooting environment. The accuracy of the color reduction reaches 90%. It performs excellent in low light condition.
•Furthermore, the combination of MTK 6592 and 6290 works great for 4G LTE. MTK 6592 is a mature developed Soc that has stable performance regarding running complex functions such as games and multi tasks.
Elephone released the Elephone P3000 in two versions. The P3000 and the P3000S. The Elephone P3000 is the lesser equipped one of the two. The Elephone P3000 comes with a Mediatek MT6582 1.3GHz Quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM memory. The Elephone P3000S comes with a faster Mediatek MT6592 1.7GHz Octa-core processor and 2GB of RAM. Both of the phones have a 720p OGS IPS screen that promises good viewing angles and color reproduction.
Main Features:
Elephone P3000s 5.0 Inch
RAM: 2GB / ROM: 16GB
Android 4.4 KitKat
MTK6592 Octa Core, 1.7GHz / Mali-450MP
Radio/Modem: MT6290
Support micro SD (T-Flash) 128G
NFC Built-in
SIM+micro SIM card, dual standby
Support Gravity/Light/Proximity Sensing System
FM/MP3/MP4/Bluetooth/GPS Function Supported
Note: This phone will only work with GSM+WCDMA+FDD-LTE
Networks: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100MHz FDD-LTE 800/1800/2100/2600MHz
Cons/Minus:
The camera flash is not 100% synchronized with the shutter.
Compass sensor gives erratic output
What should I say....
A MTK6592 quad core combined with a 3150 mAh battery, 4G network , 2GB RAM 16GB ROM, and pretty almost full frequency
Guess that should last forever ...
It seems to be a very good device.....
I've pre ordered, it looks a good phone
Interesting ! I may (pre)order it for a friend.

What malfunctions? everything works fine on the phone - you should know if you check the review. Only I must say that the Fingerprint scanner is just a gimmick for me. I don't really use it. And if your fingers are a little sweaty you sometimes have to do it twice before it can scan the finger correct, but it's not a big deal. Things like, WiFi, reception, speed, RAM, GPS, display, 3D games etc. works perfect for me on this device.

I am cautious to buy this device because some elephone devices in the past appeared problems. It's a very low cost devise for these specifications so I am afraid of low manufacture quality.
How would you characterize the external material and the quality of the device?
Do you advise me to risk and buy it?

Well, I already told my opinion in my video review. If you should buy it or not is up to yourself. Everything works fine for me on this phone. Previous Elephone models had problems with the battery draining too fast, or that you had to tap 2 times sometimes before it would react, on the P3000S the touchscreen seems to be better and the battery is also really good.

The upcoming Parrot RNB 6 infotainment system (to be officially announced at CES 2015) looks like a promising device! In addition to the standard navigation and entertainment functionality we should expect from every devices of this kind, the Parrot RNB 6 will have some extra functionality which, in my opinion, will make it the best solution available on the market for 2015. ODB-2 Compatible with on screen car diagnosis, on-screen climate control and both CarPlay and Android Auto compatible!

Does someone know what kind of cpu it has, how much memory, 1 or 2 gb and how much disk space has it, 8, 16 or 32gb?

that'd be great news ... if its below €500,-- its a deal for me ... otherwise will have to think first
I really wish these dudes would give us a release date! I don't have a lot of patience to continue waiting!
^^ I know right? Let hope it is less than $400 or 500. I am hoping that this unit will come with real traffic live, much more features than Pioneer's newest unit that came with android auto, and able to use the gps data without using the android phone data.

500 euro is much to low if you want that they use well know brands who are reliable materials like a fast quad core CPU, 2 gb DDR3 mem and at least 16gb of nand space. ( 32 gb should be a great option )
I think it will have a price tag between €600 or €1000 .
Does anyone know if there has been any further information on this.
I've been looking over the models recently and this seems to be the best one.
Looking for a new head unit for my new car but I don't want to be waiting until the cows come home only to find out its average
LOL, we've been reading about it since January at least.
So far, it doesn't exist.
Pretty much the only AA HUs are a few 2015 Pioneer units. (Besides my HU app with a tablet.

Hi there!
I know these sorts of questions tend to result in canned responses, for
dozens of reasons, but I fell I still need to ask.
I've been obsessed with the RNB6 since I saw the demonstrations at CES. I

single update since January. Is there any additional information, projected

Thank you very much!

That does look pretty cool! Though I sure do wish I could get the additional cameras and awesome stuff provided by the Parrot option. This is really cheap though... hmmm Could be a great stop-gap measure.
Well... I'm worried about the overall build quality and the sound output.
[July 2015 update] RNB6 project was showcased at CES Las Vegas in January 2015 (watch video below). This infotainment system was selected by several automakers who envision to integrate it in their next-generation car models next year and beyond. As of today there is no plan to sell RNB6 in Aftermarket channels as RNB6 embedded technologies require deep integration with car series and manufacturers.

Damnit! I guess I have to consider a tablet setup again... I really wanted an all-inclusive solution though.
What's annoying is that all the articles I saw on this unit were talking about how you could upgrade your 'clunker' with a new radio... and now they announce that this is only going in new vehicles? That's absurd. Oh well.

Teclast X3 Pro, the first 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD tablet pc

I have read the nice news that Teclast will also announce Teclast X3 pro which will be the first RAM 8GB and 128GB SSD tablet pc.
This is the same chipset as the Cube i9, which was just been released. Hot on heels of Cube, Teclast have gone for more RAM, 8GB of daul channel ram Vs the 4GB of dual channel ram in the i9.
It seems Teclast X3 pro will be th higher version of Teclast X2 pro. But gone is the last gen Core M 5Y10, replaced with the much more powerful, but still fanless Core M3-6Y30.
In one image it looks like we have USB 3.1 Type-C port? I wonder if it will finally have Wireless AC?
As for the price, it will be sold at $599 from E-Shop. So the official price will be around $385-$400 in China.

I'm planning to buy this tablet.
I like it,.. it resolves my main issue with the X16 Power — a PC with the computing power of the Samsung Galaxy S4. This is much closer to the S7 that just came out.
I am a *little* worried about android studio in 8GB of ram, I've seen my system go up over 8 with the emulator running .. but I guess I'll just have to get use to using a testbed device if I get this.
8Gb of RAM? God what are you going to do with that! Although it seems marketed towards professionals..

Almost.. yeah. Mostly due to Chrome using that much RAM.
Do you think it will have a real mSATA drive or one of those slower eMMC ones?
It is a real mSATA
"Like all the other Chinese Core M tablet tested here at Tech Tablets, the X2 Pro comes with a M.2 2242 spec 64GB SSD or 128GB SSD. My version here is the 64GB model. Speeds are good and definitely a huge step up from the eMMC drives seen in the Atom tablets. And since the tablet has USB 3 ports you can make more use of the faster sequential read and write speeds without any storage bottlenecks."

Yup. Also confirmed with product FAQ on GearBest.
The fact that it's fanless will it lead it to increase of temperature? I hope not. It's now on presale on geekbuying for about 478usd which is a bit less than expected.

Phh 8.1 GSI is fully functional minus the camera you will also need to set a custom width to make the screen not super tiny or use my edited one below.
Phh 9.0 GSI works but with a few bugs primarily Bluetooth and camera. But also it has a wonky navbar and notification pulldown but those 2 are aosp bugs
I have edited the v25 phh 8.1 gsi and added ro.sf.lcd_density=320 to the build.prop which makes it so the screen isn't super zoomed in. I will work on doing something similar to vendor in the future so its persistent over all gsi's.
Here is the download
Twrp:
I have gotten twrp working on this device, currently, decryption is not supported due to the limited space on the recovery partition. But the keyboard and stylus do work in recovery.

Thanks for doing this, hope to see how other ROMs function. Can you also test a Pie GSI?
Thanks for this, I'm considering getting this tablet. Could you possibly do a video review? There hasn't been a good one in YouTube yet.
I'm going to assume that you are the only one doing any development with this tablet? Which is fine either way, it just let's me know once I get my tablet, how long the wait will be or expect for custom ROMs. Thanks again.

I don't plan on doing a review or anything i got it to do development on it. GSI's are working on it, i am planning on getting a device specific rom up and running soon. Working with the hi9 air and hi9 pro devs to see if we can make something that is compatible on all 3.
Thanks for the update. Can't wait to see all what you come up with!!
I asked them directly about buying the keyboard case separately.
It's not listed on their official Aliexpress store so you have to buy 35 units of "Extra Shipping"
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/pr...l?spm=2114.12010615.8148356.55.63bb4c05f2hzru
And tell them you want a keyboard case.
Oh and thanks for TWRP.
Anyone that hasn't flashed anything yet, can you tell me the current security patch level?
I could swear that I saw June, but after flashing the rom provided by Chuwi it's at February.
Also it seems far more sluggish than it was before flashing.

Yeah the firmware they provided is older, the one shipped on the device was june i have asked for updated firmware and was told they are working on it.
Oh good I'm not crazy.
I don't suppose you have a backup of the current one?

No sadly, i am in the same boat i assumed the firmware would match what was shipped so i didn't grab one.
Let's hope someone else out there reads this before they flash.
Or Chuwi releases whatever is current.
NA
GSI is apparently doing some amazing work and possibly working around the clock. It's crazy to see that there is a partially working 9.0 rom( or lastest Android version) so soon after device release!
For anyone interested, I found the keyboard for 17 dollars, however the pen still like 27 dollars no matter where you go.

The problem about the pen is that you can use the tablet for 2-3 years maybe, nut if you lost the pen is very pobrable that you won't find it online after just 6 month, if it is not a chuwi standard (and as far as I can see it's NOT a standard).
BTW I have problems checking out the keyboard site, are you sure it's a sure online shop?
Thank you!

I just try and everyting was ok, but $9 shipping fees are pretty high. Grandtotal is ok anyhow due to the very discounted price. This is another addon that you might buy as soon as you can since it's already hard to find.
The rablet is sold at nice price by [email protected] and you can buy the pen as addon for €17 (maybe $20, but you save A LOT on shipping fees!!!)

It's just a normal Wacom active pen, I tried out my Lenovo one and that worked properly on it.

Where to buy (just) the module like PX30, PX5 or PX6?

Hi all,
I'm currently trying to build a Rockchip based head unit from spare parts I got from other units and only missing the System On Module piece like a PX30, PX5 or PX6 board (see pic). Looked everywhere but cannot seem find them, only already mounted on motherboards or aren't for Android Head units. Checked the normal places like Amazon, eBay, AliExpress and Alibaba.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's extremely expensive
You mean an MTCx module. They're readily available, just expensive.
Also, none of these Chinese units are Android auto. They're a hacked Chinese Android.

Yeah indeed they are. I was looking to buy a development board but they are equally expensive.
Interesting comment about these units not being true Android Auto. Could you elaborate on that?

They are not Android auto. See/google certified units. These are a modified Android.
Android auto is basically screen mirroring, is that what you want.

Ah I see, this is what I suspected you'd say but was hoping for finding out something I didn't know. I have to politely disagree with you however. The purpose of pure Android head unit is to have a separate car computer rather than extension of a mobile phone. There are so many limitations with Android Auto unless of course you are prepared to pay big big money. The big upside with these Chinese units is that they offer a good base for modders like me to make vast improvements (hardware- and software-wise) at a very low cost, making these units outperform anything out there in the market in price ranges up to $2,000 I would say, especially when it comes to sound quality as there is nothing in this price range that even comes close to Viper4Android as an example. The value is even higher if you get one of those 8227L units as they are considerably cheaper than Rockchip-based ones.
The only reason I would choose Android Auto instead of real Android unit is if I run true surround sound in my car (Dolby, DRS etc) rather than stereo or extended stereo. Mainly because I think there are limitations that are beyond modding or at least on a fairly intermediate level.

I believe @marchnz was referring to your use of the term "android auto" in your initial post.

These machines can do "Android auto" but they are not recognized as 'android auto machines'.

Just clarifying, these units are NOT Android auto. They might come with a number of screen mirror apps such as zlink but are not Android Auto.
Yes you can install the Android auto app on your head unit, but that's still not Android Auto. Refer google for Android Auto info.
Seems pointless wanting to screen mirror to a device that directly runs an app from the playstore....
[Android Auto is a mobile app developed by Google to mirror features from an Android device, such as a smartphone, to a car's compatible in-dash information and entertainment head unit. Once an Android device is paired with the head unit, the system mirrors qualified apps from the device to the vehicle's display, with a simple, driver-friendly user interface. ]

Yeah okay I see what you're saying. I actually never used Android Auto app myself but I understand the value. And no, I don't understand either why anyone would be interested in mirror linking their phone to an Android Head unit.
I'm actually looking at buying another car and of course sound is one of the major areas that I look at, i.e how much I can improve, aftermarket options etc. Android Auto is supported by some newer car brands (I'm looking at BMW X6 or Mercedes AMG GLE 63 S) but normally is an upgrade option, quite an expensive one..
